lysaa:
Morris is HOH. . This is interesting.
@Lysaa
This presents a very teasing possibility for next week's evictions. I see TK and Mimi on the slab (if uti survives on sunday and he uses his head when nominating). but i hope with all my heart that Munya will be the one to take the walk. I just cannot bear to see uti leave the house before Mimi. She will so gloat.

Miss know all actually thought she was put up for eviction and had the gall to say she would definitely survive it. She has such an exaggerated opinion of her popularity. I can't wait for her to be nominated.
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 12:20pm On Sep 29, 2008
That had to have been the most unfair eviction in BB history. Just one nomination and Lucille was history. It was devious, but I loved it. Good riddance, and I’m only being polite by not adding the rest of that phrase. lipsrsealed

But the housemates expectedly took it quite hard. Uti and Ricco returned to the house and met a silence so complete and total that I had an insight into how quiet Hiroshima must have been the day after the nuclear bomb fell.

The question hung on every tongue but no one dared ask where the Namibian was. It was like a platoon returning from a mission with only half its men. There’s really no need to ask where the others are. The oppressive silence was only broken by Uti taking his frustration out on Big Brother’s furniture in part two of a largely misunderstood tantrum that began in the Glass House.

When Kabelo made the announcement that Lucille had been evicted, Uti flew into a rage ripping at the blinds in the glass house and pounding on the glass. I’m shocked the glass didn’t break and I’m sure Uti too was surprised because he struck that glass with intent to break it, but even repeated blows couldn’t crack it. Miss Know it All Mimi would later say that the glass house was bulletproof. And who are we to argue with that omniscient fount of knowledge.

That tantrum has been misconstrued and misinterpreted across Africa and Uti has only added to the confusion with his ‘official’ explanation. He said that Lucille was too vulnerable in that she was replaced by the HOH and didn’t see the possibility of her eviction coming. Okay Uti, is that the story you’re sticking to? Because some of us have been in that position and saw through you in an instant.

Have you ever been in love with someone secretly, or even not so secretly, and you’re just biding time waiting for all the gears to mesh correctly and present the perfect situation and circumstance for you to make your move? And then something happens and a major spanner is thrown into the works and your love interest has to leave town for good. While this may not necessarily trigger glass-pounding and furniture kicking in all individuals, it does leave you with a deep sense of loss and an acute memory of opportunities missed. This explains the age-long allure of time-travel. Oh, to be able to go back in time and take advantage of what, with hindsight, you now realize was the best opportunity you had. Uti’s outburst was borne out of frustration at his missed opportunities with Lucille particularly during the Classical Dance week. He failed to strike when the iron was hot and is frustrated with himself. He had hoped she would be around for longer and that the traffic around her would have subsided before he would make his move. At least, that’s what I think.

It was as though someone had died. Apart from Uti’s tantrum, it took eleven minutes and thirty two seconds for anyone to speak a coherent sentence and fittingly it was lap dog Munya with the words ‘it’s over, man.’ Not sure what he was referring to but it could have been his emotional roller coaster with Lucille as the Namibian put him through the wringer in her time in the house. So, relief for Munya who endured too long, loss for Uti who waited too long.

Mimi scared all the babies in Africa with her crying fit after the eviction. I have never seen anyone so ugly in my life, and I’m not even joking. Frodo apparently is a glutton for punishment. All the while he labored through life threatening hardship, dodging malevolent nazguul to get the Ring to Mordor when he could just have gone to Ghana and hired Mimi. As part of the Fellowship of the Ring all she would have needed to do was cry and all the Orcs and Uruk-Hai in Mordor would have run a country mile. She burst into tears presumably because of Lucille’s departure but I suspect it had as much to do with having to go another week with her tormentor-in-chief Uti still in the house as it had to do with the loss of a key element of her strategy. But the tears are not going to save her when she comes up for eviction. At this rate, even Ghana will vote her out.

The man of the moment is Takondwa and for about six hours last night if you had checked the dictionary for the meaning of ‘pariah’ you would have seen a small picture of Takondwa right next to the definition. Perhaps only the loneliness of the grave could have compared with the way he must have felt after the eviction. All the other housemates avoided/ignored him studiously and he had to retire early. If he wasn’t Head of House for this week, he would probably have had seven nominations tonight. But even being HOH he might still get nominated as housemates may want to find out if his sense of self-preservation is stronger than his sense of honour, as it is an unspoken belief in the house that replacing yourself is cowardly. But nominating him tonight will involve a rather large component of risk for the housemates as that could lead to another surprise exit. But as long as he replaces himself with Mimi, we’ll be cool. But he’s gone from being largely unnoticed to being the equivalent of an aircraft carrier on the housemates’ radar.

Meanwhile, he’s turning out to be the most incendiary Head of House ever. He’s instigating the housemates to go on strike because of an alcohol shortage and they are planning to begin tomorrow after their provisions for the week have been delivered. Dumbasses. Planning a strike before you’ve done your shopping. What were they thinking? Now Biggie knows all about the strike and can decide to stay one step ahead of them.

Munya seems to be the most affected by Lucille’s eviction. He told biggie he was sick and tired of staying in the house and his only reason for being there was gone. Hello? I thought his reason for being in the house was $100,000. Sorry, my mistake. He said he wanted to break everything in the house, mirrors, cameras, everything. All for a girl who said he had absolutely no chance with her, even outside the house. It’s a pity Munya cannot see beyond his nose. Careful what you wish for mumu, because you might get it.

Ricco. What is it about him? Every girl he gets interested in gets evicted. First Latoya, now Lucille. So it’s probably a good thing he’s getting closer to Mimi. He gave Hazel a massage over the weekend prompting rumours of his veering in the direction of the current hottest female housemate. This froze up Thami and Hazel’s budding relationship and they had been avoiding each other until this morning when they had their ‘make up’ talk. Hazel showed great maturity in initiating talks with the puerile Thami.

Nominations tonight will be a must watch. Uti will be nominated by Takondwa and Mimi for sure. But something tells me we could see an ‘Eviction Row’ virgin up for eviction tonight. I also suspect that would be Mimi and/or Hazel. But we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.

Peace out.

On paper the countries will probably vote like this

Lucille

Zambia (They will try to back their rep's play of replacing himself with Lucille)
Kenya (Lucille nominated Sheila who is supposedly her friend)
Nigeria (We think she's boring, plus trying to vote out Ricco just won't fly)

Uti
Ghana (Mimi's people will back her choice and vote out Uti rather than  Ricco because somewhere in their minds they are hoping for some romantic action between Ricco and Mimi. Eeeewwwww!!! Plus Lucille appears to be integral to Mimi's strategy so they won't vote her either.)
South Africa (Naija/SA beef is alive and well)
Angola (They won't vote out their rep's love interest, and of course they won't vote out their rep.)
Namibia (They will probably back Lucille's choice in nominating Uti as they won't want to evict her love interest)

Ricco
Tanzania (they are probably beefing Ricco for not saving Latoya when he was HOH)
Uganda (They are also beefing Ricco for snatching Latoya from their rep)
Zimbabwe (They are beefing Ricco for moving in on Lucille, their rep's love interest)
Botswana (Ricco nominated Tawana and that could get them riled up)

Don't know how Malawi and rest of africa will vote.

The prognosis is bad, though. But something tells me Lucille might be the one to leave. But let's support our boy Uti. he keeps the housemates and viewers entertained.

abeg send me a mail at lawyerchap007@yahoo.com. I have the information you need but them no wan let us talk biz here, grin

@Mantee,
Abeg no vex say we go offtopic. But bear in mind say you go buy your ticket to Zanzibar by yourself. wink

The rubbish dump was smoking yesterday with tawana and latoya giving us the best television yet on BBA3. Latoya is such a free spirit and she so understands the dynamics in the house. She should go back in the house because i think she will bring the most drama. She's already said she's hooking up with Munya as soon as she goes in the house. Tawana will just be another body in the house occupying space. I'm voting her out.

@Spora

Sorry the link wasn't helpful. What exactly is it that you want to do? If it is advertising, i work in a full service advertising agency and i'm sure if i knew the exact nature of what you needed to do, i'd be able to offer more helpful assistance. But as for Etisalat, they are handled by an agency called 141 Worldwide located in GRA Ikeja.

Mimi may stink and be the ugliest person Munya has ever seen up close, but that’s nothing compared to what she got up to on Saturday night. She showed herself as being as unattractive inside as she is on the outside. Whether as part of some warped and presently unclear strategy or from an innate need to cause trouble she cornered Lucille and told her that Ricco was madly in love with her and he had confided in her that he would do anything to win her heart.

Lucille rightly pointed out that Ricco is constantly doting on Latoya.   Listen to the black big bellied bitch pontificate: How ken Latoya be jamping fram man to man? But apparently it’s okay for  Ricco to jamp fram woman to woman, abi? She gets Lucille to go along with her plan, and I felt like I was in the Garden of Eden watching the serpent convince Eve to eat from the tree of good and evil and plunge mankind into eternal suffering.

Lucille gets top marks for gullibility considering the ease with which she agreed to be part of Mimi’s machinations. But perhaps that’s because she’s been secretly attracted to Ricco so she really didn’t need too much convincing. To be fair to her though, she was a passive player in the grand scheme and Mimi did all of the dirty work. Next the Ghanaian was off in search of Ricco to relate ‘Lucille’s love test’ to him. And before I could say TK they were all in bed together a la Richard, Tatiana and Ofunneka.

That left Latoya alone and forlorn. Until she spotted Munya, also alone and forlorn. but that is a story for another post. Gotta run.

@Spora1
Guy, sorry o. Work no let me see road. I had an article where the entire thing was broken down but i can't seem to find it now. However, do check out this link. I hope it helps. http://www.bmcommunications.com/int_ad.htm

Thanks for Lerato's take on the week. At least we have something to read. But Mimi at the top of her favourites list? That is just plain twisted. But then, it's Lerato, what else can we expect?

TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 10:43am On Sep 16, 2008
Well well, what a letdown. So much for cause and effect. I had been looking forward to watching the ripples caused by the housemates antics on Saturday night balloon into tidal waves in the Diary Room and sweep the most deserving onto Eviction Row. But Biggie had to be a wet blanket and kill our joy. Well, it’s his house. We’re just mere viewers. But it does make some sense. Otherwise how would the eviction for this week have been done? Now we’re going to be voting to evict one of the housemates in the Rubbish Dump. Meanwhile the remaining housemates think they are all up for eviction. Prepare for some grandstanding and damage control as the housemates are going to be on their best behavior this week.

Which is more than we can say for their behavior on Saturday night. Ever wonder why everything happens after Waxxy has been in the building? Two weekends ago it was Tawana and Takondwa’s tryst where a Mouth Gig occurred to the soundtracks of DJ Waxxy. This time again it started during the party on Saturday and it was Morris who set the tone for the night. In an agonizing display of how not to be a man, he went back to Latoya again to beg. He had done this earlier after their carnival task telling her stuff like I miss you yadda yadda yadda. At that point I thought, okay, he’s probably just trying to ease into the ‘friend zone.’ But on Saturday night it was straight out groveling. He actually wants Latoya back. Where are these people from? After babe don dey kiss person for your presence, you still dey go beg am?  Either Morris suffers from a severe testosterone deficiency or he has never heard of R.Kelly. Trust the vixen, she walked out on him, refusing to buy whatever he was selling.  Can somebody please tell the mutant cabbage Morris that when a woman’s mind’s made up there’s nothing you can do about it. Leave Latoya alone, she’s gone for good. Yeah, I know it’s hard when you didn’t hit that, but you’ve got to focus on the game. Kill the groveling, it’s so not Neanderthal.

Work is killing me right now so i'll be posting shorter posts on specific housemates antics on the night. Watch this space, folks. Next up: the resident evil - mimi of the potbelly.

There are certain things that occur in one’s lifetime that are of such magnitude, either by their unspeakable evil or their overwhelming congeniality, that they simply rob one of the ability to express one's self. In these situations words literally stand in your way. For instance, try to describe in words the extent of evil in the mind that conceived the 9/11 World Trade Centre  attacks, a dastardly malevolent machination that had the devil himself saying “Hell, why didn’t I think of that?” Or try to describe the group hysteria that seized our country when Kanu Nwankwo scored that ‘golden goal’ against Brazil in Atlanta twelve years ago. Words are hopelessly inadequate in such cases.

Now add a third indescribable situation: Saturday night in the Big Brother Africa House.  If you missed it, there are no words that can convey the atmosphere in which the events occurred. Solution: do not miss the Highlights during tomorrow's Nominations Show. Have been struggling to write a review of that phenomenal night without much success. The words just do not seem able to do justice to Morris and Munya's beggarly unmanliness, mimi's evil slithering from one housemate to the other, poisoning their souls with the virulent gunk from the depths of her unplumbed mind, Lucille's astounding idiocy in acting upon mimi's prompting, Ricco's about-face from Latoya to Lucille, Uti's berating of the other guys over alcohol, Latoya's getting a taste of her own medicine, (where's Beamer when you need him?)

There was just too much going on this past weekend and if we were to document it, it would probably take up a whole page by itself. But i'm thinking the Nominations tonight will put everything in perspective and give a clearer picture of the goings-on in the house. So let's wait for the nominations as then we'd have both the cause and effect and then we'll do a full review.

Tamps sweetie, sorry to make you drink your coffee without something to read. I'll make it up to you tomorrow. Promise.

@Klas
I'm sure there will be nominations on Monday or else it would give away the fact that there is a twist in the works. Possibly, what Biggie will do is take the person with the least number of votes this week and the person with the highest number to the Rubbish Dump. The person with the highest number of votes will be evicted for real at the end of the six days. Yes it does exempt the returnee from monday's nominations, but i guess its for the good of the game. Plus, in Season 2 the fake eviction could also have been said to be unfair as the real people with the highest nominations were not put up for eviction that week and were thus exempted from eviction for that week.

@Thabs, Coolkaboom et al,
Thanks for all the compliments. It's great to see you guys again. Had been wondering when you'd all show up.

Didn't get to see the task presentation as i was at work. But i learnt they had a blast and won the 100% wager. But our Uti let the team down by sleeping when Biggie said no one should sleep during the day. Everyone got on his case especially when Biggie announced that if anyone sleeps today while the sun is shining they would lose 50% of the wager they won. Uti responded by making an early night of it while Sheila, Mimi, Lucille and Hazel turned the stage in the garden to a nightclub, titillating the boys until they were slack-jawed with lust. They even got crybaby Munya to part with all his cigarettes while they took turns to dirty-dance his socks off. but trust Biggie, he only let us see the non-threatening stuff. For everything else, cut to long shot. At least there were no clocks this time. Even Tawana had a go at the tipsy Munya. But Lucille was definitely the sexiest of the bunch.

They spent the rest of the time recounting the first night in the house and their first impressions of one another. Lucille got truly animated with her descriptions of everyone, particularly Uti. E be like say that babe really like our lazy ass homeboy. she also told us that Munya kissed her on the first night when he thought she was sleeping. shocked Perv!!

I hope Uti doesn't fall asleep today or else he'll be up for eviction next week, guaranteed.

Nnekie:
I smell a war brewing and it is between Munya and Uti, this Lucille thing is going too far.  And peeps will probably take Munya's side, cause lets face it Uti don't give a damn
@Nnekie
Is Lucille back with Munya? Last i knew they weren't supposed to be speaking to one another. I don't think they're sharing a bed anymore though i couldn't watch until they went to sleep last night. That probably explains why they are not partners in this dance task. Munya paired up with Mimi while Lucille is with Uti. I don't know if anything has changed in the cold war, but if not, then i say she's fair game and Uti can go right ahead to drop his lyrics if he is so inclined. Actually, Uti has confessed that he feels very deeply for Lucille, so it may not be exactly accurate to say he doesn't give a damn. He is definitely attracted to her for sure.

@Salsera
Haven't met the celebrity yet o. Am seriously looking forward to it sha. Who's met her? wink
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 10:30am On Sep 10, 2008
@Uchetobi,
Our celebrity, good to see you, and thanks. Hope you will follow us to zanzibar this time around. At least there will not be paparazzi to disturb you. grin grin

@Spora
Ah, the great man is back! Great to have you with us again. you're the best stress reliever i have come across in a very long time and i'm sure we can count on you in this regard when the tension gets high. wink wink

Regarding your request for a yahoo display ad, i know it costs about $5000 for about 300000 views or something like that, but i'll find out for you sha and let you know.

@Nnekie
I think there could be something between Uti and lucille. You know how when a chick thinks a guy like totally dislikes her and then finds out that the opposite is actually the case, she is usually very receptive to him. Uti has made it known that he really likes Lucille, and in that house word gets around quicker than a $2 hooker so i'm sure she knows how he feels. And uti is a hunk, and loud to boot. I think he is exactly the kind of guy the quiet lucille would be attracted to. And the current task of the classical dances (rumba, chacha and tango) has given them a lot of time together. They do seem very romantic during their rehearsals. We'll have to watch and see.

@RSA
Thanks man. anything from Lerato yet?

@Seun001
That paint romance last night was smoking hot. But i doubt that Latoya expects Ricco to have saved her. The dynamics in this house are so different from the BBA2 house. in that house there was obvious beef and so there were no qualms in saving your pal and replacing with your enemy. In this house they are all still chums and the first Head of House to exercise this power will probably be evicted the following week.
But Latoya and Ricco's romance is blazing hot. I doubt Africa will evict Latoya just yet. But you know, Biggie is devious and could remove Latoya from the picture to see how Ricco will behave. Most likely he could make a beeline for Lucille only for Biggie to reintroduce Latoya the following week. Sheer drama, trust me.

@Tampico
LCDhuh shocked shocked Nooo! If my name must change, it can only change to Bluray, for the clearest picture ever wink. nice one though!! LCD!

@Salsera
Better go renew your subscription o. You know how work de be sometimes. I fit no get time everytime o. but i catch that kiss sha. (hoping Ndi doesn't get to read this. But where is she sef?)
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 9:43am On Sep 09, 2008
Okay, last night’s nominations show was a definite blockbuster. We had everything going on in that diary room; from sneaky snipes to vengeful vendettas to a weeping Head of House. That was so not gangsta.

Ah, nominations are such an opportunity for the housemates to let rip at those who’ve been rubbing them the wrong way and they always masquerade their vindictive choices as being ‘so very difficult to choose.’ Yesterday’s nominations were so comical, with the housemates giving ridiculous reasons for their choices when the real reasons were as clear as day. So in case you were born yesterday and missed the undertones that influenced the nominations, let me run them through for you.

Sheila nominated Morris and Tawana. She gave her reasons as follows: I still think Morris doesn’t quite belong in this group. He doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the housemates. Tawana lost it and threw something at Thami, I think she’s too temperamental.

Real reason: Bleep! Morris was told who and who nominated him. That means he will nominate me for sure. Bleep men. I have to nominate him again as well. And that baldheaded eagle Tawana, I was busy dancing to Waxxy’s beats and she was busy snogging my man under the sheets in their own private party? Bleep da bitch. I’m so nominating her.

Lucille nominated Tawana and Latoya saying Tawana is constantly complaining and seems like she wants to be out of the house. As for Latoya, the Namibian thinks the sexy Tanzanian doesn’t seem to want to be in the house .
Real reason: damn! Tawana wants my man Munya. Got to get her out of this house fast. Damn! I want Latoya’s man Ricco. Got to get her out of this house fast.

Munya nominated Hazel and Latoya because according to him, he doesn’t speak to them much and has failed to connect with them on any level of significance.
Real reason: You know braa, I’m feeling really stupid and I think I’m coming down with a severe case of cabin fever so I’m going to shoot myself in the foot with my first nomination. I’ll nominate Hazel who is like really the sweetest housemate who doesn’t annoy anyone and who seems to get along with everyone else but me. So she hasn’t noticed me? She’s feeling too fine with herself and thinks she’s too much to talk to me, no?  And then I’ll shoot myself in the head with my second nomination. I’ll nominate Latoya who is suddenly back with Ricco taking his attention away from me and my darling Lucille who I suspect has a soft spot for the Angolan. If Latoya gets evicted Ricco will probably be forced to try and get between me and Lucille, but I’m too stupid to take that into account. Yes Biggie, that is my final answer: Hazel and Latoya.

Mimi nominated our homeboy Uti and the Masai(sorry Beamer) girl Sheila. She says Uti is too lazy while also being authoritative while Sheila is too lazy while always wanting her decision to be final.
Real reason: Dis Uti dey craze o. See how he take me do nansense lest seturday, calling me loki. Since he knows am ah local girl can’t he keep it to himself? Why daz he have ta say it in frant af everybady like det? And det Sheila, I told hair in secret det I liked Morris and she cam and bradcasted it fa all deh housemates. I’m going ta show hair det am fram Ghana.

Latoya nominated Sheila and Tawana. According to her, Sheila is too much and she thinks she is the Queen of Zamunda or something and feels she can just order people around the way she likes. As for Tawana, Latoya believes she is in the wrong place and has shown repeatedly that she doesn’t want to be in the house anymore.
Real reason: There are two Alpha females in this house and that is so not cool. I thought I would be the only one to wow the guys and the viewers with my bra-assisted cleavage and my jeans-encased cellulite laden hips; but here comes Sheila with her gutter-mouth and that fabulous figure. She’s stealing my shine and I can’t have that. The bitch gotta go. As for Tawana, that bitch was just getting all up in my business when I was with that sorry ass Morris, cuddling my man and sleeping in his bed while I was sleeping in Ricco’s bed? What the flip? She just don’t get it. You cannot mess with my man, even if I no longer want him.

Hazel nominated Munya and Mimi because there have been cases of alcohol being stolen from the general supply and Munya is one of the culprits. As for Mimi, Hazel thinks the shapeless Ghanaian is taking the game too personal. After all, she refused to put on a dancer’s costume because she has a degree in Biochemistry. WTFhuh
Real reason: So Munya means that he hasn’t noticed me? He’s feeling too fine with himself and thinks he’s too much to talk to me, no? Well, we’ll see about that. He can go and do his fineboy moves back in Zimbabwe when I put him up for eviction. As for Mimi, she reminds me of how skinny I am. She’s got to go.

Takondwa nominated Uti and Latoya because Uti has a negative impact on the housemates. As for Latoya, the Incredible Bulk of BBA3 nominated her because she has a negative impact on the group. How creative is that?
Real reason: C’mon people, I’m just a piece of furniture in that house. You don’t really expect me to have a real reason for nominating these actual people.

Thami nominated Tawana and Sheila and after watching the nominations show twice I still cannot tell you what his official reasons for his choices were. Thami always seems to complicate even the simplest of questions and I couldn’t make head or tail of what he was saying.
Real reason: Ouch that candle holder is still smarting quite badly. It left quite a bruise on my thigh. Tawana’s got a mean throwing arm and she’s got great aim as well. Don’t forget she won the target throwing event during the Olympics. Who knows what she’ll be throwing at me next? Better get her out of the house while I’m still alive. As for Sheila, she nominated me last week, Bleep it, I’m nominating her right back.

Head of House Ricco nominated Hazel and Tawana. To him Hazel is one of the strongest housemates and so he needed to get her out, while Tawana is losing her temper too readily and is too demanding on the other housemates. Couldn't quite find any underhanded reason for these choices.

Tawana nominated Lucille and Thami. According to the baldheaded Bots babe, ‘Lucille is always crying and it hurts me. Every two days she finds something to cry about and I want to cry with her. I think she is too emotional. As for Thami, he’s going to nominate me for sure so the best I can do for myself is to reciprocate and nominate him too.’
Real reason: I want to shag Munya and the soppy Lucille is in my way. She needs to go home and cry in her mummy’s laps or something while I cry out sitting in Munya’s laps. And Thami, he’s going to nominate me for sure so the best I can do for myself is to reciprocate and nominate him too.’

Our homeboy Uti nominated Munya and Latoya. That was a bit of a surprise, as were the results of these choices. Uti picked Munya because according to him, Munya just exists in the house and probably won’t get enough nominations to come up for eviction, while Latoya is playing the game too hard by playing with people’s emotions.
Real reason: Guy, Lucille na my spec o, and I need to enter that waka full time. But Munya dey block road and e no dey even do anything with the babe sef. See dog in the manger o. Abegi, Munya, waka make person see road jo. Oya, take my nomination. Uwabeyuwa!
Ah, Latoya. Ashawo.just dey jump from man to man. Wetin dey do you sef? Na so the thing dey scratch you? See as you just dey nack guys head together. My own men, you dey play them kalo kalo. E no go beta for you. Oya take my nomination. Shigba winch.

Morris nominated his fellow returnee Thami because he had no one else to choose and Sheila because she is haughty and uses too many profanities.
Real reason: Damn. If Thami and I were put up for eviction last week, chances are that people will still vote the same way, so let me help Thami gain the edge by also nominating him. For all I know, he could be nominating me as well, so I’m just covering my ass. As for Sheila, the bitch nominated me last week without provocation. Well, payback’s a bitch, ain’t it?

As it turns out, Sheila, Tawana and Latoya had the most nominations and are thus up for eviction come Sunday. But it’s another fake eviction with a twist. Two housemates will be evicted on Sunday but will spend the next six days living together in Biggie’s ‘Rubbish Dump’ and after that week, one housemate will be permanently evicted while the remaining one will be sent back into the house. Some twisted isht, right?

Head of House Ricco was called in to exercise his powers of Save and Replace and the whole house held its breath. Why? Ricco’s love interest Latoya was up for eviction. Would he save her? Not a chance. The level of beef in the house hasn’t gotten anywhere near that point where they will use the Save and Replace that was so liberally used in BBA2. I even doubt whether Latoya actually expects him to save her. Of course Ricco did the right thing and left the inmates on Eviction Row exactly how he found them. But the pressure of the decision seemed to overwhelm the Angolan and he shed some tears when he came out of the Diary Room. That was so not gangsta.

But the real volcano of tears was yet to erupt. Tawana, having to deal with the thought of going home early, suddenly burst into tears. Hazel and Morris tried their hardest to comfort her but the Bots babe was inconsolable. She cried about her fears, her insecurities, her paranoia and she cried about Latoya’s nomination. Uti had joined the comforters’ club when Tawana started about Latoya. “Now, what sort of person nominates Latoya? How does anyone go into that Diary Room and say: Latoya?” I don’t know how they did it but it was simply perfect. It could not have been done better if it had been scripted. Remember that Uti nominated Latoya. He was behind Tawana and resting his head on her back so she couldn’t see his face and neither could Morris nor Hazel. As soon as she said that a smile with guilt written all over it broke out on Uti’s face and the camera caught and held it for a full four or five seconds. It was a priceless television moment. It gave me chills to see reality looking scripted. It took Ricco’s intervention to get Tawana to calm down. Ironically, he was one of the people who nominated her.

There seems to be trouble in paradise as Munya and Lucille appear to have broken up. Munya is apparently pushing for a deeper emotional connection with the Namibian but she would rather they just stayed friends. Munya was having none of that and felt he would rather not be her friend at all and would not even speak to her again. Lucille agreed as she is not short of options in the house and promptly asked the cute Zimbabwean out of her bed. Perhaps now there will be hope for Uti who has declared his interest in the willowy Namibian.

Watch this space folks.

@Tampico
Yeah, always leave the difficult bit for Lawyerchap. Predicting who will be evicted indeed. i be Nostradamus? grin grin Anyway, going by entertainment value, i'D say tawana will be packing her bags at the end of the two weeks. But i think Biggie will put her and Sheila in the Rubbish Dump together as they seem to be the two who cannot live with one another. But i could be wrong.

These twists are totally rewriting the Big Brother format and it is great for keeping the housemates on their toes and on the edge. However, Uti knows that two people will be evicted next week but doesn't know about the twist at the end. That is going to be a mad weekend and i wouldn't miss it for the world.

Peace out.

Most people are interested in brand new Elantras, though i'm sure there will be quite a few who will make do with used ones. If you do bring in brand new ones, the challenge would be that you would have to target people who are ready to pay cash. I can tell you authoritatively that effectively 70% of the people on the waiting list for the Elantras are financing their purchase by some lease arrangement. But that having been said, there is a gaping hole in the market presently and anyone smart enough to capitalise on this Elantra scarcity is sure to make a killing.

Favourite colours are black, silver, gold and oxblood. There is general dissatisfaction with the light grey interiors that most of the Elantras come with as they are maintenance intensive. Some come with black/dark interiors and are coveted by buyers. So dark interiors are preferable.

Awww Biggie. Surely they deserved to win the Olympics task. They put their very hearts and souls into the events themselves but they sadly let themselves down in the time between the events, engaging in what Biggie termed anti-olympic behavior: bickering where they should have been united, smoking and eating chocolates when they should have been on a strict diet, cheating which is against the Olympic spirit and not looking out for one another’s safety during the more dangerous tasks. But surely that presentation had to count for something. Come on biggie.

The presentation was great and the housemates went about it with great enthusiasm. Munya was the presenter and did a great job taking us through the various events as they reenacted the ribcracking scenarios that played out this past week. The Tricycle Relay was the highpoint for me. It was a testament to the powers of the PVR decoder as the housemates paused and rewound live tv. That was truly hilarious. Munya tried to pause facial expressions and housemates in midair all the while keeping up a steady chatter explaining the scenarios as they unfolded. He did a truly stellar job on the night and they had me in stitches almost throughout the presentation.

However, I wasn’t laughing when they reenacted Uti being caught eating chocolates in hiding and Munya highlighted Nigeria’s bribery and corruption problem when Uti had to give Mimi some chocolate to shut her up. I felt it was a bit insensitive given our not exactly sterling reputation in that regard. To further reinforce it on Big Brother wasn’t very funny to me. But that’s just me I’m sure.

Anyway, the greatest fear of any Olympic Organizing Committee came horrendously true for the housemates as they struggled to light their Olympic torch. Munya and Ricco struggled vainly with the lighter trying to ignite the torch. Come on guys, some accelerant is all you need. Tawana came to the rescue with God knows what, probably some nail polish remover. But even that was in such small quantity that the torch soon died out. I don’t know how they eventually got the Olympic Flame going, but when they did it was a truly healthy blaze.

The closing ceremony was ‘grand’to use Uti’s words. The dance display was pretty well choreographed and the housemates pulled it off without a hitch. There was so much going on at the same time, sort of like a visual buffet, with some acrobatics, choreography and callistenics all happening at once. After I saw the Beijing opening and closing ceremonies I had said Africa should never try to host the Olympics, but now I’m a bit more confident after seeing twelve ordinary Africans put together a makeshift ceremony with creativity and enthusiasm. I was proud.

That’s why I was shocked beyond words when Biggie said they failed the task. I was truly shocked but not as shocked as the housemates who had expected to win the 100% wager. At that point bickering broke out about who decided to wager the entire 100% with Uti shouting at the housemates that “you never wager all your money.” Typical Nigerian.

And then the anger turned towards Big Brother with signs of rebellion showing amongst all the housemates. But uti seems to be very vocal with his disapproval of Biggie’s verdict on the task. Last night Biggie told someone to check that they were wearing their microphone correctly and Uti said ‘Biggie we would appreciate it if you don’t speak to us anymore tonight.’ I was shocked and the housemates were too. This morning again, he referred to Big Brother as Big Bitch. shocked shocked shocked

He has a partner in Takondwa who was being an incendiary influence this morning, urging the housemates not to exercise. He was actually actively soliciting the housemates to go on strike. According to him, ‘what will Big Brother do to us? Come out of the Diary Room? Or disqualify all of us? If we stick together there’s nothing he can do to us.’ But the chubby rapper failed to walk the walk after talking the talk. He had said he wouldn’t go into the Diary Room if Biggie called him. The words were scarcely out of his mouth when Biggie called him into the Diary Room. Sheepishly, the tough talking Zambian walked into the Diary Room. Fortunately it was merely to tell the housemates to change their batteries. Phew! lipsrsealed

Last night Mimi the Ghanaian either showed how naïve she was or was just playing dumb. She appeared to be under the impression that guys are actually attracted by a girl’s personality. Duh! The housemates mercilessly laid into her teasing her about her attraction to Morris being based on anything but personality. Thankfully Latoya was fast asleep or there could have been bloodshed. Also learnt a new word ‘Hoy’ which apparently means, well, you can guess what it means, I’m sure. wink wink

They are preparing for the Head of House task to choose the first HOH whose powers will actually count in next week’s eviction. However, there seems to be general cold feet towards exercising the power of Save and Replace and it is unlikely that we will see it used much this season. Perhaps only when the person who is HOH ends up on Eviction Row will we see that power being used. Liverless housemates. This will make evictions very boring and predictable, because the housemates will not nominate the person who is HOH and the HOH will not save and replace anyone, at least not now. Perhaps when the numbers have been whittled down and alliances have formed. Can hardly wait.

This just in: Ricco seems like he's going to be Head of House.

Great pace we're setting with this thread. 11 days, 11 pages. That's a page a day. Meaning we're probably going to end up with at least 91 pages. Wow. Nice going people.

@Beamer,
Yo man, great write up as usual. And funny as hell too. I've been calling Sheila a Masai girl, my bad. But that was because practically everyone recognizes Kenya as being the land of the masai. It is most probably the most famous tribe in Kenya and i used it merely as a synecdoche to refer to Kenya. If i had referred to her as the 'luhya girl' everyone except you would probably be like  huh huh

Finally saw the big Uti/Lucille fight today. She so got what she deserved for butting in where she wasn't invited. My opinion.

The Olympics closing ceremonies are looking good, if the rehearsals are anything to go by. Uti didn't win anything, much like Team Nigeria and he and Ricco got me pretty uncomfortable with all their talk about "the fat guys" during the tasks yesterday. But apparently it was all in good fun and the 'porky kids' took it all in good cheer.

But is Uti's relentless hounding of Thami all harmless fun? Or is there some deep rooted malice involved? Uti doesn't consider it tension and said as much to Biggie today. But i wonder how Thami and South Africans view it. He keeps calling Thami 'Retard' and 'Porky' and a lot of other names. It gets me decidedly uncomfortable but Uti says its a 'guy' thing and considers Thami his favorite housemate right now. i don't know. What do you guys think?
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 10:45am On Sep 02, 2008
Nominations have come and gone and I’m wondering why we’re having a fake eviction so early in the game. Biggie should have saved it for later in the game when it would have had more impact on the outcome. Unfortunately, the South African Thami and the Ugandan Morris are up for eviction on Sunday. This means that it is very likely to be Morris taking the walk through the eviction doors. I say Morris because if Thami is made to take the walk and then reintroduced immediately, the housemates will think there is Mzansi  ojoro at work. Everyone will raise eyebrows definitely. So while Thami and Morris are on Eviction Row, it’s going to be a fake eviction on Sunday.

Voting patterns are emerging already and this is a pointer to how a clique can actually influence the evictions. Sheila, Mimi and Lucille whose group was ostensibly founded on a stolen bottle of red wine all voted the same way. They each nominated Thami and Morris and they both ended up on Eviction Row. And that’s just a group of three. Now imagine if they won head of house.  smiley

Tawana nominated Lucille. No surprise there. The surprise was that she left the nominations the way they were. I had thought that she would place Lucille in the line of fire without batting an eyelid. But it seemed to be Lucille’s lucky day and Tawana left the nominations as they were. After she was called into the Diary Room to exercise her power of Save and Replace, Tawana made two very startling statements. First she said ‘Now I really need to get laid. Roughly.’  shocked shocked shocked Despite Hazel’s announcement of this announcement, there were no takers! Not even jokingly! Wow. That says something about Botswana’s sex-appeal, and it’s not complimentary. wink wink

Her second bombshell was that the revered soul singer Joan Armatrading was her babysitter when she was growing up in California. According to her, at the time Armatrading was a struggling singer trying to make ends meet and had to babysit to pay her bills. undecided undecided True or false? Google to the rescue!

Morris’ nominations were a bit of a surprise for me. Takondwa and Lucille? What happened to his tormentors-in-chief Ricco and Uti? Well, it appears Uti got back into his good books at the very last minute with the advice he gave Latoya on how to get sweet with the Ugandan again. And perhaps Morris felt nominating Ricco would somehow seem cheap particularly as he and Latoya had mended fences.

Thami proves that the Naija/SA beef is alive and well. He nominated Uti and Ricco. Latoya apparently considers herself an Alpha Female and thinks Sheila is one as well. She says this would be like having two heifers in one barn, (apparently, that is a no-no) so one of them has to leave. She nominated Sheila and Takondwa. Seems to me like she’s targeting that couple. Latoya, do unto others as you would if you lived in a glass house… (somehow I think I may have mixed up that proverb). undecided

Uti nominated Lucille and Mimi and I’m very surprised at these choices. Why doesn’t Uti like Lucille? The Namibian senses that the Nigerian considers her stupid and skinny and said as much to Munya during their talk, but I do not know how she came about this assumption. It seems like it is being borne out though with this nomination. As for Mimi, Uti says he was merely trying to nip a budding clique in the, er bud. wink

Munya’s nominations were the only ones on strategy. He is determined to just get rid of the competition. He nominated his buddy Ricco and the Masai girl Sheila. According to him, they are the strongest contenders in the house. This is a strategy that served BBN winner Katung very well. Forget emotions, forget friendships and focus on the game. Get rid of the competition. For now, my money is on Munya as he seems to be the only one thinking clearly at this stage. cool

Hazel nominated Takondwa and Ricco then spent a huge chunk of time with the chubby Zambian getting to know how his mind works. They had a very insightful discussion with TK revealing much of our strategies for dealing with chicks to all of Africa. I personally branded him a traitor to the male cause though I learnt a couple of new things from him. So guys, if your formerly surefire babe-winning strategies start to misfire, you know who’s responsible.  angry huh

Ricco nominated Thami and Morris and was the only guy who nominated both people on Eviction Row. Thami’s nomination by the Angolan was merely because he’s dull and boring, but nominating Morris seems like he’s trying to get the Ugandan out of the house so he can latch onto the Tanzanian vixen Latoya. He must be secretly hoping Morris gets evicted on Sunday and he will be. But imagine ricco’s shock when he is readmitted into the house. Wouldn’t miss the Eviction Show for the world.

The task for the week is BBA Olympics. Imagine those housemates with not one sporting bone in their collective body trying to emulate the Bolts and Phelps of this world. This should be a good week on BBA3.

Peace out.

@Tampico

TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 4:30pm On Sep 01, 2008
Okay. So Diary sessions have been held and were very revealing indeed. The dynamics in the house can turn on one housemate's response to an innocent question. It is just too early for anyone to even try and preempt the housemates' nominations. For instance, Thami has been so inconsequential in the house that i didn't even figure him into the nominations. It is entirely possible that a number of people could have nominated him but i just didn't avert my mind to him. takondwa as well. I also reckoned without the fact that Tawana is Head of house and so cannot be up for eviction, plus i didn't figure in the fact that she likes Munya who seems to be hooking up with Lucille and so she'd have the Namibian princess in her crosshairs. Chances are that Lucille will be put up for eviction by Tawana but it is unlikely that she will be evicted.

Thami has turned out to be the culprit who stole the meat and cigarettes that have been causing a downright brouhaha in the house. He confessed to throwing the items out of the Big Brother house so they wouldn't be found on him. He has been punished by Biggie to prepare a meal for the other housemates and to refrain from eating meat in the house until further notice. He picked Lucille to share his punishment and they have both been talking. She confessed to Thami that she likes Munya but that Takondwa is showing interest in her because he heard that she liked him at the beginning (which we all knew). So i'm wondering, isn't TK supposed to be like off-limits since she knows  Sheila is very interested in the chubby Zambian? Or is all fair in love and war?

Thami seems to believe that there is a group forming which he has christened the KIG Squad (Keeping It Gangsta Squad) and is supposed to include Uti, Ricco, Munya and Sheila. Lucille thinks he is paranoid. so do i. Yeah, Ricco and Uti are quite close but i wouldn't think it would be the basis for forming any sort of group. And including Sheila just confirms his paranoia.

It appears Uti nominated Tawana and Mimi. The former largely because of their differences in religious beliefs, and the latter mistakenly based on the seeming formation of a clique which he wanted to nip in the bud. Apparently, that clique's only foundation was the stolen bottle of wine. But something tells me there'll be surprises aplenty when the Nominations Show airs tonight.

@Dalby
Yo man, good to see you again. And thanks for the interpretation. How's PH? (it is PH, right?)

@Kanz and all
Thanks guys. It's no fun watching BB alone so lets all contribute.

@Adechuks

TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 11:58am On Sep 01, 2008
This weekend in the Big Brother house has completely justified my DStv subscription for the entire month. It was completely mindblowing. There was just so much going on. Biggie threw the housemates a smash of a party with DJ Waxxy on the wheels of steel. The housemates had a blast with some dancing that would make the cast of “Dirty Dancing” green with envy. It was also the night the first BBA3 ‘relationship’ was made official. Tanzanian vixen Latoya and Ugandan fine boy Morris sealed their long-incubating relationship with some passionate spit-swapping while taking a breather from some fiery dancing on the night. Wow! Four days in and a relationship is already sealed. That has to be some sort of BBA record. lipsrsealed

But hold your horses! Don’t break out the champagne just yet. That’s the same Latoya who shares a bed with Ricco the Angolan. And that arrangement doesn’t look like it’s about to change. shocked shocked How puzzling is that? The strangest thing is that right after the party where she and Morris did their tongue wrestling act, she was being smooched and fondled in bed by Ricco. huh huhOn the same night! What the heck is going on with that chick? Is this strategy? Or just raging hormones from a chick who claims to have been celibate for the last two years?

The situation so pisses off Uti that he had to sing for Morris yesterday morning “when a man loves Latoya, he’s still asleep even when he’s awake,” Mumu. Uti pulled no punches in letting both Morris and Latoya know that they were falling his hand sha. He told the Tanzanian in no uncertain terms that if he was in Morris’ shoes, she wouldn’t get away with treating him the way she was treating Morris. He even coined a term for her which I have never heard before. He said she was a proper ‘shigba’ whatever that means. Uti is just so real, telling it like it is and making no bones about anything. He also doesn’t seem to be interested in hooking up with anyone just yet, despite Hazel’s best efforts. The Malawian chick seems intent on getting her claws into our homeboy, but Uti seems quite content to be alone for now. Perhaps it’s strategy, we’ll have to wait and see.

The weekend also saw Lucille’s ratings skyrocket as we witnessed her metamorphosis in what can succinctly be termed “good girl gone bad.” She just suddenly became hot and in high demand, as if the guys only just realized that she was there. We’ve heard of love triangles before but suddenly we were confronted with the very first love pentagon as Ricco, Munya, Thami and Takondwa all suddenly appeared to be in the running for a shot at securing the Namibian princess’ heart.

Much if not all of her metamorphosis can be traced to the not exactly wholesome influence of the masai girl Sheila. A more unlikely pairing could not have been imagined as Sheila somehow took Lucille under her wing. Brash, gutter-mouthed Sheila and quiet, naïve Lucille? That’s a sure recipe for disaster, at least for Lucille. This may be strategy on sheila’s part to keep her man Takondwa, because during the Truth or Dare Lucille had to pick a guy and kiss him for twenty seconds. She picked the chubby Zambian rapper, giving rise to the assumption that she was attracted to him. Some feel that Sheila has pulled Lucille into her clique to eliminate her as competition for TK’s affections. The reasoning here is that she wouldn’t compete with her friend for a guy whereas if they weren’t friends she would have no qualms about going after TK. Personally I think that’s too inane but who knows how women’s minds work? It is not a joke when they say men are from Mars and women are from Venus. wink wink

The Ghanaian Mimi is the third musketeer in that clique and together they have started the smallest of divisions in the house, but which will be fundamental in influencing nomination patterns in the coming weeks. They snagged a bottle of wine from the housemates’ supply and hid it in their room, going back and forth to take occasional furtive swigs from the ill-gotten bottle. Seeing Lucille engaged in something so underhanded was strange but the best was yet to come from the good girl gone bad.

It came in the form of some talk time with the sexy-voiced Munya (who, by the way, Tawana has publicly proclaimed she would desperately like to Bleep shocked shocked shocked). Previously, ricco had been showing a marked interest in Lucille, calling her his wife and such, and she had been responding with the faintest of green lights. Until Mimi and Sheila came by. Sheila starts by saying she wonders why everyone thinks Ricco is hot, and that there is one thing that puts her off him. The perfect tag-team partner Mimi weighs in with her contribution: is it something personal? Yes it is, says Sheila. And they go on about P.diddy and Beyonce, laughing and exchanging high fives while Lucille and other clueless people like me look on bemused, wondering what those celebrities have to do with anything. Blabbermouth Mimi finally lets the cat out of the bag by saying, and I quote her very words, “the guy’s mouth stinks.” On international TV? shocked shocked angry huh Sister, that was cold. If anyone understands the references to P.Diddy and Beyonce please clue a brother in. wink

Anyway, that seemingly put paid to Ricco’s chances with Lucille. Takondwa was off-limits as he was now effectively ‘with her friend’, Thami the South African was simply ineffective as a male, so that left Munya in the race. The chappie spotted his opportunity and took it. He sat her down and talked to her on that level that has come to be known as toasting. The conclusion was that they would be homies. But a little later on, while Ricco and Latoya are doing their thing and giggling and keeping everyone else awake, Munya and Lucille relocated from their room to the other room where Tawana and Hazel were doing their best to comfort Morris over Latoya’s duplicity. Somewhat conveniently, there was only one bed free. What the heck…the both got in the bed and as soon as the lights went out, the covers went over their heads. When they reemerged for air some four minutes later, they looked like they were just pulling apart from a bout of kissing. I cannot swear that they kissed, but it damn sure looked like it. We’ll need some confirmation in the following days. Watch this space. grin grin

But this was really Lucille’s coming-of-age weekend in the BBA house. She has officially become a player and a contender in this game. Cannot quite say the same for Hazel yet. But it’s early days yet. Although with the first round of nominations just scant hours away, I don’t exactly fancy her chances of survival if she is put up for eviction later today.

Speaking of nominations, how do you guys think it will go? I am only sure of one housemate’s nominations and that person is the Ugandan Morris. He will nominate Ricco and Uti. His pride will get the better of strategy and he will seek to eliminate his biggest sources of discomfort: Ricco, who is insulting his manhood by making a cuckold out of him, and Uti who is rubbing his face in it.
Uti in turn is likely to nominate Latoya and Morris, for the obvious reason that he is disgusted with them. But he could be more strategic and realize that they are providing entertainment for viewers and leave them alone. I don’t know. It is probably too early to begin to even have an inkling as to how the housemates will nominate today but this is how I’m thinking.

Sheila will most likely nominate Tawana and Ricco.

Mimi could nominate Ricco and Latoya.

Lucille will nominate Ricco and Tawana

Munya will probably nominate Morris and Hazel

Latoya will most likely nominate Uti and Mimi

Hazel will nominate Latoya and Morris

Takondwa will nominate Tawana and Morris

Thami will nominate Uti and Sheila

Ricco will nominate Morris and Mimi

Tawana will nominate Latoya and Morris.

So going by this, Morris, Ricco and Tawana could be up for eviction by tonight. But then, I’m not a mind reader and I have very possibly gotten it horribly wrong. So this isn’t Nostradamus speaking by any means.

Well, let’s see how it all pans out tonight.

Peace out. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Africa III (3): Official Thread by lawyerchap(m): 10:12am On Aug 28, 2008
This big brother house should be closed down and everyone sent home. Whaaaathuh It was a wicked wild and wacky night of Truth or Dare. Truth or dare? On day three? BBA2 housemates didn’t begin to play Truth or Dare until the second month, and even then, no one was asked to strip naked, or French kiss every guy in the house. Goodness gracious, these housemates are going to get Biggie in trouble, guaranteed. I got home from work and turned on the tv and there was Latoya standing in the midst of all the other housemates, as naked as the day she was born but for her bikini bottoms. shocked shocked shocked My jaw was on the floor. What in heaven’s name could be going on?

It was truth or dare.  The housemates had to spin a bottle and ask the unlucky (or lucky) housemate to whom it pointed to do whatever crossed their perverted minds. The carnage was endless.

Thami had to kiss Sheila for twenty seconds and I thought with all the Kenyan girl’s bravado this would be one to watch. It was quite underwhelming in the end with Sheila clamping her teeth tight leaving the South African only her lips to play with. The boy sef no sabi kiss babe. undecided undecided Plus he’s the least good looking of the guys.

Lucille was asked to narrate her first sexual experience. Don’t know if that was a stroke of evil genius or pure dumb luck but since the girl had told the other girls she was a virgin, there was no experience to narrate, so it was either get dunked in the icy pool or pick a guy and kiss him for twenty seconds. You know, truth or dare is great for revealing secret crushes and if Lucille’s choice was anything to go by, then she seems to have a crush on Takondwa the Zambian housemate. She walked straight to the chubby rapper and kissed him quite well. It was mindbending stuff to see the reserved Namibian kissing anything, let alone a full grown man. wink Didn’t think she had it in her.

Then the Zambian was asked to strip butt-naked and stand for twenty seconds. I thought it would be the pool for him, but he calmly stood up and stripped down to his birthday suit. Some false modesty made him cover his genitals with both hands but the housemates screamed at him to take them off. He calmly complied, even swigging a drink as they counted down the twenty seconds. His luck would turn for the better as he was later dared to suck on Latoya’s nipples for the now standard twenty seconds. shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked But Biggie, already showing signs of trepidation over the wantonness of these housemates, first cut to a long shot that ensured we saw nothing and then cut to a view of a clock to ensure we heard nothing. huh huh huh

My first thought was that they were probably saving the footage for the Uncut Show. But then it occurred to me that an uncut show on any other channel would entirely defeat the purpose of getting us to individually request activation of Channel 198 and expose Multichoice to censure yet again. Except the uncut show would only be on 198, but then what would happen to the live action that would be going on in the house during that time? This led me to conclude that Biggie may be censoring the more salacious aspects of the housemates’ behavior and we may never get to view that footage again. huh undecided angry

Biggie censored again when Uti was asked to list the girls in the house in order of how badly he wanted to Bleep them. That gem came from Ricco. Biggie denied us that piece of prime information that could have helped us better understand the new dynamics that always emerge after a game of truth or dare in Big Brother Houses. Instead we got the clock again. And to add insult to injury, the time wasn’t even correct. angry angry huh

Our homeboy Uti got dunked in the icy pool for balking when he was dared to kiss, of all people, Ricco. Sharp naija boy, he asked what would happen if he was prepared to do it and Ricco wasn’t and was told that Ricco would get dunked in the pool instead. So he squared up with Ricco for the kiss expecting the Angolan to back down. Ricco’s nerve held. Uti’s nerve failed. So Uti who had designated himself and Ricco ‘pool management’ with the job of dunking people in the pool, got a taste of his own medicine and got dunked.

Thami kissed Hazel in another uninspiring performance from the South African. Munya kissed Tawana in a beauty and the beast remake and mimi kissed Uti with such gusto that I was frightened for the boy. And then right after that kiss She had to dare someone and she dared Uti to kiss her again. shocked Hello??!! Even the housemates had to protest. Trust Sheila and her sharp tongue. “Did you enjoy it so much that you want seconds?”

Ugandan fine boy Morris was dared to strip naked, grab his privates and jump around the garden shouting ‘Uganda, Uganda.’ There was no way he was going to do that so it had to be the pool for him. Slight problem there though. Morris claims he cannot swim and was liable to drown if he was dunked in the pool. Fat chance of that happening with Ricco around. Have you seen that boy swim? He’s Olympic standard and I’m not even joking. Anyway they convinced Morris that he was safe with eleven other capable swimmers to save him. Okay. But slight problem again. He starts griping about how his hairstyle is not water-friendly and isht. The housemates whipped out a shower cap so fast it seemed like magic. All out of excuses, Morris had to take his fate like a man. In he went with a splash and the housemates held their collective breath for a couple seconds to see if he would drown. In a four feet deep pool? All he needs to do is stand up and he’d be safe.

The highpoint of the game had to be when Ricco had to strip naked, totally naked and perform a lap-dance for Sheila. Ricco, real as ever, went about it without flinching, stripping down to his birthday suit and dancing seductively. Cut to long shot. Then cut to clock showing correct time for South Africa. Bah! Biggie is such a killjoy this time around. angry angry huh huh

All the while Hazel and Lucille’s faces were a study in consternation. I could almost read their minds. They were obviously saying to themselves, what am I doing here? What kind of people am I going to have to live with for a possible 91 days? Neither of them appeared to have bargained for this level of depravity in the Big Brother house and are very much out of their depth in the house. Yes, they must have seen previous Big Brother shows but not even that would have prepared them for this house and this collection of people (and I use the term ‘people’ very loosely here). Hazel soon decided she had had enough and needed to retire from the game. The price? Three icecubes in her undies, and they were to remain there until completely melted. shocked

Very hairy proposition but she didn’t even flinch. She grabbed the icecubes and shoved them into her undies. Lucille asked for her icecubes and they were handed to her. Cut to long shot. Biggie, which one be your own? You say, only on demand. We demanded. Now you’re censoring it again. We’ve consented to be shown these images, why are you still protecting us again? This will now provide ammunition for people to protest. huh

sheila too had to french kiss every guy in the house for twenty seconds each. She even had to make sure everyone came out to watch the show. What do you guys think? Is there going to be an Uncut Show? Haven’t heard anything about that.

they went indoors after the game lost steam and talked about juju with Uti and Mimi regaling them with tales of the supernatural, from Mama puts with magical means of attracting customers to men cutting off girls pubic hair and stuff like that. Sheila later took over and talked movies till well past midnight. I had to sleep.

Ha. All this talk about me making all the money in the world. I wonder where that started. Oya, start reporting yourselves. But it’s great to be back here. Looks like the house is going to be a real riot. What a truly scrumlicious collection of housemates Biggie has put together for the third season. From GI Jane with the crew cut to the Fat Joe wannabe with the ‘spinners’ pendant, it’s a real motley crew. For once, the Naija boy looks like a fairly accurate representation of the true Nigerian, thank God for small mercies. Trust me and my conspiracy theories, but something tells me they are going to try and compensate Nigeria for the outcry over the Ofunneka debacle by ‘allowing’ us win it this time around. They know we have such short memories and once we win it, all will be forgotten. I mean, isn’t this the same country where someone made off with four billion 1980s naira and was to have been returned in a crate but made a triumphal return to a red carpet reception when the money ran out? huh huh huh

But back to the house. That décor is simply outasite. The jungle theme for the lounge will take some getting used to, but it sure rocks for me. I’ve always been one for the weird and wonderful when it comes to interiors and the BBA team has done a truly stellar job with the house. It’s a fresh take on environmental design with no clear distinctions between outdoors and indoors. When KB was taking his tour of the house, it took a wide camera shot for me to realize he had left the garden and was actually in the lounge. Wish I could do something like that in my crib. cool cool

The housemates are cool and each one reminds me of a former Big Brother Housemate. This season Lerato is from Kenya and Meryl is from Tanzania. Sheila and Latoya appear to have the highest entertainment value after the first day; Sheila with her glib tongue and overdeveloped sense of humour and Latoya with those boobs and her constant traipsing from guy to guy. On the first night Latoya was clinging to Naija boy Uti, but then invited Angolan housemate Ricco to sleep in her bed. Last night she spent a huge chunk of time with Ugandan housemate Morris cuddling and talking in muted tones. It doesn’t make sense to me yet. But she’s an entertainer, and according to D’Banj the entertainer-in-chief, as an entertainer, you don’t need to make sense. (Wonder what Ruggedman has to say about that). Sheila asked all the girls if they would have sex in the house and placed a wager to see who would do it first. She also asked the guys if they would ‘self-service’ when the pressure got too much. When she was asked the same question she didn’t even miss a beat before saying ‘definitely.’ shocked shocked :

Uti reminds me of Ebuka from BBN. Good looking, articulate, real, everything he needs to be the alpha male in the house. But I hope he’s quick on the uptake. Seems to be really into the Bible and had a brawl with Botswana’s housemate, GI Jane Tawana when she said ‘Bleep the Bible.’ Doesn’t seem to be interested in hooking up with any chick just yet. In fact, the Kenyan chick whom  we have all but married him off to is the one person he says he is sure he won’t like. But never say never. We all know how thin that famous line between love and hate is. wink wink

My favourite housemate though, is Ricco. He looks like something right out of a Tego Calderon music video. You know those dangerous Mexican types you see holding back pitbulls and bull mastiffs that seem like they need anger management? That’s Ricco. Complete with the toned muscles, tattoos and the sagging pants. He just seems so dangerous, and the rosary hanging from his neck only serves to accentuate this thinly veiled lethalness. Aside from Uti, I’ll be rooting for Ricco to go far.

The rest of the housemates haven’t exactly leapt off the screen at me. Lucille from Namibia is impossibly pretty but strangely taciturn, and is a self-confessed virgin. Hazel with the fabulous body and great hair is somewhat anonymous to me. I always have to struggle to find her in the house. The Ghanaian dancing queen also seems to have a pretty good voice to go with her dance moves. She is a tad ungainly though, with all that disproportionately distributed weight. Apparently Thami the south African housemate was away on the day God was distributing ears. Take a look at his ears. They seem like they were made from leftovers and there wasn’t quite enough material to get them to their full size. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed did i say that out loud? He already has beef for Naija boy Uti and nominated him as his Zero last night. (When will this Naija/ SA beef end?). huh

Munya, Morris and Takondwa from Zim, Uganda and Zambia are all cool guys. The Ugandan seems to be getting the lion’s share of the Tanzanian vixen’s affections, while the Zambian rapper is the hot pick for Sheila from Kenya, though he appears to prefer GI Jane and tried to get fresh with her last night. She picked up her stuff and promptly left the bed and went to sleep with Morris. Some sharp rejection there but I think Sheila is a better pick than Tawana. But it is in the nature of man to flee from that which pursues him and pursue that which flees from him. It’s going to be a rollicking ride, that’s for sure. But it is very early days yet  so we’ll have to see how this develops.

Dorcas:
hi everyone, how is uti planning to rock the house and the babes with his wedding band on and his wife watching him daily from naija
Uti was joking when he said he was married and everyone has taken it out of context. His wife is imaginary and was a response to a housemate's question about why Biggie didn't include a married housemate this time around. the guy was just joshing when he said he was married o. How many 25 year old Nigerian males do you know that are married? Especially when they're still in school?

Lawyerchap, where art thou? I put my money right, did I?
@Aziza

Hey you, yeah you called it right and Eric won. Congratulations on your second Idol success. But the singles they performed were such a dead giveaway. Nicolette's song was "Goodbye Baby" while Eric's was "This is my Everything." Come on, i saw through that at once and knew who would be saying goodbye to the idols title. Would have preferred Nicolette though, for her technique.

But the highpoint for me was my Idol's performance of her own song "In the Music." She showed East Africa some South African music from a west african Idol. However, i didn't like Timi's performance of "Spectacular Absence." What happened to Timi? If anyone would know, it would be you. Please fill me in.

Lots of people were surprised when Trinah left. They should listen to me more often. I had said she was going to leave at Top3 and she did.

Well, that wraps up another season of African Idols. I hope it comes back to West Africa next year.

West African Idols Top 10 One Year After

Contributed by Ahaoma Kanu
Saturday, 17 May 2008

It is almost one year now Nigerians and other entertainment lovers were treated to thrills and excitement in the West African version of Idols, a popular reality TV show in which Timi Dakolo emerged the winner. Many viewers of the show are still wondering where the contestants that showed so much promises may be.

AHAOMA KANU in this report brings an update on what the contestants have been doing for the past one year.

It is almost one year now Nigerians and other entertainment lovers were treated to thrills and excitement in the West African version of Idols, a popular reality TV show. There was the great suspense that hung in the air when Pan Africa Entertainment and MNET toyed with the idea of hosting the show which industry watchers have rated high in terms of audience participation coupled with doubts in the minds of Freemantle Media, owners of the Idols licensingrights if a recorded version of the show could be achieved and the question whether the Nigeria venue chosen for the event could live up to standards considering the poor infrastructures, epileptic power supply and other inadequacies inherent in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

But on December 1, 2006, MNET’ Nigeria Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr. Joseph Hundah and the General Manger, Mrs.Allison Triegaardt announced to the world that West African Idols would be a
reality.

By January 6,2007, the audition doors at The Ibru Victoria Gardens, Lagos were thrown open by the show’s presenter, Michael Olubunmi Adekunle a.k.a Mike Magic and thus started the search for an international singing sensation that would become the first Idol from West Africa.

The show which witnessed contestants from different West African countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo held auditions in Lagos, Calabar, Abuja and Accra, Ghana respectively which produced 80 contestants that were given the nod to proceed to the Planet One Entertainment Venue for the event.

The auditions witnessed a hectic, comic and entertaining scrutiny and selection by the trio of Dede Mabiaku, Abrewa Nana and Dan Foster; the three chosen judges for the event.The number was later reduced to 24 before the actual voting process that saw 10 contestants which included three male and seven female hopeful singers emerging in the top 10 category that would sing their way to instant stardom within a couple of weeks.

The likes of Timi Dakolo, Omawumi Megbele, Jerrilyn Mulbah, Eric Arubayi, Joy Odiete, Mercy John, Temitayo George, Joan Ekpai, Uche Ume or Omodele Fatoki became instant stars from which the audience and viewers were expected to vote their Idol. At the end of the exercises which witnessed the contestants performing some of the world’s renowned hit songs, including some local traditional numbers, 26 year old, undergraduate at the University of Port Harcourt, Timi Dakolo was voted and announced as well as made history in the West African version of Idols.

He, along with Omawunmi, who took the second position and Uche were signed on to SONY BMG Africa, on a one year deal. Apart from Timi, whose contract was automatic, the other two were selected based on their outstanding performances. It is now one year and the question on the lips of all Idols faithfuls are where the Idols contestants are?

A search light was beamed on all 10 participants to find out what each and every member has been doing for the past 12 months and here are the findings.

Timi Dakolo:
The Youngman from Bayelsa State who obviously showed much promises from the beginning of the show and later became the Idol, had the greatest responsibility from the pack as all his fans have been asking where his album is since he won an international recording contract with SONY BMG. Early this year, news broke about the uncertainty that beclouded his contract when he cried out that he was dropping the microphone to go back to the ivory towers where he was studying….as SONY BMG Africa and Pan African Entertainment were not living up to the promises of the contract. Pan African Entertainment came out to announce that Timi would start recording, four months to the expiration of the contract, leaving many people wondering what time would be used in the production, promotion and
marketing of the album. Already, Timi has recorded a single entitled I LOVE YOU, which is yet to be released officially. As at press time, there were no indications that Timi had started recording at a time when his contact would be expired.

On the personal side, Timi had really been involved in a lot of shows like the Kanu Heart Foundation theme song show held last year in Lagos, He was part of the contestants taken to the United Kingdom by Celtel for the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards of which Tuface Idibia was a recipient
and has featured in so many functions courtesy of the Bayelsa State Government. He is presently working with football star, John Fashanu in a reality TV football show. No date has been officially announced for the release of his album one year after he put pen to paper.
Timi narrowly escaped death from the hands of militants in the Niger Delta region on New Year day.

Omawunmi:
The lawyer turned-musician, who gave a resounding account of her singing abilities, contested closely with Timi Dakolo, the eventual winner of the competition. Known for her impressive stage performance, smooth delivery and tantalizing dance steps, many looked forward to seeing her album out in no time but so many months later, the 24 year-old album is nowhere in sight. Not being one to sit and wait for the fulfilment of the promises of the record deal with SONY BMG of which she is a beneficiary, Omawunmi has gone on to record two singles which Trends gathered, still has an unknown date of release. The dynamic Omawunmi has kept herself busy with doing musical jingles for telecommunication giant, MTN as well as one for Malta Guinness, a beverage malt drink produced by Guinness Nig. Plc. She also starred in TV talk’s show, Moments with Mo. At present, she is stuck with Pan-African Entertainment waiting for the dawn of her highly anticipated album.

Temitayo:
Daughter of Rev. Dele George, the highly respected and adored Founder of Little Saints
Orphanage in Palmgrove, Lagos, Temitayo has obviously been one of the most visible Idols top 10 contestants in recent time and the only one to have released a single since the show closed. The ever smiling singer who hoped to use her singing abilities to support her mother’s ministry has performed with one of the world’s renowned soul singer, Michael Bolton and top Nigerian acts like D’Banj, Sunny Neji and Sammie Okposo during the Tinapa Business dinner sponsored by Cross River State government in September 2007. She is the only Idols contestant that has a single on air, a love song entitled, In Your Eyes.
She has regularly being consolidating on her performances in the Little Saint’s Orphanage’s monthly fund raising show, Joy Night. Temitayo was the missing face in the Idols Road Show that took the top 10 contestants through selected states in the country owing to disagreement with the terms of the deal being offered by Elvina Ibru’s Twice as Nice, who were handling the management of the upcoming artistes. She opted out and ironically has stayed above board.

Mercy:
Her deep vocal delivery and towering height made Mercy very noticeable among the 10. The 25
year old contestant who was a staff of one of the telecommunication giants in the country, GLO, went back to her plum job after the competition. But surprisingly, she has been able to wriggle and overcome the challenges in combining her career in the telecommunication industry and the studio to record
an eight track album with Orangootan Records. Hopefully, her album may be released within the next few weeks.
Jodie: The petite graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, whose eviction shocked so many and made one of the judges to ask Africa if they wanted a mediocre as the idol, has been the least on the news. Jodie suddenly vanished from the scene owing to her heeding the call to serve her fatherland in the one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps scheme (NYSC) meant for every fresh Nigerian graduate. She was posted to Anambra State in the South East part of the country and lost touch with the entertainment industry. Jodie, who was listed among the favourite to win the competition, has recently completed her service year and has returned to the studio hopefully to record an album.

Eric:
The most handsome among the guys who many attributed his good looks as being among the factors that saw him lasting for the while he did, delved into modeling shortly after the curtains were drawn on the Idols show. Eric, who confessed that one of the things he would miss most in the competition was the free food and drink, tried to do some recording but nothing more has been heard from him. He indicated interest in joining the Nigerian motion picture industry otherwise known as Nollywood but Trends could not ascertain if Eric had been lucky in getting some scripts to augment his singing career. So far, nothing has been heard about the 25 year-old Eric musically.

Jerrilyn:
Described as the survivor and luckiest contestant among the Top 10, Jerrilyn, the former Liberian refugee and mother of one, is among the beneficiaries of one of the major sponsors of the show, Celtel. The only non-Nigerian that made it to the Top 10 stage in the competition is presently a presenter in Celtel’s radio
show, Celtel Hit Zone. Though in the studio for a purpose slightly different from what the Idols competition main objective was, it is not clear if Jerrilyn is romancing the microphone well enough to record an album.

Joan:
The self confessed Cinderella from a poor home hoping that Idols would give her the opportunity to build a house for her mother is back to her first love, sound engineering. The studio girl has moved up on her career and is at present training with one of Nigerian’s wonder producers in the music industry, Cobhams
Asuquo, in his music production outfit, Cobhams Asuquo Music Production (CAMP). She has not started recording any song but is instead concentrating and consolidating her music and sound production skills. Her revelation that she has written a book is yet to be realized in print as neither her album nor book can be found in the public shelf.

Omodele:
Who was the first to be voted out from the top 10 stage has gone back to finish her studies at the
Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ogun State. No news has emanated from her end.

Uche:
Former choir boy, who is of the beneficiaries of the juicy contract with SONY BMG/Pan African Entertainment, may soon join Temitayo in the league of Idols participants with a song to show for it as he is set to release his debut album. Uche who was signed on to Orangootan Records by Pan African
Entertainment is almost through with his 8 track album entitled: “I am Kumeh.” The soft spoken Uche, who did a duet with Jodie on popular demand during the final day of the show, was recently attacked by armed robbers on his way back from the studio and robbed of his laptop computer. Though he worked with Cobham’s Asuquo, Uche said that his album is experimental as his recording label took more creative control of the songs in the album.

Idols presenter Mike Magic is busy with his Yellow Dogg Production outfit doing entertainment shows,
Dede has since relocated to Ghana from where he now operates while Nana is still doing very well on her music production outfit in Ghana. Dan Foster still mesmerises Lagosians with his American-accented voice from the studio of Cool FM where he is a presenter.

Unlike other Idols shows which turns the contestants into instant stars and launch them into full time music, Idols West Africa has not lived up to it’s billing when compared with the other Idols competitions where the likes of Heinz Winkler, Anke Pietrangeli and Karin Kortjé won the three successful local editions of Idols while British hero Will Young won national attention across the UK when he swept the title there.

In America the show launched the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks. Clarkson went on to win two Grammy Awards this year for her second album while Jennifer Hudson, who was part of the top 10 in season three of the American Idols, won an Oscar for her role in the film Dreamgirls; all that were part of the show anywhere in the world were transformed into instant stars after the show.

Trends gathered the reason for the unexpected eventuality witnessed so far was as a result of
communication breakdown between the record label, SONY BMG through their representatives, Pan African Entertainment and Twice As Nice Ltd. managers of the artistes which has Elvina Ibru as its CEO.
Industry watchers are of the opinion that what the artistes needed was a voracious, aggressive and result oriented management for the artistes as the Elvina Ibru, who was part of the production of the show, lacked the zeal needed to achieve such feat bearing putting into considerations her comfortable family background.

“What they needed was a manager grounded in the entertainment scene who is hungry to achieve not an already made person,” a music pundit who spoke under condition of anonymity indicated. As the East African edition of the show is about to round up, it is being said that the eventual winner of the show who might not be as good as either Timi, Omanwumi, Jodie, Uche or Temitayo will become more popular
than Timi as they (organizers) would ensure that the platform will take the eventual winner to the promised land.

But as it is now, many are asking if the Nigeria factor is part of what has kept the 10 encouraging and promising stars still missing in the Nigerian African and world entertainment scene after being exposed in such a platform like Idols.

@Poster
Now you've told us the truth. It was your first time at the cinemas and you didn't understand how the technology worked. and neither did your friend. People crossing the beam of the projector behind you will have their shadows cast on the screen. That's how those heads appear in the alaba dvds you're obviously more used to. If someone had been taping that movie, he would have captured those heads you saw and when it appears on the street, voila, pirated movie.

It is completely impossible for a cinema of Silverbird's status to show a pirated movie. They have premiered movies on the same day with Hollywood's premiere of the same movies so the talk of 'torrent' and 'dvd ripped' movies just should not arise.

@Aziza
That's surely the longest yes i've ever heard. Well, personally if something happens twice i can put it down to coincidence. Three times and it enters the realm of stranger than fiction but still possible. Eight times and i'm looking for a conspiracy theory. And quite understandably too. My theory is that those great performers are sacrificed to throw in an element of the unknown and prolong the suspense. I had my top3 down as Eric, Ammara and Trinah, and i'm sure a lot of people had the same permutation. The effect here is to get people talking about the show and wanting to see how it all eventually plays out and this manifests as higher ratings for the show. My opinion.

Aziza:
Melinda Dolittle: The judges all but declared her the winner at top 3. It was time to spite Simon Cowell, I guess. The youth vote kicked in and pushed Jordin Sparks to victory. VFTW also had Jordin down for that year.
@aziza
By the way, Vote For The Worst never supported Jordin Sparks. Had to point that out. Wish i had more time to research your 'facts.'
TV/MoviesRe: Idols Is Back! (East Africa) by lawyerchap(op): 10:27am On Jul 09, 2008
Aziza:
In American Idol season 3, it was Jennifer Hudson; season 4 was Anwar Robinson; season 5 was Chris Daughtry; season 6 was Melinda Doolittle; season 7 was Michael John. In Idols WA it was Jodie.
@Aziza
So let me understand you. You're putting this consistent removal of a stellar performer in the later stages of each and every edition of Idols down to sheer coincidence? This is a yes or no question and i'm totally cool with either answer since it represents your opinion which i cannot argue with.
