frijos:The artistes need the radio stations more than the radio stations need them. You'll find that the artistes will be the ones who will go and offer the stations their works and waive their rights to royalties. If their songs are not played on radio, no one will hear their music and no one will invite them for shows (which is where they make their money really). If they do a cost benefit analysis, they'll know which side their bread is buttered. |
twinstaiye:Lol. Thanks for the vote of confidence, but i think i'll pass. I'm sure there is an age limit for being a housemate on Big Brother and unless it is seventy years then i'm very sure i'm past the limit already. Seriously though, the rules do not prescribe equal punishment for physical violence and verbal violence. The rules pertaining to verbal violence provide that the housemate will be asked by Big Brother to modify his or her speech and only when the person fails, refuses or neglects to do so will they be evicted. To use a soccer analogy, physical violence is a straight red card, while verbal violence requires two yellow cards (which is equal to a red card) before expulsion. My seeming rigidity for the application of rules comes from a deep respect for the law, but it would appear to be misplaced here in Naija. You know what they say, 'it is unlawful to be lawful in a lawless society.' ![]() |
kaydee:@Kaydee No matter the aggravation, you never, ever hit a woman. To be sure, there are millions of reasons to hit a woman, but none of them is good enough for a real man. If a man bloodied your mouth and came back crying, i wonder how forgiving you'd be? Leniency for women bashers often leads to grievous bodily harm and sometimes death. Make no mistake about it, if a guy hits you once, he'll hit you again and again. Best to sharply nip it in the bud with a clear unequivocal lesson. I say again, good riddance to bad rubbish. |
Not sure if we all watched the same video of the brawl. How come everyone now says that Hannington made a mistake? A mistake is when you do something you didn't intend to do. Hannington raving and get all up in a woman's face and bloodying her mouth was a mistake? A mistake that went on for nearly three minutes? Please, a mistake is something that is beyond your control. That situation was definitely not outside Hannington's control. If he cannot control his temper, that is not a mistake, it is a failing for which he should take full responsibility. I am not afraid to take responsibility for any mistakes i make as well as for my failings and i will take my punishment like a man. So there. |
Good riddance to bad rubbish. I will not for the sake of entertainment or because of a strategic advantage condone what is wrong. Hannington's crassness deserved the full weight of the law. It would have set a terrible precedent if he had not been expelled. I know it spells trouble for the MNC but what is wrong is wrong. Those saying this decision is f.cked up, the actual f.ck up was in allowing Hannington back into the barn after he was called into the Diary Room immediately after the fight. This decision should have been made swiftly and firmly as an example that Biggie takes its rules seriously and to preserve the 'safe' environment that the housemates were guaranteed upon entering the house. Crying crocodile tears and saying 'it takes a bigger man to apologise, ' No Hannington, it takes a bigger man to never hit a woman no matter the aggravation she gives you. Now i wonder why there is no emoticon for 'dancing on the rooftops wild with joy.' |
^^^ Seconded!!! |
montelik:Lol. this has nothing on the firestorm of legal analysis that followed Richard and ofunneka's 'fingergate' scandal. akinsadeez:A strict liability crime is one that does not require an intent to break the law. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you meant to break the law or not, you can still be convicted of the crime. With statutory despoil it doesn’t matter if you didn’t know that the victim was a minor, it only matters that she was, even if she told you that she wasn't. |
Rheinmetal:I hear you, but Biggie then needs to come out and say that the rules have changed and that is why Hannington has not been evicted. People like me were expecting a swift application of Rule 15, but if he decided that this was a fine time to tweak the rules, it behoves him to let us know, wouldn't you think? dehning:Meryl did not touch Kaone, did she? despoil. is a strict liability offence if the victim is underage or otherwise incapable of giving consent, e.g if she is drunk. |
All i'm saying is that if the rule says that violent housemates be removed immediately, then there is absolutely no need for the equivocating we're seeing from Big Brother now. Precedents are a dangerous thing indeed. Now it is on record that violence occurred in the Big Brother House and the violent housemate was molly-coddled with psychologists and stuff; that precedent effectively weakens the rule on violence, because the next time Big Brother will attempt to apply the letter of the law regarding violence it will be seen as discrimination because after all, Hannington became violent and wasn't evicted. So if the rule is not to be applied strictly then provisos must be made to give room for justification. That's all i'm saying. And yes Oga Twinstaiye, the same rules apply in the house and in the barn. If we are being truthful there was at least one move that qualifies as a punch in that video. I have never seen anyone get a bloody mouth from being pushed. Have you? |
In law, there are certain things called 'Strict Liability' offences. These are offences for which one is liable no matter the justification that may exist for it or the mistake of fact that the offender may have been labouring under. Two illustrations: If you are driving and run into the car in front of you, you are liable not matter how irresponsibly the person in front of you was driving. Or if you have consensual sex with a well developed fifteen year old girl who you thought was nineteen, you are liable for rape (Statutory Rape), or if you have sex with a drunk woman who seemed like she was enjoying it at the time but decides to press charges against you for rape; once she can prove that she was drunk at the time, you're liable for rape because she lacked the ability to consent to intercourse by reason of her drunkenness. You are not allowed to argue otherwise. Yeah, i know, the law is an a.s.s. and that is an insult to the animal. The point i am trying to make with this long-winded foreground is that the Big Brother rules on violence are crystal clear and from the way rule 15 which deals with violence is couched, it assumes violence in the house to be a strict liability offence. That rule states that Violence in the house is absolutely prohibited and any housemate who becomes physically violent towards another housemate will be removed immediately. I do not remember seeing any provisos that state that psychologists will be brought in to help housemates deal with the trauma of watching housemates punching each other up. Now except we can somehow manage to define the brawl in the barn as stopping just short of physical violence, then Hannington has no business still being on this show. The moment he was called into the Diary Room after the fight should have been the last time we should have had to endure the trauma of looking upon the vermin that is Hannington. But he is still here, so i guess Big Brother has managed to define the incident as stopping short of physical violence; and watching that video again i find that absolutely laughable. But what i find to be no laughing matter is the fact that folks on this thread are citing provocation as justification for Hannington bloodying Lerato's mouth. That, i am certainly not laughing about. |

Well, i'm not going to hide the fact that i actually prefer MI to Modey. They are both tight rappers that's for sure, but MI's lines have managed to get the loudest exclamations out of me perhaps because of the way he delivers them. I heard one a couple of days ago while stuck in traffic and i yelled my head off. Other folks thought the traffic had gotten to me, but i didn't care really. The line was pure fire. I'm a barren avocado tree, no pear (peer). Check out MI's verse on DJ Neptune's 123 remix. It was pure murder on the mic. And he completely killed the attitude on the video. Then i heard a line i thought was really deep on his 'Hustle Remix' with SAS hustle is the code, its the heat, its the burning its the street, its your feet, its the yearning cos that ish'll make a man out of vermin Can you imagine the depth of thinking required to think up a situation where something can make a rat into a man? That line totally bowled me over when i thought about it. If i had to call it between them, i'd hand it to MI by the slimmest of margins. But that's just me. |

stankayy:Regarding the bold statement, how does Uti throwing Jen to the lions in the first place make Moz feel all warm and fuzzy towards us whether we vote for her or not? They will feel that putting her up against Munya given his 'track record' denied her a fighting chance of surviving. They would have preferred if Kaone was up against Jen. But i have to agree that it is is quite a good move but it could backfire if Jen is evicted and Moz considers that Uti sacrificed their girl and we could lose their vote. But who knows, Jen may pull a surprise and send Munya to the barn yet. As for Kaone, hope he continues to act the fool until nominations come around next week. |
What killed Munya? Pls people, yarn, am stuck in the office. |
mumagee:@mumagee: Na wa o. Na work no gree person see road o. But its been a rollicking ride reading up on the last fifty pages (though i watch religiously when i get home) and i got to know so many things i missed out on. You guys are doing great. |
WTF is going on here? I leave for, well, like fifty pages, and i come back to find eveyone saying Uti cannot win? I don't get it. Uti may be brash and loud mouthed and may grate on your very last nerve, but who do you look forward to seeing on your screen the most? Simple question folks, vote for your answer, and believe that he can win. |
