olawale100: I am based in Nigeria.
His own is not a case of fraud but it is a case of ;
1. Irresponsibility - Abandoning site and duty.
2. Misinformation - Not specifying the type of drilling (Hand drill) and mixing (hand mix as against concrete mixer) method
3. Unprofessional - Subcontracted the job without ensuring the project is seen through.
Like I mentioned, I had paid 78% of project cost, and the balance 22% was used to pay the drillers. The project cost me more eventually I had to pay for concrete mixer for 7 days and paid for casting of 12 pile points. My finger was burnt but not so much. If I did not know one or two things about buildings, I would have been dealt a bad blow.
I actually sent a mail to him that I will post on Nairaland. Sir, what happened is so unfortunate! I think what causes all this is lack of contract terms...the two of you didn't define how the project will flow. You actually overlooked this thinking its a small project. I think you should have used the contract terms to open up a good communication on the project flow. Now in his own mind, he has calculated using hand drilling, i dont know if that reflected in the quote he submitted. You changing his tactics to motorize drilling could have destabilized him. But he, on his part should have informed you of the changes that could occur as a result of this and possibly ask for a contract variation instead of the hide and seek game, or just backed out. but money is not easy to refund back, he would have spent a lot on logistics. What i see is actually misunderstanding, lack of communication and clear terms. |

@spyder880, these steel stanshions has proven to be the best practice for decades now but they are a lil expensive.
Another thing is to go for the galvanized which is relatively cheap but will provide the required strenght needed.
Using stand alone concrete is also good if its done properly. But it seems to be of old fashion. |

kopell: Bros which one bi rubber again, to my knowledge most tanks are made with plastic oh, expect those of metal steel. Abi Naija done invent something better with rubber? They were actually supposed to be produced as a rubber so as to be able to withstand enough stress and variable temperatures. but u know nigeria now...there will always be a second product. The plastics are the lower grade, they break easily being of a brittle nature. |

Drilling in Imeko.....The top soil is made up of a hard highly Ferruginised laterite, about 80ft in thickness. you can spend 2days on this alone depending on the rig you are using.
After this, be prepared to enter into a very loose units of kaoline and sand. This is what you will be drilling till you reach about 150ft.
At around 150ft, you will meet an aquifer, but you shouldn't rely on this. There is another hard laterite confining another aquifer beneath. The best practice is to penetrate through this hard laterite. This helps you to be on a safer side and also could give you an artisan hole.
Try and go deeper through the laterite then into another loose sand and clay. At this level, you can confidently terminate the hole at around 200ft. If you have enough strenght, you can move to 250ft to create enough reservoir and to allow enough space for your pump to sit.
All the best! |

Mrbigman1: But rusher say the sounder dnt ve radioactive source. Make un dey careful with una preek oh! Lol.
Do u probe an open hole or just place on d floor and send down signal? yea, its nt radioactive....it can only detect radioactive element in the subsurface and it dont have to come in contact with anythn b4 measurement is made thereby making it useful in both cased or uncased hole. Nice meeting u here too. |

And do u recycle mud? Or it just waste on coming to surface? u just put the pressure at zero bar, at dat level, it ll still be efficient to bring cutting up. the mud are always recycled, u dnt expect it to be disposed off na.... |

Mrbigman1: Is d sounder designed to pick layers?
I don miss geology oh and it's fvcking assumptions.
U get sleepless nights and assume heaven and earth, in d morning supervisor calls u a idiot. U go back to site, gride and get same readings again, d main idiot says goan remove noise. Nigerian lectures are trained to depress Dia students. We dnt see anything good in anyone. lols, the sonde has gamma rays dat distinguish sand from shale. dnt mind doz lecturers, dey dnt know dat field experience is totally different from classroom |

rusher14: The sonde is part of the well logging equipment and could be anything from resistivity probe to sonic (rarely used in water wells).
The other gadget is simply a preliminary tool for noting the water level in a well such as one you do not have prior knowledge of or one whose recovery rate you were trying to determine.
The rate at which the well is replenished can be determined over time if you knew the water depth at every given time. yeap.. |
Business › Re: Steps: How To Start A Borehole Drilling Business In Nigeria by Larwin(m): 12:26am On Feb 01, 2017 |
Mrbigman1: Increase mud weight. But first, u circulate very heavy mud (pill) to block off, if it dnt, u increase mud weight. Dis comes with its own disadvantage, d weight and d pressure used in circulating it might cause further damage, and it may block off pores in sandstones required for production. So, dey always slow down, or stop drilling and watch on tank to check if it will happen on a stable well, if it happens, den Dia is danger, if it dnt, dey can go down gradually and increase weight of mud. If it cures, dey go back to normal weight or density.
Every project has a program set down already. yea, thats what we do in water industry too...increasing the mud weight cud lead to caving in or collapsing of the formation. we also do introduce saw dust with the drilling mud so as to seal the pores. another means is to introduce air at zero pressure to drill pass that formation depending on the formation sha. |

rusher14: The sounder I mentioned isn't radioactive.
It's a simple probe used in measuring the water level within a well. It beeps on coming in contact with water and is ideal for measuring the static water level as the reel is graduated.
It's truly sad to see the standard of borehole engineering hasn't improved in Nigeria since I left it over a decade ago.
sir, we do incorporate this to complement our geophysical survey, especially wen u cudnt spread enuf due to obstruction while doing d routine resistivity survey....what we do is to look for lets say an abandoned hole in the area and we send sonde inside. this will help us know each formation type and thicknesses and so we can design the drilling plan... |
