Politics › Re: Dear Our Igbo Brother: Ask Gowon To Apologise To Nigerians by laudate:
kennynelcon:
With tribalism, Nigeria has no future.

The cleansing must start with the president.
True talk, my brother. Here is another perspective from an Igbo writer.

Chimamanda Adiche: Ethnicity has become, in Nigeria, more political than cultural, less about philosophy and customs and values, and more about which bank is a Yoruba or Hausa or Igbo bank, which political office is held by which ethnicity, which revered leader must be turned into a flawless saint. We cannot deny ethnicity. It matters. But our ethnic and national identities should not be spoken of as though they were mutually exclusive; I am as much Igbo as I am Nigerian. I have hope in the future of Nigeria, mostly because we have not yet made a real, conscious effort to begin creating a nation (We could start, for example, by not merely teaching Maths and English in primary schools, but also teaching idealism and citizenship.)

For some non-Igbo, confronting facts of the war is uncomfortable, even inconvenient. But we must hear one another’s stories. It is even more imperative for a subject like Biafra which, because of our different experiences, we remember differently. Biafrian minorities were distrusted by the Igbo majority, and some were unfairly attacked, blamed for being saboteurs. Nigerian minorities, particularly in the midwest, suffered at the hands of both Biafrian and Nigerian soldiers.

‘Abandoned property’ cases remain unresolved today in Port Harcourt, a city whose Igbo names were changed after the war, creating “Rumu” from “Umu.” Nigerian soldiers carried out a horrendous massacre in Asaba, murdering the males in a town which is today still alive with painful memories. Some Igbo families are still waiting, half-hoping, that a lost son, a lost daughter, will come home.

All of these stories can sit alongside one another. The Nigerian stage is big enough. Chinua Achebe has told his story. This week, he turns 82. Long may he live.

Politics › Re: Ignorant APC Vice Prof. Osinbajo Does Not Know Gas by laudate:
ogb5:
2. Technically you can not supply a power plant like the one in Lagos with gas using trucks. This simply mean the professor and those formulating his policy on power generation knows nothing about power generation. The Lagos plant uses natural gas, that is another theme for methane gas. Industrially methane has 2 means of being transported, by pipelines when the point of use is less than 5,000 km and as liquefied natural gas by ships followed by re gasification when the point of use is more than 5, 000 km from the point of production.
Yes, you can. There is no natural gas pipeline to Lagos Island. So how do you think they have been getting their steady supply of gas? Gas has been transported to them, especially the one on Marina, using trucks.

ogb5:
The gas supplied by trucks is liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used for domestic cooking. No country in the world bases her power generation on LPG. Moreover Nigeria does not have the facility to produce adequate LPG to cater for domestic cooking, so using LPG for power generation is out of the question. So Osinbajo promising to supply gas to power plants with trucks is simply talking about something that is not possible.
Both LPG and CNG can be transported, via trucks. The only difference is that these trucks carrying CNG are designed differently from those carrying LPG. You also need to put in place 'mother & daughter' stations along the logistics chain, for delivery of CNG.

LPG is also delivered at a level of pressure, different from the gas carried by CNG trucks. Both types of gas have different specs and properties. undecided

Gas Turbines powered by LPG also exist, and have been used to deploy power to small communities in countries like Turkey, USA etc. The only thing is that the LPG gas must have a higher proportion of Propane, than Butane. sad

In Nigeria, our LPG gas has a much higher content of butane, because it is used for cooking. Propane is more inflammable and has a higher Wolbe index or latent energy. That is why it is favoured for LPG powered generating sets and turbines. Capstone is an American company that makes 1MW LPG propane-powered micro-turbines, that are modular and scalable. LPG is also much easier to store at a specified pressure, than natural gas. undecided

ogb5:
3. Osinbajo promised to model his modular power plants after the Lagos power plant. Simply put, the Lagos power plant is among the most expensive gas fired power plant in the world. The Ikeja modular power plant has an installed capacity of 10 megawatts and was built at a cost of 3.2 billion Naira. That was equivalent to about 2 billion usd per gigawatt of electricity. Globally the benchmark cost for gas fired power plants is 1 billion usd per gigawatt of electricity, the Ikeja plant cost twice the global benchmark for such plants. By planning to go with the Lagos model, Osinbajo is telling us the will deliver power at twice the global benchmark cost, and at a cost far higher than the current government is delivering power projects. Several gas fired power plants delivered by the current government in the last 4 yrs were delivered at less than 1 . 3 billion usd per gigawatt.

So Osinbajo has no clue about power generation, he is simply spooling out impossible promises to confuse the electorates. Worse part is that he is a pastor that is supposed to stand by the truth, how will he face God at the end of the day after telling blatant lies on the campaign trail.

http://www.punchng.com/news/apc-will-slash-tariffs-on-imported-cars-osinbajo/
True. The Lagos IPP power plants are too expensive, compared with similar ones set up in other parts of the world.

Now that Buhari is probing everybody and everything, such costs incurred in setting up these IPPs should be probed. wink

These Niger-Deltans have understood that they can't make any political achievement in Nigeria without the cooperation of other tribes, and wisely began to issue their supports and cooperation to the Buhari led government while the misguided Igbos are still enslaving themselves with baseless sentiments.

Believe it or not, political appointments are catalysed by intelligent lobbying and not unnecessary hatred. No smart politician will appoint his haters to sensitive positions. I will never blame Buhari if he fails to appoint any Igbo to key positions. I am proud of Niger-Deltans and they are already reaping the fruits of their wisdom. I don't expect Nigeria to suspend any cause they may have but I do expect a standing and binding agreement on the disengagement of the Igbos as Biafra. We still live in a civilised world. As for insults and burning of the Nigerian flag. This is the outward expression of the rejection of Nigeria by the Igbos and I might also add that it is their constitutional right of free speech and expression. Neither verbal insults or flag burning is a crime and if people don't like it, they should join the agitation for Biafra.
Standing and binding agreement, kwa?? With whom and from where, biko?? On whose terms, conditions and timeline??

So after your people have burnt the Nigerian flag and expressed their rejection of Nigeria, using highly uncomplimentary, insulting terms, they still expect to sit at a negotiating table with authorities of the same country whose flag they have burnt, whose people they have denigrated using inflammatory speeches, and create a 'standing and binding agreement'?? shocked huh I laugh.... in Greek! grin

All your actions and language, are the kind that give rise to hostilities and war. Not to a standing agreement.

We Igbos are currently building that awareness and support. We are definitely considering how the Jews reclaimed their homeland. Igbos are unpopular and disliked in Nigeria? Tell me something new. Igbos have the benefit of hindsight and the history of how they have been massacred in 1945, 1952,1966 etc to know the sentiments of others towards us. Not that it matters because we are confident that this "British scam" created by the British con artist Lugard, which some of you refer to as "Nigeria" is about to come to an inglorious end
Yes, you Igbo are currently building support .... where, biko nu? In Mars?? shocked shocked You are definitely not building that support among non-Igbo Nigerians, within Nigeria or outside it. You are just alienating them, with your insults, vitriol and hate. The word 'mutual respect,' does not exist in your dictionary. undecided Last time I checked, the Jews did not attract support for their cause, using venom and hatred.

You are also attracting disdain for your cause, with the way the Igbo play the blame game, at every turn. You guys should do yourselves a favour. Renounce your Nigerian citizenships. Burn your passports, and become stateless. Maybe the international community you are relying upon to make a case for your cause, will come to your rescue , quicker. Who knows?! shocked

The sentiments that others have towards you was borne out of your attitude towards them. To the rest of us, Nigeria is our home no matter how much you denigrate it. Whatever name you call Lugard does not change the fact that he (and I guess, Flora Shaw by extension) gave our nation the name 'Nigeria,'and till today, it still remains our homeland. sad

All the uncouth language in the world emanating from your brethren, will not change the fact that God has a purpose for every nation, including Nigeria. May His mercies continue to flourish upon our land forever more. undecided

Hannatu's parents waited 13 years for a child before going the IVF route.

"God has a big hand in this. God was behind me. I want God to use me get more children. I am hoping that through me God will make people see the value of having children. I will specialize in genealogy and obstetrics. I barely made it beyond the cut off mark. God helped me. I am going to try my best and make everyone proud. I am studying medicine because I want to be a doctor. I want to study it because I want God to use me to help families who suffered what my parents went through,” she said

No. She was not the first IVF baby born in Nigeria. One had been born a few years earlier through the combined efforts of Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie and Prof. Ashiru in LUTH, Lagos.

1st Test Tube Baby in Black Africa is now 26 years old.

On March 17, 1989 history was made at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital when the first test tube Baby in Black Africa (comprising of West, East and Central Africa), conceived through the delicate In-Vitro Fertilisation and Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) method was born.

The bouncing baby boy named, Olushina, Eghosa, Oluwaremilekun, is nature’s gift to the family of Mr & Mrs Pius Oni and the crowning glory of five years of painstaking research endeavours of Professors Osato Giwa-Osagie, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist and Oladapo Ashiru, an Endocrinologist, both of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH Idiaraba, Surulere, Lagos

The lad then, thus, became the First TestTube Baby in East, West and Central Africa.
