mamaron: My Birth and Passport Story
Baby has arrived...mummy and LO doing well....to God alone be the glory. Admitted on day 1 at 3am, discharged on day 3 at 11am.
Filled the NYC form for the birth certificate on the day I was discharged (day 3)...they said BC would come in the mail within 10 days. DH went to NYC vital stats office with money order and got 2 copies for $15 each plus $2.75 processing fee on day 9....no appointment required....just walk in. Details here:
http://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/services/birth-certificates.page
Made an appointment with NYC passport office on day 9. Earliest slot was day 18...even with expedited travel plans!!! Not sure if you can show up without an interview. Details here:
https://passportappointment.travel.state.gov
DH was leaving before day 18, so he notarized the passport parental consent form with a local notary public in NYC.... he just googled notary public closest to us and went there. We didnt get SSN...filled zeros on the passport form and signed a declaration that we have not received SSN.
US passport was ready the following working day (day 21)....picked it up on day 22. Applied for Nigerian passport on day 21...followed the instructions on the immigration website. Credit cards can be used for payment but i bought a money order for $77 and mailed it using FedEx for next-day delivery to Innovate1 Services. Got payment confirmation and acknowledgement on day 22. Went for interview on day 23 for passport on day 25. Details:
http://www.nigeriahouse.com/newpassport.aspx
Bought Virgin Atlantic infant ticket over the phone...was earlier told in a response to my email to contact my travel agent...another time I called was told I needed to buy at the airport...called again and paid over the phone with a credit card!!! Why are airlines so inconsistent sometimes??!!
Birth certificate; $15 each plus; $2.75 processing fee (money order) US Passport: $80 plus $25 acceptance fee and $60 expedited fee (money order) Nigerian Passport: $77 (money order) Hospital bills still being finalised to reconcile the deposit paid with the actual services enjoyed. Mount S takes 8 to 10 weeks so beware.
Super grateful to God for everything.
Learnt a lot here. Thanks to you all. My sibling kept asking how come I know so much about everything and didnt need to ask for info!!!
All the best to everyone for...upcoming interviews, POE crossings and birth. Blessings fall on you. what number did you call for virgin to book the ticket? |

Chinemeze17: Hello naira landers, Finally my missionary journey came to an end three weeks ago. I had posted my POE Waka earlier on. I used Hnwmc and Dr xydas and the bills breakdown are Dr 2000$ Hospital 2200$ (the 200$ fee was for an observation before LO came) Collected the non indebtedness letter from financial counselor and a zero balance but no itemized statement, I'm hoping to get that too. Pediatricians 728$ after an initial bill of almost 1500. I called them and stated I was given a quote for healthy baby package which should be applied and honored, eventually they did and I paid over the phone and my statement and zero balance came in the mail. Follow up pediatrician visit 69$ each visit Pathology 179$ Birth certificate 75$ paid for expedited services
Used Qatar airways and added baby ticket for 145$ Got a same day expedited passport 165$ and applied for visa on arrival which was approved after 24hours and sent to my email, Paid 190$ in lagos It all ended in praise, and the boot has been hung finally congratulations |

daks01: So missionary journey finally complete (I already posted my POE story). Been wanting to post this but I kept postponing.
So I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl in nov in Colorado. Hospital costs: 2day vaginal delivery stay: 2300 Doctor: 2190 (but I got refunded 230 for some reason, no complaints here!) For anesthetiser awon oloriburuku people. I didn’t take epidural o! During labour one of the nurses offered me Nitrus oxide to help with the pain and I said fine, I was even pretty out of it sef cos I can’t remember. Apparently the anestheologist came in for like 5mins and left. Only for me to get a bill from them like three weeks after of $2000!! If I took epidural at least I will know I gained something, nitrus oxide didn’t even do anything. I still felt all the pain. Anyways I fought well and btw guys most hospitals have patient care representatives they help with any issues you might have especially billing problems with external specialists. Try and find their details cos it was the babe that helped me cos she knew one of the doctors in the anestheologists’ office. I eventually paid $600 After plenty fight! Before delivery I got admitted for high bp monitoring, got charged $535 after plenty haggling. Tests: $500 ish
Got social security no three weeks after, applied for expited passport ($165)in Philly and got it same day. Applied for visa on arrival and got a response two days later. Paid $280 for baby’s Ticket for virgin atlantic, also apparently it was cheaper for me to get it there than in Naija.
I’m so thankful for this forum cos I got all the info I needed here. please how did u buy the baby ticket for virgin atlantic |

ALADE4J2: Pls has anyone ever got a refund for early discharge from admission? Let’s say you were scheduled to stay on admission for 72 hours but were discharged in 48 hours. they usually dont give refunds on hospital stay. i know u can give refunds for services not rendered like payment on epidural if not used. but there is no harm in asking if the hospital didnot state it. All the best |

Bcpump: For the birth certificate (sorry I'm not tagging who asked about that), after 2 days of hospital discharge, just go to the bc office in your county. that's what i did and i picked up as much copies as i wanted.
I applied for nigerian passport last week Thursday, paid 77$ money order and went to the embassy yesterday for my appointment. passport was also ready as at the evening of the same day. Told them I was traveling immediately. All I paid was that 77$ money order to innovate. since the passport is cheaper than VOA, why do so many people opt for the VOA? everything took me a week. Please i need ur help on the application of nigerian passport. My email is Ladeonas@yahoo.co.uk |

chidi4sam: Jewish/Anyone, please can you help me out? My wife is heavy and her EDD is in two months time. This is her 1st. She decided not to let her brother who lives in USA to know till now. Just two days ago, she informed him. He was angry that we told him late. He mandated me to verify what it will take to get her over to deliver. Please kindly let me know if the time frame would be enough to process all she needs to get there. Also, apart from the things you wrote on the first page , are there other things she need? NOTE: Our initial plan was for her to deliver here in Nigeria . We are into this now because, her brother insisted I checked. Thanks This is not a problem, if u can get an interview date before her EDD. @ My first trip my visa interview date was just 6wks before EDD I wish u all the best |

Brownshoogah: Why not go outside the airport and get a nice hotel for a cheaper price... Ibis (with breakfast) and premier inn has for about 70-90dollars tops and you can use a free shuttle. That 1 lounge gets full easily and that 90pounds is for only a few hours. I gathered this from online research. So keep an open mind. To go outside you would need a UK visa or a transit visa. I guess |

mayorkays: The web-page given to us for payment by the hospital (mercy medical maryland) can't be reached from Nigeria and my wife and I have called the hospital several time to explain our difficulties but to no avail. 1. Should I call the hospital and explain to them my plans of coming over there to pay 2. Is it possible that we might have been flagged by the hospital at the embassy within last year and now?? 3. Can I apply at the embassy as tourist telling them am married but will be traveling alone and since my wife still have a valid visa we can both travel any other time we wish 1. Yes, if possible get that correspondence via email 2. Months is enough 3. Thats a personal decision |

mayorkays: Please I want to ask my chances at the US embassy and how to go about applying because last year my wife applied for a B1/B2 visa as she was pregnant by then, she was granted the visa. (7months ago) I could not apply with her because of my job. She came back after 12wks with our daughter and now am thinking of applying alone myself so as to go visit and pay the remaining bills . please hope I won't be deny visa as we are still owing the hospital bills ..... the first question is why cant call the hospital send some money to them, get a recent updated statement to show you have a payment plan with the hospital. then apply |

chinybelle: I was told here that the hospital knows how to go about it. It's not a requirement for interview but can form part of your doctor's correspondence.
My problem now is that the hospital is requesting for 20k to draft it. Which I feel is totally off. Why do I need to pay so much to get my medical history /report?
Pls those that did this should put mouth o Mine from Havana was 10k |

julzz: Renewed visa via dropbox, flew virgin Atlantic with my toddler to L.A on the 15th Jan fit to fly was requested at mma, had a 21hr layover so when I got to heathrow I headed to the no 1 hotel was told 90gbp from 9pm-6am, someone here had said she paid 50gbp so I decided to proceed to terminal 4 (I landed at terminal 3) cos I learnt there's a hotel via a walk way there, when I got there it turned out I had to pass thru immigration to get there, the queue was long I was directed to the front cos of my condition but the lady told I had to exit from terminal 3 where I landed and take a bus back to terminal 4, I was really tired already got back to terminal 3 but didn't even have the power to go and pass immigration again so decided to have dinner and head back to the no 1 hotel like that since their check in was by 9pm, when I got back there I was they were fully booked I almost cried cos I just wondered how I was going to manage with my toddler i just put myself together, the airport shorts down at 10pm, luckily I had a blanket with me cos it was cold,my toddler played and later slept and I covered him, after sometime all overnight passengers where moved to gate 24 to stay and we were moved back before 5am, I just went to the family restroom, freshened up, brushed teeth and changed clothes then back to the waiting area, had breakfast and later discovered a kids play area really nice, they put eyes on your kids and even have where you can nap, so rested till my flight time. Fast forward to L.A, virgin Atlantic have there own terminal it is kinda small and there wasn't crowd, used the self service machine collected print out and proceeded to cbp - Cpb - what brings you here Me - have my baby and sight see while waiting Cpb - oh! Do you have a dr Me- yes mentioned his name Cpb - what do you do Me - unemployed but sell female stuffs on a small scale Cpb - who's paying Me - my husband is my sponsor Cpb - what do he do Me - bleep ( asked his colleague something then stamps me in he was acting kinda not sure what to do) Picked my luggage walk about 1min to agric I guess Cpb 2 - asked if I had meat, vegetables blah blah Me - No Cpb 2 - while looking at me why are you here Me - to have a baby Cbp 2 - did you inform them at the embassy Me - yes Cpb 2 - how much do you have with you Me - $8000 Cpb 2- that's not going to cover Me - the quote I got it's going to cover Cpb 2 -it's going to cost over $10,000 Me - I am a self pay so I get some kinda discount paying cash , if I was using insurance then it's gonna cost me more Cbp 2 - you had him here (my toddler) and you are here to have another? Me - yes Cpb 2 - why here Me - the care I received when I had my first child was exceptional and I wouldn't want to trade the experience Cpb 2 - who paid the bills Me - I did Cpb 2 - can I have your zero balance Me - gave them to him Cpb2 - looks through and steps out to call another (He wasn't just buying the idea I guess) Cpb 3 - asked where I had my first baby Me - Texas Cpb 3 - asked what my husband does Me - bleep Cbp 3 - oh that explains why Texas, where will you be staying Me- a rented apartment Cbp 3 - signals him to let me go and keep receipts for this birth as I did with my first
In all it took kinda 10mins. My host was like at the other terminal where every other flight lands they have been really holding pregnant women for hours before release and they sent one back because they found out they were collecting benefits for there daughter( which she wasn't aware of) that it was a public charge so he had no say he actually went in the holding area. Please ignore typos thank God you have arrived. your story is great. Yes, i was the person that paid 50gbp for 10pm-6am at No1 lounge. wishing you safe delivery |

Imagine after all this many planning and rigorous search, just to have your baby on the plane.... i feel for her.... but thank God they are both safe. i dont think its a bad option, as long as the person gives birth in the US airways. you have no bills to pay. just the review session. it would be like home birth. my 2kobo |
