You can make use of your Naira Master cards, though charges and exchange rates are always discouraging. If not for security, having cash would have been the best
Thank you.
I know I’m asking many questions oh, lol
But have and idea or an estimate on how much Abidjan to Dakar will cost?
I tried checking online to no avail

From Abidjan to Darkar; I only know about Rimbo Transport located at Nouveau Gare Adjame. Honestly, I really wish we can go together. Since the day a friend here told me about his trips to Darkar, my mind has been there. He promised to give me some contacts to make things easier and I have a customer there too. But time is just my only problem because of business
These are very valuable information, I’m deeply appreciative.
I’ll check out rimbo, and I still need more info on Abidjan to Dakar.
My trip is for early august, there’s still time oh.lol
Do you think I should open an Ecobank account or I can use another MasterCard and Visa card ?

1. Have the 100k cfa with you (even possible, have all the money in your wallet. 200k Naira is just about few notes of 10k Cfa. But Bros, your budget is very small to cover the countries in mind. May not exceed Abidjan alone.
2. I don't know about Airbnb in Abidjan. But whatever type of accommodation you plan to use, try to book around 2plateau, Cocody or Assinie (Though Assinie is outside Abidjan but a great tourist destination).
3. Would have loved to visit Darkar with you but no one to look after my business.
4. You can make use of your MTN but very expensive. (100 Naira per minute).
5.Beware of microbes in Abidjan (Abobo&Yopougon mostly). Be conscious of pick pockets at most crouded places.
Feel free to ask more questions if you have. Quote me should you want me to contribute. Bon voyage
Thank you so much for this information my brother, More Blessings for you!!!
I’ll take everything into consideration.
My other question will be towards transportation.
Do you know of any notable transport company (like our abc) that runs from Abidjan through to Dakar? It’s very important.
Plus it’ll be amazing if we could go to Dakar together.

The cost of living is on the high... Increase your budget to 500k naira.
Thank you, but perhaps you missed a few things.
I am not living but only passing through.
3 days in Abidjan, Dakar and an island (Mauritius/Cape Verde)
As earlier written, I’ll be taking Airbnb so my accommodation is sorted.
My main question amongst those I wrote is can I GET A BUS like ABC(Abidjan type) going to DAKAR??
I know it’s a road trip but I no want suffer.
I still answers for Questions 1,4,5 though
Awaiting your response, thanks.

Hi I love your adventure. I personally will be going on a work trip(for my organization) to Ghana,Abidjan, Liberia and Senegal. Although mine will be first week of September.

200k will be okay if you are tight on your budget and u use their transportation system. In 2018 I made a trip like this(then unemployed)from Lagos to Cotonuo,Lome,Accra and Senegal and back lol. U won't believe I went with about 100k or less and I mist confess I had a great time. So I encourage you to take the trip coz it's part of exposure and enlightenment
Haha thank you bro, this means a whole lot.
I would have loved if your field trip was in august lol then we for move together.

I’ll like to immerse myself in their culture even if it’s for a short while, my plan is to go forth and back in a maximum of 3 weeks and I’m looking at Cape Verde or Mauritius as the last stop before I return.
I’ll be sure to add to my budget so I don’t have unnecessary stories lol.
Mine is Lagos,Cotonou,Lomé,Accra then chill for a few days at Abidjan, then Liberia, Sierra Leone and chill at Sénégal.. then Gambia and maybe any of the islands.
So far I’ve been able to see a ride down to Abidjan but after that I’m not certain.
Any notable bus service? From Abidjan to Dakar?
I’ve never traveled by road for a long distance so a little comfort Will be good. Lol
I await you guy’s favorable response.

Hi,

Let me attempt to respond to your questions.

What you're planning to do is something I've always wanted to do for a while, but haven't gotten the balls to finally do it. Anyways, to the responses:

1. You'll be better off with your cash, although not too much. Nowhere is 100% safe, and you don't want to get stranded after being mugged. On the other hand, keeping your money in the bank has its hassles too, especially with regards to being able to withdraw across West Africa. I know Ecobank has several branches in the region, and it may be easier getting your money in many of these countries with their card.

2. I'd go for Airbnb every day and 17 times on Fridays. For me, I find it a lot more flexible than hotels. Also, it's a way to connect with locals wherever you go, and you may be able to get useful tips from the folks you stay with.

3. I don't know of anyone planning this. I'd love to, but haven't got the time right now.

4. If you're willing to bear roaming charges on your Nigerian MTN sim, then that's okay. You'll be able to use it. A cheaper option will be to buy local sim cards especially in places where you'll be staying for a while. To get a sim card, they'll request for a means of ID, usually your international passport. Once you are able to present that, you'll get your sim card. The only thing is that by the time you're done with your trip, your bag will probably be full of sim cards...lol

5. Advice? I'd say you should go for this. The experience you'll get will be one you'll never forget. It can be life changing. I once did a road trip from Rwanda through Uganda to Kenya and Tanzania, and then back to Rwanda. It was one hell of an experience.

I'm a little wary of your budget though. You mentioned you've got 200k for this trip...I'll suggest you review your budget again and be sure it'll take you the whole way and back. Last time I checked, there were no ferries running between Dakar and Praia (Cape Verde), and a flight might take a huge chunk out of your pocket. So, check again. You don't want to get stranded in a foreign land. But again, where's the fun in it if you don't get stranded...pun intended.

Plan well, go, have fun, and come share with us. Don't forget to send pictures grin grin grin

Thanks a whole lot for this piece brother, I’m deeply appreciative.
All you’ve said I will sure take into consideration and for sure I’ll try to get the best pictures.
And if you change your mind, the trip is still for august. Lol
Thanks Again.

You will need to do wire transfer. You need a domiciliary account. You will have to fund it with equivalent amount of Czk you want to pay. Don't forget you will pay about 2 to 3 transaction fees. All this will be factor in with the money.

Hey guys,
In August;
I’m planning to take a trip From Lagos to Abidjan, en route to Sénégal and then Cape Verde for a west African tour.
In Abidjan, I plan on spending 3-4 days in Abidjan, before moving to Sénégal with the same idea then Cape Verde.
My total budget so far for the trip is at 200K Naira. And the idea is to enter as much West African countries as I can (getting stamps) before I’m back.
Now my questions are:
1. I want to carry 100k cefa on my person from the 200k through the trip for miscellaneous (is that advisable) or should I leave all of it in the bank?
2. I plan on using Airbnb for my stay, is that okay or should I just go for a hotel?
3. Is there anyone planning on taking that route, we can go together?
4. Can I use an mtn sim from Nigeria throughout the trip(Abidjan and Dakar) or what do y’all think?
5. Lastly, is there anything I should know or any advice y’all can give me? I’ll be more than grateful.
I await your favorable response.

Can one use two separate bank statements? That is, when the one used in applying for graduate school at the initial stage is different from that which is tendered at the embassy?

Hi guys . need your help on this. I applied to Wes to have my transcript evualated, paid the required evaluation fee, about 290 dollars after which my school sent my transcript to Wes via dhl. Five days later Wes sent my credentials back to my school for verification and my document has been with my school for a week now. So I went to my school to find out why they've not verified and replied Wes, they said Wes is suppose to pay them 100dollars before verifying my credentials so they emailed Wes to remit the money to the school account two days ago but Wes is yet to reply my school. So today I called Wes on phone with the number on their site, told them my reference number and my problem, but they said they don't pay schools to get verification done ,that they have never paid any school and they are also yet to see the email my school sent. No my problem is Wes doesn't pay school and my school is wait on them to remit a hundred dollars if they don't see d money in the schools account they won't touch my document. Please how do I go about it?? And has any one had similar issue in the past. Please your advice urgently needed because the schools am applying to is waiting on my verified transcript from Wes and application deadline is almost near. Thank you.
Please, how does one send transcript to WES??

It does not matter, at all. Just have the official reports sent in when the school asks for it. They usually ask for this when they have offered you a place.

Quick Question ,even if it sounds ingenious
Is it preferable to start registration/application with a school before sending in your GRE scores or Its Vice-versa?

Urbana Champaign is a top school. Consider Q163-165, GPA 4.2/5 (In Nigeria) as starting points to be competitive. The general area around it in Ilinois, Chicago is even expensive to live in so that is for that.

You should definitely look at B, B- and C+ schools as they could fund you for your program since your GRE will ably compete in such schools. I know your GPA in the 4 point scale will just land at 3.0/4.0 and in most schools in the US, that is sufficient for an MSc or direct PhD (if you really want to be sure you would get funded). Here is a list of schools that your GRE is better than their averages. You can continue your correspondences with their grad advisors if they have what you are looking for;

UNewMexico, Dayton, Arlington, Witchita State, UT Health Science Centre, Wayne State, Texas San Antonio, Lamar Uni, Morgan State, Prairie View A&M.

I'll start working on them now,
I'll be sure to give feedback soon.
Much Appreciated !
Thank you Plenty

UNILAG is presenting a real conundrum now. This is because most schools will not act on the uploaded copy of a transcript if it is not the "official" one with the associated stamps and signatures that it should contain. Some schools may allow you upload a student's copy but they are usually few and far between.

Then, as for funding, nobody can truly predict it but gettting funded by UIUC for your master's is almost impossible. They also do not accept direct PhDs. UBC in Canada maybe too ambitious for your profile (your GPA in this case). Syracuse is a private University in NY whose tuition and fees are pretty prohibitive. You could get funded but that is usually at PhD levels and getting direct PhD admits into such a school is competitive. In all your school choices on this list, El Paso seems to be the only realistic one but then I am not God. I would give a list of schools to consider in my response to your next post.

UNILAG is trying to make collection of transcript a full online process , no more individual appearance .. thats probably why so its students can send and receive transcripts easily..

Well Constructed ..
Exactly the reply i was expecting ..
Thank You
UIUC has a BS-Phd program though 5 Years straight. (For those interested )

Start by Googling your course/interest and attaching grad school to it. See what turns up. It is better to look through the list on your own to know which school has what you are looking for. Your list should be whittled down by you and nobody else if you really want to change your moniker from lazy folk to hardworking folk. grin

I would only chip in 1 or 2 things if I see effort on your part. Many on here are looking for handouts while they sit idly probably twiddling their thumbs.

Haha, Lazyfolk is only entailed when something disinterests me. Quite the contrary is the case now.
Course to apply for Geographic information system or Geography related courses...
Schools checked; All schools in Texas, Syracuse, Illinois , Alberta, Montana, Etsu, Cleveland and about 10 others..
When i mean checked, i mean i wrote and got a reply from almost all..
Now, 90% of texas schools have my intended study course, My Koko is now to get funded.
Is it prior , with, or after admission ?
Does anyone on here know about uni Illinois urbana?
Or any other uni, that i can work on?
Please you've gotta chip in, as you can see Lazyfolk is a paradox.
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by LazyFolk: 1:06pm On Nov 26, 2017

Congrats on your GRE.

Your chance of getting anything you want boils down to applying to the right schools. But to even do that, you need to know what you want to study and I cannot glean that from your post.

When you say you have no chance of getting your transcript by february what do you mean? You need a scanned copy for most of your applications already as most schools will not accept a students copy.

Anyways, these sort of things are usually case by case.

Thank You for the reply, id like to expound on my previous write-up.
Accoding to what i hear from school, Unilag is trying to make a policy where students can only get their transcripts after graduation (in this case 21-23rd February 2018)
As for study motives , i am leaning towards Geography or Geographic information system,
Right now, schools considered are
university of Illinois
UT el paso
University of British Columbia
Syracuse university...
My Main problem is "finding funding", although i have spoken to their graduate advisors , they have not been forthcoming ..
So if there are other schools that can be listed here, id be grateful .. id rather hear from those with experience
