About eleven months ago, as part of his efforts to have a UNIQUE and UNIFIED identity for Ikere Kingdom, the Paramount Ruler of Ikere Kingdom, HRM Oba Samuel Adejimi Adu, Ogoga of Ikere Kingdom requested for the composition of an Ikere Anthem. Many entries were submitted by respected Ikere indigenes; a team of carefully selected music scholars under the leadership of Rev. Elijah Olaleye of The Apostolic Faith Church Ikere Ekiti was put in place by Kabiyesi to harmonize all entries. read more |
A member of the House of Representatives representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Amiru Tukur, on Tuesday said though he was present at a party rally where public officials were stoned, he was not one of the affected officials. The ruling All Progressives Congress held the rally in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina to formally receive politicians who had defected to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA; the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM; and some other parties. After almost a year of negative growth that resulted in the collapse of businesses, the Nigerian economy is looking up, signalling an end of the recession, the World Economics, said yesterday. However, the body cautioned that “conditions remain difficult for businesses,” World Economics is a London-based organisation dedicated to producing financial analysis, insight and data relating to questions of key importance to the global economy. It said: “April Sales Managers’ Index (SMI) data suggests that the Nigerian economy is continuing to grow out of the recession which saw 10 months of consecutive contraction in 2016.” read more |
Nigeria was, Tuesday, ranked 152 among the 188 UN member states in the Human Development Index, HDI. According to the 2016 report released by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, in Abuja, Nigeria retained its 2015 status with a computation of 0.527 which was two points above 2014 computation of 0.525. In the report launched by the Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, Central Africa Republic ranked 188. The HDI, a composite statistics of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators, is used to rank countries into four tiers of human development. Nigeria’s HDI value for 2016 positioning it at 152 of 188 countries puts the country on Low Human Development (LHD). read more |
President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr David Babachir Lawal and ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against him in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, and made available to Flashnewz247 says the President has equally ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim. read more |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has explained why it rejected Friday’s ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal which affirmed the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ahmed Badamasi, had in a unanimous judgment thrown out the petition of the PDP and its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for failing to support their pleadings with evidence as well as abandoning some pleadings in their petition. read more |

An Economist, Mr Okechukwu Unegbu, has called for total reorganisation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to accommodate developing nations in its policy structure. The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Sunday commended the National Ummah Association for supporting agriculture in Nigeria. Abubakar made the commendation during the 22nd National Ummah Convention held in Sokoto. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has uncovered a fake Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) centre in Maiduguri. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday denied links to the more than N13 billion recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, acting on a tip-off on Wednesday, found $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 hidden inside an apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi. The recoveries were valued at N13 billion based on prevailing exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Nigeria. read more |

A man whose identity has been shielded by a local church in Makurdi, has shocked church members with a tithe offering of N42 million. Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi revealed that the money was paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church High level Makurdi. Although the resident pastor of the church, Frederick Ikyaan, initially denied knowledge of such offering, a copy of the church’s quarterly financial report, covering the months of January – March, confirmed the payment of N42 million tithe to the church. read full story here |
