I just confirmed that late Dr Ike Enemuo hails from Anambra state and had some relatives in Owerri who visited his residence after his demise last weekend. His corpse which was deposited in UPTH morgue was only removed 2 days ago and the morgue was decontaminated yesterday. We should kindly treat all febrile\vomiting\diarrhea cases as EVD until proven otherwise.

unfortunately, it's not one love. In Nigeria, the yorubas dislike the igbos, the hausa kill the igbos, the igbos cheat the yoruba. tribalism is rampant. the doctors have been insulted by the Nigerian populace. now they are back at work. they would work but work within their limit.

I reliably learnt that the PA to the commissioner of lands and housing in Imo state died on Tuesday evening at his abode in Orji. He was vomiting blood prior to his demise which happened very rapidly after complaining of feeling unwell that evening. That's all that could be ascertained from second hand information. He was also in the habit of taking alcoholic beverages. Liberally too. The man has a wife and an infant.

Technology Market › Re: Are Android Tv Boxes Popular In Nigeria? by Leopantro: 7:46am On Aug 29, 2014
unless you have a market of die hard android fans, it's not so popular. i have the MK808 version and it took ages to sell the extras that i had but that could be due to location. make sure each unit comes with it's own wireless keyboard but also get wireless keypads that work VERY well with it. had to get an XBOX 360 wireless receivers to get a pad working with it.

alternatively, if you could install linux into some and get an external cd rom drive to work with it, you can sell it as the smallest linux PC for tech geeks that are interested. but remember that to connect to the net, the user must use a hotspot because Wifi access is not as common as it is over there.

hope that helps

This Ebola scare is becoming
more palpable than ever.
Almost all febrile illness has
Ebola as the top most
differential with its attendant
abandonment of patients. This
is really a bad time to have
malaria. The game playing out
in most centers is becoming
worrisome . A situation where
the nurses , after smelling
something sinister about a
patients presentation ,will
refuse to take the patients vital
signs and send him directly to
the consulting room to see the
doctor . then the doctor sees
the move as an act of terrorism
against his/ her person and
tactfully decline seeing the
patient , with the ready made
excuse that vital sign has not
been done! hence, patient
hangs . i don't really blame the
doctor or the nurse for taking
the extreme precaution to
protect themselves ,especially in
centers where most consulting
rooms do not have ordinary
running water , let alone , soap
& hand grooves. i blame the
government for this. you may
ask ,why always the
government? Yes, the
government!!! I'm already
depressed watching prof.
chukwu every evening on
network news ,misleading fellow
Nigerians with false ebola
statistics . instead of providing
diagnostic apparatus across all
tertiary hospitals so that
patients can be screened easily ,
he choose to sit tight in abuja
and be telling us who has died
& has been infected. I strongly
believe that this Ebola epidermic
is grossly under reported and
may be closer to every
practitioner than he/she may
imagine. Until federal ministry
of health wakes up from its
slumber , this ebola epidermic
may not be contained in the
near distant future. May God
bless Nigeria.

The Good heart hospital is where the Doctor ...Ikechukwu Sam Enemuo..was rushed to after he took ill with symptoms of Ebola. He was said to have operated on a woman on Monday presumably after secretly treating the diplomat. Fell ill next day Tuesday and died last Friday. No one knew about this hotel angle which was a very big risk he took...and unethical thing to do.. He was ill for 3 days...then started vomiting blood with bloody diarrhoea. He was rushed to Prime...where he was rejected and then taken to Good heart whose MD is a Cardiologist ..a consultant physician with UPTH. He died there. Good heart is on EVO road in GRA ph2 THE Doctor that died practices in East West Road Rumuokoro...Sam Steel clinic. The wife also a Doctor has a 3-month old baby. There may have been well over 200 contacts of this devilish diplomat who lured his young Doctor friend to treat him secretly and went back to Lagos. I hear he has eventually submitted himself for Ebola check in a bid to get a clearance certificate to fly out..he tested positive and is now quarantined in lagos..It's quite a calamity unfolding in Ph. Unfortunately Ph health facilities are not quite ready to contain Ebola at the moment. There are American experts and federal and WHO health workers in town however training Drs and other healthworkers and helping out with contact tracing etc Please we need to be on the watch, as victims might try to avoid going to the clinic because they don't want to be quarantined. Ebola is a deadly virus and we need to help the government spot out possible case so we can be free again.

the doctor was treating the diplomat in a hotel. the wife of the doctor is currently ill and she just had a baby a few weeks ago.

it's not that the diplomat had
EBOLA written on his

on the phone saying that he is
sick and ready to pay ANY
PRICE you name for you to
treat him but you must treat
him at his house or hotel. the
doctor asks " have you
travelled recently" the reply "
No". have you come in contact
with anyone with suspected
ebola "No, stop insulting me
by asking such questions and
do your job. after all, I'm
paying you". considering that
tests to confirm ebola is only
done in lagos or Edo state,
you can't say " wait, let me
send these samples to those
states while you stay
untreated".
my only fear is the number of
persons that visited the
diplomat and the doctor at
home to see the baby as well
as the hotel staff that catered
to the diplomat.
imagine the above
conversation in a government
hospital now that the strike
has been called off.

i wonder how many other house calls and how many guest visited the wife AFTER he treated the man in the hospital.

Health › Nigerian Health Minister Says N1.9 Bn ‘ebola Fund’ Will Be Used For Cars, Others by Leopantro(op): 10:16am On Aug 27, 2014
Amidst angry reactions trailing the unavailability of the N1.9 billion released by President Goodluck Jonathan for the management of Ebola, the Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has denied the money was for the management of the virus.
Mr. Chukwu’s denial came Tuesday despite an official statement from the federal government to the contrary.
On August 8, at the peak of the Ebola crisis, the president, in a press release signed by Reuban Abati, announced the release of N1.9 billion as a Special Intervention Fund for the management of Ebola.
“President Jonathan also approved a Special Intervention Plan and the immediate release of N1. 9 billion for its implementation, to further strengthen on-going steps to contain the virus such as the establishment of additional isolation centres, case management, contact tracing, deployment of additional personnel, screening at borders, and the procurement of required items and facilities.
“The President commends the vigilance of aviation and health authorities in Lagos who identified and isolated the index case in Nigeria, the late Patrick Sawyer, an American-Liberian who flew into the country,” the statement read.
On Tuesday, however, Mr. Chukwu denied that the money was released for the management of Ebola. The Minister of Health said the money was approved for the Ministry of Health.
“The N1.9billion approved by the president was for the federal ministry of health. It is not for Ebola fund. It will be used to procure more vehicles for working which have been ordered. It would be used to procure more drugs that have been ordered…and other items.
“In the case of Lagos state, after the president met commissioners of health, the president then asked the minister of health to discuss with the technical people and money has been approved for Lagos state,” he said.
He further stated that though the world is at risk, the federal ministry of health is ready to face any outbreak.
“Excellence is a journey, it’s never a destination. The federal ministry of health is ready to face any outbreak.
“Every country and every citizen of the world remains at risk but Nigeria is on top of the situation so we don’t want people to panic. We should be in charge but not panic” he said.
The Lagos State government had complained that it did not receive the funds released for the management of Ebola despite being the epicentre of the management of the infection in the country.

hardbody: Bros you can rage and foam in the mouth for all i care. I respect Dr. Adadevoh and the conscious steps she took to help save 170m Nigerians. However, the history books will not delete the fact that when Ebola came calling, Nigerian Doctors, all of whom swore 'the Hippocratic or is it Hypocritical Oath as is the case in Nigeria, remained on strike. We have noted that a few good doctors exist. The rest should go and die. This singular incident has further cemented my dislike for doctors in this country. If the NMA was even half smart, the Ebola issue would have been a window of opportunity for them to have called off the strike. Nigeria would have stood up for them. Their recalcitrance befuddled even the stewpid.
she worked in a private hospital so tecnically she couldn't have gone on strike. also, she was paid to do her work by the private hospital so what she did was her work and not for the 170m Nigerian. finally, she was an endocrinologist not an infectious disease doctor thus she didn't have the complete clinical skills to properly take care of the man

Health › Doctor's Strike; Comparison Between Nigeria And Pakistan by Leopantro(op): 6:30pm On Aug 21, 2014
Young Doctors in Punjab achieved victory on Wednesday 7 November after a struggle that lasted over two years. More than 22,000 young doctors in Punjab were united in their demands for better wages and service structure under the banner of a new organisation called Young Doctors Association (YDA).
With a modest start in 2009 the YDA spread rapidly across Punjab under its young, energetic and revolutionary leadership. Getting inspiration from the Punjab, chapters of YDA were formed in other parts of country making demands for basic rights.
Health is one of the most neglected sectors in Pakistan. Less than one per cent is allocated for this sector in the budget. More than 80 per cent of population is forced to use non-scientific medicine due to expensive and rare health facilities. More than 500,000 women die every year during child birth. Around 50 per cent of children have stunted growth due to malnutrition.
In government hospitals the situation is horrible. Two to three patients share one bed. However, those who get a bed are the luckiest. Most people can’t even reach Government hospitals because they live in far off places. Many die during the journey. Some who do reach the hospitals are denied entry, others are treated while lying on the floors.
On top of that pharmaceuticals are also killing many. There is no proper check and balance for medicines. Recently more than 100 patients died in privileged Punjab Institute of Cardiology Lahore due to fake medicines. Not a single person has been arrested yet for this horrible crime. Pharmaceuticals normally have up to 500 per cent of profit margin and it’s particularly high on life saving drugs. Often crucial life saving drugs are stocked and sold through black market.
In recent years the government has cut the already tiny health budget. Diagnostic machinery seldom operates and operation theatres and wards have no hygienic safety, they lack electricity and other basic necessities. At the same time the business of private medical hospitals, testing laboratories and pharmaceuticals is flourishing. They charge exorbitant fees for providing basic health facilities. Even then one is not sure if he or she is getting right treatment. In order to get a fee from patients for the running their private hospitals, doctors do not give correct advice to patients. That is why the rulers of this country prefer treatment in Europe or America. Parliamentarians and senior government officials go abroad for treatment paid by public funds.
In this situation the movement of young doctors was a ray of hope. They not only had to struggle against oppression of Government but had to fight against the fury of senior doctors who were making huge money from this health business.
Starting with demands for higher wages and better working conditions, the YDA moved on to demand better health facilities. All across Punjab banners were displayed in all hospitals mentioning the problems with health facilities in hospitals. YDA also demanded a ban on doctors having a private practice during government service. YDA also pointed out the lack of diagnostic machines at hospitals and other basic equipment.
All these demands and protest were met by oppression by the state. Police baton charged and arrested many young doctors. YDA then moved to an all-out strike in government hospitals. Government used this occasion to slander the struggle of the doctors using the servile media. Young doctors only boycotted outpatient departments while emergency services were operational. Actually many patients of OPD were being treated in emergencies but media painted a negative picture of young doctors and branded them killers. Army doctors were brought in to operate hospitals to present a people friendly picture of the barbaric army of Pakistan. These doctors were also insufficient and incapable of getting hospitals operational.

During this strike when the YDA leadership was having a meeting of General Council to plan its strategy, a heavy contingent of police attacked them. They were severely beaten and put in jails in far off areas with hardened criminals and terrorists. One young doctor was beaten so badly that he had was paralysed. Many doctors had their legs broken. 5 doctors were charged with false charges of murder and their trial was begun in court. A few minutes after this attack all young doctors themselves stopped emergency services in government hospitals.

Meanwhile, the corrupt judiciary came in support of the ruthless government and declared the strike illegal. They ordered an end to the strike. At this time the doctors, with pressure building against them, called end to the strike. The government in turn released all arrested doctors.
Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign supported YDA in this struggle for better health facilities from the very beginning. At this important juncture PTUC explained the character of the state, its oppressive role, the corrupt role of judiciary and other state institutions. Also it explained the reasons for the poor health facilities and how Capitalism is the root of all these ills.

Though the movement did not achieve its goal at that point, spirits were high. Meetings of young doctors were held in all hospitals of Punjab to discuss future strategy and tactics. Comrades of PTUDC visited almost all these meetings and explained their point of view of class unity. Also the PTUDC went to many trade unions and asked them to support the YDA in their struggle. In this situation the unions of professors and lecturers, post office and telecommunication workers, water and power department, EMCO industries and many other sectors supported on the call of the PTUDC. The Progressive Youth Alliance also gathered support for the YDA from many student organisations like JKNSF, BSO, PSF and others.
PTUDC linked the struggle of the YDA with better health facilities. PTUDC and YDA also tried to get support from the nurses association and hospital workers, who were inspired by the YDA and were also protesting for their rights. An association of young nurses was formed during the struggle called Young Nurses Association.
This helped a lot in boosting the morale of the young doctors. They continued their struggle with protests outside their hospitals but the government was hell bent on repression.

Then the YDA decided to hold a long march to the Chief Minister Secretariat on the 7th of November. More than 4,000 young doctors arrived in Lahore on the morning of the 7th. Comrades from PTUDC were also there to welcome them.
When the long march started the rulers were shaking in their boots and within few hours announced a new service structure for doctors. The YDA leadership announced this victory and the long march turned in to a victory march.
Though the government has still not accepted many of the demands, at least 56 demands have been accepted which is the first time in 65 year history of Pakistan. All the trumped-up criminal charges against the doctors were also dismissed which proves the corrupt role of the judiciary and police. After this victory the YDA has thanked PTUDC for its support.

On 20th October a meeting was held in Services Hospital Lahore jointly by PTUDC and YDA. More than 300 workers, trade union and student leaders from many institutions attended this meeting. Comrade Greg Oxley from France gave a speech in this meeting. He also read out solidarity messages for YDA from many trade union organisations of France. Workers from Coca Cola and many other industrial sectors also supported YDA.
The fight for better health facilities will continue but this is an important mile stone in struggle against the corrupt state which is destroying the lives of people. Capitalism is horror without end. We believe that only through a socialist revolution can this misery be brought to an end.
