Health / Re: Lump In The Chest- Graphics Pix Attached by Laenec: 8:29pm On Dec 17, 2019 |
Please Medical personnel in the house, I will need your help. A friend has this lump in the chest close to the neck, he has gone for different test. He was later asked to do CT scan which he did and they said it is Tumor. Sorry about the fact that this condition is happening to your friend. Tumour is an abnormal growth in the body The issue now is the guy is so scared of going for the operation, I want to know first the likely cost of such operations, any side effect, any alternative to the operations. Any suggestion is welcomed. Are you bringing the issue to this platform because he is afraid? The likely cost of surgeries always depends on multiple factors; the type of surgery and the type of hospital (private or public). Moreover, the expenses of admission, especially if he would need an intensive care, should be put in consideration. Please be aware you have not told us the exact diagnosis. The Surgeon who opted for surgery knew what he saw in the CT scan and biopsy. This is obscured to all readers on this forum. The extent of the growth and other structures involved are unknown here. Pls don't tell me that this is not hospital, we have exhausted our knowledge that's why I'm asking for suggestions from people that might have seen such cases and how it was handled. Those who may say this is not a hospital could be invariably doing you good after all. There is limit to the facts you can provide here to give a perfect advice for treatment, except from someone who had questioned and examined your friend. Perhaps you are not comfortable with the managing surgeon, well, for this case, in my opinion, it's best in the purview of a cardiothoracic surgeon. So, you could ask for a referral to a chest surgeon. Be aware non-cancerous tumours could transform to cancerous ones and total removal and examination with a microscope by a pathologist gives the final say, medically. That's the process. Please I need your help on this. I hope this has been helpful a bit. I wish him the best. |

Hello, everyone. Please I need an urgent advice for action in the next 12 hours. Did my biometrics (28 May, 2019). I'd got no message form TLS contact, however, UK embassy, after I mailed, said the decision had been made. Tracking information still states that application still with DMC. I sent a mail to TLS, they replied with an automated message that it is still being processed. I plan to travel for an important program in the UK by Monday. Any advice, please? |

Seun: It's amazing you didn't consult health professionals before you posted this opinion. Please be informed, that God is the greatest scientist! http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/circumcision/basics/why-its-done/prc-20013585 Circumcision might have various health benefits, including: Easier hygiene: Circumcision makes it simpler to wash the penis. Washing beneath the foreskin of an uncircumcised penis is generally easy, however. Decreased risk of urinary tract infections: The overall risk of urinary tract infections in males is low, but these infections are more common in uncircumcised males. Severe infections early in life can lead to kidney problems later on. Decreased risk of sexually transmitted infections: Circumcised men might have a lower risk of certain sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Still, safe sexual practices remain essential. Prevention of penile problems. Occasionally, the foreskin on an uncircumcised penis can be difficult or impossible to retract (phimosis). This can lead to inflammation of the foreskin or head of the penis. Decreased risk of penile cancer: Although cancer of the penis is rare, it's less common in circumcised men. In addition, cervical cancer is less common in the female sexual partners of circumcised men. 1 Like |

@op It will be heartbreaking when such person sees the picture of his post-ictal state on social media when he becomes conscious afterwards. You could do well to preserve his dignity by removing his picture from here. It is never his fault to have a seizure disorder as it could be you or anyone you know. Seizure could be caused by multiple factors, rarely may have a cause that was absent during the time of recruitment. Of course, yes, you might not have had it in mind to stain his image but be aware such people deserve privacy and image protection. Regards. |
Education / Re: Medical Students To Spend 7 Years In Nigerian Universities by Laenec: 4:18pm On Nov 03, 2015 |
Our leaders misplace priorities. Extending years of medical training isn't the solution to the claimed problem. The quality of training and schemes of exposure is what should be worked upon. Extension of years in training unveils weekness if trainers. Not all those that repeated years in medical school automatically got better than those who finished ahead of them. The NUC should work on strategic training and mentorship of students into specialist training into postgraduate years. A lot of students spend more than this already. Except hands-on experience is introduced into this 1year extension, I see it as unnecessary. 4 Likes |

"Youths, you are the leaders of tomorrow", it seems they lied to us when elders said this. Africa still has leadership issues, agreed. It is shameful that some leaders we knew while we were kids still rule now that we have our own kids. But regardless, I can still say it boldly that the bold journalists were uncouth and should get refined. We wish you well Zimbabwe, your liberation is imminent. 1 Like |

This is not the first time we ll see a financial scandal like this. Farouk, Otedola et al. But it is hot this moment because the country is really in financial mess. ASUU on strike, people dying owing to doctors' strike sequel to lack of fund and now you suddenly heard a ministry bought 2 cars for 255million naira.' Farouk once said, "I didnt collect bribe". Later said i did, so as to expose him. Stella Oduah's spokesman said the vehicle was bought for her due to death threat. Stella said today, "the cars were not bought for me". I told them to do the needful. To move Nigeria forward, we need to be detribalized and non-sentimental and it should start from now. Let's do the needful and not the so called 'needful'. The 'bud' and 'underneath of the carpet' should be lacking in space by now. |

Health / Re: Surgery Done With a 'rechargeable lamp' In Nigeria... by Laenec: 3:08pm On Oct 16, 2013 |
It is so amazing people are seeing this for the first time. A number of worse scenerios still exist. There are situations where lamps and phone touch (nokia) have been used to set IV lines, suture bleeding wounds and complete some surgeries. Take a tourist trip to some State govt hospitals and see. If doctors refuse to work under these conditions, they are seen as wicked. But usually left with this choice in matter of life and death. God Bless Nigeria! We'll get there one day. |
