bemeruca: We are waiting for Saturday when Biden will fake assassination attempt just to cancel out the new voters trump just secured.
Some people want us to believe that indictment can make Trump more popular with voters but not an attempt by a lib to assassinate him. Trump 2024. I wish I could vote. They're desperados... Nobody votes for president based on VP in 2024. Muh delectability...

LordAdam16: You're making my point for me. If you're going to eat a frog, eat a big one. If you're going to cheat, best be with a model.
It's politics. I get it. Everyone is in it to win. So why not Haley? Haley is a slam dunk. Whatever the argument is about the viability of Vance, Haley is a far more logical pick.
You can't use Neocon as a negative epithet when Vance is a Yale Venture Capitalist.

Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Laurene: 11:16pm On Jul 15, 2024 |
LordAdam16: You should look up the result sheet of his Senate election. He won by 6 points. In solid-red, double-digit Ohio. Anywhere else in the Midwest and he'd have lost. He had to win that by 12+ points to create the impression that he has independent star power or favorability in the Rust Belt. That's not what happened. He ain't hitting a home run in Michigan and Wisconsin. This forced Rust Belt connection is tenuous at best.
The hype about Hillbilly Elegy was feverish at the time he was calling Trump Hitler and a rapist. Pence is yet to vilify Trump to the same degree that Vance has done in the past. I will not defend a redneck Obrigardo who changed his tone the minute it became politically expedient. You can appoint turncoats to agencies, you don't anoint them as Heir Apparent. How can you skip over day one loyalists like Carson and Sanders for a Peter-Thiel-Yale groupie.
That's why I said he may well have picked Nikki. Because Haley has more electoral value in her pinky finger than Vance has in his entire constitution. If winning is the primary consideration, you don't skip Nikki, Tulsi, Stefanik, and Rubio for Vance.
I don't buy that Vance is a changed person. I think he is an opportunist. And if he can change his mind about Trump being Hitler, he sure as hell can change it right back when it suits him. No different from the Mattis, Pompeo, Barr, and all the back-stabbing, smooth-talking, grimy a*holes before him.
And let's not pretend that a ticket with two white males is not tone-deaf. It may help a little that his wife is Asian. But the VP had to be a minority and/or female. Vance is Oz 2.0. And if Biden hadn't folded like a cheap suit during the debate and July 13 hadn't happened; this pick would have been tantamount to self-sabotage.
Lastly, something needs to be done about the Republican Party in the Midwest. It's so hollow.
-Lord Bush won Ohio by 2 points in 2004 while the senate candidate won by 27 points. Tim Ryan is a seasoned career politician, incumbent congressman and the second strongest candidate in Ohio that ran as an actual moderate in a year that republicans were put in the bullseye on abortion. He may not add much to the ticket but he creates a great contrast to Trump's age factor and is a heir to the ticket in 2028 which is better than throwing it open by then... He also insures that populism doesn't die after Trump Kamala Harris called Biden racist and said she actually believed her accuser in Tara Reade yet Biden chose her as running mate. Most on the list are all opportunitists and potential backstabbers (perhaps except for Carson)... Who should Trump have chosen instead? Kamala Harris is an Californian extremist and a weirdo but it didn't matter. Voters view Biden unfavorable and this election would continue to be about his age and policies and not Vance's regardless. Vance actually won a real race while Oz lost (though I don't blame for it at all) though the dynamics is different. The downballot candidates opponents were meh and literally unknown and underfunded but the senate was top tier and heavily funded... So don't compare Vance with Oz. Vance is an actual Ohioan and not some carpetbagger from New Jersey. With this the deep state wouldn't want Vance in power and that assassination insurance I love the ticket! Such a masterclass by Trump! |

Biden has memory loss issues but his team can actually manage that. Institutions in America can still work very well despite his memory loss issues.
Trump is chaos. He will turn the institutions upside down. And you're in Nigeria getting worried about America... Think about your next meal |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Laurene: 9:30pm On Jul 15, 2024 |
Mintum: JD Vance is a good choice, better than burgum and less of an establishment politician than Rubio. However my preferred VP choice was Dr Ben Carson followed by Vivek Ramaswamy. Any way, congrats to JD Vance the incoming vice President of the United States of America. Carson was also my choice but I guess it's due to his age. Carson is in his mid 70s so both senior citizens in same ticket would be bad especially since voters are mostly against Biden because he's too old |

bemeruca: We will have a coon, uncle tom for VP.
We have the first black president and his black coon VP JD Vance!! Vance is a good pick... Would win younger voters and also has rust belt appeal and the best part... He's assassination-proof for Trump. I'm sure Trump made he's reassessment after they tried to kill him. Choose a neocon and they poison/take Trump out for he/she to take over and further their globalist agenda. |

Pennsylvania is a closed primary state.
157,000 voted for Haley, many of whom were democrats who registered as Republicans to be able to vote Haley.
-Lord Open not closed |
Foreign Affairs › Re: American Politics Thread: Trump Is The 47th President! by Laurene: 6:01pm On Jul 14, 2024 |
raumdeuter: It depends on whether a state is open or closed primary
We have always known Democrats who register as Republicans to vote in Republican primaries to try and get an easier opponents
It was common for many Democrats, A lot of "Haley voters" were actual Democrats who didnt want Trump Pennsylvania is an open primary state so he's definitely a leftist that registered as a republican to vote for Doug Mastriano in order to get an easier opponent. |

givedemwotowoto: Trump himself has been donating to both democrats and republicans before running for office
People donate to whoever they want all the time.
The boy registered as a Republican shortly after graduating from high school 2 years ago Trump last donated to Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2008 when he was still a democrat... There's was this recent trick by Dems to register as Republicans to vote for the weaker candidate in primaries. And also to blow up the whole primary and cause havoc we saw it with Nikki Haley this cycle. The assassin guy didn't donate directly to the candidate or PAC he donated to the leftist engine Actblue. Registrations doesn't necessarily depict ideology especially in a country It's easy to switch like America. Lots of registered democrats in Kentucky and Louisiana only vote Republicans till this day (check party registration of those states in Wikipedia)...So don't try to justify this act by saying he's a republican. You can't just twist that he's a registered Republican therefore he's a Trump supporter. |

givedemwotowoto: I heard he was a registered Republican too
Taking a shot at a presidential candidate? Why should someone capable of this be able to own a gun?
Hopefully they find his motivation Party registration doesn't mean ideology... He donated to the democrats. He only switched to republican to vote in the primaries |

wirinet: Even though I doubted the assassination when the news first broke, I rushed to make my doubts known. I don't Trust anything coming from Trump. With more information coming out, I then lean toward believing it was an actual assassination attempt. I recant my initial stance and admitted my error. But there is now the nagging question of fatal failures on the part of the Police and secret service. Why did the US security services fail so woefully? Was in deliberate or a failure. In todays America, is it so easy to shoot a presidential candidate or any other high profile politician? We await the full investigations.
I have hated Trump since the 1990s. I was introduced to Trump around 1995 by a very good friend. Even then my friend idolised Donald Trump. He gave me his book "the art of the deal" to read. I disagreed with his business philosophy. I followed him from that time till he ran for president. I even followed his then wife, late Ivanna Trump. She said some bad things about Trump and their marriage. Trump personality, morals and philosophies are opposite to mine.
About hating Republicans, I was a fan of Ronald Reagan. I believe he espoused republican values than any republican alive today including Trump. Trump's platform is mostly similar to Ronald Reagan except some aspects of foreign policies... Reagan's pro intervention-kinda soft globalist ( but not so war-hawkish) while Trump is a non-interventionist (nationalist). That was his contrast from Bush Snr who challenged him for the nomination then m Trump got his MAGA slogan from Reagan's campaign back in 80. Your parents would definitely be pro-republican values if they're conservative (most old fashioned Africans are btw) |

Right from Bill Clinton and b4 the Democrats had better presidents and policies up until Obama. Republicans has better pro family/business/economic policies since Lincoln, Reagan to Trump |
