Thank u oo. All those haters don't remember that. It's only to be jealous they know. Instead of rejoicing at the fact that the man has a daughter (who is getting married) he wants to spend his wealth on. So what if marriages of the wealthy fail. At the end of the day, he remains wealthy and the haters will die with their wretched, oh-woe- is-me, poverty stricken mentality (If care is not taken). Awon oloshi gbogbo!!!

What does it matter if he chooses to fly Beyonce for his daughter's wedding. Last time I checked it is a free world and I am pretty sure no one here had a part to play in him amassing his fortunes.
   For me I would opt for unanimous charity in addition to gospel artists of my choice. But he wants Beyonce, more grease to his elbows.
  And for those who are hating on the daughter being ugly, haba now, she is not bad. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

@Pittbaby: Did you rcv a timeframe on when it was to be mailed? If so was it mailed at that time? I ask because I was given 4/1/10 and that has not been done per the tracking info on usps.

I hail you all and pray you are all doing well wherever you find yourselves. Has any one traveled from the US recently (Jan 1 2010 - present?) to Nigeria. What were your experience upon arrival, whether it be via Nnamdi Azikwe, or Murtalla Mohammed airports Thanks in advance for your responses.

So fellow Nairalanders. I was recently at the Nigerian Consulate in NY and would like to share my experience. I arrived 15 mins early (the passport/visa office opens at 10am), picked a number and waited to be called. The place was packed kai. Anyway, if you are there for the new e passport (of course you would have completed your application online and paid the $65 fee first), you would need the following: Old Passport, Birth/Age Declaration, Certificate, Marriage Certificate (if applicable), $20 Money Order (which I advice to be left blank until you are called), Police report incase of a lost passport ($350 money order penalty for loss of passport). In addition, A COPY OF THE PAYMENT ACKNOWLEDGMENT SLIP showing PAYMENT CONFIRMED. THIS IS EXTREMELY VITAL BECAUSE THE CONSULATE LADY WOULD NOT ACCEPT IT OTHERWISE. THIS IS NOT THE CONFIRMATION OF PAYMENT SENT FROM SW GLOBAL/GOOGLE CHECKOUT  TO YOUR EMAIL!!! If you do not receive this wanted confirmation via email as in my case, then go on the immigration website: http://www.nigeriahouse.com. Click on New Passport under the Forms Tab. Click on Passport Application Status. Enter your Passport Application ID and Reference Number. [MAKE SURE WHEN INITIALLY APPLYING, YOU SAVE THIS INFO]. This brings you to the applicant details page. Click PRINT RECEIPT NOT PRINT ACKNOWLEDGMENT SLIP. MAKE SURE IT SHOWS PAYMENT CONFIRMED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE. I can not stress this enough. It would save you the hassle of running across the street to do emergency reprint.
Also a copy of the ONLINE APPLICATION YOU SUBMITTED (MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ONCE COMPLETED). If you are coming from out of town, I would recommend you bring a self addressed Priority Mail Envelop with enough postage and delivery confirmation. The post office would advice you on the exact amounts. Save the tracking number for your reference.
This should cut down tremendously on your wait time. You picture is then taken with your thumb print and you would be advised when passport would be mailed.

In reponse to your post "See link to list of banned countries.http://myusgreencard.com/requirements.html". For your info, that is not an official US govt website. Such website would end with a dot gov (.gov) and not dot.com (.com). Which means the individual providing info could have been wrong.
On the government website it still lists Nigeria as eligible for the DV-2011. See the link http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/DV-2011instructions. Whose entrant registration was btw
Oct 2,2009 and Nov30, 2009. No where does it confirm your info on the exclusion of Nigeria.

 I happen to frequent both Facebook and Nairaland. While FB happens to reach out to a global audience and is a multi-level social networking medium, NL affords Nigerians (and their friends/foes) post comments on Nija issues (albeit tribalist, racist, and lacking intelligence sometimes) anoymously.
So for me they can both be lively depending on what thread I happen to be reading.

At the risk of sounding like a walking ad for Blackberry here goes. I guess I happen to be among the few BB owners that actually use majority of its features. I still prefer the size of my Flip to the newer Bolds/Curves/Storms etc. The others are just too bulky for me. Used to be Nokia fan but now very pleased w/ my bb flip. Different strokes for different folks!!!

Then I really would call the airlines. If you have just a regular non immigrant visa, the max period is usually 6 months (Unless yours is different). In which case, you would be able to give birth and not worry about overstaying.

Could you clarify whether you already have a valid visa for travel and mean being refused entry by Immigration upon arrival in the US? It depends on how far along you are. I saw a video on youtube about a lady who was refused onboarding while still in Nigeria for this reason. Despite having a valid visa and passport.
Typically, because of increased risk of going into labour, most airlines require a letter from your doctor stating you're fit to travel and your estimated delivery date once you're over 28 weeks pregnant. If you are more that 36 weeks pregnant most airlines will not let you fly due to the increased risk off deliverying on board.
My advise would be to contact the airlines before hand to avoid any surprises. Also, just as important consider the health risks. Hope this helps.

I plan on going to get the e-passport and would like to be as close to the place without incuring a fortune!!! So far I was able to find Radisson on 511 Lexington Ave, W New York and Best Western Hospitality Suites. Thanks in advance for the kind assistance.

Dear Dee-ess, this thread is an old one from 2006. But you know perhaps the poster's friend really did not have issues leaving Nija initially. I mean he could have been much younger. Nothing wrong in him being cautious since he has not been back in 10yrs. Wouldn't you say
