May we recover from the activities of the gullible people in power who take instructions from the IMF, World Bank and Washington.

It is now quite clear that these people don't often agree in their estimations
Yet there are Nigerians in Bloomberg who write like them to continuously write down Nigeria's indices

But we must also wake up to become a self-determined nation that goes for what it wants

It is not that we do not have enough to care for every Nigerian. Money is a promissory note. Within Intra-Africa trade we can buy and sell what we produce at reasonable price.

But outside our African market influence, we must pay their dictated price at what IMF say our currency is worth so that they can buy us cheap.

Actually, I think Nigerians are more productive today that when we traded our currency one to one.

The difference: liberal market to buy whatever you want in the world market without selling whatever we want at our dictated or bargain price in the world market.

Every administrator from politicians to the lowest clerk watch intensely for allocations to drop. Once it drops, the catcher take a lion share while others fight for crumbs.

Boy, were we wrong! Good motives turned to parochial interest. Instead of people dying for the good of the country, soldiers destroyed long held patriotic feelings for Nigeria, other African countries; and turned it into ethnic chauvinism. The morning after, as the night broke into daylight, over several days, we came to realize these people were not ready to die for Nigeria or Africa but for personal ambition.

Before Kaduna Nzeogwu, Jerry Rawlings, Steve Biko, Sakura, and lately Ibrahim Taotra, now trending in Africa; we had both the military and civilians out of patriotism willing to die for Africa. Akufo, Acheampong & co. had to face the military tribunal for overthrowing Nkrumah, Africa’s formidable Activist colonialists feared most because he knew them inside out. Jerry Rawlings of Ghana overthrew Akufo and Acheampong & co. as a team that overthrew respected African hero, Kwame Nkruma.

Now militricians are an upper class. Unfortunately, most of the African military proved to be worse than the civilians they overthrew. Little did we realize that those who were supposed to clean up corruption in high places would regale in a worse form of corruption themselves. Whatever became the consequences of Nzeogwu Military take-over, it was initially welcomed as a relief to indifferent civilian rule by cabals that retain Power in the hands of groups that unite to loot the country but divide and rule the masses.

The celebrations, jeering and humiliation of the fallen after Nzeogwu coup in Nigeria, created a glowing anger that finally burst into mutiny and counter-coup. Until university graduates started joining the Army for the sole purpose of overthrowing civilian governments, the pride of being in military uniform was low. You could not find anyone from a good home going into the Armed Forces, except a few radical university graduates.

Two cases exemplified the trust Nigerians placed on the military and how it fell apart. We believed Nzeogwu was betrayed. The Nzegwu coup was initially welcomed. Just as we trusted Buhari's "primordial" aversion for corruption. Buhari turned out to be far from being a saint after all. He turned out to be "fantastically" corrupt without Idiagbon behind him! Buhari went as far as absolving Abacha that invaded the Central Bank and looted foreign currencies.

It was this same Buhari, in fairness to him that refused to Devalue naira. Since no country without finished goods to export has ever recovered from its currency Devaluation. Reliance on foreign investment without local training and specified time for handing over to locals, are misplaced. Its benefits are highly exaggerated. Turned into a lifetime exploitation. Unfortunately, African countries become dependent at the expense and detriment of reliable Inter-African Trade cooperation.

WHICH COUNTRY WILL YOU DIE FOR: HOW AFRICAN ARMY JOINED UPPER CLASS

The Idumota Lagos Commemoration and Remembrance of soldiers that sacrificed their lives for the world and Peace Keeping changed when soldiers tasted political power and realized they could be Head of States as well, not just head of the Army. It is one thing to risk lives in a coup to punish those who overthrew African Independent Activists like world revered and feared patriots Nkrumah or Lumumba but another to save Babangida and accept Structural Adjustment.

We used to say we could die for our country during colonial rule to liberate ourselves. History still teaches Slave Trade and about the days most Africans were willing to die to free their countries. Slave trade became dangerous not only out of the goodness of Abolutionists’ hearts but also danger of African Revolts on the land and high sea. Many of us remember the patriotic fever and love of the country. Ready to die for Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and others.

Many African soldiers died in the fight for Freedom during Slavery, World War I & II. When they came back from Europe after the World Wars fighting for Freedom, they were still colonized at home. African Americans and Europeans were still discriminated against. Nigerian soldiers later became known as one of the best International Peace keeping forces, and so recognized worldwide. But why stop at being the king maker of politicians when they could be in charge?

As Africans we are our brothers’ keepers. Just as we say: it takes a village to raise a child. One American President, John F. Kennedy once challenged his people to ask what they can do for their country, not what their country can do for them. When and how did we lose our dedication to African Youths to the point of paying a fortune to risk death crossing the sea and the desert?

When the Military started taking over from civilian rulers, we thought they were saviors coming to our rescue after the civilian Governments lost their heads. The Military coups were cheered in many African countries because the tolerance for abnormal or what we saw as strange behavior in high places, especially in Government was repulsive. Therefore, military discipline and quick clean up without resorting to the long process afforded by rule of law became attractive.

There is no doubt that Okonjo-Iweala was not the only contributor, only one of many. But each of them had the support and backing of the President to carry out their assigned tasks that propelled the Administration forward. Nigeria was able to negotiate and clear the Paris Loan Club. Though some Professors including Soludo thought Nigeria could have gotten a better deal. The advantage of clearing that Loan, Okonjo stated then, was to use the interest payments otherwise, especially for more pressing needs.

Afterall, it is during the same OBJ Administration era that Nuhu Ribadu challenged anyone to name any other administration that created a body like EFCC given a free hand to go after any looter, including OBJ friends: Afolabi and Chief of Police Tafa Balogun to name a couple. Even the son of the former President Babangida was ordered to state the source of his wealth for his stake in Globalcom. EFCC brought a sense of discipline that has since disappeared.

El Rufai, the Administrator of Abuja under Obasanjo made his mark. He regularized and cleaned up Abuja where high ranking politicians obtained land and built houses anywhere, anyhow on unallocated plots. El Rufai got away with his draconian cleanup because he had the back of Obasanjo like the others.

By the time Professor Soludo took the reign as Governor of the Central Bank, the financial players within the Central Bank became cautious about the reputation of who was backing Soludo. Nobody dared the truckload of foreign monies moving out like we witnessed during the Military regime of Abacha or disappearance of a chunk in Foreign Reserve within 6 months of Abubakar reign. Recently, we realized that Emefiele, as Central Bank Governor, printed money for himself and his cronies.

African Moral Value remains the moral character needed to curb the culture of corruption that has plagued our sense of responsibilities as our brothers’ keepers. We cannot rest on the fighting spirit of those saviors that made Slavery dangerous and unprofitable on the sea and land. This is the reason Africans use any small fortune they acquire to travel by airplane to places their forefathers fought to escape.

OBASANJO COMPARED TO JONATHAN’s REIGN SHOWED CULTURE OF CORRUPTION COULD BE TAMED

Many of us must sincerely apologize to Okonjo Iweala for not discerning the different contributions she made to President Obasanjo and Jonathan's Government. As much as we lecture about political economy, we must also point out the difference therein. While Okonjo Iweala painfully stressed the delicate balance she found herself in OBJ Government compared to that of Jonathan, we did not get it. Sometimes, we are so blinded by narrow ethnic bias.

Okonjo Iweala, in one of her lectures, opened up the difficulties she faced serving Nigeria as Finance Minister in Obasanjo and Jonathan's Governments. Many of us with a human heart and brain would empathize. Indeed, most of us could not have survived both governments. Okonjo's ordeal and personal threat pointed to one hell of a strong lady under the surface with a little bit of luck she needed, but did not wait or rely on.

Mrs Okonjo-Iweala was proud of her accomplishments in the President Obasanjo Government mainly because he was a strong leader on a mission to change Nigeria. Once she had the backing of OBJ, very few of her colleagues in the Cabinet or the Administration posed obstacles or dared challenge her. Most Nigerians, despite their reservation about OBJ dictatorial tendency in a civilian regime, still consider him the most successful uptodate.

Compared to what we have witnessed after Obasanjo, there was sanity in Nigeria during Obasanjo Presidency! This is what is wrong with most African countries because of the Culture of Corruption that must be brought to a minimum before we can experience profound change. Unfortunately, deterrent may not be enough for a culture so deep rooted and desperate to keep on trying or die!

Okonjo-Iweala experienced this culture of Corruption under the President Jonathan Administration where she could not pursue her mission as she did under Obasanjo. The colleagues she had in the Cabinet were implementing their dubious missions regardless of President Jonathan approval. It must be noted that she was like the Deputy President to Jonathan, a higher position than she had in the Obasanjo Administration. It was not enough!

Some, as godfathers, surround themselves with close family members and cronies for succession. It is very difficult to emulate elders that care more about themselves perpetrating economic and/or political power almost forever rather than preparing for the future of the next generations. It gets worse when they spend more for the skill training of their families in foreign countries, with resources that could have provided much to the majority of families at home.

There is this cultural shock when African children born outside the Continent tell their parents what to do as they lose control outside Africa. No matter where in the world, children express their opinions more from adolescence. Their tantrums are easier to culture as a toddler than as older kids. What many of the elders took as corrections that propel them into successful endeavors are called abuse by the new generation today.

Nowhere are these enablers more conspicuous than comparing Nigerian currency in the 1980s until they got it closer to Zimbabwe dollars today. It is not by accident or by Western conspiracy against Zimbabwe alone, there are internal enemies that postulated that Nigeria is rich enough to open a liberal Central Bank (which no country in the world ever did) and compete in the Open Market. Our sweet teeth for foreign products exploded at the expense of local finished products.

What were these prodigal children thinking? A country that has no finished product to export embraced the notion that imports are no problem but admitted that lack of export is the problem. You would think exports that were not possible in decades, could be easily corrected by Structural Adjustment with the help of gullible naive “natives”. We accepted Structural Adjustment enticement from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

See, if you want to see drama o! Find out who is in control when it comes to who to invite to weddings between children and parents. Parents that pay for their children’s weddings in Africa dictate most of the terms. Mind you, children outside Africa arrange and pay for most of their expenses. African parents cannot afford the taste of sumptuous weddings their children arrange unless they are very wealthy in foreign currency. Yet, parents want input.

Local Nigerians, especially those in big cities will spend their last million on foreign imports while those outside promote locally made products in Nigeria.

Indeed many Nigerians outside are capitalizing on locally made products for business survival.

It boils down to the inferiority complex of being a world or global citizen where you can hardly see African contributions.

Local boy or products without respect depress our economy as selfish agents promote imports of junk (as not the problem).

Nigerians have turned into a case study of how money could turn a rich country into abject poverty. The worship of money and greed for more without knowing what to do with it has made Nigerians the laughingstock of fellow Africans. Yet, we glorify ourselves as the most educated, richest and successful Blacks in foreign land.

It is actually authenticated and used against other Blacks by those who never wished Africa well in the first place. What they hide in the success of Nigerians abroad is that to live the same “comfortable” life their colleagues enjoy; they have two or three jobs with little time left for anything else. Even students have full time jobs. Those who die in the struggle, lose their wives and children to the system are unknown and forgotten.

Yoruba must be guided by their Value System from birth like ORIKI. According to the Yoruba values system: The first and most important is Wisdom, understanding and knowledge that grows with age and maturity, in normal circumstances. Known as Lakaye, Ogbon and Oye. This is the reason elders are respected as keepers of their cultural values. The vast knowledge found in IFA are specialities of different subjects from Philosophy, Religion, Mathematics, Astrology, Geography etc., collaborated by vast historiography of the Elders.
