Education / Jonathan Laments Quality Of Nigerian Graduates by Lanspower(m): 9:42am On Nov 22, 2010
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday expressed concern about the poor quality of graduates from the nation‘s tertiary institutions, saying the development had compounded the problems of youth unemployment in the country.

The president, however, assured that the Federal Government was committed to addressing the development, which he described as embarrassing, in order to save the country‘s educational system, the future of its youths and the nation’s industrial growth.

Jonathan stated this in a message delivered on his behalf by the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Mohammed Abubakar, at the convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

He noted that many graduates who managed to secure employment in industries were sometimes considered unfit due to the poor education they acquired from their schools.

The President therefore challenged tertiary institutions in the country to rededicate themselves to producing graduates that would be of comparable standard to other graduates all over the world.

He said, “Government on its part, will address the issue so as to engage gainfully our youth in productive activities”

Jonathan said that apart from the special programme for youth in the Niger Delta area, the Federal Government had opened up avenues for opportunities in several sectors of the economy.

He added that each university in the country had been directed through the National Universities Commission, to package a programme that would entail every student offering compulsory entrepreneurial studies course before they graduate.

The president said the Presidential Committee on Entrepreneurship Education in Nigerian Higher Educational Institutions was set up in order to give the system the deserved backing.

Politics / What Is Good About Nigeria? by Lanspower(m): 10:05pm On Nov 04, 2010
I had a brief argument with some Europeans who hold negatives views about Nigeria. They have never been to Nigeria and they seem to know all about the country. I challenged them that the Western Media only pay attention to bad aspect of Nigerian society but never cover my dear country when there are great landmarks of international standard. They all asked me "what good thing has happened in your country that should attract international interest"? I got short of ideas, Fellow Nairalanders help me out!
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered by Lanspower(m): 11:43am On Aug 30, 2010
dayo1401:

hello nairalanders,
please advise me, my first student visa application was refused due to the fact that, the money i claim to pay to my tier 4 sponsor as part of my accomodation which should have been deducted from my living cost (5,400) wasnt acknowlegde
i submitted a email print out from my school showing i have paid in these fee, but the ECO didnt acknowlegde that receipt and refused me on the ground that i didnt meet the 5,400pounds, even though i have paid in 2,000 and should have accessed my maintainance on 3,400

After reading the refusal notice,, i realised he was right, cos i didnt use an original receipt, but an email print out
now i want to re submit my application, ii ve told my school to send me another CAS, and this time, the money i paid to them as part of accomodation should reflect in the CAS, so the ECO can acknowledge it this time, and judge my case against a maintance of 3,400 instead of 5,400 since i have already paid in 2,000pounds as part of accomodation to my tier 4 sponsor

the problem is this, i intend to use the same statement of account, but i made a withdrawal which affected the balance on the 10th of august,
so i told my bank to give me a statement ending on the 9th of august 2010,

i have deposited back the amount i withdraw and my balance as at today covers the amount i need,
is there any cause to fear anything, cos really, my account balance from 28june, til 9th august, shows that that amount has been held for a period of 28days, and 9th of august, certainly end no more than one more before my application date,
of which, i ve put in back the same amount of money
can the embassy ve any issues, cos the balance on the 10th of august, was low, but it didnt show in my account statement.
mean while, in my first refusal, the same account statement, ended 30 july, and i am re submitting the same acc, just that it has been updated, to august 9th, and it has even before credited,

Normarlly, ur school shouldnt have mandated u to pay as much as 2000 pounds for accomodation prior to ur arrival (my school only asked for 200pounds pre-payment). This is becuase the ECO may not acknowledge any payment made towards accommodation as part of ur maintenance fee. Well, since u dont have much time left, write to ur school to reflect the payment u made on ur new CAS and go aheah with ur application.
As for ur acount if the stament u used the last time is not more than a month now, u can use it else, ask ur bank to end the statement at the point where ur balance was okay. i think the only thing the ECO will enquire about ur acct in ur bank is the genuiness of the account and ur account ballance of that very day they make the enquiries.  I experiencd this when someone stole my ATM and made a withdrawer of 120k in my act the following day i submitted my application. I had to put the 120k back though i was afraid that the money had really goneshort, but I was given my Visa eventually without any hitch. Above all be prayerful and submit the application on time. May God help u.

hi
I got to the the British council to apply for a student visa today and was shocked when i gathered that there have been series of refusals in the past few weeks owing to the UKBA inability to contact some schools for verification. I tried all the phone number of my schl written on top of my trnscript but none was functioning. An agent the advised that applicants should ge letter of attestation from their shcools that will contain the functional contacs, I just put forth this so that ppl should take note and work on this.
Meanwhile, i want tl know if it is advisable or neccessary to make the application thru agent such as PFL coz i met an agent who was talking as if one can not personally make the application. Pls can somebody tell me the danger of applying without an agent. Thanks

We dont and will never need Haruna Lukman, we only need Rabiu Ibrahim for his creativity, infact Amodu should have experimented the worth of this guy by taking him to Angola. This would have instilled confidence in this guy ahead of 2010 world cup. Rabiu is the next Okocha if given the needed chance.

Romance / Help! Help! Help! by Lanspower(m): 10:39pm On Jan 12, 2010
I have a girl I have dated for years but she has been unfaithful to me at all times. I have always found it difficult to challenge her cos she is so smart that I'll never get hold of her. Apart from my personal observation I've had several reports of her waywardness. There was a time she told me she was pregnant and she insisted that she would go for abortion which I refused only for her to tell me one morning that she had a miscarriage. She has officailly introduced me to her parents as her husband to be but I never introduce her due to my suspicion though many of my people know her cos she always comes arround.
Few days ago she called to tell me that her elder sister invited her to her place to spend two days(which I suspected to be a lie). The I started calling her on phone when I thought she should be on her way but she wouldnt pick my calls only for her to text me of her safe arrival and that her battery was flat and I may not get her on phone again. She only calls me at her covinent time and when i call her in the night (frm 8pm) she will not pick and in the morning(7-8am). I finally called her sister who denied ever inviting her but she was shouting at me on phone when I challenged her. I vowed never to call or see her again, I think I have got a tangible reason to leave her and look for a better babe or what do I do? Pls help me out.

Politics / Akala Deserves A Second Term by Lanspower(m): 12:27am On Jan 10, 2010
I think it is high time some1 broke the ginks in Oyo state which has forbidden any serving governor to be re-elected. Only Oyo State now lays claim to the ginks as it has been broken in Ogun by Daniel, Osun by Oyinlola, Kwara by Saraki while the likes of Mimiko and Oni are likely capable of breaking that of Ondo and Ekiti respectivelly. I thinks Mr. white (Akala) should see off the ginks in Oyo come 2011 cos he has really delivered. Up AKALA!!!!

Tragic indeed! Is Africa placed under spell? Why are things going upside down on the continent? This year's Nations Cup should be cancelled as a tribute to the deceased. May God never forgive the culprits. I am so sad!
