FamilyRe: Counselling: Strictly For Couples And Intending Couples! by LaShawn:
And the guy is enjoying the relationship with my family. They've made him feel very welcome and he has no qualms with anyone.

The thing is, It's not just this uncle they are complaining to. They are making this complaints anywhere and everywhere and even to friends.
If it was such an issue, why not talk to me about it? Do you want to turn the tide of public opinion against me or What?

All in all, I wish I had read this thread in and out before delving into all this. Maybe I wouldn't have my expectations so high.

Thank you all for the advice. I really appreciate from the bottom of my heart.

FamilyRe: Please Advise! Heavy Menstrual Period!!! by LaShawn(op): 7:26pm On Aug 23, 2014
Hi all. cheesy

Couldn't make it to the clinic today. It's still in my plans though. Well, my period lasts 5 days. The 5th and 6th day is more or less of just spotting.

Like I started this cycle Last Monday and I slept without any pad Last night. Also went out and was good.

Flow was OK on Monday, gushing heavily on Tuesday like a tap, better on Wednesday as in still heavy But more of flow not gushing, more better on Thursday. By Friday, I was No longer in fear of being stained.

My greatest fear was that Tuesday. I was sitting and stood up and felt the blood rushing out. If I hadn't sat down again, waiting on one butt cheek for the padding to absorb it, I would have started dripping on the floor Because the rush of the menstrual blood was more than the rate the padding could absorb.

Even thinking about it makes my heart beat fast. What if?

In a hall filled with people?
Gosh!

Ha! Is Hsg that test where a microscope is inserted in your womanliness ? Never in a million years!! Have three people tell me their experience and they all agree that the pain is INTENSE. Deeprooted, uterus pain.

#shivers. NAH

baby124: Maybe your blood is having issues clotting. My own does not have that issue and my heavy periods are simply hereditary. With age though, they have reduced and the pain has reduced too. But in the place of that I am having serious nausea and fatigue these days.
I feel nauseous alot of time. Have to eat lots of pepper not to....

babyosisi: OMG
I strongly suspect you have an inherited bleeding disorder
The commonest is called Von willibrands disease, there are other rarer ones

You need to go to a teaching hospital ASAP
These roadside gynecologist can't help you
There is treatment for it
But my gums don't bleed and I've Never had a nose bleed. Just that I noticed when I get wounded, seems to bleed quite a lot. Could also be the severity of the wound as Ive been in some situations where i was wounded quite badly. I put it down to having a lot of blood. #undecided.

Because When I gave blood for a friends thesis test, the little blood jar pretty much filled up without any hassle while my roommate with very light flow could only give a few drops as her veins refused to cooperate abi whether the blood was dried ni.

baby124: It's genetic for some people. With time the flow will reduce, though it will still be heavier than others. Also, don't be afraid to use tampon, it cannot disvirgin you, though I understand your fear. However tampon with liner's will make down there dry and cleaner than pad, which used to leave me with a wet and uncomfortable feeling. Make sure you drink a lot of water, it helps with the cramps and take iron supplements. Only take pain medicine when you feel pain, so you don't end up taking too much as all these medicines have side effects
I know that wet and uncomfortable feeling....still scared though. I'll start with the iron supplements too.... huh

babyosisi: @ OP,do you bleed excessively when you cut yourself?
Yes. Like a fountain
FamilyRe: Please Advise! Heavy Menstrual Period!!! by LaShawn(op): 12:02am On Aug 21, 2014
babyosisi: No cramps?
I missed that
Most likely not endometriosis then,Endometriosis usually is accompanied by cramps and bloating

You may have a hormonal imbalance
Not making a diagnosis here
Sadly I don't know if Nigerian doctors are able to handle what it takes to have you regulated
All these years and not a diagnosis yet from a doctor
How frustrating is that

Are you able to travel out?
Our medical care in Nigeria is pathetic
I will hate for you to spend money going from place to place and seeing all these people that have no clue and no experience in this but only after your pocket
You need to see a competent and experienced gynecologist and endocrinologist ( doctors who specialize in glandular hormonal stuff) for a proper diagnosis and course of treatment.

My friend's father was treated for years for an illness in Nigeria, even had surgery only to come to America and it was a hormonal issue
Sadly can't travel out now. But I'll seek out good medical care. When I'm on leave, I'll travel for a third opinion at a teaching hospital on of my friends used.

She was producing milk without being pregnant and was diagnosed of a cyst and cervical adhesion. She has a baby now after hormonal treatment from there....

Good evening all.

I must say Thank you, to each and everyone of you. I appreciate you all Because I Never expected this level of support. I'm touched.

I have decided to visit a new clinic. I will give the update when I do that. I will also be shopping for comfit, Pampers and always, so I can chose which of the new styles I've Learnt works best for me. I am saving efes tampon suggestions for Later. Maybe when Im married. I'm just pscared of those pointy looking things. embarassed
I'll also be checking for the mat mat to curb night leakage.

About it being a growth responsible for this, I've been checked for that. Apart from the heavy flow, there is absolutely zero pain/cramp. It was when I was on birth control that I noticed I was having a few hours of back ache. And that happened on the day I was passing out clots (which was Because of the BC).

Now that I'm off the pill, I have zero cramps. No pain, No back ache and pain is a major part of endometrioses mostly abi?.

I have those liver-like clots too. The first time It happened was on the last day of my very first period at 14. While the flow wasn't heavy per se, there the clot was after the vaginal pain of it passing through my uterus?

I also thought it could a thyroid deficiency, which led me to put a drop of iodine on my skin every night at a point. That month, my period gushed with vengeance as usual.

Again, Thank you for your wishes...

Nb- at a point, I contemplated getting and wearing adult Pampers o. I kid you not....and talking of kids, hopefully the times not too far off...
But this Pampers style, How do you do it. is it worn like pant? or folded inside the pant.

moca: Lashawn, heavy period has nothing to do with sexx.
Tampoons can't contain heavy periods.
U will still use pad or tissue while on tampoon.
Giving birth don't reduce d flow.

Try reducing ur intake of protein towards ur period(especially beans)
If u r at home, drink something hot(hot lipton to quiken d flow) so d intensity will reduce if wanna go out.

U r even lucky, most heavy bleeding comes with serious cramps.
Women wahala.sorry but know its not only u. Some r worst
I'll watch it then. Though I eat more of Carb as it is. I'll also try the hot tea part.

Thank you.

Infact, you guys have really made me feel like I'm not alone. I was really bashful of posting this. I feel lighter and happy. I don't feel quite ashamed as I was feeling before.

bellong: See a good gynecologist and not a trial by error doctor.

You have endured for this long, why not keep enduring than looking for a solution that in itself is an open door to many more troubles. The idea of sex shouldn't arise as part of the solutions.

I wish you a lasting solution in this quest.
I endured while in school Because lectures were at most 2 or 3 hours and I could change between classes or even skip them.

Also, I had choices in clothing that could help disguise the condition.

Now I work in a corporate environment, sometimes for up to fourteen hours in a day. There is No room for trips to the loo every 2 hours.
Moreover, it seems to be getting worse than it used to be. A few years ago, I could get away with buying and using a pad. Now, I have to start making mine with the new styles I just learnt here.

I agree though that I should be careful with where I go for solution. The US trained gynae was muttering to himself if he should slate me for a d & c.

While also a treatment for heavy bleeding, I Googled that it can make things worse....
Thank you!

modele2: I had the same issue. It embarrassed me to a point that I stopped getting embarrassed. I only went to two doctors though and both said I was fine no fibroid etc. The blood even used to come in heavy clots and clumps as well. I started to fabricate my own padding. Get the ones thy use after giving birth Dr brown I place two or three on top of each other. I use blade to cut the middle of each one so the blood would not spill over but funnel Dow. I then round off with always that is extra long the one that is 7 in a pack.then wear very tight panties to keep it all together.
I then ensure I wear a black skirt or trouser. At the same time I keep tabs of all the nearest toilets and keep changing the topmost pad when ever I can. I avoid journeys during that period as well.
The last doctor told me it would reduce with childbirth and indeed it has. Btw I married late so had to suffer this for a while. I was also not sexuallyactive. The use of a tampon is not enough reason to have sec. And I feel tampon sef cannot take that heavy flow.
Also contraception pills can drastically alter your cycle.they stop being regular and might still contracept even when you want to start having kids.
Do you use the ALWAYS to wrap the other ones or is the ALWAYS under them. Doesnt it bulge? I always wear a black skirt too.
Thank you, really appreciate.

MzJackBaueress: My younger sister had the same experience when she was still a virgin. She used to have very heavy flow that lasts up to a week. She went to see a gynae and he bluntly told her there's nothing to be done about it. He told her that her fertility is very high and that the heavy menstrual flow will subside when she starts having kids.
Today,my sister has four kids and her period has regulated.

So Op,you don't need to be worried. Nothing is wrong with you. When you get married and start having kids,it won't be the same again.
Hmmn. How I Wish this is the case. I'll be seeing another gynae. We'll see what he has to say....

Thank you.

egopersonified: Op, while seeking for a permanent solution, when yr period comes on, try using two to three pads at once. There is this comfit pad used in Nigeria when women go to delivery rooms, its just cotton wool wrapped in a cotton net, like old school pad, you can wear two of these and one of the sticky, 'wrap around the panties' pad. This is what I do within the first few days of giving birth, becos I also feel this running like a tap issue during these times. All the best.
I'll get this comfit this weekend. Haven't Tried that before. Thank you....I appreciate.

alutacontinua: there are other ways of getting rid of a hymen.
why must you need a d*ck to do it? tongue
really, I know it must be a lot to go through, try and replenish the blood as much as possible, eat food rich in iron and some iron tablets and take good care of yourself during that period. There are pads for heavy flow, change constantly-say every 2 to 3 hours, shower as much as you possibly can. I know it ain't easy but it's a cross, bear it! kiss

and don't forget to see a GOOD gynecologist cool
Why not a dik. You want me to go the cold, clinical route, abi.? *hard frown.

I've used pads for heavy flow before. Non has been satisfactory. I've used Dr Brown and Trust. Too bulky and it has the tendency of bunching together resulting in side leakage.
There was a time I fell in love with one product like that. But after using it twice, couldn't find it again in the market.

sheunfemix: One certain thing abt all u av said is that u are mentally stressed up about your period. U have to put ur mind @ ease and dnt over work ur self mentally about it. I heard an experience of a woman. She had finished her period for about 3 days but then she almost got killed motorcycle. She said her period came back instantly gushing out like a tap. The advice I can give unfortunately is a family planing ish too. Its an implant ur doc will put in ur hand. Side effect is irregular period. Good for those with heavy flow. U cud get an implant of 7years. All still goes down to seeing ur doc
Thank you. I'll try not to think about it. Though I work in a very stressful environment. I'm always stressed one way or another.

Lol. Today, I even found myself looking wistfully at a pregnant woman. I was envying her seriously. No period for nine months plus? It was a very attractive thought to me oooo...
FamilyRe: Please Advise! Heavy Menstrual Period!!! by LaShawn(op): 5:46pm On Aug 19, 2014
Chaleeee: If you are bleeding heavily, certain self-care strategies such as making yourself comfortable, getting plenty of rest, drinking extra fluids and eating iron-rich foods can improve how you are feeling. Monitor your menstrual cycle so that you know when to expect your period, keep track of how heavy your flow is and the number of sanitary towels or tampons used.

Take over-the-counter medication such as ibuprofen which will help to reduce flow and relieve menstrual pain. Remember to avoid aspirin as it can prolong bleeding. If you are anemic, you should also increase your intake of iron and folic supplements.

Your health practitioner may recommend a low–dose oral contraceptive pill or progesterone therapy to regulate the menstrual cycle and decrease bleeding(since this did not work for you, I guess you have to keep a tab on your cycle so as to save you the embarrassment that may come with unexpected heavy flow.
Thank you. I've gone the ibuprofen route before...didn't work too. I also know when It's about to start Because my period is very very regular.
I can calculate and know exactly when it would start.

My problem is the volume when it starts. Like this cycle started yesterday, so I was well prepared before going for work TODAY.

But is there a way to ever be prepared for a period that feels and acts like a tap turned on? If I'm seated and I stand up, it feels like It's going to overflow and run down my legs, Sorry TMI.
What does it profit a woman to be well prepared and all But blood starts running down her legs and dripping on the floor on standing up to go n get changed?

I can't even use pads at this point. They get soaked before you say 1-2. sad

freecocoa: Why place someone who isn't even having Sex on birth control? Isn't that dangerous? Hian!

Well OP, I empathize with you, from your post, your period didn't start that way, so I guess something went wrong along the line, too heavy flow isn't normal, I suggest you try other doctors.

I'm not sure about Sex solving anything but I do know a friend's mum had to undergo surgery for something in her pelvis, they said it was due to late Sex or something, medical experts will know better.
Well, he said the pill was supposed to make me stop bleeding so much. I'll have to try other doctors, just don't have a good one to try yet. The former doctor was US trained But I've moved away from that location.

I'm not talking of sex solving it. I was talking of it so I can start using tampon instead of padding.
FamilyPlease Advise! Heavy Menstrual Period!!! by LaShawn(op):
Please this is not for the squeamish. If you are, kindly click on your back button. If you also don't have a positive comment, you don't have to leave any.

I posted this here Because of the mothers who I know might have one or two advice. If You're about to suggest I visit the health section, I did more than that. I visited a hospital.

I started menstruating when I was in SS2. I'm an only girl, so there wasn't any other person to compare blood loss volume to.
The first time, the blood stopped on the third day, and over time, I was pretty much able to manage things well that my roommates thought I hadn't started menstrual periods. It was light, convenient and I didn't have to do anything outside my daily routine.

Fast forward to today. I was at a meeting and stood up and I felt blood gush out so much that I had to collapse back on my seat, paralyzed with the thought of it seeping through my pants and running down my legs into a bloody puddle at my feet. Actually, that has happened before, just that nobody was around to see it.

It was/is that bad and has been for some years.

Immediately one period finishes without any serious accident, I find myself thinking of the other one to come, wondering if that would be the time of disgrace.

I am honestly tired, physically and emotionally. I went to a gynecologist who placed me on birth control which he said would reduce it a good 60%. It didn't work. If anything, I started getting cramps which I normally don't have.

I have done scans-Twice. The doctor said there isn't anything on the result that should be making me bleed so. One of the result had a functional cyst, which was Because I was ovulating.

I have done high vajay swab twice. All they found were normal epithelial cells.

I was supposed to go back to the doctor and give feedback, But I moved to another.

I'm seriously thinking of having sex, Maybe it will afford me the opportunity of being able to tame this issue with tampax/tampon. Ive never been able to do that because ive not had sex before.
Because as it is,.I feel like I'm running out of options. I don't want that day to come, that I would have to run for the bathroom with blood dripping all over. I'm just tired. And sick.

Like today, I soaked through my menstrual padding, through my pant, and then my khaki short short that was under my skirt.

Mod, Please DO NOT take this to front page
FamilyRe: For Abused Wives, Girlfriends & Men!!! by LaShawn: 10:39pm On Nov 26, 2013
I'm happy for you, Bluu. And I beg you not to go back. No matter how he pleads, no matter what he says/sends to you via text.
He might tell you that you drive him crazy, that is why he loses control where you are concerned.
He might tell you that he has only you, and that is why he's forcing you to have sex.

All na wash! Don't even pick his calls to begin with. Ignore all messages!

Don't think you can pray him into changing. If there is one thing God has given man, it's free-will. And these abusive men have no intention of changing as long as there're women out there willing to settle for them.

I kid you not when I tell you I changed my ex'es name on my phone to 'in Jesus name', in the hope of Jesus touching his heart. This was in addition to prayers by me.
That was even when he intensified the taunting and name-calling.
In Jesus name would call and by the time he dropped, I was either weeping or in one emotional pain or the other. There was NOTHING Christ-like about him.

My cousin who saved her boyfriend as Big Baby was enjoying, being lavished with love and gifts.

Nobody told me before I changed the phone back to his normal name for God cannot be mocked.

Even now, I learnt he's praying and fasting for me to come back. I can bet my pic with him is translucently stained with anointing oil.
As everyone can see, the prayers are not even 0.1% effective.
I will repeat again, God cannot be mocked.
