PoliticsChange Begins With Me Is My Idea — Lai Mohammed by Laredojohn(op): 4:59am On Oct 07, 2016
LAGOS — MINISTER of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, yesterday, refuted claims by Chief Afe Babalola and Akin Fadeyi, that the Federal Government’s national re-orientation campaign, ‘Change Begin with Me’ was a copyright version of drama skits ‘Not In My Country’ initiative.

Mohammed’s reaction came barely seven days after a senior lawyer at the Afe Babalola Chambers, Adebayo Adenipekun, wrote to the President, alleging that the initiative launched to bring attitudinal change in the country, originated from him and was taken from his project: ‘Not In My Country.’

The minister made the explanation after unveiling the national re-orientation campaign to stakeholders in the private sector in Lagos.

He noted that the idea behind the national re-orientation was designed and completed two months before he met Fadeyi.

Lai Mohammed
He said: “I was nominated in October and the moment I was nominated, I called my team and I told them that the most important thing was to change the attitude of Nigerians. I am happy that the agencies that worked on the idea are here today.

“We started working on the initiative immediately and on 14 October, 2015 when I was confirmed as a minister, I had completed work on the initiative. I made available to the media, incontrovertible evidence that by October 14th, 2015, I had completed work on the initiative.

“On 31 October, 2015, I had completed the radio jingles and television commercials. After we had completed work on the programme, Mr. Akin Fadeyi came to me on December 30th, 2015.

So, how can one accuse me of stealing an idea which was completed by October last year? The person, who claimed that I stole his idea came to me in December. Mr. Akin Fadeyi, Afe Babalola and I will meet in court.”

Earlier, Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Garba Abare, said the initiative was aimed at making citizens major players in the redevelopment of the country.

PoliticsI Know How Tinubu Picked Osinbajo, Says Lagos SSG by Laredojohn(op): 4:45am On Oct 07, 2016
The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Tunji Bello, has described the President Muhammadu Buhari’s authorised biographer,Buhari,

, as a peddler of falsehood, who was on a mission to distort history and put the entire society at a disadvantage.

Bello, in a write-up on Thursday, described as sad and mischievous the claim by Paden that a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, was strongly opposed to the choice of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election.

He said it was surprising and painful that the distortion of history was coming not only at an early stage of the APC’s reign but also within the ruling party’s camp, adding that it would have been understandable if the falsehood had emanated from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Paden, a biographer authorised by Buhari, had on Monday in Abuja publicly presented a book he titled, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria.”

In the book, Paden wrote that contrary to popular belief that Tinubu was the one who chose Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate, Tinubu was actually personally interested in the position and was vehemently opposed to the choice of Osinbajo.

Paden wrote that despite much pressure from Tinubu, Buhari, however, settled for Osinbajo out of three names – Tinubu, Osinbajo and Babatunde Fashola – which were forwarded to Buhari.

But Bello, in his write-up titled, “How Tinubu nominated Osinbajo,” lambasted Paden, saying the professor’s book was “basically based on falsehood that reeks of deliberate misinformation and mischief.”

Bello, who said he was part of the process that led to the emergence of Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate at Tinubu’s instance, wondered where Paden got his story from.

He narrated how on a Saturday morning in mid December 2014, shortly after Buhari was picked as the APC standard bearer, Tinubu arranged a meeting in an unnamed guest house in Lagos, with the then National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande; a former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dele Alake; Osinbajo, an unnamed “renowned pastor,” and Bello himself in attendance.

Bello said at the meeting, Tinubu expressed the concern as to the need to pick a Christian as Buhari’s running mate because it had become unwise for the party to present a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the presidential election.

According to Bello, Akande had said Tinubu was the best candidate suited as Buhari’s  running mate, arguing that the Muslim-Muslim ticket had been fielded in Nigeria before in the case of the late MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe.

Tinubu, according to Bello, however, countered that the dynamics of politics had since changed.

He later nominated Osinbajo, who was readily accepted by the gathering based on his credential as a professor of Law, a Christian, a pastor and in view of his antecedent as a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State and his marriage to a granddaughter of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Bello said, “At the meeting, Asiwaju related to us the urgent need to pick a vice-presidential candidate for the APC. He advised that we should immediately discard the idea of his being nominated for the vice-presidential slot as it was no longer possible to pick a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“This, he reasoned, made sense if indeed we were to be realistic in our bid to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 Presidential election. He reasoned that what was important and imperative at that time was to look for a good Christian nominee to complement President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I remember Baba Akande responded that he would still have preferred that Asiwaju should be the running mate since it had been done before. Baba Akande was obviously referring to the MKO Abiola/ Babagana Kingibe nomination. Asiwaju responded by distinguishing the political equation then from what was before us at that point in time. He foreclosed that scenario as no longer possible. We all voiced our opinions, and at the end of the day, it was resolved that we had to get a Christian candidate.

“It was at this point that Asiwaju reminded us to be fast in coming up with an option because he felt other geographical zones were also jostling for the same position, reiterating the need for the South-West to get it, as a must.

“Asiwaju audaciously told us that left to him, and if he were to pick anyone, he would suggest Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. That Osinbajo, apart from being a brilliant legal luminary, is also a committed progressive and democrat. And having been married to the late Obafemi Awolowo’s granddaughter, it would not be a problem selling him to the old political establishment of the South-West for acceptance.

“He asserted that Alake and myself having served in his cabinet could attest to the great works he did as the Attorney General during his (Asiwaju’) administration as governor of Lagos State. He also reasoned that the second major factor in favour of Osinbajo was the fact that he is a strong Christian and one that he is already a Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

“In the long run, Osinbajo’s nomination was well received by all of us at that meeting and Prof. Osinbajo was asked to start detailing with us, further strategy sessions to which he brought out his laptop and we all commenced a brainstorming session. The rest of the discussion was to strategise on how to contain other likely opponents from the South-West zone before proceeding to Abuja to battle other regions in the coming nomination.”

Bello described as a matter of concern a situation where a renowned intellectual like Paden “would write a book and begins to redefine events in his own way by abashedly evading facts that are bellowing in the public space in order to re-create a world of make-believe for his audience.”

BusinessNaira Appreciates On Parallel Market As Travelex Commences Dollar Sales To Bdcs by Laredojohn(op): 4:35am On Oct 07, 2016
Relief appears to have come the way of the naira, which had been under attack on the parallel market FX in the past few days as the currency strengthened to N473 to the dollar yesterday, from N475 to the dollar, it closed the previous day.

The appreciation of the naira followed the implementation of a new arrangement between the Centrak Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Travelex, a global foreign exchange (forex) dealer.

Also, on the interbank FX market, the spot rate of the naira climbed to N307 to the dollar yesterday, compared to the N311 to the dollar it closed the previous day.

Clearly, the appreciation of the nation’s currency was buoyed by the announcement yesterday that Travelex would today start disbursing $15,000 to each of the 3,000 registered Bureaux De Change (BDC) operators.

President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Aminu Gwadabe, who disclosed this yesterday, said with each of the 3,000 BDCs getting $15,000 each, a total of $45 million will flow into the system.
He lauded the CBN for authorising Travelex to take responsibility of disbursing huge dollar inflows from the diaspora estimated at $21 billion annually to BDCs.

He said the development, which was an improvement from the initially approved $10,000 weekly, would deepen dollar liquidity in the system and strengthen the naira against the dollar.

Gwadabe, said the experience and integrity of Travelex would be key in getting the dollars down to BDCs.
He urged all ABCON members and BDC operators, as a matter of urgency, to visit the apex bank’s branches in their respective zones to update or validate their en-cashers and signatories mandate card for Travelex biometric data capturing.

Gwadabe said the Travelex biometric data capturing would enable the BDCs access the International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs)/Travelex dollars window.

He said remittances had direct positive and significant impact on consumption, investment, and demand in the country as it could be used to address short-run output shocks, and even long run growth. He said remittances tended to be stable and could increase during periods of economic downturns and natural disasters.
He commended the CBN for reaffirming the country’s commitment to building an enabling environment and level-playing field for international money transfer services to Nigeria.

He said by increasing the number of IMTOs from three to 14, the CBN under its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, would set the economy on the path of development in the medium- to long-term and also, restore integrity in the international money transfer business.

Gwadabe also commended the CBN’s efforts to strengthen the BDCs to meet the forex demand at the retail end of the market, so that they would continue to enhance employment generation in the country.
The ABCON boss was optimistic despite the challenges facing the economy, the CBN and BDCs would continue to work together and find sustainable solutions that could help the country wriggle out of the ongoing forex crisis and achieve full economic recovery.

He pledged that ABCON under his leadership would continue to ensure that purchased funds are sold to end users and on eligible transactions only, while weekly returns on purchases from the banks will be rendered to Trade and Exchange Department of the CBN. He further promised to ensure strict compliance to the provisions of the anti-money laundering laws and observance of appropriate KYC principles in the handling of forex transactions.

FamilyRe: My Wife Is Too Proud To Apologise by Laredojohn(m): 4:25am On Oct 07, 2016
The apology thing a lot of people find it quite difficult even when they are at fault their nature isn't to always say am sorry, they rather say the whole thing will pass and go, they atimes also try to cover their faults by bringing up things u must have done to them too which ordinarily they didn't react to as at when it occurred just to shade away the idea of saying they are sorry, anyways... if it's a nature better u just live to accept her for who she is...your acceptance of her imperfection could make her change. I tell everyone I need to tell, three words I never joke with are Please, Am Sorry and thank you, I never find it hard to say pls to anyone irrespective of age, class, gender or personality it has always opened doors...neither do I find it hard to say am sorry even if am not at fault, but for peace to reign I do, and when at fault I also do and thank you is what will always come out of my mouth for the least thing done to me...to the greatest....bro u just accept her for who she is and watch her change with time. All d best

U have rightly said well, it's Natural for couples to lend an helping hand to each other most especially when these things are needed the most, there isn't any rule that says wives must be the cooks in the house, be the maid that does all the house chores etc, but we have shared responsibility in homes removing the fact that when marriage is involved both have become one with or without the wife being the bread winner, husbands are also meant to be supportive in their own ways, not until the wife takes up some manly roles such as payment of the kids school fees, fending for the home mayb because she earns far more than the man. I see no reason if a man's job is more flexible than the woman the man picking up the kids @school, making dinner if need be b4 the wife gets home, off course it's not going to be a daily routine, but once a while just my opinion...we all have right to ours, when there is not division, when you both see yourselves as one..you will never think if one is Doing more because it's still one body.

Now the politicians are free, the civil servant suffers, lesson learnt, never let a political office holder push you to do wrong even if it favors him at the moment, when the chips are down they usually know how to sort themselves and the civil service rules will always hammer the civil servant...the same went on at the budget office, the civil servant, directors and co all suffered while their political boss who refused to study the document well before presentation went scot free...learning a lot for my type of job from the political drama going on, soon the CCT will push the blame to the civil servant who refused to submit the Senate's presidents correct form back then...
