A man in his late twenties approached me to marry him. I was not attracted to him neither was he a very friendly person. I told my mom about it and she advised me to think about it carefully.

After much thought, I decided to refuse because he seemed in hurry to marry me even when he barely knew me.

My parents got so angry with me. They said I should say agree because he is God fearing, has a good job( he owns a school) and they like him. I still refused , the man told me to marry him because he likes me and my parents like him. I tried reasoning with him but he told me that in those days girls marry men their parents approve.

My parents have threatened to not support my schooling if I refuse. I have tried to love this guy but I just can't. My parents esp my mom like him too much. I am not allowed to say a bad word against him. I am in my final year at school and 19 year old.

What should I do?

What I see here is greed. At 16 she should be thinking of how to develop herself either through education or learning a trade, hand work and not thinking of how to make money.

In December 2014, I met this beautiful woman while I was enjoying the xmas and new year festivals with my parents in Ibadan. She is schooling here but lives in Ogun state. I never thought we could go far, so I wanted to chop and clean mouth. I was serving at the time and I told her I was serving at Abuja instead of Kwara state. After my NYSC I told her I have settled down in Abuja instead of Oyo state. I have a well-paid job and live comfortably but everything is in Oyo state and not FCT. I didn’t want her to know I am living nearby because I didn’t see a future with her at the time. She didn’t appear to me as a good girl when we met, I thought she was a runs girl but now I know I was wrong, she is even more innocent than me and she gets all I crave for in a lady. Well, I picked her up by the roadside but I didn’t get to sleep with her but we became friends and she still thinks I served, live and work in FCT. We usually see when there is a festivity or holiday like easter, xmas etc. under the pretext that I came to celebrate with my parents. Anyways, I want to propose to her now. I don’t know how to tell her the truth because we are now in love and I do not want to lose her. PLEASE NAIRALANDERS HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS WITHOUT LOSING HER.

Family was dysfunctional.

Mother, jealous of me and often did not want my progress. I caught my father looking at my bum a few times. I had a mental breakdown because of stresses in my life. Genral family problems e.g domestic violence. Family relationships deterioration to the point serious fights e.e.g. dad strangle me, police come etc.

They burnt all of my childhood photographs and I burnt most of their wedding pics only three remains. They threw me out but now my mum who has been battling with cancer is still unwell and misses me and wants me to come back and dad is 64 and I don't want him to bear the caring alone he also has arthritis and I have an autistic brother. I want to put the past behind and start a new life I am moving back home to take care of . my mother and be with my family I don't want Satan to break this family apart whether we like it or not we are family and it could be worse.
But I'm scared neighbours will judge me and I'm scared I'm making the wrong choice. I'm happy in my new rented room but II feel like I'm abandoning my mother. I'm her time of need. She originally told me to go but now wants me back I'm her only daughter and my brothers are not helpful.

I only see a genuine influence of getting a downgraded family back on track.... Now, you understood the mistake both u and ur family made (I want to believe you guyz are regretting it now). Since you have convinced your inner spirit to go home, just do. Coz you cannot tell, maybe you are the one God want to use for the family.

Thinking of your neighbors, your family priority comes first, after which, every other thing is a counterfeit. Go and save your family. My advice though, is, if you have a VERY UNDERSTANDING AND GOD FEARING pastor (not our Modern Day pastor ohh), you can speak to him so you can baptize yourself with prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to finish the work before you even get there. Reconciliation is paramount. Remain brave and blessed

Some Nigerians, when they return from abroad often display some nasty and childish habits when they return home, and these silly and childish attitudes are enlisted below;

1. Unnecessary use of foreign accent to intimidate local people

A huge number of Nigerians abroad doesnt live in English speaking Countries so not True about this accent thing

2. High level of Pride

Again not true..I mean what is there to be Proud of? The Truth is more than 60% percent of Nigerians wished they live back home and more would move back home if basic amenities are in place, so this again is not true

3. Unnecessary show off

Children-Teenagers might show off but majority of Adult doesnt see anything to show off about

4. They condemn our local dish

Now this very one shows you just Generalize for nothing...Do you know how Expensive Nigerian Food are abroad? Yet many Nigerians still buy them.. Some Travel for Miles just to go buy Nigerian food even as they teach the Westerners how to eat our food... Nigerian Restuarants in Major Cities abroad so this here is just not TRUE. We love and eat our Food very much! In Amsterdam here we Have African Kitchen, Obalade Suya. In Belgium a Taste of Africa, Ngozi Bar ..etc

5. They demand for undue Respect

Inferiority Complex I call this. Respect begets Respect... Nobody demands Respect without willing to Respect others

6. Hotel becomes their home

Not everybody stay in a Hotel... Those that can afford it stay there especially during their first time home, after that many stay in their family home or their own home if there is enough space... Again the Family Home may not be Conducive..ie so many people in the House..

7. They neglect their old friends

Hmmm!! Another LIE! If not our old friends, then who? Are we also bringing Friends with us back from Abroad back home? Or we stand on the street looking for new Friends?... My old friend is family to me now

8. They condemn our culture and values

Not True! In fact many Parents ship their Kids back home to Learn our Cultures, Respect and Tradition. I know many people that removed their Kids from school and brought them to Naija to school and they can later return back after graduation
