i think it's the other way round. married men pursue the single women. I don't know how but they tend to be more aggressive in their approach.

i'm sure single women prefer single men too. but  if they're the desperate type, they will go with the married man who probably is more willing to spend money or please them. or sometimes they just happen to "fall in love" with the married man. the word "love" is used to cover up many transgressions nowadays. "i fell in love""love is blind" blah blah. lol

Why do you Nigerians want the Igbos to remain in Nigeria?

It's your choice (as an ethnic group) to decide whether to leave or not. as far as i'm concerned, you guys are not gone (yet) so you are still part of Nigeria and therefore should be supportive of the country as we are still a nation and divided we fall.
When you decide to leave and are no longer part of naija, then I really could care less!!! that's your problem. even though i feel your country will become a sister country to naija.

better to have two individual strong countries than one perpetually weak mess. now we have the weak mess and that's what i'm against. when countrymen dislike/mistrust each other.

The kids in the Crouch clan of Connecticut have made theirs a history-making family.

The 18-year-old black quadruplets have all been accepted into Yale University simultaneously for the class of 2014. And today, Ray, Kenny, Carol and Martina Crouch are making headlines across the country.

“The Crouches’ perfect batting average represents a first for Yale — the first time in anyone’s memory that it has offered admission to quadruplets. It is also, of course, no small milestone for the siblings, who were born more than two months premature,” The New York Times reported.

“But whether any one of them, let alone all four, winds up at Yale remains an open question. Under Yale’s early-admission program, accepted applicants can apply to other colleges and need not make up their minds until May 1. For one thing, money is still an issue. With a father who works for the State of Connecticut as a case manager in the Department of Mental Health, and a stay-at-home mother who is studying for her master’s degree in social work, the quadruplets say their decision will be heavily influenced by financial aid,” according to the newspaper.

“We have to be practical,” Kenny Crouch told the Times.

The mother of the quadruplets, Caroline, who is Nigerian-American, told a reporter that she was so excited when she learned about the Yale admissions, that she wrestled her husband to the floor.

"My husband and I are very, very proud to see them and what they have accomplished," she told a local newspaper.

In an e-mail message to the Times, Jeffrey Brenzel, the dean of admissions at Yale, said, “Their applications were terrific, and we simply hope that they will all decide to come!”

The Times said more than 200 readers wrote comments about the Crouch teenagers – and, unfortunately, some racial rhetoric was part of the discussion.

“An overwhelming majority of comments were expressions of congratulations to the Crouch children and their parents,” a Times reporter wrote. “I regret, though, that some of the comments were laced with a racially tinged meanness suggesting that the siblings had only been admitted en masse to Yale because of their skin color. While their mother is black and from Nigeria, their father is white and from Danbury.”

One commenter, identified only as “M Kaplan,” wrote, “I’m sure the four better qualified, higher-scoring students whose places they will take are as thrilled as all the politically correct commenters here.”

But other Times readers were enthusiastic.

“I’m happy and I don’t even know them. I like to say thank you to their parents for a job well done!” wrote one. Posted another: “Bravo , absolutely impressive! Good luck wherever you decide to attend!”

The children's names are Kenny, Martina, Ray and Carol Crouch.

sharrap abegi. it is the likes of you that i dislike on NL. you make it seem as if igbos are some innocent marginalized victims even though they are a majority ethnic group in naija. If u guys r crying like this, what do u want the real marginalized minorities (efik, uhrobo, naija delta peeps etc ) to do?
and besides all ethnic groups talk trash abt each other. stop making it seem as if it's only igbos that are talked abt. even igbos talk a lot about hausas and yorubas.  ALL THE TIME.  we all talk about each other. and i understand that the rubbish should stop.

Being able to rally for our celebrations and holidays, the threat of our children losing their language, dealing with being a double minority, having our traditional foods available, taking care of family at home, intergration, and since most of us are education oriented when we come here, various international student issues like fees and citizenship struggles, maringalization ect


you can find 10000 cultures that face these problems though, but we decided to do something about it i dont want to hear anyone say igbos arn't about nigeria and are too exclusive because out of belwa awolowo and azikiwe, azzikiwe was the least tribalized and the most focused on the whole of nigeria. awolowo was concerned withhis region as was taf. till this day igbo moives are the ones in english, yoruba ones in yoruba, huasa ones in hausa

lol exactly. i don't think any of those problems are unique to igbos.
i mean do what u want. it's ur choice.   i'm talking abt some igbos on nairaland. i know many igbos that are pro- naija.

even as i think more abt it, it seems like a good idea sef. it might actually work n get recognized by the govt.

haha but think abt one thing though. many of the countries on there can't participate in DV lottery, china vietnam etc. so if too many igbos list themselves, I don't think Census will ban igbos only. they will ban all nigerians from dv lottery!!
so the outcome of this ur ideas better be positive. lol 'cause it's going to affect all nigerians. regardless of ur opinions of exclusivity of race n whatnot.

This is hilarious!  People get upset, that we Igbos consider ourselves a race. Race is a social construct, so we are socially constructing an Igbo race. lol

Whenever, the Ndi Igbo are involved, the other groups, mainly the Yoruba get highly upset. What is with these people?  They are like rabid dogs. It seems like the Yoruba are in love with us Igbos. Even when you mention what the Igbos are doing as a group, they get upset. Is it, because they haven't thought of this.

To get a Yoruba upset, just mention, "Biafra" "Ojukwu" and now "Igbo Race," and these people get upset.

lol. I'm yoruba and I got a bit disappointed on reading this topic to be honest.  because I find some igbos on nairaland to be a bit exclusive and not too loyal to the country (nigeria).
just my sentiment or maybe my bias.

if you guys dont like the idea don't do it for your own tribe, if you like it don't envy it, just do it for your own tribe, but what the igbo want to call themselves is up to them. i like the idea. we want to be recognized in the US so that issues unique to us can be brought to the table.
you should be happy for us.

me too. i wanna marry a mixed race guy (asian and white). 



when they see me and my black girl friend hanging out, they get jealous because they see that our friendship is very strong.

some black guys i know act funny when i hang out with my white guy friends as well. they start dropping stuff and bumping into chairs and picking at their nose. so awkward lol  
but it's so common to see a black guy dating a white girl that it seems like the normal thing in my area. I get shocked when i see a black guy dating a black girl  so i stare unconsciously sometimes    

ppl tend to react to something they find uncommon. but white people tend to act more "civilized" aka  "smile at you and then report you to the manager behind your back" whereas black ppl are more open with their emotions and will show u/ tell u like it is.

nigeria is a HUGE country so of course it is expected that our GDP is also large.

but if we calculate GDP per person (the real measure of economic success) then u will see nigeria at the bottom of the list.


u will notice that it is really tiny countries that populate the list in the first post. countries like micronesia and all. but these countries are still richer than naija if u calculate GDP per person.

I used to avoid pink just for this "girlish/childish" stereotype. but now I don't care. i just wear what i like. and pink happens to be one of the colors i like.

Growing up,  I was lucky to have a great role model teach me a thing or two about beauty. Yeah, I love my stretchmarks. I've had them for so long, I'd miss them if they were to disappear. They're almost like birthmarks to me now.

anyways, I loveeeeee your perspective. don't let the haters get to u. if i had stretchmarks, I would try to learn to love them as well.
besides stretchmarks are natural. a lot of women get them when their body grow faster during puberty. even some guys have it esp. tall, muscular guys and that's the truth.  it's the body's way of keeping up with growth. besides most of these men will see their wives develop stomach stretchmarks after pregnancy anyways  what are they going to do then?

if we care too much about our shape, u will start comparing us to serena. there is that other thread where the girl (abekeade) was criticized by the guys for being consious about fitness. according to them, that wasn't feminine for a girl to care about fitness. so i see all these as hypocrisy.
the world will never be satisfied with u so why change for the world? 

On the thanks given day last year this same man make us believe that he gave 10,000 euro as a thanksgiving offering that the year before he gave 5000 and next year he planned to give 20000. And to demonstrate this he sent for the financial secretary to bring his own thanksgiving envelop to the front of the church and it was a big envelop actually wether the said money was there or not we do not know. This strategy is a professional one.

that's why the most genuine offerings are the ones where the benefactors choose to remain anonymous. shows the genuineness of their thanks.

personally, I agree with the poster that said tithe is compulsory but other offerings should be made willingly. if u pay offering because pastor force you to do so and ur heart isn't there, do you think god will bless you? no.

I think you should eventually tell your wife (and she probably already knows it but doesn't want to bring it up).
but before then, try this advice.

take one day out from work (maybe her bday, mother's day, you are just feeling caring, or whatever excuse u want to use). go to the kitchen and make breakfast for her. help her with housework, take her out for lunch or dinner. go shopping with her and buy her a nice dress or something, play music and dance with her etc, play with the kids together. and then at night see if she still isn't in the mood.

of course u can't do this everyday, but try it once and see the result. then come back maybe i can suggest something else.
