Two hundred and twenty-two Muslim pilgrims, who were being airlifted by the Medview Airline from Ilorin International Airport to Saudi Arabia escaped death after birds attacked the aircraft. Our correspondent in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, gathered on Sunday that the Boeing 767 aircraft conveying the 222 pilgrims was taxiing for take-off when it was struck by a brood of birds. It was further learnt that the pilot displayed a high sense of professionalism by aborting the flight while the pilgrims, who were said to be unhurt were de-boarded. It was also learnt that the incident took place between 7 and 8pm on Saturday. Our correspondent also gathered that following the delay the incident had caused to the pilgrims, Medview Airline arranged a Boeing 747 aircraft to airlift the 460 pilgrims including the affected ones. Medview Airline media consultant, Obuke Oyibotha, in a statement confirmed the bird strike. He said, “Birds strike on Saturday night forced a Medview Airline to abort a Saudi bound flight at Ilorin airport. The B767 aircraft carrying 222 pilgrims was taxiing for take-off when it was struck by a brood of birds forcing the pilot to abort the flight. “The 222 pilgrims were de-boarded without incident, and arrangements were made to provide another aircraft to airlift them. The airline assured all pilgrims that the schedule for their airlift to the Holy Land will not be affected by the incident. The airline on Saturday night flew a team of engineers and rotables to Ilorin to get the aircraft back to service.” Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Medview Airline, Alhaji Muneer Bankole, said the airline had already airlifted 675 pilgrims from the Ilorin International Airport. He stated that 460 pilgrims departed from the airport about 12.30pm on Thursday while 215 pilgrims of the second batch were also airlifted. He said the airline would also airlift pilgrims from Ondo and Ekiti states with three categories of aircraft, adding that Medview Airline would continue to maintain its adherence to safety standards and convenience of its passengers. According to him, the airline will airlift between 11,000 and 12,000 pilgrims nationwide for this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca. http://punchng.com/222-pilgrims-escape-death-as-bird-strike-hits-medview-aircraft/

Dismayed by the Gunners’ defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, Osun State governor wants the Frenchman to vacate his position Governor Rauf Aregbesola wasted no time in sending his farewell message to Arsene Wenger after Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum were on target as they sent the Gunners to the fifth spot in the English Premier League log. The seasoned politician who is a staunch fan of the Emirates Stadium outfit expressed his displeasure with the managerial tactics of the Frenchman after his team bowed to the Reds. He took to Twitter to have a say on the future of Wenger after the humiliation at Anfield, though football administrator Ayo Omidiran has a different opinion. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4110/nigerians-abroad/2017/03/06/33360592/thank-you-for-the-memories-arsene-governor-aregbesola-wants?ICID=HP_HN_3 |

Let us be constructive in passing judgment, it is against the rules and ethics of the military for any civilians to wear camouflage, which is a symbol of the military personal, haven't said that, the two military men are unprofessional, cowards, unmannered and unkind, you don't brutalize a normal human being in such manner and not to talk of a disable that they do give special treatment abroad, the two military man should be suspended or sack because they ought to have take it easy with the cripple and pity his or her condition, to know what leads to why putting on an army camouflage. |

A preacher with the Winners Chapel Church at Adesanmi area of Ile-Ife, Osun State on Saturday August 13 beat a Muslim lady for refusing to accept Jesus. It was learnt that the Christian evangelist had gone to the compound of the Muslim lady to preach when she beat her. According to eyewitnesses, the Hijab lady refused to come out when the preacher initially knocked on her door. The iWitness NG gathered that after the Hijab sister was lobbied to come out of the room, she was allegedly cursed and subsequently beaten. A resident of the area narrated, “It happened on Saturday morning in our hostel. There is one Hajia that stays in my compound. We just saw blood all over her face with a lot of marks. “What happened was that someone came to preach to her to accept Christ and attend a church programme and she rejected. The preacher was shouting from outside but Hajia told her that she wasn’t interested. Hajia later told her that she is a Muslim. “Instead of the preacher to leave her alone, she intensified the preaching and kept shouting. Hajia later came out in her Muslim cloth (Jalbab). When the preacher saw her in full Muslim gown, she started abusing her the more that ‘I don’t know it is people like you, you this masquerade, you better accept christ as your lord and saviour or you will go to hell fire’.” “The Hajia got vexed and went inside back. Yet, the preacher did not leave. Hajia had to come out for the second time to ask the preacher to leave her alone. Yet, the preacher still didn’t leave. As Hajia wanted to return to her room, the preacher dragged Hajia close to her and started hitting her to accept Christ. Hajia face was later filled with blood and marks.” Another neighbour explained that despite being injured, Hajia ran after the preacher but was persuaded by some Christians. He added, “I saw Hajia running after the preacher. The preacher held a girl with her but later told the girl to run to church. After a while, the preacher entered a house and Hajia still followed her. In the house, the preacher ran into a room but Hajia insisted she comes out. She shouted until people in the house came out. They saw Hajia injured and pleaded with her.” However, it was gathered that the Imam of a ratibi (small) mosque at Olubuse Street, Ile-Ife later intervened. When he intervened, the imam, it was learnt traced the Church of the preacher in the company of a police officer. “When they got to the Church, they didn’t meet the preacher. Members of the church initially said they didn’t know her until Hajia pointed to the girl that the woman came with to her house. “They later called their pastor, who apologised on the lady’s behalf,” Muhammed, one of the Muslims at Olubuse Street added. The iWitness NG also gathered that the case was reported at the Moore Police Station, Ile-Ife and the Chairman of Oduduwa Estate Community, Alhaji Balogun also intervened. When iWitness NG correspondent went to observe Ishai in a mosque at Oduduwa Estate, Olubuse Street on Sunday, the imam said, “As an update, we have resolved the matter. We were at the Police station this evening and the Christians agreed that they were faulty, pleaded with us and paid the hospital bill for the treatment of the Muslim lady injured.” The officer said the affected Muslim lady identified as Shakira studies at the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. “We have resolved the issue and proper settlement already took place,” the officer said. http://www.iwitness.com.ng/winners-chapel-preacher-beats-muslim-lady-for-refusing-to-accept-christ/ |

I respect other people's view on their religious convictions. And I do not mean to ridicule anybody. But I get flabbergasted seeing some students in Osun dressing in Cele and Choir apparels on school uniforms in an uncivil attempt to protest the hijab judgment. I don't think any sane person should waste his or her time on such transient distractions. Let them dress like that on school uniforms to British and US embassies for Visa and interviews. Lol! Also, those in Cele apparel on school uniforms can attend students fellowship in Redeem, Mountain of Fire or Four Square and see how they would be greatly honoured and welcomed. Then, those on the choir apparel on school uniforms can attend students fellowship in C&S and Cele churches. After all , Cele and Choir clothes are recognized among"global students' apparels" like the hijab. Lol! And when they get home, they should also wear the cele and choir apparels on their domestic clothes just like the Muslims wear their hijabs on every other apparel. |
