One agency in Nigeria that is known to have failed and no one seems to bother about is the Nigerian Police Force, the recent decision by GEJ to buy more helicopters to me doesnt seem to be a solution to the NPF failure. Nigerian police now dont hide the fact they collect bribe i'm starting to doubt an increase in salary can do anything. Lets post ideas on how we can have an effective NPF with serving and protecting as their main aim A solution i think is we begin a positive awareness of the public of what the police is to us, a psychological change by the public and the police will go a long way in rebuilding the NPF. An advert on TV showing the police polite to citizens, protecting the citizens, saying NO to bribe with a tag New NPF will go a long way towards the psychological change needed and most especially testing and training of our police and raising the standards. Because it is obvious the police and the public have no clue what the police job is again! ![]() |

rebranded:Right of first refusal (ROFR or RFR) is a contractual right that gives its holder the option to enter a business transaction with the owner of something, according to specified terms, before the owner is entitled to enter into that transaction with a third party. In brief, the right of first refusal is similar in concept to a call option. Example: ROFR: Abe owns a house that he plans to sell to Bo for $1 million. However, Carl holds a right of first refusal to purchase the house. Therefore, before Abe can sell the house to Bo, he must first offer it to Carl for $1 million. If Carl accepts, he buys the house instead of Bo. If Carl declines, Bo may now buy the house at the proposed $1 million price. Source: Wikipedia Life |

President Goodluck Jonathan has asked former Goldman Sachs investment banker Mustafa Chike-Obi to run the state-owned "bad bank" to absorb the non-performing loans of nine institutions rescued in a N600 billion bailout a year ago. The President submitted the nomination of Chike-Obi, the son of a celebrated Nigerian mathematician, to the National Assembly for approval earlier today. The Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON), as the institution is known, was passed into law in July although uncertainy about how it will value non-performing loans has delayed the sale of rescued banks to new investors. The appointment of directors marks another step down the long road to resolution of the debt hangover, which continues to hamper the development of Africa's third-biggest economy. Other appointments are Aliyu Kola Belgore as AMCON chairman and Hewet Adegboyega Benson, Dosunmu Mofoluke Benedicta and Abbas Muhammad Jega as executive directors. Belgore is a prominent figure in Nigerian financial circles with experience dealing with troubled banks. Commercial banks have tightened lending in Nigeria since the bailout of the nine lenders, who were classified as dangerously undercapitalised. The aim of AMCON is to free up bank balances to allow them to lend again. The rescued banks made provisions for loan losses of more than 2.2 trillion naira ($16.6 billion) by the end of September last year and have negative shareholder funds of 1.5 trillion naira. Several foreign and local banks as well as private equity firms are interested in recapitalising the rescued banks but are unlikely to do so until the bad loans are off their books. semid4lyfe:Who anointed GEJ?? |
@labiyemmy:Most of The Nigerian Govt's revenue is from oil young man, tax does not make up majority of our revenue unlike other developed countries, so everyone has the right to say "our money" or does the revenue not belong to everybody ![]() |
FEC could have comfortably awarded the contract to three Nigerian manufacturing companies to produce, but guess they would rather pump $6.5 into a foreign economy while theirs continue to struggle, bunch of wise folks we got in FEC |
texazzpete:I like doubting people like you, everyone says we need change and continue to doubt the change can happen without working towards it @Beef Is that a 1993 document was Nigeria in democracy at that time? |

Nigeria ex-governor James Ibori arrested in Dubai One of Nigeria's most influential and wealthy politicians, James Ibori, has been arrested in Dubai. The former governor of oil-rich Delta state is accused of stealing funds worth $290m (£196m) by Nigeria's EFCC anti-corruption agency. Last month, police were attacked by Mr Ibori's supporters while trying to arrest him in his home town. For years, he has denied corruption allegations but is also wanted by police in the UK. He is a senior figure in Nigeria's ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and played a key role in the 2007 presidential election victory of Umaru Yar'Adua, who died last week. PDP Governors Nigeria's runaway governor The BBC News website profiles Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the Nigerian governor who is under investigation after jumping bail in the UK. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, governor of Nigeria's Bayelsa state, has an official CV that boasts awards including Best Governor on Security and the Golden Trophy for Good Governance. British prosecutors argue that his achievements also include money laundering to the tune of £1.8m ($3.2m). The governor denies this charge - but responded to it by developing a new talent as an escapologist as he jumped bail and fled the UK, eventually reappearing back in Bayelsa. Nigeria's anti-corruption agents also say he is a master of disguise, donning women's clothing as he fled - though the governor denies this. But he told the BBC that he does not remember any other details of the long journey home Read More: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4499962.stm |

Ribadu, change Nigeria needs -Akeredolu THE former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Monday, declared his support for former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who plans to run for president in 2011 on the ticket of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Akeredolu spoke at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), as chairman of the fourth Emeritus Lecture series in honour of Professor David Ijalaye. “I say to you here, without any fear of contradiction, and I declare it here today - this is the first time I am saying it in public - I believe Nuhu Ribadu is the change we need,” he said. Akeredolu, speaking about some other presidential aspirants, said those aspirants who had the chance to lead the country in the past had no moral ground to talk about change or run for president. He charged the students to resist bad leadership, adding that “we cannot continue to give those who represent this decadent status quo. “We all have reasons to call their bluff and tell them enough is enough. They have trampled on us for too long. We need to tell the leaders to search their conscience. How do you have the IBBs of this world; the Atikus of this world to say to us that now they want to change Nigeria?” In his speech, entitled What Purpose Does Our Vote Serve?, Ribadu highlighted some of the problems facing the nation, including the lack of quality education and judicial integrity. “It is a huge shame and a massive rebuke on the integrity of governance in the country today that even the statutory demands on educational development is not met,” he said. Ribadu, while addressing the challenges in the judiciary, said without any urgent reform in the criminal justice system, “the vision of a democratic Nigeria will remain a pipeline dream.” Read More: http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/11461-ribadu-change-nigeria-needs-akeredolu |

The Federal Government, on Wednesday, approved the purchase of 60,000 units of British Waste Bins at N927,600,000, to maintain a clean and healthy environment in Abuja. The Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, made this known to State House correspondents in Abuja after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by Vice-Presideant Namadi Sambo. She said the bins would contain the volume of waste being generated in the Federal Capital Territory. Akunyili said that the council approved the purchase of the waste bins because the major challenge confronting the FCT Administration in waste management was inadequate waste receptacles in the city. “Studies have shown that locally-produced plastic waste bins are very low in quality and not compatible with the lifting devices of the waste compacting trucks. “The previous efforts by the board to address these problems did not yield the desired result. “In order to maintain a clean and healthy environment in FCT, the council approved the award of contract for the supply of 60,000 units of 240-litre plastic British bins in the sum of N927,600,000,” she said. The minister said that the waste bins would be distributed to the residents of FCT, while the cost would be recovered within a period of two years through waste bills. Akunyili said that there was a budgetary provision of N1.1 billion in the FCT 2010 budget for the project. She also said that the council also approved N455 million for the procurement of additional waste disposal equipment, D7R Series II track bulldozer and Pay-Loader for the FCT. According to her, the equipment include a landfill compactor, a wheel-loader and steer loader. Akunyili said that the council approved additional N1.95 billion for the completion of the new headquarters complex of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. She explained that the additional cost came due to “inevitable changes that further enhanced the quality and standard of the building.” Akunyili maintained that N4.7 billion had been appropriated in the 2010 amendment appropriation, including the augmentation amount of N1.95 billion.
