Yes, u made sense, but I still reiterate dat tribea shud marry deir tribes. Its biblical and I know of cases wia it wrecked a lot of havoc, Peace.
And I have explained why such biblical reasons no longer apply to people who have given their lives to the Lord Jesus, as the fear of idolatry or pollution of religion which formed the grounds for such conditions in the first place, would no longer apply!! shocked

Just dat?? Y did Abraham insist on Isaac marrying from deir tribe? Y did Samson's parents refuse him marryin from anoda tribe? Dis tin is biblical o! Marry from your tribe. SIMPLE!!!
Nobody is saying you should not marry from your tribe. All that is being said is that if you know you have no intention of marrying from outside your tribe, then DO NOT date anyone from outside your tribe, or lead them on to think you have good intentions of building a future together, only to turn round stylishly to dump them with some silly excuse or on some irrational pretext! angry when in actual fact, the tribal difference is the reason you back pedalled!

Read Ishilove's post. It makes a lot of sense. cool

Also, for thise who keep citing Biblical pieces to justify their position, then please note that there are still Jews that married outside their race. e.g. Joseph who married an Egyptian princess, and Boaz that married Ruth, who was from Moab. And all those Biblical conditions existed in the old testament. Those conditions were given to prevent the non-believers from polluting the faith & religion of the Israelites.

In the new testament, those who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and His work on the cross for their salvation have all become children of God by faith. So, those distinctions about not marrying from other tribes in order not to pollute their religion, would not exist.

Hope this clarifies the issue! shocked

Even when husbands and wives come from the same hamlet, they fight themselves. So is that anything newhuh

Apart from that, there is only 1 recorded account of a disagreement between them in the bible. It had to do with the circumcision of their son, i believe.

Question: Why do Igbos Especially the Anambrarians(not Anambrans) marry from their tribe?

Answer 1: Our women fine die. And they have a tasty fashion sense.

Answer 2: No tribe can cook, ofe akwu, ofe egusi, ofe nsala, ofe oha, ofe onugbu, ona, ngwongwo, nkwobi, ugba, pass our women.

Answer 3: we want the maternal grandma of our children to live nearby for easy omugwo.

Answer 4: we want to speak Igbo well without annoying anyone.

Answer 5: we value marriage a lot, some tribes don't share our marriage views.

Answer 6: we go and solve scarcity of husband problem in another tribe who will come and solve for us.

Answer 7: in fact we are seriously obsessed with ourselves.

Answer 8: we want our values, virtues and ideologies to remain intact.

Captain Tolulope Ita, is a 37 years old lady from Ogun State married to an Akwa Ibom State man. They have a family of seven. She schooled in Lagos & attended Igbobi Girls High School and later proceeded to the University of Ilorin, where she got a degree in Computer Science after which she proceeded to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria for flying courses and graduated as a pilot and started working with Aero Contractors.

While in Aero, she did her Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) in the United States; that is a prequalification before becoming a captain and it costs a lot of money; between $5,000 and $10,000. And also did some training in auditing as well as a course in Flight Operations Management and she is presently the Fleet Manager of the Dash-8 aircraft in Aero Contractors.

Imoleayo Adebule is one of Nigeria’s youngest female pilots. Intelligent, daring, and confident are three words that best describe the tenacity with which she passed through one of the most complex schools in the world – Flying School, to obtain her license as a Commercial Pilot.

Imoleayo has excelled in a profession that is not only averse to people of her gender, but quite difficult even to people of the opposite sex. Having graduated at the top of her class at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Kaduna, she now works with Aero Contractors where she is making giant strides

Before her winging on Friday, 27th of April, 2012, she and other pilot officers (she was the only female) went for 12 months intensive flight training in various nations of the world -United States, Greece, Belarus, United Kingdom, Pakistan and Egypt. The Federal Government spent billions of naira on the training as $650,000 was spent on each trainee. The team came up with 14, well-trained fighter jet pilots. She enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force in July 2011 and was commissioned on the 9th of December, 2011. After her commissioning, she was nominated for the 2012 THISDAY Award for Excellence.

Judges 14:3 ►

New International Version
His father and mother replied, "Isn't there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people? Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me. She's the right one for me."

Numbers 36:3 ►

New Living Translation
But if they marry men from another tribe, their grants of land will go with them to the tribe into which they marry. In this way, the total area of our tribal land will be reduced.
The first comment you quoted came from Samson's parents, and not from the Lord God. There are other instances of Israelites who married women from other tribes and yet their hearts were not turned away from God. e.g. Joseph who married an Egyptian, Moses who married a Midianite, Boaz who married Ruth a Moabitess etc.

Solomon's case was a rather strange one, as his folly lay in marrying multiple wives rather because he could not be content with one.

I asked you a question earlier which you have coveniently ignored: " In this day and age, a lot of people from other tribes are Christians who have given their lives to Christ, and have been washed by His blood through faith in His name. undecided
Does the fact that they are not Igbos mean they are still 'idol worshipers?' shocked

Didn't Joseph the son of Isaac, marry an Egyptian? So please stop using Samson as an excuse. Even in the lineage of our Lord Jesus, Ruth his great grandmother was a Moabitess, and not an Israelite. Rahab the former harlot who helped the Israelites gain entry into the city of Jericho ended up being one of the ancestors of Jesus. She came from which tribe? huh"

The point is - there's no norm in igboland as regards ethnic preferences in choosing a spouse unlike it obtains in other places.
Various Igbos in the thread have given examples of their relatives who married from other tribes and nationalities, that gives credibility to my assertion that we're the least likely to marry someone of the same tribe when compared to the other two major tribes.

If you check the rates and statistics of Nigerians in inter-racial marriages, you'll find out that majority of them are Igbos.

More and more Igbos will continue to marry people of other tribes.
Majority of Igbos don't stay in the east, they only come rarely during festive seasons. This means many igbo children will continue to be born and bred outside the south east, which means the possibility of them (these children) getting married to a fellow Igbo is very slim. Also remember that Igbos are not too protective of their culture and traditions like the yoruba's and hausas.
You rarely see an igbo person born and bred outside igboland speaking Igbo or even wanting to identify with their being Igbo. I've seen many Igbo people say they can't or won't marry an Igbo person (mostly females) for reasons best known to them but you'll rarely see a yoruba/hausa person say he/she can't marry a yoruba/hausa.

Due to these trends peculiar to the igbos, (migration, cultural independence and education) many igbos won't end up marrying a fellow igbo in the nearest future. Igbo to Igbo marriages will reduce drastically.

Anybody who doesn't acknowledge this is lying to himself
You said "there's no norm in igboland as regards ethnic preferences in choosing a spouse unlike it obtains in other places. " I beg to disagree. sad

Just as you have a few Igbo people citing examples of inter-ethnic marriages within their family, you also have several Igbo folks that have stated they would not marry outside their tribe. And they have given reasons to substantiate this, even within this thread. e.g. from certain expectations given their position as the first son, to so-called 'biblical' reasons etc. In many cases, you would find the latter set of people who prefer not to marry from other ethnic groups, are more than the former.

Unless you have not resided in the South-east for a long time, then you would be familiar with folks especially from towns like Nnewi etc., who make it clear that they prefer to marry within their enclave as a norm.

If Abraham never married the Egyptians then boko haram and isis will never exist. Sarah was a fellow Israelite.

Inter-tribal marriage is not endorsed by God. I don't even want to start with Samson and Delilah. Solomon and how his foreign wife's turned him away from God to idols.
Stop being so melodramatic. In this day and age, a lot of people from other tribes are Christians who have given their lives to Christ, and have been washed by His blood through faith in His name.

She came from which tribe? huh

God did not endorse marriage with 'idol worshipers', but He was not against other tribes. Was He not the one who created those other tribes or were they created by the devil?

Free your mind, please! angry

Must every relationship lead to marriage?

Samson in the bible, do u remember him?
He left the Hebrew for a philistine and that was the beginning of his end.
It's always good to know the family background of who u wanna marry, not every body u see in church or on the street is worth keeping at home.
Some re just not even good enough to see ur home, a short time in a hotel would do.
Phew!!!
Moses married an Ethiopian woman in the Bible, yet he still spoke to God one on one, and received the 10 commandments from His hand.
