Do you have a pending job offer from the US? Or you just want to learn about the possibility of obtaining the H1b visa from abroad (Nigeria)?
I'm already working in the States and have my H1B approved. I want to know the wait/processing time for H1B in Naija, so I can plan my trip accordingly.

I know this page is for student visas, but has anyone gone through the process of stamping the H1B visa from Naija? In need of some info

Hi, just a few schools I know of... but I don't know any other STEM course u can go for. I guess that should be based on what ure interested in..

University of New Mexico
Texas A & M University College Station
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
Michigan Technological University
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
University of Maryland Baltimore

All the best!
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is actually a very good school. Some of the courses don't require GRE nor GMAT (e.g. MS Technology Management, MS Business Administration, MS Accounting). No TOEFL required too, since Nigeria is an English-speaking country. The job placement stat is high. The tuition might be high (TA-ing and RA-ing solves this problem).

I've always told people with ORD POE and connecting with another flight..If you don't allow enough time, you will miss your flight!
I had 3 hours in between landing time and bus departure time.

My problem was that I was in the wrong bus terminal and it takes about 10-15minutes to get to the right one from where I was.

I dont know why a lot of people do this....instead of them to say them no know , instead they give you wrong direction. ... me i try not to ask these days because even when i ask and u tell me i no dey believe. I been given wrong direction so many times.

@lazywriter Enjoy your stay and all the best
I had to ask because not only was I new there, there are like 4 different bus terminals and Google Maps sees them all as the same place. Lucky for me, I had enough airtime to call the Bus company.

How long did it take you to clear all checks at O'Hare and tell us your POE experience.. #gracias
We landed around 3:15 PM, so did several other flights entering the US through Chicago O'Hare; the Airport was packed full.

As usual, I joined the non-immigrant queue about 20 minutes after landing. Like play like play, I spent 2 hours + on the queue before it got to my turn. During the wait, the sniffer dogs came to my box - in my mind I was like "ma lo koba mi o", but they didn't pick any scent.

So I walked up to this white man who just came back from his lunch break at the POE. I passed him my passport and my I20. He scanned my passport then asked where I was going, where I will be staying which I told him. I don't know if Oyinbos are allergic to Nigerian scent cause he just kept sneezing when he touched my passport, so did the two other ladies I gave my passport to in school.

After the questions, he stamped my passport and handed it back to me. Then off I went to find my luggages.

PS: if you need to find a bus/train station or something, mind who you ask. Na so I ask like five different people for Illinois Bus Terminal and they all told me the same WRONG thing which made me miss the bus I had booked from Naija.

My God My Glory!

interview :

Me: Good morning
VO : yes good morning, can I see ur passport
Me : I presented my passport
VO : and ur i-20
Me : I presented my i - 20
VO : why did u select UIW
Me: because uiw offered me admission with thesis-option
VO : what do u mean by that
Me: thesis-option means research-option. I told the white VO that I am going to USA to use molecular techniques ( pcr) in my master's degree research and that I can not obtain that in any Nigerian school. I told her I would love to establish a Microbiological laboratory where I'll combine the traditional method with molecular method in diagnosis and research. I also told her that this pcr methodology is efficient, sensitive, time saving and more accurate. I was busy lecturing her through the interview window. I told her pcr makes use of nucleotide sequences (DNA) in identifying microorganisms. she then asked me : what is a DNA? I said deoxy ribonucleic acid and she said; come bck in two working days and get ur visa and passport and she handed me the white paper...

Note: Twice, I wanted to bring many documents that I came with but she said ; pls I don't need documents.

SEVIS Fee Payment: 26th April

Visa Fee Payment: 27th April

Interview Date: 6th May (visa approved)

I KNOW MY GOD, HE IS POWERFUL
congrats....

The VOs no de ask too much questions this summer period for F1

Good morning Nairalanders, sorry wasnt able to post what i term as the shortest interview ever yesterday but I am taking time out to do that now. it took max 45 seconds but I really wasn't counting just I was in and out of there in a twitch.

My interview was for may 6, 11am but my visa was approved at around 10 ish. After the rigorous process of standing in line and bio metrics, interview goes thus. The VO was a man in his early thirties... didnt even notice what number was on the window.

VO : step forward please
ME : Good morning sir
VO : pass me ur passport
ME : Passed everything including SEVIS receipt and i-20
VO : just your passport pls.. At this point i thought I had been too forward and was about to pay for it. every answer in my head vanished
VO : requests for i-20 and sevis then says So you are going to Touro College in Manhattan, NY
ME : Yes I am
VO : Did you apply to any other schools?
ME : yes sir, 2 other schools
VO : types for a few seconds... Your visa has been approved........... and I went deaf the rest of the time he talked

still cant comprehend how and why God favored me that much cos it is unmerited but I am grateful. Really dont know much people on this thread but special thanks to ashbammy, dickoflife, Ife (cant remember ur handle so we know each other on first name basis) your interviews are coming up and I pray and trust in God that they will be as easy as mine or easier. Thanks to all nairalanders. God bless you all for the help you are rendering to the lots on here.
Really very brief. Congrats bro

They have done BG checks on you before lol

I have always dreamt of working in KPMG even before I gained admission. Now I'm in my finals, and again, I have come across not just a topic on KPMG via nairaland but also a group of people who I believe will become,in the nearest future, KPMG associates, snr associates, manager, partners, snr partners, etc.
I want to use this medium to solicit your advice based on your experience and exposure.
Many Thanks.
Funny that we share the same dream

Thank you for expounding, Lazywriter. This is helpful.

I am currently working on paying my SEVIS but please is there anyway to view the available dates for appointment?
This is solely for the purpose of 'planning ahead'.

Thank you
I will advice you to book an appointment (if school is resuming soon) since the nearest available date is the 19th and then find a way to pay SEVIS (it usually takes 2 business days to reflect and there are a handful of guys that can help you with it here).

You can only see available dates when you are about booking but trust me the information keeps changing real-time (meaning an available slot now may not be available in the next minute) as people book daily.

A child could grow better than the father. Which she did, which counts for her achievements which is greater than that of her father in writing.
My points exactly. But people won't agree to this because just like diamonds, legends are forever great in our eyes.

Don't misquote me. You're talking about material things, wealth, yes? If that is the case,AMANDA won stuffs more than him. But bros, their are things more important than that.
No one mentioned money here.

Achebe is obviously a better writer, but Adichie is still growing and will only be a matter of time before she surpasses him. When she does people will still disagree that Adichie is a better writer because LEGENDS ARE FOREVER.

Don't miss quote me.

But is it not every parent's dream that their children are more successful than they are?

It is my own dream to do better and greater things than my parents, I also hope and pray that my children will surpass me, as will the children they will bear.

please delete this thread!! this is an insult to a Legend.

Chinua Achebe inspired Chimamanda and she built her work on his, so don't compare them. this is like comparing a child to his father.
But children do surpass their father.
