We cant afford to lose all our investment in the North and south west because of Biafra madness – Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has pointed out that the Southeast elites would be the greatest losers if Biafra is achieved. He said the Southeast elites have invested in every part of Nigeria especially the north; hence they cannot afford to lose their investments due to Biafra agitation. Speaking on Channels Television, Umahi said the Southeast elites are against Biafra but rather prefer to be treated equally as Nigerians. Umahi said: “Meanwhile, every elite in South-East is not desirous of Biafra, we don’t want Biafra; we want to be treated equally like other regions in Nigeria. “So, this idea of Biafra is madness and we have said, ‘No’, we don’t want Biafra. “If we go our separate ways, South-East people will lose a lot because we the elites ha’ve invested a lot in every part of this nation. It is not to our advantage to leave our investment and walk away.” He accused the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, of sending out messages of fear and killing across the Southeast. https://dailypost.ng/2021/10/07/ipob-we-will-lose-our-investment-in-nigeria-if-we-achieve-biafra-umahi-rubbishes-agitation/

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) last Sunday released the “Pandora Papers,” an exposé of the financial secrets and offshore dealings of dozens of heads of state, public officials and politicians from 91 countries and territories. Incidentally, Mr. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP in last presidential election, was alleged to have been mentioned in the report. Mr. Obi is a household name in Nigeria for his successes as both a private businessman and a politician. He remains today the most successful governor produced by Anambra State; first to serve two-terms and he left government with his heads held high. Among many Nigerians, he is widely regarded as potential for a shot at the presidency of the country. He has also been speaking out against inefficiencies in government; proffering solutions on how to arrest the decline in accountability in public offices. With his name allegedly listed in the papers, interest is generated; political opponents are woofing for blood and Mr. Obi’s head appears on the guillotine. According CNN, “more than 600 journalists from 150 outlets spent two years investigating nearly 12 million confidential files — a bigger cache of documents than 2016’s Panama Papers. It is worthy to note that some of the world leaders mentioned in that report, including Russian President, Vladimir Putin; former British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair; King Abdullah Il bin Al-Hussien of Jordan, have all denied any wrong doing. We have read the report published by Premium Times and I found it troubling. From the title, “Pandora Papers: Inside Peter Obi’s secret businesses – and how he broke the law”, it was obvious that Premium Times was out to rubbish Mr. Obi and damage his profile. I am not out to defend the former governor, as he’s capable of doing so himself. However, I am worried that Premium Times has gone beyond its role to pass verdict on Mr. Obi. It described him as a man assumed to be clean and then went ahead to state, “but beyond the facade of priggish speeches and appearances, an investigation by PREMIUM TIMES has now shown that Mr. Obi is not entirely transparent in his affairs as he likes Nigerians to believe.” This is a hatchet job meant to put the ex-governor on the spot without properly establishing he had run foul of the law. Other news outlets have equally published the papers and not one of those mentioned was as indicted as Premium Times has done of Mr. Obi. The news organization created the wrong impression of Mr. Obi and one will be right to accuse them, and rightly too, of being a tool in the hands of those rattled by Obi’s rising profile. One cannot rule out political opponents, who are afraid of Obi’s chances ahead of the 2023 elections, using Premium Times to cut him down. By mixing news story with its opinion of the investigation, Premium Times passed judgment. This is wrong. Facts are sacred and opinions are free, and in news writing, you present the facts and leave opinion for the Opinion Pages. To infuse your opinion in a news story is wrong and on this Premium Times was judgmental. As far as the report goes, there was no where Mr. Obi was accused of stealing government money and depositing it into the so-called ‘Shell Companies”; the investigation never said that Anambra State money was missing and was found in the account. So, Mr. Peter should not be so profiled as Premium Times has done. Premium Times saw this report as an opportunity to ‘nail’ Obi, on whose behalf, I do not know. But it is in bad taste. You don’t editorialize in a news story. Mr. Peter was a successful business man before he ventured into politics. His curriculum vitae is intimidating. His success in whatever capacity he had participated remains a reference point. Naturally, he is a marked man. Premium Times was not fair to Mr. Obi and on that score, we fault the publication and see it as a hatchet job and witch-hunting.

Governors and leaders of Southeast geopolitical zone will on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, converge on Enugu State for an “urgent meeting”. The meeting to be hosted by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi holds at the Government House, Enugu. The meeting, he added, would be attended by Governors of the five States of the zone, Ohanaeze leaders and heads of religious and traditional institutions. Umahi begged his brother Governors to endeavour to be present and not on representative capacity. He wrote: “Your Excellencies and our highly esteemed leaders, in consultation with our Governors and President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, where a decision for an urgent meeting to be called was reached, may I therefore invite you for an emergency meeting of Southeast Governors, some leaders of Ohaneze, some of our political leaders, some of our religious leaders and some of our traditional leaders. “Venue: Enugu State Government House. Date: Tuesday, 5th October 2021 Time: 12Noon; Meeting will start. “Our leaders begged that I request all governors of Southeast to be please present at the time and not on representative capacity so that together we should reach some decisions to salvage our region that is presently battling with high rate of insecurity. “May I therefore request that you please endeavour to attend this meeting for the sake of Ndigbo”. A source to one of the governors, told The Nation that the governors would most likely discuss the challenge of establishing Ebubeagu in the region as well as the incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The source said: “As you can see, it’s very obvious that the governors have received all manner of insults for not being firm in the establishment of Ebubeagu. “You will agree with me that this vacuum they created led to the formation of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) by IPOB. If you check round the state, the people have accepted ESN because there’s no alternative to that. “When we talk about the renewed insecurity in the Southeast, anybody who wants to tell himself the truth will tell you that since the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, we have been having sit-at-home which has resulted in several deaths and arson. ” I think the governors will have to put an end to this and that is by discussing his arrest and giving assurance that he would be released. https://championnews.com.ng/seast-govs-ohanaeze-other-leaders-to-meet-oct-5/

I wonder why Buhari thanked Britain for Nigeria’s unification –Falana Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has said he was surprised that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), could hail Britain for uniting Nigeria in his Independence Day speech. Falana, while speaking on Sunday Politics, a current affairs programme of the Channels Television monitored by our correspondent in Abuja, noted that Nigeria is still grappling with underdevelopment due to its failure to remove structures mounted by the British colonialists. When asked if it had been so far so good since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, Falana said it had been “so far ,so bad.” The activist added, “Nigeria has refuse to get it right; whereas, in 1960, Nigeria was ahead of many countries in Asia, including, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the rest of them. Today, some of these countries have frog jumped; they have left us as a Third World country and they have metamorphosed into First World. Falana cited the example of the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army and other security agencies, which have “continued to perform the roles they were performing under the colonial regime, i.e. these were forces set up to intimidate and harass our people, and extort levies and taxes from them. And that has continued up till now.” He also noted that the colonial regime adopted divide et impera taxim – divide and rule – in order to satisfy imperialism; noting that Nigeria was not established for the development of the country but was set up to facilitate the brutal exploitation of its human and natural resources after the slave trade. “Unfortunately, when military adventurers in politics stepped in in 1960, the situation became worse. The country that was trying to practise federalism was turned into a unitary one,” Falana added. https://punchng.com/i-wonder-why-buhari-thanked-britain-for-nigerias-unification-falana/

****As IPOB uncovers secret cells where abducted members were kept in dire condition without food, access to relatives.. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised the alarm over alleged continued detention of its members by security agencies. The group said it was more provocative considering the out-of-reach condition of the victims from friends and family members. In a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB accused security agencies of flaunting laws once Biafra was involved. The statement partly reads: “we the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to alert the world of the continued and illegal detention of Biafrans by the Nigeria security agencies. “It is more provocative that these innocent victims are kept incommunicado in various secret cells out of the reach of friends and family members. “We have just discovered that some of the Biafra agitators abducted by the Nigerian police were kept incommunicado in a secret cell at the Mopol Base, and the State CID Command, Bende Road, Umuahia Abia State. “Since six months ago when these innocent Biafrans were abducted, we have been searching for them until now that we have discovered where they were hidden. “Some of the victims include Mazi Friday Ezegbulam a.k.a Nkuwasi who was picked at Umudike junction; Mazi Chamaroke Onwuka, a retired police officer who was picked up in his office along Bende Road Umuahia; and about 35 others arrested mostly in Aba. “We are calling on men and women of conscience across the globe to take a record of the atrocities of the wicked security agents and to prevail on government to release these innocent Biafrans unconditionally. “If they won’t release these victims let them be charged to court instead of keeping them in detention indefinitely without trial. “The Nigeria law recommends that a suspect be charged to court within 24 hours. But the security agencies have the penchant of flaunting the laws once Biafra is involved. “They are scared of bandits and terrorists but derive pleasure in killing and torturing peaceful Biafran agitators.” https://thenationonlineng.net/ipob-to-fg-release-detained-biafrans-in-secret-cells/

Nigerians in Diaspora have called for more support from Nigerians at home, for the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, saying its giant strides should be commended. In a statement by Prof. Peter Otah, Secretary of Nigerian Leaders in Diaspora (NLID), the Nigerian Diaspora leaders made the call at a rally in London, United Kingdom. Mr Ade Omole, while addressing the rally said Nigeria was lucky to have Buhari at this point in time. “Providence shined on Nigeria the day Buhari was declared winner of the 2015 presidential election. “Buhari has not left anyone in doubt that his efforts are to ensure an egalitarian Nigeria that will ensure economic prosperity, corrupt-free society and a nation that is viably secure for business,” he said. Also Mr Talba Galadima, one of the Nigerian leaders in the Diaspora, said Nigeria had never had it this good in the last four decades until the emergence of Buhari. He stressed that the many obvious landmarks the Buhari administration had made were pointers to the fact that the country was projected for long-lasting economic and social el dorado. Also speaking, Ms Edith Nwachukwu, said Nigeria was blessed to have a man with unparalleled integrity like Buhari as her President. She described Buhari as a master infrastructure builder, saying that the president had made impact on the lives of Nigerians with the various projects embarked on since 2015. Nwachukwu maintained that a government that had turned the entire country into a construction site deserved support and commendation from its people. https://von.gov.ng/2021/08/01/nigerians-in-diaspora-rally-support-for-president-buhari-commend-military/

******accuses Buhari and APC of using blackmail to force members of opposition parties into their fold. A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attaining power through lies and deceit. “For Buhari to now receive PDP members in the Villa, that is irresponsible. This means corruption because to steal PDP’s ticket and take it to another party is the worst corruption ever,” Sule Lamido said. https://www./2021/08/01/apc-cant-go-beyond-2023-buhari-encouraging-defection-sule-lamido/

A judicial process towards compelling the Director General of the State Security Services’ obedience to the positive Order of Court, has just been activated. There must be consequences for flouting a Court Order. We shall keep on updating the World, as we progress, but be ASSURED that this one too shall definitely pass. We are firmly on ground monitoring every situation as it plays out here, and shall not hesitate to raise alarm where necessary. Thank you and remain blessed. Nnamdi Kanu: Respect law, allow IPOB leader access to his lawyers – HURIWA to Dss The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to be law-abiding and honour its obligations to the constitution by allowing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, unfettered access to his lawyers. HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and Miss. Zainab Yusuf, the National Media Director, said the continuous disrespect to the judicial powers of the Federation domiciled in the court of law by the constitution being flouted serially by the DSS is a signal that Nigeria has become lawless. It added that anarchy has increasingly set in thereby undermining the essence of constitutional democracy. The statement read, “We urge the hierarchy of the Department of State Services (DSS) to stop operating like a lawless contraption and thereby painting Nigeria like a banana Republic before rational members of the international community by denying accused persons such as the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the legally permitted access to his lawyers and doctors. “We urge the international community, especially the Great Britain to put pressure on President Buhari to be a respecter of the Nigerian legal systems and stop desecrating the supreme law of the Country by allowing security agencies who take direct instruction from him from violating binding orders made by the Courts of law which violates section 6 of the Grund Norm. “It’s hypocritical for President Muhammadu Buhari to mouth his respect for the due process of the law as he mounted the global rostrum of a summit in London few hours back only for the Department of State Services, which he teleguides to continuously rubbish the PRINCIPLE OF RULE OF LAW.” “The leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be accorded all his rights as specified by the Constitution and by all the international Human Rights and humanitarian laws including allowing him to enjoy unfettered access to his lawyers and to his medical Professionals to his choice. It’s beyond imagination that Prime minister of Great Britain Mr. Boris Johnson keeps hosting President Muhammadu Buhari in Britain when it is notorious that the Nigerian President has long abandoned the respect for the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians as specified in international legal documents under the auspices of the United Nations with Great Britain as one of the five Permanent members of the Security Council of the United Nations. What exactly is Great Britain telling the World? Is it that the British People backs dictatorial regimes in Africa’s largest nation? This is reprehensible and odious.

Nigerian Shiites Express Confidence Their Detained Leader, El-Zakzaky Will Regain Freedom On Wednesday The next court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28 at the Kaduna State High Court. A member of the Resource Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Mohammed Ibrahim has said the members of the group are certain that justice will be served and that their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky will be freed from prison. Ibrahim said members of the group are patiently waiting for the court to establish a ”no-case submission" regarding the charges levelled against their leader, who has allegedly been tortured and assaulted since 2015. He noted that the Kaduna state government had made contradictory claims at various points in the case, which he said was proof that El-Zakzaky was innocent. He called on all Nigerians and every kind-hearted individual in the world to patiently and keenly watch as events unfold. A statement Ibrahim sent to SaharaReporters read, “The Islamic Movement in Nigeria is patiently waiting for the establishment of 'No case submission' on the flimsy charges filed against Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife by the Kaduna State government come July 28, 2021. “You may recall the 12 December 2015 Zaria Massacre which was carried out by the Nigerian Army under the pretext of blocking the road to the then Chief of Army Staff (Tukur Buratai). That was the claim and propaganda used to deceive the majority gullible Nigerian public (sic). “However, immediately after the court verdict passed by Hon. Justice Kolawole in Abuja, the Kaduna State Government through its Attorney and Commissioner for Justice, filed charges against Sheikh El-Zakzaky and his wife which among others include abetment to culpable homicide. “This is contradictory and antithetical to their earlier claims and propaganda that Army Chief's road was blocked by IMN members. “Therefore, it will interest you to note that all the charges levelled against Sheikh El-Zakzaky were the same charges filed against the over 200 IMN members prosecuted by the Kaduna State government before the state high courts, which eventually discharged and acquitted all the Defendants. “Hence our case today is a call and reminder to the general public and particularly the people of conscience in the world of humanity, equity, and natural justice that we have preserved and endured enough over the incarceration of our leader. “We have tolerated enough but we are grateful to Almighty Allah for giving us the strength, morale, and courage to withstand the prosecution and all sorts of oppressive and repressive powers exerted upon us by this government as He spares all our lives to witness the end of this case. “Nigerian citizens and the people of conscience all over the world are keenly and patiently watching the trend of events as they unfold regarding this case. We are very much confident that the court will be left with no option but to do justice, paving the way for yet another victory for us and humanity in general.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/07/27/nigerian-shiites-express-confidence-their-detained-leader-el-zakzaky-will-regain-freedom |
