Thanks for your observation and clear analysis

It really takes a community to raise a CHILD

God bless you sir

iceberg54:

Good job. All your answers are correct. However, rule 2 does not apply to question 24.

21-17=4

Here is my rule and it works for every question:

Sample 1: 12+6-0=18 , 15+6-3=18 , 18+6-6=18

Sample 2: 9+6-0=15 , 12+6-3=15 , 15+6-6=15

So basically subtract 0, 3 and 6 respectively from each column.

20) 8+X-0=17, X=9

21) X+10-0=10, X=0

22) X+30-6=43, X=19

23) X+6-3=13, X=10

24) 14+8-0=X, X=22

thanks so much sir....may God reward you abundantly

I have taking time to analyse the puzzle and I still think I am in order.

[1] Taking a look at the two samples, for the first one there is a relationship between the numbers flowing to the left hand side i.e 12, 6 in the box and 18 in the triangle i.e 12 + 6 = 18. Similarly for the second sample 9 + 6 = 15.

[2] The three numbers at the top increases from left to right incrementally by 3

So to solve question 20: 8 + Y = 17, Y = 9

Question 21 Y + 10 = 10 , Y = 0

for Question 22: 13, 16, ? . So applying rule [2] above the next number is 16+3 = 19
also applying rule [1] 13 + 30 = 43

Question 23 7, ? , 13. The missing number is 7+3 = 10
note applying rule [1] 7 + 6 = 13

Question 24: 14 + 8 = 22

Thanks so much sir.....God bless you abundantly

farady:

The product of the numbers on the 'cliff' = sum of the numbers on the "valley"

Ex 1 : 4 x 3 = 6 + 6

ex 2 : 5 x 4 = 10 + 10

ex 3 : 9 x 2 = 12 + 6

so for the question, 3 x Y = 7 + 11 OR 3Y = 18

Therefore Y = 6
Education / Re: Helping My Son Prepare For Common Entrance...help With These Questions by lanre2009: 5:27pm On Feb 25, 2019
Thanks so much sir.....

farady:

Multiply the numbers on one arrow. Do same for the other arrow and subtract the lower from the higher

example 1: (6 x 3) - (7 x 2) = 4

ex 2 : (8 x 3) - (7 x 4) = 5

ex 3: (4 x 5) - (5 x3) = 5

so for question (5 x Y) - (3 x 4) = 13

(5 x Y) = 13 + 12 = 25

5Y = 25 therefore Y = 5
Education / Re: Helping My Son Prepare For Common Entrance...help With These Questions by lanre2009: 5:25pm On Feb 25, 2019
worked fine too.....thanks

farady:

Using simple logic, the upper figure increases by a multiple of 3 while the lower bar decreases by subtracting 2

or your question 37, subtracting 2 from 7 gives 5
Education / Re: Helping My Son Prepare For Common Entrance...help With These Questions by lanre2009: 5:21pm On Feb 25, 2019
It worked out very well with all the questions......thanks so much

farady:

Add all the numbers to your left hand side and divide the sum by the number in the triangle.

so for the example 1 : 8+4+12 = 24 divided by 3 = 8
example 2 : 6+5+9 = 20 divided by 4 = 5

Ex 3 : 15+10+24 = 49 divided by 7 = 7

so for the question 33 : 4+12+2 = 18 divided by 6 = 3

Thanks so much for this.....the solution worked for all the questions.....God bless you....

I may post more questions whenever we encounter the ones we cant handle.....once again thanks to everybody who has helped out.....cheers!

Daringtohope:

This is not intractable unlike the first one you posted

The number in circle raised to the power of the number above it, then the result is multiplied with the next number
i.e 4 ** 2 = 16, 16 * 3 = 48
1 ** 2 = 1, 1 * 3 = 3
5 ** 1 = 5, 5 * 4 = 20.

It must be a typo error just like we have in the second attachment.

Why not use the latest edition, i believe it ll have less error

We have the newest edition....the person that pointed out the error used an older edition

Sorry, the first is 16/2= 8

8/4= 2

Second is 1+2+3= 6
1+3=4 and 6-4= 2
Apply the same as the second to the third question and u will get that too

One rule is supposed to be used to solve all the samples..

The middle part where you have "2" is "1"

2*4 * 2*3=48

1*1 * 1*3= 3

In the first sample....16 + 8 + 4 = 28.....not 2, this worked out for the other samples as well as the other questions....thanks
