I've been dealing with my Aboki for upward of 2 years now for many dollar transactions only now na pounds, so there's a relationship already going
Even at that I told him to his face during one of our transactions last week that I don't trust him nor do I anybody
One thing I've quickly learnt is to look out for security features e.g. holding the money against the light helps
I did that last week when buying to which he replied 'Tola, you no trust me?' to which I replied yes O!
Twenty and ten pounds have a security silver strip on the note unlike the fifty pound note which have mainly internal features
Also buying in smaller quantities help a lot as buying large amounts help fraudsters better
That apart Abokis that have a shop/office are less likely to scam you
Also the real dudes tend to mark their notes with a small unique sign to that dealer
I learnt the easiest way to spot fakes is be exposed to genuine currency over time repeatedly such that immediately you touch a fake, a red flag goes off
Bottom line is do what works best for you

BTW, how much do you want to take along when leaving?
Your total maintenance money?
Is that safe?
I'm looking at cash of 2000-2500 max when leaving along with my bank card
I read Nigerian Bank issued Mastercards and VisaCards work great in the UK [but do make sure its the top banks here]

I have an Aboki too and have been dealing with him for long.. But it also dollars I haven't bought pounds from him before.. Am going with like 3500 pounds.. The rest will be transfered to me wen I open a bank account.. I have a visa gold card.. Which uni are you going?

It is inside the airport.. It a small room you just ask the security in the departure and they will show you where it is.. They change money reasonably...

The BDC eventually gave me a N256 per pound quote while my Aboki did it for for N257 [Note this Aboki did my 1st transaction at N253 before the scarcity set in]
I would have waited for the rate to drop more but hey I don't want to resume in the dead of winter i.e. January

That's cool...banks in Nigeria don't give good price for foreign currency they sell high to you.. And they will even tell you they don't have so you have to use the black market.. I think I will change at muritala airport.. I can't risk buying fake pounds from Aboki oo... That's why am gonna use a BDC at Muritala.. But visa has to come out first oo

257 still make sense oo... But the last time my brother was travelling we change at BDC at muritala airport and it made lots of sense that's where am using.. No need to rush...officially it is 245 so it wickedness to sell for 260... Every kobo counts now oo

Yeah boss.make the transaction 18th sept and tell them you need it to refect in your statement of acc.. And make sure you get a reference letter from the bank..

JideVince: Thanks for your help, that's exactly what I was planning to do but he was trying to point out that some banks would not include that day's transaction on the statement. Please, do you know for sure if GTBank would include that day's transaction? I.e if I withdraw/Deposit a certain amount on 19th Sept and print the statement immediately would the transaction reflect? Thanks

What I did was that I deposited some cash and told them the purpose of the account so they included the last transaction and I got the statement the next day.. So make sure they know you want to use it to apply.. They know how to go about it.. Which includes giving you a reference letter.. This will be a back up for the statement..

And mind u, I have never been a fan or supporter of guys planning to get married without at least being financially stable to take good care of the unborn kids to come. It is necessary u attain a comfortable state b4 going into marriage.

The best way to do this is to make a transaction the day you wanna collect your statement cos UKBA will count your 28days up from the last transaction.. You can pay a little amount that day and collect the statement...

Abi oo.. If person no prepare na strong suffering oo.. No one will borrow you money talkless of borrowing you money for schooll fees so don't start what you can't finish..

That money is just to pay rent,feed and do normal things.. You will be comfortable but forget say you wan go work raise school fees.. It will affect your studies... So always prepare well

I understand you guys but I think one should atleast add like 100 pounds to that maintenance fees cos no matter how high pounds becomes one will be in a safe side.. That's what I did.. Cos I don't want any excuse.. Cos UK get wahala oo.. God help us all.

Most Nigerians travel to Uk and other countries believing they want to go and make money but the truth now is that before you can start making that money you may suffer for a long time so it always good to prepare money to spend for atleast four months cos no one will help you there.. Uk is even worst they want you to come back after your studies nothing post study visa again... So immediately you enter that's thinking of how to come back after your studies or how to stay which may not be easy... Seek advice on how to stay but pls no dubious means

Aristoqrat: If you submitted what was stated in your CAS, then you have nothing to worry about. Applying in Ikeja is the same with other centers -processing will take at least 15 working days, more or less.

Thanks everyone am relieved but we all know is not easy to get the fear off ones mind.. The white lady that interviewed me didn't ask more than 4 questions and she was smiling all through it think that's a good sign.. Pls share your interview experience I beg

In my CAS what was written was that Liverpool Hope University as assessed the students english and it equivalent to Uk CER B2 or more... I wasn't told to write any test they assessed my english with my transcript and letter from the hod which I included in my visa application... I applied ikeja don't know how fast it is..

I need help cos am dying of hypertention since I applied for my tier 4 uk visa on 19th August...
My questions goes thus
(1). My statement of result is laminated but my transcript isn't.
(2). My mom is my sponsor so she gave me a statement to the tune of 20,106 usd.. I attached a oanda covertion print out to my application. But I didn't add tax clearance cos she is a nurse.
(3) My english was assessed with a letter I got from my HOD in school this I also attached to my visa application
Pls am scared I don't know why..
