Politics › Re: Dickson Storms INEC Collation Centre, Southern Ijaw - The Nation by lagosrd: 5:23pm On Dec 06, 2015 |
kahal29: The Governor of Bayelsa State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Seriake Dickson, Sunday morning, reportedly forced his way into the collation centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Onopa, Yenagoa LGA.
The Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation (SICO) said Dickon stormed the place at about 11pm Saturday night and threatened to ‘deal seriously’ with agents of the APC, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, former Deputy Governor and Mr. Fortune Panebi, State Publicity Secretary of the APC.
SICO’s Director, Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba said the action of Dickson was clearly against the electoral law as he had no authority as a candidate to go to the Yenagoa Collation Centre especially as he was not from the LGA.
He alleged that the governor, who threatened to deal with the two APC agents, was at the collation centre to manipulate results being collated from different wards in Yenagoa.
He said: “The APC agents were said to have countered the moves by the PDP to manipulate the results that had been turned-in before some aides to the Governor alerted him of the developments at the Yenagoa Collation centre.
“The APC decided to raise the alarm and place the information in the public domain as the Governor’s desperation in the face of imminent defeat is such that he is ready all electoral laws”, he said.
He said fresh reports further indicated that the governor early morning in Sunday led a large delegation to Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, to protest against the rescheduled election.
He said: “Governor Dickson is from Sagbama Local Government Area and has no basis going to monitor conduct of an election in another Local Government Area on an election day in line with the electoral guidelines.
“This is clearly an act of desperation by the Governor, who is the candidate of the PDP in the election.
“Dickson, in company of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Kombowei Benson, who is from the LGA reportedly met with INEC officials on the ground and told them not to go ahead with the poll.
“The INEC officials had reportedly told the Governor, he had no powers to stop the election.
“Governor Dickson was the chief sponsor of violent attacks in most of the communities.”
http://thenationonlineng.net/dickson-storms-inec-collation-centre-southern-ijaw/ The apc guys wants to manipulate the result. That ua why up till now the results from different collation centres have not been announced. Had it been that the apc was leading you would have seen results everywhere. |

iliyande: The rights of Taraba FC players was yesterday trampled upon, as soldier numbering over eleven brutalized the players for besieging the government in protest over non payment of their eleven months salaries.
The players claimed they were yet to be paid their remunerations and match bonus by the state government. They stormed the Government House at about 7a.m on a peaceful protest, preventing both staffs and political appointees from gaining access into the premises. But they met a brick wall, as the soldiers drafted into the arena by the state government gave the footballers serious beating.
Government activities in the government house as at the time of this report was on a standstill, as top government functionaries are running up and down seeking for way of persuading the players.
Among top government functionaries who could not gain access to the government house yesterday includes the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Col. Wunike Agyo, Special Adviser on Rural Development, Mammud Abubakar, the Chief Protocol Officer, Kabiru Marafa, Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Mijiyawa and the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Lawal Sani Kona.
Speaking with newsmen, the team captain, Kelvin Njoku, expressed dismay at the “deliberate” refusal of the state government to “pay us our salaries for the past eleven months.”
Apart from the salaries, which he said the state government has “refused to pay in spite of the bailout given to them by the federal government,” the government, Njoku said “has also refused to pay us our match bonuses.”
It was learnt that the military, who have been keeping vigil in the state capital, were ushered into the government house armed with horsewhip, and the riffles and manhandled the players who vowed to remain in the government house pending when their demands are meant.
Earlier, the Chief of staff to the government, Rebo Usman said the government was aware of their plights, adding that machineries have been put in place to pay them.

Stop pretending to be 'unbiased'. You are supporting this failure of a Governor.
Dasuki was prevented from flying overseas because he is wanted on other charges and is a flight risk. He was re-arrested on other charges, not the ones he was bailed for
The DSS has been in charge of Dasuki's case because his case heavily involved national security and involves a number of high profile individuals. This will be a joint investigation between the DSS and the EFCC
Lamorde, Kingsley Kuku and several others have fled overseas all in the name of 'medical checkup' to escape prosecution. With such an established history of suspects fleeing prosecution, why are you surprised that the FG was extremely reluctant to allow Dasuki travel? Our dear friend,it equally means you have neither been following the court proceedings that allowed dansuki travelled out of the country.the lawyer was said to stand in gap for him and produce him on the day the court will reconvene. This primarily means that any attempt to dansuki ti jump bail, his lawyer will be in soup. So FG was wrong in flouting the court order. However let me help you domesticate the serial implications of flouting court orders. It equally means police officers will arrest, detain and detain a suspect even when a court of competent jurisdiction has vindicated the person so I hope you now see that the innocent poor man will loose most when there is a powerful man pulling the strings from behind. |

Politics › Re: Osun’s Federal Allocation Can’t Pay Electricity Bill – Aregbesola by lagosrd: 10:40pm On Nov 30, 2015 |
micronut: Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, says Osun State received only N55m from the Federation Account for the month of September, 2015. He said the money could not even settle the electricity bill of the government secretariat. The governor said the development was evidence that Nigeria was experiencing an economic meltdown.
He, therefore, called on residents of the state to return to agriculture as oil could no longer sustain the nation’s economy. The governor said this during the inauguration of the new Ife/Orile-Owu 33KV feeder line at Orile-Owu in Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state, according to a statement on Sunday.
The governor said that apart from the price issue, crude oil was no longer selling as fast as it used to, adding that Nigeria must seek other sources of revenue.
He said, “We must at this point tell ourselves the truth; there is no money coming from the Federation Account, 34 million barrels of Nigeria’s crude oil are on the sea without buyers.“Money coming from the Federation Account has reduced seriously and our hope of survival is in our hands, what our forefathers lived on was agriculture.
“We must now go back to the farms and work. We also need to pay our taxes so that the government can meet its responsibilities. For September, our state got N55.8 million. The money we received cannot pay for the power supply by IBEDC that we use at the state secretariat monthly.
“I want to use this opportunity to admonish us to return to the farms, what we used to rely on as a country and state is no longer there. Oil prices have now dropped seriously, even at about $41 per barrel from a price of over$ 100; Nigeria still cannot sell her oil in the international market.”The governor said his administration recently gave hectares of land to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture for farming and with the electrification of Orile-Owu and other farm settlements, there would be a boost in agriculture around these areas. He urged the people of the state to pay their taxes to the government to discharge its duties.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party said the receipt of a paltryN55m by Osun State as the allocation from the Federation Account for the month of September was a confirmation that the state was highly indebted.
The spokesperson for the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, who said this in a statement on Sunday, stated that the allocation remained N55m after deductions of over N1bn to service its debts were made from the source.
The PDP stated that the people of the state should know why Osun State got a paltry N55m while those in the same category with it got about N2bn.
The statement read, “We have been saying it long before now that Osun State has been slaughtered and eaten up by a gluttonous administration that has been in power in the last five years. The gimmick early this year was ‘Jonathan didn’t give Osun money’ but now, that cannot sell again, hence the confession.
“Before the confession by Ogbeni Aregbesola, three Nigerian newspapers on Friday, November 20, published an allocation table and Osun got N55m, after all deductions, and came last. The next state to Osun among the least earners got N1.5bn.
“What other signs do we need to see that Osun has completely fallen into a recession? But the people of Osun deserve to know from their leader how the state got into this quagmire. This leads us to the question of how much Osun owes. Mr. Governor said the state owes N88bn. But we insist the amount is far more than this.”The party warned the governor against slamming high taxes on the people of the state, adding that the administration had already impoverished the people with its policies.
In a separate statement, the Civil Society Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State also said that Aregbesola’s administration had no right to collect any taxes from the people ofthe state because of its failure to comply with the sections of the constitution which stipulates conditions for the collection of taxes.
The chairman of the group, Mr. Sulaiman Adeniyi, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday.
He said the policies of the government had led to the total collapse of the economy of the state and accused the administration of massive corruption and failure to perform its duties to the people.
