This people must be lieing , the government and its supporters said the economy is doing well, and even the GDP increasing at a fast pace
This sector was part of the calculation that gave the positive GPD ,they want to tarnish the image of the government
The income of the people has increased since the increament in minimum wage, which has lead to improvement in purchasing power, how come, they are having declined sales
I think the government should send EFCC after them

You're hooked and this is unhealthy for you. Relationships like this don't work because the energy is unevenly matched and you would crowd her too quickly.

You had better cut off communication and deliver yourself. When it's time, you would waste your money on this adventure and won't even see her underwear because she won't even come to your house. grin

Anyways, it would be a good lesson for you so continue.

Putindbutt:
Farmers are suffering yet they're smiling to the bank, how about the funds they received from Govt?. You think Govt is providing them funds, fertilizers, tractors, seedlings so that they can take undue advantage of Nigerians by hiking prices unnecessarily?.
Funds. Do you believe those political funds reach the grassroots? Go and ask why Afex is struggling with GTBank or why a lot of the organisations through which these loans are disbursed are having a hard time making payments.

Those who majorly supply the market are doing it out of pocket and that's why they would hike prices to recoup their investments.
AgricultureRe: How Import Waivers Are Crippling Local Rice Mills by laivwire(m): 3:05pm On May 08, 2025
Almunjid:
The Nigerian government acknowledges that a country relying on imports for products they can produce locally has failed significantly. However, before opening the borders, the government had taken measures to empower farmers and lower farming costs. Unfortunately, Nigeria faces multiple challenges, including individuals exploiting and exhibiting heartlessness towards one another.

Despite the government's interventions, some farmers hoard their crops, and hoarders also buy farm produce like rice to store in warehouses, creating artificial scarcity to manipulate market prices. This practice adversely affects the average citizen, forcing the government to resort to opening borders. Imported rice usually reaches the market, providing some relief from the inflated prices. When the government opened the borders, rice became more affordable, leaving farmers and hoarders with surplus stock in their warehouses. As a result, some were compelled to sell their rice at a loss due to spoilage.

These farmers and hoarders are the ones expressing their frustration and condemning the government's decision to open borders and grant waivers for imported rice. This is due to the losses they incurred and their inability to continue exploiting citizens under the guise of rice farming. The government's policy has effectively disrupted their schemes, resulting in a more competitive market and affordable prices for the average Nigerian.

In this scenario, would it be preferable for Nigerians to continue suffering from the greed of farmers and hoarders, or should the consequences of such selfish actions be borne by those who perpetuate them?

Salam!
If the government is truly subsiding farmers then the same govt has the right to demand the supply of products to the market. Just like every other business, commodity trading is a thing.

Is it farmers suffering from the harsh economy that would have enough cash to starve themselves without selling their grains while waiting for prices to increase?

Whatever happened to Government mop up during harvest season and storage in silos across the country?
AgricultureRe: How Import Waivers Are Crippling Local Rice Mills by laivwire(m): 2:57pm On May 08, 2025
Buhari closed the borders and food prices shot up. Rice mountains were erected in Abuja to prove that we were indeed sustainable. Lots of farmers were happy and people ran to invest in grains stocking and farming enterprises predicting a handsome reward based on current circumstances.

Half way into the planting season in 2024, biting prices saw Tinubu giving a 6 month waiver for importation to reduce food prices while the season goes on.

Now we're in May this year and the gates are still wide open. Farmers who bought expensive input and high price grains for storage are counting losses. Talk of inconsistencies and too much make belief

Nigeria will humble you.
PoliticsRe: Ndume Hails Tinubu’s Ban On Foreign Goods by laivwire(m):
Nigerians sufferings have just been amplified. The poor state of the economy is not as a result of people wanting to import, it is because the country does not provide a suitable environment.

When you have to pay for every infrastructure that should otherwise be provided cheap because you pay taxes, how would you thrive?
Power is expensive and epileptic. Roads are terrible, haulage costs are high and lack of local tech would make you import essentials at unfavourable exchange rates. Over hundred agencies would be chasing you around for dues, looking to fleece you because you dared open shop. From Local Govt to nafdac, signage, etc. Even agbero would stop your driver on the road to collect their share or they disrupt your business.

There's a solid reason why the only rich people you see around are only into commerce. No one dares go into manafacturing except you are backed by foreign cash. For local entrepreneurs, you have to do fund raising from foreign investors to thrive because BOI would take years to approve a loan that won't even pay your employees salary for 3 months.

Better countries pay their farmers subsidies, give tax relief when you contribute to the society, offer free top tier training to the unemployed, and offer multiple grant competitions to start ups. You have constant energy, internet and asphalt eveerywhere even in the hinterland so things are highly predictable and manageble. and if you overpay taxes, you get refunded.

We can't produce shyt and these goods would be smuggled at much higher prices to meet demand. enjoy your APC govt.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: I Got A Federal Appointment, Resigned From My Job... And Now I'm Hanging by laivwire(m): 2:53pm On May 02, 2025
I believe you're aggressively searching for another job because the level of corruption and unpredictability in Nigerian public institutions can never be fathomed in its entirety.

Get another job and if they call you fine, if not, you'd be okay.

To apply pressure, team up with other aggrieved applicants and file a petition to the right quarters in the institution. That's if and only if your recruitment process was legit.
Car TalkRe: Why Is The Car Door Always Locked When There Is An Accident by laivwire(m): 5:51pm On Apr 29, 2025
Cars are actually designed to unlock all doors , cut off fuel supply and turn on the hazard lights in the event of crash. More recent models even initiate emergency calls.

Doors not opening is a result of the bent door frames. If you're conscious, simply wind down and climb out. The windows are usually smashed in the event of a crash so there's no need using a headrest to smash windows.

I don't know how my cousin did it, but his SS daughter has stopped falling sick after he was introduced to one traditional and herbal remedy for his daughter.
If she's truly healed. Glory to God.

We tried all possible options as well and there was a particular herbal medicine one man from Ilorin used to supply us back then which worked quite well in stopping the frequent crisis. We lost contact with him at some point.

We also tried other means too including decompresssion surgery. We were saving for a marrow transplant when he died. My close cousin actually had a marrow transplant (very horrible scars) but he died less than a year later even with the herbs, treatment in the Uk etc Just a random crisis like any other and all the painkillers could not stop the pain until he gave up on the bed right there.

I lost my only sibling to this sickness after 31 years of struggles right from childhood. He's the one who made us know all the general hospitals in every state we lived.

The sickness held him down a lot and tortured him and us in extension for years. (Even after his departure). Time, money, effort, grief etc

To singles yet to marry, please be wise.

USFOCUS:
A loan company is offering me 3m to pay back 6m in 18month. Should I take it a buy a car for uber in ibadan ?
Unhealthy deal. Please don't entrap yourself.

If you must, reduce the principal and look for another business.

With #1.5m channelled into semi-intensive mixed farming. Poultry (egg production), Goats, Vegetable (pepper, tomato), cereal production (maize, rice, soybean, cowpea), farm services (like spraying services, sale of agri input) and some commodity trading carried out at full time activity month on month, you can meet up with the payment of #3m while still feeding yourself within that time frame. You would probably need to get another loan after repayment to sustain the business but then you would have better leverage to negotiate.

There are other business ideas but this is what I would do if I am in a similar situation as its my field of expertise.

My goodness shocked

See people bickering about body weight when lifetime worth 50 years of solid memories and impact has just been terminated. Insensitive.

I've known Big Bolaji sice about 2008 and he has always been big. Big people also live long and as a matter of fact look more fit in old age than skinny people but that's beside the point.

May his soul rest in peace and may the Holy Spirit comfort the family in these trying times.

Just look at how Speed is waddling. He also wore a singlet that his opponent could grapple and use to drag him. The singlet would also get wet with sweat thereby getting heavier, sticky, causing him more heat in an already heated arena.

They should have provided them with some head gear at least. No wonder he didn't last one round.

It was a nice scrap anyway.
FamilyRe: My Dad Wants To Settle Me With 7 Million, I Need Advice. by laivwire(m): 10:41pm On Apr 14, 2025
Good idea but maybe you should start using some of what you've learned to make money already.

A major problem in career development is chasing money on one hand and chasing passion on the other (for example , doing a job just for money while following your passion as a side hustle). Your progress won't be as fast as you desire because your efforts are divided.

But when you are being paid while working in the field you desire. You don't need to worry about how to eke a living and as you work daily, you're improving the very skills you want to develop.

I.T is about your project portfolio and the closer that portfolio can get to what obtains in the professional industry, the better. Start looking for jobs in your desired field even if it's entry level.

and don't make the mistake of throwing all your cash into the business. Start small.

I will love recommendations of where to learn, specifically in Lagos.
For what purpose?
Exams?
Just to speak the language?
To find a job?

These objectives determine how much effort and resources you would have to put into it ranging from self study to hiring a tutor or signing up for French classes (e.g Alliance Française)

I dont't sell cars but please consult Jiji. Thats the easiest source of scoping current market prices. The Rav4 is a good option but I am certain it starts from #7m upwards.
AutosRe: To Those That Bought Their First Car by laivwire(m):
Why would you buy a house first? A house is a luxury purchase because business wise, the liquid cash returns are so low in comparison to the capital invested. Except you are a realtor who sells houses for a living I don't see the validation. You need a stable job or business with steady returns first before making a house purchase.

Get a car first, it opens more opportunities. Get a cheap but reliable Naija used as your first car to learn the ropes if you're not buoyant enough for a toks. You can upgrade as your income grows later. You don't want to have to replace engine or rear light for #1m
FamilyRe: Each Time I Remember This Incident, I Get Traumatized. by laivwire(m): 10:13am On Apr 12, 2025
Sad occurrence. Falling off a moving vehicle onto asphalt is never a good thing.

A friend tried to disembark from a moving lorry once, the mass transit type with an entrance at the rear and didn't know when he hit the ground unconscious.

An uncle also had the unfortunate incidence of a danfo bumper catching his trousers at a bus park at night as people were hustling for a spot in the bus. The bus dragged him for some distance on the highway before the driver's attention was called. By the time the bus stopped, he wasn't only unconscious, his garments were all blood soaked and in shreds. He had wide injuries all over like he had been in a fire accident and required skin grafts. Many of those injuries still remain on his body over 10 years later.

In similar occurrences, a precaution is to jump directly opposite the direction of the moving vehicle, that can reduce the impact of the fall and enable you gain some stability control. Of course this is after trying every possible means to get the driver's attention.

You can always wait for the driver to slow down as well even if he's not coming to a complete stop. Overtaking cars can also see you if they catch up to the vehicle and warn the driver.

No be beans oh. When you come across professional athletes from the other side, you need no one to tell you they are athletes. Many times big, tall and muscular. It is a result of long term training with highly professional equipment (including pfft pfft grin )

Even in boxing, African boxers are comparatively slow in reflexes and movement in comparison to the global athletes we watch on TV.

That we even have events like this is a good effort on its own.
RomanceRe: Masturbation Is Good Don't Let Anyone Decieve You. by laivwire(m): 12:00pm On Apr 09, 2025
Do you realise that masturbation is for men with no game who can't afford to get laid.

When you have access to getting laid whenever you want, you won't even remember the last time you masturbate.

What you need is a job to get you busy and a clean partner to have fire relations with whichever way and whenever you want.

How you get that is up to you however. A good job will largely get your mind off unproductive thoughts like sex and with some cash and a good packaging, you can get clean baddies giving you free home delivery services (not brothels or yeast factories).
