nihilistjnr:I’m not sure you understand my post. Cheers. |
nihilistjnr:Lol. Bros I’m not sure you understand that post you quoted. You are making the same assumption I was trying to correct with that post. Most of the decisions that affect the common man are being taken at the state level. Beam the searchlight on the Governors and you will understand what I am saying. Apga in Enugu do not need APC to deliver dividend of democracy to those who voted them into power. For instance, when FG increases minimum wage to 18,000, till date some states were not paying the 18k minimum wage. Even now, the reason why the new minimum wage hasn’t been implemented is because some of the states are saying they can’t pay 30k minimum wage. These are the Governor that budget billions of Naira as security votes for themselves. What are the states doing to empower their citizens? What are they doing to bring investors to their states? Most roads in Nigeria are states road, why are the state govenors not doing about their states road network? Most land in the country belong to the state governmemt, there are some that are allocated to the FG though. Most times when the FG want to carry out housing project or any kind of project, they have to ask for land from the state government, what are the state governors doing about housing issues? I already talked about Education and Health. One example that negates what you posted is Ebonyi State. Martin Elechi the former Governor of Ebonyi state was a PDP Governor during a PDP led FG in Abuja but there’s no single development he brought to Ebonyi State. Now compare to PDP Dave Umahi administration under a APC led FG and see the kind of transformation the man has brought to Ebonyi. I’m sorry to say but your knowledge about governance in Nigeria is lacking maybe because you have been away for quite some time. It is ridiculous to blame the FG for State Governmemt irresponsibility. |
seankafor:Still one of the failings of government. |
ademmy102:Please free us, let us continue slumbering. Thank You!!! |
nihilistjnr:But they do have Local government chairmen, why are they not demanding accountability from them? FG has recently started paying Local Government allocation into Local Governmemt Account instead of State Government Account, this is the FG giving local government autonomy, so why can’t we start holding our local representative to account on how they are spending our scarce resources? Why is the searchlight on Abuja and not equally on each State Govenors? Most of the things we criticize Abuja for are the responsibilities of the state governmemt. Take for instance Education, Basic and Secondary Education are in the purview of the state government yet some of the buildings in our primary and secondary schools nationwide are Tetfund projects and UBEC project which are Federal Governmemt intervention projects. Some states even refuse to contribute the counterpart funding for this project e.g Kwara. Look at Health Industry, the FG has NHIS but how many state government has keyed into the program? There are many cases like this. Let’s us talk about splitting up, the process is so tedious that the energy we will use for the process can be used to demand accountability from our leaders. If the people in each state unite (even if it’s along tribal lines) to demand accountability from their respective local representatives, we will begin to see changes we all clamor for. |
nihilistjnr:Are you saying once the country breaks up, these politicians will become saints overnight? Because I am sure they will still be the one conducting the affairs of things in these new country/region. Our problems goes far beyond disintegration, we have leadership issue and it is wishful thinking if we think splitting up will even begin to solve the issue. You have to look at this issue comprehensively. Look at each state in the country, they collect monthly allocation, generate internal revenue, even FG gives some states bail out funds yet their states is nothing to write home about. Do you think all these issue of corruption, kickback, nepotism, insecurity will go away once we split up? Let’s even look at the core state that makes up the so called Biafra; Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, some parts of Delta and Rivers. Are you saying once they get Biafra, Ikpeazu will turn a saint? Or Ihedioha that’s busy fighting Okorocha in Imo will begin to govern the state instead once we split up? Gov Umahi of Ebonyi did not need Biafra before he start working for his people and turning their fortunes around. There is no country that is 100% united but they don’t let nation building suffer because of their tribal differences. Those in the Senate and HoR are collecting their bogus allowances whether from the North or from the South. It is when it’s time for election that those tribal sentiments start coming up. |
mapman:At the bolded, it’s all part of the game. Nigerian lawyers said their client didn’t give them instructions on how to proceed, even the witness Nigeria called was a lawyer that wasn’t even in the know how of the whole thing. ![]() Then GEJ government decide to negotiate and pay them $800m. What kind of government hates its country so much to do that? Unfortunately for P&ID, GEJ lost re-election and Buhari will have none of it and here we are. There are pending cases in the US. The UK court that gave the judgement is even laughable. I wish Nigeria can also petition UK Judiciary to look into those judges affairs. UK judges did not find Shell culpable for environmental pollution in the Niger Delta area even when those pollutions leads to death of our citizens but they can award $9.6b for a sham contract. Nonsense. |
afrodoc2:I tell those I can that politics is local and to get it right, it must start at the grassroots. I think the country need massive reorientation about what to expect from their elected officials. Some see their elected official as an avenue to share in the National cake and not for Nation building. The pressure on elected official to “drop” something for boys/women/chiefs n so on in the community is an hindrance also. Some will even tell you if it’s roads, buildings n co they are going to eat without knowing that infrastructural development drives economic development. There are more questions than answers, are the “supposed good leaders” ready to do the work required to get to these positions? (Grassroots mobilizations and participation) Won’t most of them think going to the grassroots is below them already? How are we suppose to know the good leaders that won’t get corrupted by the system? As much as I believe in the country, sometimes I just sigh, shake my head and pray for a miracle. Everything look bleak. |
seankafor:What about all the minor tribes in the 3 major tribes? There’s tribal bigotry because that’s what our leaders are using to enslave us. When it’s time to share or loot the nation, there’s no Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Ijaw or Kanuri, they are one Nigerian. It is when it comes to politics that they start playing the tribal and religion card. We can co-exist if we shed the hatred, distrust and suspicion that our political leaders have sown among us. |
airmark:We don’t have to agree on everything. Cheers. ![]() |
afrodoc2:Solid point but don’t you think it is the political class that is still going to bring the changes we want in the nation? Yes we need to unite and shun ethnicity and religion but after uniting what comes next? We still need to clean the political system. Don’t forget that these politicial class are drawn from among us, they are not alien. They are the ones meant to preach unity but they are the one stoking the flames of religion and tribal sentiment for their own personal gain. The question I always ask is, if we do away with these ruling class, what’s the guarantee that those coming in will be better than these ones? I look at the current “Youth” who are to be leaders of tomorrow and I shake my head, how exactly are we going to get it right? Barrack Obama once asked a question “Strong men or strong institution” which do we need? I think this particular question is what we should find answer to currently. Which one do the nation needs right now, Strong men or Strong Institution? I say strong institution because Strong men will come and go but institution remains for continuous check and balances. I want to believe we still have incorruptible judges in the judiciary. We cannot keep making excuses, we have to try. Special corruption court with stringent guidelines will be a landmark achievement in cleansing our political system. Let corruption cases not extend beyond 3-5 months and straight to the Supreme Court for appeal which should not last more than 1 month. 1 of such court can be located in each geopolitical zones instead of taking everything to Abuja. Then the Supreme Court must screen all appeals coming to their table. So many frivolous appeal make their way to the Supreme Court which should have terminated at the CoA. Some cases use years before they are heard at the SC which shouldn’t be the case. We must find a way to reform our Judiciary. |
afrodoc2:The government officials in this particular deal are not ignorant. They are unscrupulous and greedy officials who only care about what enters their own pocket. It’s unfortunate how corruption has eaten deep into the country fabrics. It will take a lot of cleansing to get us out of these mess we have found ourselves. Those who benefit from all these corruption will not go down easily, they will fight to protect their interest. The judiciary need massive restructuring, cases drag for too long and most times they are lost on technicalities. There are some cases they should terminate at the CoA but it goes all the way to the Supreme Court. They need to restructure that judiciary and create a special corruption court to fast tracking trial of corruption cases. |
Ibime:From the report one quote that stuck with me is “ Nigerians need to pity their own country for the way things were done in the past”. Aondoakaa is claiming he didn’t see the contract papers neither was the contract brought to Federal Executive Council, so who exactly signed the contract on behalf of Nigeria? The deal is shrouded in secrecy, I am most certain some Nigerian elite are involved in this sham. Fingers are pointing to TY Danjuma but I don’t believe he’s alone on this. P&ID have no official office in Nigeria, they don’t even have a functional website ffs. When they took the country to court, why were the Nigerians lawyers reluctant to participate in the case? It was a well coordinated scam. It’s no wonder GEJ negotiated to pay them $800m. Bello Adoke needs to be arrested immediately, that useless former AG was also involved in the sale of OPL 245 to Eni/Shell currently ongoing trial in Italy Courts. He’s said to have received $200m from the deal. ![]() Rilwanu Lukman was the petroleum minister then and he’s dead. Yar Adua was in coma then so who gave them the approval since the contract didn’t pass through FEC. Even Michael Quinn himself is dead. This scam against the country must not stand. I hear FG has opened corruption case against P&ID and are challenging the British judgement. How the British court that didn’t find Shell culpable for their environmental pollution in the Niger Delta that even resulted to deaths of Nigerians awarded P&ID that huge amount of money for a sham contract is laughable. |
mapman:Bros, it’s a well coordinated scam against the Country. Former Attonery General Chief Aondoakaa, the Attonery General when the deal was signed claimed he didn’t see any contract papers. The contract didn’t pass through Federal Executive Council, so who exactly signed the deal on behalf Nigeria? Who approved it? When the arbitration started, Nigeria lawyers were reluctant to participate because the deal was to get the company awarded damages so they could share the proceed. Treason against their own country because of money. On what ground did GEJ negotiated to pay them $800m in compensation? For which work done? TY Danjuma name has come up already and I won’t be surprised if Obasanjo or Atiku name comes up as things unravel before our eyes. Buhari n FG will fight this scam to a reasonable conclusion, those bastards won’t see $1 from Nigeria. I’m glad the justice department has opened corruption case against the company. |
bobowaja:Me I ready for them na. Fire for fire. No time. |

For those that want to read about this P&ID sham, read this from Bloomberg. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2019-09-04/is-one-of-the-world-s-biggest-lawsuits-built-on-a-sham |
Lana1:Rodgers in top 10 has to be pure banter. No other explanation. |
ChristoBam:Well the team Pep inherited at City hasn’t won the league for 2 season before Pep, Pep even went trophyless in his first season, that should be a pointer towards how the team is. Pep has been the better manager in the past 3 seasons in my opinion. |
spillo1:I disagree. Pep over Klopp for me. It’s debatable though so whichever divide you chose you fine. |
Jarus:It should be a pointer that something is cooking. The silence is loud. I believe APL will drop when no one expect. A lot of inner readjustment seems to be ongoing and no one knows who it will affect so most of the staffs are more concerned about looking after themselves than the recruitment or maybe just maybe they have been told not to disclose anything about the recruitment exercise to anyone. |
Lana1:Klopp over Pep? ![]() Erik Ten Hang at 19 below OGS? ![]() Very laughable list, any list that doesn’t have Pep at no 1 should be discarded ASAP. |
