What else would you have me do? I do not see what you hope to gain by twisting my words and calling me out when i have offered my unreserved apologysad. You already have your contestant, please campaign for her.

Once again, i am sorry to those who gpt offended. I am not the type that feels too big to admit a mistake. This issue is just an opinion, nothing more. It is my fault that i still FEEL strongly about islamisation in Nigeria. I am just a victim of Nigeria's politics. I have times without number try to balance facts with my feelings and i am glad to say that the moreI learn, the more i realised that I have been mistaken. i am very straigthtforward and that is reason I decided not to lie outrightly by condemning my initial position. This ishow i feel, i know it is wrong and all i can do is to admit that it is wrong although i still feel strongly about it. I think that is a strength on its own.

Thankssmiley

What nonsensé is this?
I do not require you adding smileys winking creepily at me to ur comments.

And I'm not the one you should be apologising to. I saw smellymouth making a point earlier about the same thing and you and ur team, fynestboi alongside swept the thing under the rug like it was nothing.
those are the people whose religion you dragged through the mud.

but I'm glad the guy didn't even make s fuss about it. You can go on with ur faux diplomacy...at least I've got my eyes opened and I'm beginning to see you in a totally different light now.

Who gives a fúck about ur opinion?
Saying I was offended implies I actually cared to begin with.
But let me humor u for a bit.
So you knew very little about the political-cum-religious workings of our country but still went on a hate-filled tirade about it.....angering more than a few people in the process.
You opened this thread over a year ago, lineG before this miss NL thing came along & they say a person's true character is on display when people are not watching.
Tell me,is this ur idea of promoting unity ?
and u'll have me believe ur myopia & intolerance has suddenly been cured by some magic drug?

I don't have to explain myself. But I will say this once, I took time to edit questions that demanded more time before and after posting.

I am sorry if my opinion offended you. It is not meant to be taken as a credible source of information. I admit that I sounded a bit hostile. I hope to change that with more info, education and understanding of Nigeria's politics. Thanks.

MasterBaiter:

I am no Muslim but what I just saw on that thread you so diligently tried to edit is religious bigotry in it's purest form.

And pls,to save urself the shame next time; do not refer to Saraki as a credible source of info in public ever again....everyone knows the man is a snake which already has it's head on the chopping block....the only way to weasel out of his current predicament is to prey,(or at least try to)on the public's sympathy. So maybe you should take a hint from the guy pulling ur strings and shut dafuq up and stop spitting even more messéd up shít.

And to think you even had the nerve to maintain that you weren't wrong. such insolence!

TreasurePhoenix:
Well.. I wouldn't want to thwart the efforts of the organizers of this session but please permit me to say that this whole session is just a HOGWASH.

it looks a bit biased to me
Please take note that I AM NOT IN SUPPORT OF ANY CONTESTANT but please audience permit me to pinpoint some comments.

Fynestboi asked the contestants to rate their knowledge of Nairaland in general.. Refiner said 50% while lanicky said 60%..
To my surprise.. Refiner was asked to state three past winners of Mr Nairaland while lanicky was asked to state the year the organizer of this year's miss nl competition won Mr Nairaland.. This looks biased and already prepared to me..

Sorry fynestboi and friends .but to me, it seems you already prepared lanickys questions and sent it to her and she got ready made answers for them because she was able to articulately respond to your questions within a very short time frame while she struggled to even compose a line in response to questions thrown at her by one of the audience.

To the best of my understanding.. This whole thing looks pretty planned.. Even the questions u threw to some of the other contestants didn't really Mair complete sense so how did u expect them to answer accordingly.

Well this is my own opinion and I feel this whole process just to bring your PREFERRED CANDIDATE to more limelight doesn't make any sense.. Ban me if you want.. I have said my piece and I stand for the truth.

See the attachment below . Can u explain that question fynestboi

1) Like I have said earlier..I'm cool, positive, intelligent and most important beautiful in my own way. I have got what it takes to be Niss Nairaland. I have a resilient spirit. Despite all the jabs thrown at me...I stay focus on my goal.

2) I don't understand the need to advocate for gender equality in my present society. Admittedly, it would be good for societies in Nigeria where women are largely marginalised. We have laws that already deal with issues that are highly discriminatory. I don't think I lack anything or have obstacles that would hinder me for fulfilling my dreams as a woman. I believe this is quite true for most women around me.

3) I would make sure I pay workers salary in time. And I will fix our electricity problem, encourage local production and heavily invest in social amenities, and STEM courses.

1) I think both gender are intelligent in their own way. Every man created by God is unique in their own special way. Individuals should be judged by what they bring to the table.

2) Well, as the bible teaches us (to Christians) it is totally against the will of God. Women were created to satisfy men. My bible teaches me that it is Adam and Eve and my society also tells me that a family is created by a female and a male. So in my own opinion it is unreasonable but then people have the right to choose their own paths.

3) I am not a soccer fan and I never was sportive. I don't follow it but I will be willingly to endure it if have to.

Dear alphadex, I wasn't totally wrong in stating that APC wanted to islamize Nigeria, though I was wrong in the choice of word I used and in retrospection, would have worded my opinion better. During the period I created that thread, It was widely reported that APC was going for or wanted to go for a Muslim-Muslim ticket with Buhari and Tinubu coming out as the President and Vice President candidates. And judging from the delicate nature of Nigerian religious and tribal setup, including the ethno-religious tension which was high at that time, you'd agree with me that it was a recipe for disaster. And even a hardcore APC member in the guise of our Senate President, Bukola Sariki, confirmed our suspicions, and even went further to attribute it to the reason he's being persecuted for rejecting a Muslim-Muslim candiature for APC. If one of the prominent APC members and a public figure like Bukola Sariki can condemn such an idea even as a Muslim, you wouldn't blame any Nigerian kicking against it, which was what I did. But be that as it maybe, I was wrong in my choice of word and could have stated it in a more clearer perspective. For that, I offer you and everyone who might have felt embittered by my then-actions, an unreserved apology.

1)I can't judge cos I'm not a Muslim. In general view....even Christians are not complete. People take their religion far beyond what they are thought. Discrimination is common among people of different religion. They do think their religion is the best of all. Therefore: anybody or group of people either Muslims or Christians who discriminate others are not complete.

2) I don't think so. Nigeria's problem is not religion. When out leaders argue on issues that relate to the welfare of the nation and corrupt malpractices they don't mention religion.

3) Nigeria is a very traditional country. Most people will find it abhorrent Although I am a non-judgmental person, I don't think prostitution is morally right and in reality people do it and people readily patronise them. I think it should be legalised when the society is ready.

4) I think social media bill should be restricted to unregistered journalists like bloggers and popular people who use it to defame people, assassinate characters, commit crimes and disgrace people. We should not allow them to stifle our voices and pens without a good reason.

1. If you had the opportunity to become something other than a human being for just a day, what would you become ?

1) I will like to be a dream. I will like to be able to show people the truth through dreams so that they can make better decisions and see the consequences of actions and choices. I will be a dream with a purpose, a purpose to show vision.

2)I will advise ladies to get married whenever they are ready. But they have to understand that men prefer younger women. This should not mean women should rush into marriage. Marriage should be about love, unity, affection, desires and respect. So women should take their time to make great decision while striving to be the best they can.

3) My first words would be 'it wasn't your fault' but it is up to you to help justice to make the person pay and also to prevent him or her from doing it to other people.I will ask the person to go to the hospital to get a swab, then report to it the police. I will also ask the person to visit an NGO for help and support to go through this. I will let him or her know that they need help from those that care about them.

4) I think the essence of Miss Nairaland is to inspire ladies to build self esteem, to withstand criticisms and to promote the spirit of sportsmanship. it would help Niaraland by drawing traffic which would inspire people to learn to break boundaries. It also help people especially the contestants and campaign team to get to know one another outside the platform, to work together to promote a single goal which brings about the spirit of unity.

QUESTION 1 (TWO IN ONE wink

1.Feminism is on the rise. Do you think feminism should be given more attention in the society?

2. Is Brilliance really Intelligence? If yes how, if no why?

Lanicky

Refin.er
Feminism is about women. I am a humanist. I believe in the ideology that all humans are created equally and hence should be given equal opportunities to reach greater heights. In my society, women already have the rights and opportunities to follow their dreams and spread their wings. Although, the same cannot be said of some societies in Nigeria and other developing countries. Like in Iraq where women are not totally free to express their feelings or go to school.
I believe those societies need to be educated on the importance of humanism instead of feminism. A focused approach to gender issues such as the feminist movement can do more harm than good. Already, we are seeing the endless bitter arguments in Nairaland and other forums. Furthermore, there are laws in developed countries like the US, that greatly discriminate against men although they appear and are in fact gender neutral in theory.

Question 2)

Brilliance and intelligence are not the same.Intelligence is a general ability that shows knowledge and understanding while brilliance is excellence. You can be intelligent but not brilliant If you cannot apply your knowledge and understanding to create an excellent impression or result. You need intelligence to be brilliant, But you do not need brilliance to be intelligent. smiley

lanicky

I do not think I am better than my fellow contestants neither do I think I am more beautiful than them. As a matter of fact we are all equal in the presence of God so who am I to declare myself superior.

It is a contest and what's required of us(the contestants) is working hard in the aspect of the photo-shooting, mental aspect, Q & A etc in outsmarting ourselves. The beautiful people of Nairaland would be the judges in determining not who is more beautiful or who is more intelligent but who has succeeded in creating an ever-lasting impression. I believe we are all beautiful and intelligent and we have different strengths and weaknesses. However I strongly believe that I have what it takes to create an impression that shows who I really am and why I deserve to be Miss Nairaland. Thanks smiley

Nice! Quickly create a COVER LETTER on why you deserves to be crown MISS NAIRALAND
Well, to be crowned MISS NAIRALAND beauty and intelligence are of utmost importance and I believe I was marvellously made by God and I am beautiful in every sense. I know this because I feel confident in myself and those around me do not fail to mention it.

Aside from that I believe myself to be intelligent, self-conscious and friendly. All of which are characteristics a Miss Nairaland should have. She must be able to reply comments wittily, act properly, postively and in accordance with Nairaland rules and so be able to relate with every person she comes in contact with on Nairaland as amicably and as diplomatic as possible. I have all these attributes and so I think that is why I deserve to be crowned Miss Nairaland.

I also participated in the 2014 edition but couldn't make it to the finals. I have learned from my mistakes, I do not give up in my quest and for these reasons, I believe this is why I deserve to be Miss Nairaland 2016. Thanks smiley
