FOOTBALLER Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in a TV interview after revealing his alcoholic father never got the chance to see him become a superstar.

The Juventus forward, 34, told Piers Morgan that he barely knew former soldier Dinis before he died in 2005 aged 52.

Ronaldo said: “I really don’t know my father 100 per cent. He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard.”

After being shown footage of Dinis giving an interview about his son ahead of Euro 2004 in Portugal, Cristiano welled up on hearing him speak with so much pride.

Where is the footage?

Myopic write-up. The author wrote as far as he could see, and it is obvious he isnt seeing beyond his nose.
I have met Nigerians at the start and end of their foreign post grad studies, and the difference is huge! You will see a medicine related graduate who cannot handle basic lab equipment, or even still using mouth to suck dangerous chemicals up a pipette. That is why they struggle so much in practicals when they start abroad.

You lack simple comprehension; and so many readers here.

It was, however, not clear on when or how the kidnap kingpin was rearrested.

The police are expected to release a statement on his arrest later.

Igbere TV reports that Wadume has been on the run after escaping arrest with the help of some soldiers who opened fire police officers in Taraba weeks back.

Culture / Re: Learning From the Life of HungerBad by Lagzy12: 2:10pm On May 24, 2019
TONYE001:
Hello,

Good morning.

Trust you all are doing OK.

Firstly, I would love to start by explaining why I brought this to the Culture Section of Nairaland. We were taught that culture is people's way of life. This piece addresses our way of life, here on Nairaland, at least.

I woke up to meet the sad news of the demise of this wonderful fellow, HungerBad. I didn't have any direct dealings with him but I knew him for two things - his comments and his benevolence. May his soul rest in God's perfect peace, may those he left behind find strength to carry on.

Nairaland is a faceless forum. Each day we come online, we interact with monikers, sometimes we forget that behind these monikers are actual humans with real names, families and real lives. I've been here for a while. I've seen things. I've seen people play over someone's depression, I've seen people mock others that need some sort of help or the other. I've seen people say terrible things about others. I've seen people wish others death. I've seen comments where users threaten to kill others. In the heat of the just concluded elections, I saw folks do things that I fear even animals may not do to themselves. I've seen people celebrate the deaths of others. This list is endless.

But there's more. I've seen good deeds go down here too. A couple of times, I've seen fundraising threads for one sick person or the other. I've seen sincere efforts by people to help other people with jobs, tuition, etc. The annual Xfire Scholarship comes to mind. HungerBad's repeated show of kindness comes to mind too.

HungerBad was a kind fellow. Regular users of this forum must have come across his good deeds at one point or the other. He was not discouraged by the activities of scammers that's of course ubiquitous here. He looked beyond the lines of cultural divisions. He gave to all. Hausas. Igbos. Yorubas.

To HungerBad, it didn't matter whether you are Christian or Muslim. All that mattered to him was that you needed help. More like, a human needs help. This was enough for him.

There are a few lessons we all can pick from this fellow. Our country is already in a terrible state. People are jobless, people are angry. Why heat it further with tribalism and extreme political views? The elite continue to take the common man for a ride. They play on the gullibility of the average Nigerian. They exploit the natural hatred each geopolitical region has for the other. Why then do we hurt ourselves the more? Why can't we show unconditional love to each other just like our dear HungerBad did?

We tend to be unaware that behind each moniker is a human that may be at the verge of taking his life. We make all sorts of derogatory comments not minding the possible impacts. We forget too that silence, that is, not commenting on each and every thread, is an option. Mr. A opens a thread about a certain problem he's confronted with. Maybe a health challenge. The first commenter calls him unprintable names and makes jest of his condition. The second commenter follows suit and a cascade is set.

Who would have known that HungerBad was in the US Army? You can't be sure of the person behind a moniker you just wrongly attacked. He may be the doctor that stood for hours doing a procedure on your brother, he may be the driver that helped your stranded sister, she may be the lawyer that fought for the right of your daughter, or the good Samaritan that donated massively for the health of your father.

In conclusion, I urge each and every one of us to follow peace with all men. We must treat each other with a sense of respect. We must be quick to help, if we can. If we can't, we must move on, this is better than worsening the situation with an out-of-place comment.

Lastly, life is temporary. Whether we continue to live or die can be decided in seconds. Let's carry this consciousness at the back of our minds as we pursue our day-to-day activities.

Thank you.

cc: Ishilove, Lalasticlala.

Can't be more right!!!

Politics / Re: The 62 Failed 2015 Election Campaign Promises Of Muhammadu Buhari And APC by Lagzy12: 10:04pm On Feb 03, 2019
teufelein:
42. Reforming and strengthening the justice system for efficient administration and
dispensation of justice with the creation of special courts for accelerated hearing of
corruption, drug trafficking, terrorism and ancillary cases – FAILED

The government has not created any special court to address any of the areas indicated above.
Instead, the president has consistently disobeyed court orders and violated court rulings in many
cases. Sambo Dasuki, El- Zakzaky have been granted bails by several courts but are still being
held in custody.

43. Increasing national health expenditure per person per annum from less than N10, 00o
to about N50, 000 – FAILED

The government has not taken any action to make good this promise.

44. Reducing maternal mortality by more than 70 per cent within four years – FAILED

This is still a tall dream over three years after the APC government came into power. Bill Gates
had in March of 2018 said that Nigeria is one of the worst places on earth to give birth and 4th
country with the worst maternal mortality rate only ahead of Sierra Leone, Central African
Republic and Chad.

45. Abolition of state of origin and replacing it with state of residence to ensure Nigerians
are Nigerians first, before anything else - FAILED

No action has been taken to make the promise a reality.

46. Creating a Crime Squad to combat terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, militancy,
ethno-religious and communal clashes in the country – FAILED

The government has not created any crime squad for the purpose stated above. Instead we have
had an upsurge in all of these crimes.

47. Making Information Technology, Manufacturing, Agriculture and Entertainment key
drivers of our economy – FAILED

Very little or nothing has been done to drive the national economy on the bases of these sectors.

48. Creating a N300 billion Regional Growth Fund (average of N50bn in each geo-political
zone) to be managed by the REDAs – FAILED

No action has so far been taken to actualize this electoral promise.

49. Amending the Constitution and the Land Use Act to create freehold/leasehold interests
in land along with matching grants for states to create a nationwide electronic land title
register on a state by state basis – FAILED

No serious action has been taken to fulfil this promise

50. Building of at least one functioning airport in each of the 36 states – FAILED

The APC government has not built a single new airport in any part of the country. It has,
however, completed the projects that were initiated by the Jonathan administration.

51. A constitutional amendment to oblige local governments in the country to publish
minutes of their meetings, service performance data, and spending over N10 million –FAILED

There has been no constitutional amendment to address the above issues and even local
government autonomy which was included in the last constitutional amendment was not passed
as only 10 states voted in support of the policy.

52. Construction of an airport in Ekiti State - FAILED

The government has not initiated any action to establish an airport in Ekiti State as was promised
during the 2015 campaigns.

53. Reduction of HIV/AIDs infection rate by 50 percent and other infectious diseases by 75
percent - FAILED

There are no baseline data to show that the country has reduced HIV/AIDS infection rate by 50
per cent and or other infectious diseases by 75 per cent as promised.

54. Ensuring that political officer holders earn salaries and emoluments as determined and
approved by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC)- FAILE

The government has not taken any action to ensure that this policy comes into effect even as the
National Assembly, CBN, NNPC, NDDC and other government agencies and parastatals still
pay far higher perks than what is recommended by RMFAC.

55. Ending gas flaring and ensuring sales of at least half of gas produced within the country- FAILED

Nothing serious has been done to stop gas flaring by oil companies operating in the Niger
Delta. It was only in October 2018 that the government issued a directive to multinational oil
firms to stop flaring by this year and increased the penalty by 600 per cent. Until the non-flaring
regime comes into effect, the government cannot appropriate it as an achievement.

56. Prompt passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and addressing local content
issues in the oil and gas sector – FAILED

The government has not given the accelerated attention it promised towards the passage of the
PIB Bill. Close to the end of its tenure, it is yet to push for the passage of the law.

57. Establishment of at least six new universities of science and technology with satellite
campuses in states of the Federation – FAILED

The government is yet to establish a single university of science and technology in any part of
the country.

58. Increasing the number of doctors from 19 per 1000 population to 50 per 1000 -FAILED

Instead of attracting more doctors, the country has witnessed a huge brain drain in the health
sector than ever before. Even the president has no confidence in the nation’s healthcare delivery
system and has consistently gone to the UK for treatment and for his son.

59. Strengthening operational and legal instruments to discipline members of the Armed
Forces over confirmed cases of human rights violations – FAILED

No serious action has been taken by the government to discipline errant officers and men of the
Nigerian Armed Forces in the face of gross human rights abuses. Instead, the Presidency has
always defended the Armed Forces anytime international bodies like Amnesty International,
Human Rights Watch etc, released reports indicting the military of rights violations.

60. Free maternal and child healthcare services – FAILED

The Federal Government has not initiated free maternal and childcare services in any part of the
country.

61. Upgrading all Federal Government-owned hospitals to world-class facilities within five
years – FAILED

None of the federal government-owned tertiary institutions has been upgraded to world-class
standard since the administration came into power.

62. The defeat of Boko Haram and the rehabilitation and reintegration of repentant
insurgents - FAILED

Boko Haram is still unleashing terror on many parts of the Northeast and has recently intensified
attacks in Borno and Yobe states. More soldiers have been killed by the insurgents than in the
past while morale has gotten to its lowest ebb among troops resulting in protests and mutiny.

Crime / Re: Real Story Behind Young Lady Who 'ran Mad' After Getting Charmed By Yahoo Boys by Lagzy12: 1:56pm On Nov 30, 2018
ExAngel007:
An awry event took place in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State involving a young lady named Blessing who suddenly lost her sanity after being dropped by some suspected internet
fraudsters driving a Lexus SUV along the Ogun-Lagos State expressway.

As she danced in public, speaking incoherently and playing around in a stinking gutter, many assumed that she was jinxed by ritualists.

This sounded believable due to the spate of ritual killings across Nigeria with youths desperate for quick money fingered in the criminality.

But people who have had personal ecounters with Blessing and her family members believe the media reports are false. They took to their social media accounts to reveal that the 300 level student of the department of Political Science, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba in Ondo State who was on her way to Lagos State has been battling with mental crisis.

A graduate of her school explained that she must have had an attack while being conveyed to Lagos by the guys who might have panicked and decided to drop her on the road and zoom off to avoid further complications.

Further accounts on social media also corroborated the reports of her on and off incidents of mental imbalance which is also troubling her brother.

They explained that her family has sort orthodox treatment as well as spiritual intervention but all to no avail. The state of Blessing still remains unknown but she has been taken off
the street by Good Samaritans.

Can Atiku count on Egwu, Ekweremadu, Umahi and co to fight this battle for him? Or will they betray him finally?

Is it still because of Peter Obi? At least Obiano has told them where he stands on that so no arguments about that one cheesy

I personally, want a a Pro-restructuring Government in power. I know its difficult to achieve restructuring but we could move a milestone in that direction with a Pro-restructuring in place. I don't give a damn those positions/appointment. What does that even add to me? APC Government has not done well so far and supporting them on the basis of the VP being from my region is unreasonable but the guys (Igbos) on the other divide are guilty of this with the earlier agitation that they are going to vote for APC if PDD fails to allocate the VP slot to them.......that also is unreasonable (whatever what the grievance is). Why will you vote a Government that has obviously failed just because you were denied a certain position.

We must rise above ethnic bigot-ism and embrace competency over clannishness and nepotism.

Also, I don't have any problem having an Igbo as the VP; after all Peter Obi is a very credible candidate who competency is not in double. Secondly, it is reasonable and also in the Spirit of fairness to at least have an Igbo emerge as a VP in the next Government......these guys have really been sidelined and I expect all Nigerians of goodwill to support this stance. But I will frown at a situation the Igbos will take this as a victory over the Yorubas and worse is the impression being expressed Gbenga Daniel. This makes the Yorubas look conquered and would rather pitch them against PDD (who to me has a better agenda than the failed APC). Its more of the battle of ego rather than voting the right candidature with the best manifestos. Gbenga Daniel should please focus more on the manifesto of PDP rather than making petty and insulting comments. I rest my case.
