Is this for your mobile phone or mobile broadband?

Whichever it is, make sure you call or chat the Customer Service Desk every week for 4 - 6 weeks straight mentioning the difficulties experienced. They might offer to send a replacement SIM at first - take it.

Keep complaining and let them know how it is causing you a massive Distress and Inconvenience.

Let them know you'd like to cancel and look for less stressful arrangements after canceling.

Three Mobile just agreed to cancel my mobile broadband with 14 months left on the contract.

Good luck.

oluwaleokey:
Wish to cancel mine too coz of the poor network in my area but the said I will have to pay up the remaining balance...
Does it make any different? I signed my two year contract in December last year inside their shop.

Wish to switch to EE coz its stronger here... what do you advise please

Hopefully there'll be further updates because in one breath there's a restriction, and in another there's a contradiction.

TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by LaXxOnebody(m):
About time too.

Her remark on homeless people and it being a lifestyle choice sometimes, as well as the incendiary comments on the Armistice Day protest probably were the last straws.

On to the next Suella/Priti/Theresa.

But David Cameron is in though. Makes more sense.

Did you stay anywhere else in the UK before your current address?

If so, use it. It should normally let you put an out of country address.

Capital One is fair, but check your eligibility ahead to avoid a hard search.

Good luck!

Hi good people .

Please I tried applying for American express card.
But I haven’t use more than a year in the UK, the application kept asking me to put my second address,my Nigeria address kept being rejected .
Pls how can I go about it.
Thank you

And someone asked about Capital one card . Is the card okay ?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by LaXxOnebody(m): 8:00pm On Oct 29, 2023
Capital One are quite bullish in the markrt and liberal about your visa status. Up to £1,500 means you wont get more than that, from my experience they'd probably grant you a £200 credit limit that can be increased to £800 a fee months down the line if your usage & repayment ticks all their boxes.

Go for it. Try to stay below a 40٪ utilizationof your credit limit.

Tenski:
I greet the bosses in the house. I have been in The UK for 3 months now.

I have registered on the Electoral roll
I have a sim only contract
I also have a full UK license
Rent is on Direct Debit

Here is the thing, I haven’t applied for any credit card before but i just played around Capital One today as i read that it won’t affect my credit score if i get rejected but to my surprise, i was accepted (Up to £1,500) but before i complete the application, i would like to find out from the experienced people here if Capital One is a good CC to signup for?

Thanks in advance

Thanks. Please can you point me to the exact website you patronized?

I went inline and there are 2 different websites which has me confused.

Thanks.

Owoado:
I got mine from Meaco’s website. It was even cheaper there than on Amazon.

Schoolhike will add his/her/their response
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by LaXxOnebody(m): 8:39pm On Oct 21, 2023
Hi.

A quick question. Did you buy on the Meaco webpage or from some retailer. There are 2 different websites and that money plenty pass wetin scammer go comot for my body. So which did you buy from?

Thanks.

Schoolhike:
Same as me, I wish I had purchased this product a year earlier, especially given its energy efficiency.

Since buying it, my kitchen's smoke alarm, which used to be triggered when I cooked, hasn't gone off once due to the air being purified by the machine, did not even need to open the windows. A storage area in my apartment that had an unpleasant odor is now odor-free.

The mold situation in my house was so severe that it turned the ceiling black. Relying on sprays wasn't effective, and using them even made us all ill including the baby due to the chlorine content, causing symptoms including catarrh.

I believe the inclusion of air purifiers in the device contributes to its higher price, but it's worth it. Gone are the unpleasant smells in the house, and even my towels smell fresh after it dried up.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by LaXxOnebody(m):
This depends on the Landlord and could be sometimes true.

I had similar issues when i was trying to rent, so we put the employed person first and the unemployed person next on the form.

Jokuns1:
Hello, everyone. I have a question please. I've heard that if a couple plans to rent a place and only one of them is employed, they might have a lower chance of being approved by the landlord. Is this true?

Additionally, if we choose to list only the working person on the lease application, will this have any negative consequences for the other person who will be living there, or are there any other potential issues for the couple?

If you pay for your bills via direct debit i.e automated recurring/periodic payments or repayments for goods or services, then put 2 on the account you're switching to them.
America001:
I used my Monzo for it but it was rejected. I went to the bank but they said must have two direct debits from the account. I asked even though he explained but I didn't want to appear dumb.

What exactly do they mean by direct debits from the account?

I may also consider opening Metro or VirginMoney cos I wan dey chop switching money, I no go lie

Thank you very much for this detailed response.

I've also sent quite a few PMs to semmyk with no reply for a while. I do not know him personally or have any of his contact details, otherwise I would have reached out to him.

His style of analytical responses akin to what you've dropped here is what endeared me to his online personality. I wish him well wherever he is and will keep trying to reach him.

Ticha:
Have you reached out to SemmyK to check he is ok? Be a good fellow Nigerian and check on him!

If you don't need a mortgage then by all means have a go at auction. Be aware that all your buying costs are pre-loaded. 90% of the time, houses at auction have heaps of issues, weird covenants and could be unmortgage-able. You also need to complete within 28 days and once the gavel falls, you don buy house be that.

So to buy at auction, you need to have;

1. Collected/ downloaded and read the legal pack. So you will need to instruct and pay a solicitor to do that. Considering that you'll usually have about a month beforehand, it means you'll be paying premium prices for the solicitor to work through the documents quickly.

2. Have a 10% deposit plus any auction fees ready to go

3. Have any loans or mortgages already approved and ready to go - this cannot happen for mortgages at all. You maybe able to get a bridging loan but you'll be looking at interest rates of 10% to 12% over a max 18 month period. Most bridging loans also have interest rolled in so they'll give you the money minus the charged interest so they collect their interest upfront. Bridging loans also comes with fees of between 2-3% of the loan which you have to pay upfront. You will also need a broker. You must also have an exit strategy in place so when the loan period ends what will you do? Get a mortgage? Is the house mortgageable even when all repair work has been done?

4. Do a survey for information purposes rather than leverage purposes.

5. Have nerves of steel and good discipline. There is a reason majority of houses at auction go above guide prices. The guide price is just that - a guide price. Guide prices are also often deliberately set very low to generate interest and push people into emptying out their pockets. My friend bought a house in Liverpool at auction - the guide price was £1. The opening bid was £20k. She bought it for £180k and spent about £25k doing it up!

These days there is the modern method of auction which unlike the proper auction method allows you bid over the course of weeks. But you will need to pay all the sellers costs upfront before bidding and if you don't win, you lose that money - usually around £6k to £8k.

If you really want to buy this way, my suggestion would be to look for properties that did not sell at auction and then buy by negotiation. All auction results will tell you what the last bid was or if no one bid on it. You can then use that information to buy at the price point that works for you.

For everything auction, have a look at https://www.eigpropertyauctions.co.uk/

You can register for a free trial period which will allow you to see past auctions, guide prices, sold prices etc.

Has anyone ever tried getting a property via an auction?

Would you be able to survey it also?

Any thoughts or advice based on experience?

If you switch your Lloyds or main account all your payments and details are switched too.

I wouldnt advise it though.

I aslo do not knownif Monzo accounts are accepted. If you want to chop switch miney you may want to open a Metro and or VirginMoney, you can then be switching those ones.

You credit score may be slightly impacted.
America001:
Can I switch my Monzo account?

I have a Lloyd's account but it's also the account I gave my employer for payment. If I switch it how does that affect me?

You can find someone who can download then collect via Xender or something.

Hi.

Where are you coming from exactly and by what mode of transportation?

Just so you know, you can connect Whitley Bay by bus or rail, most especially from Monument. The yellow line also loops around Whitley Bay from North & South.

Welcome to Geordie Town.

I checked on my Lloyd's Bank app. It's the 2nd tab below your account balance on the home screen.

How did you check your credit score? I have spent about two months in the country and i tried checking on clearscore but its saying nothing is coming up. I have a SIM contract and I have set up DD for my electricity bill

I hope this helps: I registered on Credit Ladder based on the info I got here, linked it to my Lloyds and allowed it read my transactions and I was asked to quote the transactiona narration for my tent as was captured by my bank which I did. I don't think it has counted yet because there seems to be a window for new items to reflect e.g my electoral registration.

lightofjoy:
How do you add your rent, I also paid for 6 month but when I was still in Nigeria. I transfered the money to a friend here who helped to pay on my behalf. How do I add this to my credit rating?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by LaXxOnebody(m): 9:58pm On Jan 07, 2023
It was the letting agency, because 'I had no UK roots', despite providing a UK homeowner guarantor. But I've loaded it now on Credit Ladder.

Omo I don't think I'd be able to spend £1k in 3 months!

bigtt76:
Nice one. Don't mind the Monzo werey ...they bounced me too and I went same route as you did for 1.

Boya make you try my AMEX referral https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/tEMItOhbvx?XL=MNANS - you get 6000 Avios once you are approved and you spend up to $1000 within 3 months.

You can use the card to pay your utility bills though its advisable you use below 25% of your approved credit limit to boost your credit scores.

Was it the landlord that pressured you into paying 6 months rents in advance instead of monthly?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by LaXxOnebody(m): 9:49pm On Jan 07, 2023
1 High Street - Lloyds
2 Digis - Revolut & Monese

Tolzeal:
Are these Main Street banks or digital banks ? I received quite good inflow as-well but checking with ClearScore isn’t as up to that.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by LaXxOnebody(m):
Okay

Monzo bounced me.

1. So I opened a Lloyds Classic, Revolut & Monese (both basic accounts).

2. No credit card yet. I'm going to be shopping for one soon.

3. I paid 6 months of rent at once via a transfer from my Lloyd's. I just paid British Gas via Direct Debit for Electricity & Gas on the 26th of December. Phone & Internet will come on live this January.

Water bill.is on my wife's account. I also just registered and got confirmation of being on the electoral register.

bigtt76:

1. Type of accounts you opened
2. Type of credit card (if any)?
3. How do you pay your bills?
