Are the ones we have well equpped first? Do you know how much building a university talkless of 6 will cost the Governmenthuh

This is nothing but a selfish project!, i will be surprised if the university in Bayelsa is not named Goodluck Jonathan University!

Open your eyes than taking everything a government does as right!

We have half-baked graduates roaming the streets looking for job. None of the Federal Universities in Nigeria can stand and boast of significant international rating.

Yet you come and say what is wrong with that. . .RUBBISH!, absolutely RUBBISH!

The Bayelsa State government will donate 200 hectare of land at Otuoke, President Goodluck Jonathan’s village, for the commencement of the new federal university to be sited in the state, Timipre Sylva, the state governor has said.

The site allocation was unveiled on Wednesday, when the minister of state for education, Kenneth Gbagi, paid a visit to the governor in Yenagoa, requesting for allocation of space for the university, which is one of the six which was recently approved by the Federal Executive Council.

Mr. Sylva also promised to relocate every structure around the site at Otuoke to pave way for the immediate take-off of the university. The governor expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for siting one of the six new federal universities in Bayelsa, describing it as a quick response to the educational needs of the people.

The minister had earlier told the governor that the new federal university, which was allocated to Bayelsa State, would be located at Otuoke, in Ogbia local government area of the state.

With a little more than 20,000 people, Otuoke and Oloibiri, the communities where crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria, belong to Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State.

If, for the sake of ONE university in Bayelsa State, FIVE others can be built, how is it bad?
slap1:
How about ditching this idea of new unis and upgrading the existing ones to have higher students intake?
Where do you actually stand my friend!

All i said is, this project is all because of selfish reasons, the funds can be used to upgrade the present universities we have. Jonathan is only trying to be fair hence building a Uni in all zones.

@johndoe,

If you believe that solving fuel scarcity is an achievement then you have a myopic view of things. . . Fuel scarcity has always been an off and on issue, it was never a long term issue. If you see only providing steady fuel, as a good job then im sorry for you
PoliticsRe: What Has Jonathan Achieved So Far In One Year In Power: by ladi02(m): 9:13pm On Nov 24, 2010
We just wasted the last 4yrs!

Jonathan is not different from the other clueless leaders we have had, only good to maintain status quo. . .

We need serious CHANGE!, but majority of Nigerians dont seem to care

Like you said dayo1401 we are a country of 150m, I believe there is 1 person that can put Nigeria on the right path. Not the same old guys, taking us on the same old path!

PoliticsRe: Vulunteer For Team Ribadu by ladi02(m): 7:36pm On Nov 24, 2010
@bermuda1

Sure Ribadu might not have the political experience like some other individuals, but note those individuals have not been able to bring about the change Nigeria needs. So its ok to say political experience does not mean you will be a good leader. Plus what we need now in Nigeria is someone that can get rid of corruption before it destroys us. Its because of corruption we dont have steady power, insecurity, flawed judicial system, lack of basic infrastructure in general!

Apart from that, we want CHANGE!, PDP has ruled us for the past 12yrs. We dont want their dirty party to rule us again, do u know how many politicians are deflecting from PDP. Their days are numbered!. . . we will campaign till everyone in the villages know how to use their votes to cause a change to their lives.

Vote Wisely, Vote Ribadu!

@Gaygaskia and Ladi02

Both sides of the same coin. Instead of you to answer question, you are countering be asking another question.

Ribadu has not proven himself in any managerial sphere. IBB and Atiku whether you like them or not have a track record you can judge them on. IBB was president for 8 years and Atiku was vice president for 4 years.

Obama was a senator before he bacame the President and Cameron was the leader of the opposition. They are career politicians

Ribadu was a policeman that became a government appointee of EFCC. He has no track record in politics.

Chasing Alamesigha and Dariye round europe does not qualify one to be a good president
@bermuda1

guess you are not aware that the reason things are not working in Nigeria is corruption.

Guess you have also not considered what "experience" IBB or Atiku had before they became "good leaders" like you claim

I dont believe either men had proved themselves in politics prior to holding the positions they disgracefully held.

I hope i have answered your question, yes Ribadu was a policeman and later established EFCC as the organisation it is today! and he is no less able to become our President like the others who never had any political experience prior to their tenure.

bermuda1:
What are Ribadu's credentials?  Doing an okay job as EFCC chair does not qualify one for the exalted position of the presidency
What did Jonathan do with the Seimens case, he could not even attempt to take them to court!

@bermuda so who has the credentials to be a Nigerian President? IBB?? Atiku?. . .u better wake up and fight for change from PDP

@ Abagworo,

You have a point, but opposition needs to unite. That is why I see a Pat Utomi / Nuhu Ribadu ticket as a probably the best Nigeria need for now
Monkeyleg why not a RIbadu/Fashola ticket. I think Utomi has proved too desperate to be VP or P.
EducationRe: Fg Names Location Of Six New Varsities by ladi02(m): 11:19am On Nov 24, 2010
This whole move is because Jonathan wants a Federal University in Bayelsa

Lol the other 5 states are only enjoying, because He cant approve a Federal university for Bayelsa alone

Politicians will also be politicians!

The ones we have are not yet equipped, yet you go ahead and build more for your selfish reasons! sad

SapeleGuy:
It is a sad state of affairs when threads like these are completely ignored by Nairalanders - It says so much about our priorities as a nation and the lip service that is paid to the fight against corruption.
Nigerians in general are not interested in issues that doesnt affect them directly, hence the reason the government gets away with alot of things.
What we havent realised is, stopping an issue at an early stage will benefit all of us.

How can the government sweep this under the carpet, because top govt officials are involved, what kind of message are they sending out to present govt officials, talkless of the international world.

GEJ is not any better than a common PDP politician. . . . .unfortunately majority of NLnders are ready to vote for him come 2011, and then come back in here to complain and cry about what the govt is doing wrong

This step is a step backwards in Nigeria's fight against corruption angry

God help us!
