obailala:
If Biafra is granted today, what becomes the fate of the 90% of the Igbo population that lives outside Igboland?... has this ever been given a proper thought?... If we still intend to live outside Biafran territory and go about our normal businesses peacefully, so what then is this present clamour for Biafra all about?

The federal government over the decades has failed every single zone of the country (and not just the south-east), the only area where the Igbos may have fallen short is in producing a president. The 3 other major ethnic groups have produced presidents who have done nothing other than loot, loot and loot. While the looting exercise was ongoing, illustrious Igbo sons and daughters also also joined in the looting game but today Igbos still feel cheated and left out. Probably when an Igbo man becomes president and also loots his share, then many of the secessionists may feel fulfilled that Igbos have been 'included' in Nigeria... and then I ask, is this a positive thing?

The problem which we always had and which we still have is a problem of bad and incompetent leaders. It shocks me why some Igbos cannot look beyond their nose to see this but instead, myopically think a Biafran secession will AUTOMATICALLY solve all our underdevelopment problems instantly even though we still have individuals like T.A Orji, Stella Oduah, Orji uzor kalu, udenwa etc as our 'statesmen' who would end up ruling us if Biafra actually succeeds.
.
Bros, na dis same question I ask wey some people nearly wan lynch me for another thread. shocked shocked Just because I asked if they had thought about what would happen to the assets, properties, buildings and businesses that Igbo people had outside Ala'Igbo, if they decide to enforce Biafra using their current methods. Who would watch over those assets??! Till today, no tangible, rational, fool-proof answer has come from anywhere.

Come and see the arguments that followed!! Chai! Dia ris God, oh! shocked sad

Lastly, Biafra was before Nigeria, and Biafra will emerge back with it's people building a civilization, black Africa and Africans will look upto.

Then, give us Biafra for a year, if Nigerians don't denounce their Nigerian citizenship to embrace Biafra, then God will kill us all in IPOB..

But whenever an Okpanam son/daughter makes a positive achievement he or she becomes Delta Igbo, Niger Deltan or Igoid

Hypocrisy eshi gbuola m ebe a.

Anyway, I'm happy Nairalanders are beginning to acknowledge that Igbo people do not only inhabit the South East as their ancestral home but also live in large numbers in their fathers' land in the South South.
It's good Igbos can now be rightfully called Niger Deltans and we can now also say "we south south". cheesy
Okwu afù ̣gbàlù ̣m̀ ghalịị. Hypocrisy, kwa?? Where?? shocked You should actually take up any issues you have about Nzeogwu's heritage or place of origin with NaijirianKing. He was the one who initially alleged that Nzeogwu was actually from the West. huh

Secondly, to most other non-Igbo, all Igbo people from South-East or South-South are jointly seen as Igbo. The distinctions about whether someone is Delta-Igbo or Igboid, are actually made by the core Igbo themselves and their SS relatives.

On NL, there have been folks from Ikwerre who have argued that they are not Igbo; while there are others who would gladly claim they are part and parcel of the larger Igbo community. The same thing goes for those from Delta.

The rest of us who are non-Igbo will only address your people, by what they choose to call themselves. No man can enforce any identity on another individual, which he does not want to bear. undecided

NaijirianKing:
This is an interesting write up, however it is slightly incorrect, Nzeagwu was not from Eastern Nigeria, or even South Eastern Nigeria (SE Nigeria didn't exist back then), he was actually from Western Nigeria, Or what later became Mid-Western State just before the civil war.

Moreover, Ironsi centralized the government in order to restructure it once civilians took over. Unfortunately he was killed at the beginning of his term as Head of State. Once he was killed, the coup plotters decided to keep the unitary system as it would allow for more control over the other regions. Part of this desire was control over the oil in the East.
With all due respect, Patrick Chukwuma Nzeogwu, was an Igbo man from Okpanam. sad The issue of whether his hometown was located in the East, South-East, South-South or West does not arise. It amazes me that when issues like this come up, people try to re-assign the ethnic origin of the individual, to a geographical region or latitude. shocked

Finally, Ironi never had any intention to restructure Nigeria. There is nowhere that he gave a confirmation of such an intention. He abolished federalism and set up the central or unitary system of government, that has contributed to the political woes of many areas today. undecided

Like a writer once said: "If Chukwuma had not struck, Ironsi as a national leader would not have emerged."

I may not agree with many of the things the Sardauna was reported to have said in his lifetime, but I will always appreciate the fact that he gave scholarships and opportunities to all Northerners - irrespective of their ethnicity, location or language. sad

In fact, he went out of his way to ensure that Northern minorities under his regime got the same benefits as core Northerners. undecided

Unfortunately, his lieutenants that succeeded him did not put the interest of Northerners first, like he did. They only took over power to fill their pockets at the expense of their people's well-being. undecided

NDIGBO, OJUKWU & BIAFRA: WHERE DID WE GO WRONG (PART 1)
By Osita H. Olisa | Nigeriaworld.com

...We have been conditioned, customized and stereotyped to think and believe our real enemies to be the ("Oligarchy and Mgbati Mgbati,)- a derogatory euphemism that refers to our brothers and sisters on the other side of the divide, and they in turn have their own epithet against us up their sleeves, if you do not mind my vernacular"wink.

We have been preached to, without dissecting every word that crawls out of the mouth of greatest grand wizard of deceit, the only one "Eze Gburu-Gburu Ndigbo", for too long. This purported enemies of Ndigbo is a hybrid construct in effigy, fictitiously contrived and quilted, for purpose of transference and stereotyping. Not that we are absolved from taking personal responsibilities, for we must be in concurrence that we unconsciously colluded, at least in the barest minimum, in creating the enabling environment for its germination and flowering....

...."Ndigbo" are a class of people who have always seen themselves as intelligent and knowledge bunch, and, rightfully so. This belief however, and unfortunately, stands in sharp contrast in the face of overwhelming evidence that "Ndigbo" was duped and shortchanged by an unmitigated pretender, we ("Ndigbo" ) erroneously elevated as an impeccable genuine leader, of whom we ("Ndigbo" ) followed, sheepishly, like herd of cattle led to abattoir. The reaction formations and defense mechanisms we ("Ndigbo" ), persistently and consistently employ ; rather than to accept responsibility for our crass, ignorant conduct of herd mentality. Because we followed a deceitful leader without asking penetrating questions we have compulsively refused to come to terms with our past. This resistance has created unending impediment to any spiritual renewal, reawakening, growth and and development.

Our great teacher Aristotle said and l quote "human virtue is contrary to human impulse". It is always an act of grace and spiritual superiority for one to own-up when one has transgressed and accordingly, tender reserved apologies either written or tacit remorse expressed through subsequent conducts and behaviors. What follows when this threshold is met, is a release of regenerative energies and complete effacement of sense of guilt. When you conceive lies as guiding principles, and employ lies as a way of life, nothing positive will come out of it, except, that you will perch precariously on a void.
