FutureDon: I did too, but found nothing insightful. If true, one would expect to see published papers or citations demonstrating its efficacy/replicability. In addition, one would expect a novel discovery as this one (if truly it is) to be published in high impact journal.
no study has been done in regards to ebola and bitter kola but if you could check Africa Health journal, sometime in 2012, you would come across a study done on bitter kola. i had a copy of that journal but can't locate it.

if this petition works and the strike is called off, will another petition be submitted when another strike starts again? wouldn't it be better getting to the root of the problem rather than cutting the weed at the stem?
i recall an online petition that was started when a governor married an underaged girl or when a pastor slapped a woman as well as when 20bn dollars got missing. what happened to such petitions?
Health › Re: Revisiting The Nma Strike - My Candid Opinion by Leopantro: 11:53pm On Jul 31, 2014
thanks for posting the link. i do hope you reas through all the 111 comments on that page. came across some very insightfull writeups there. for the benefit of those who wouldn't bother to go through the link, i would like to paste something here.we try to copy conditions in USA but skip what we don't like.

I really think that one should be
careful to assume where the shoe
pinches on someone else's feet! I
have practiced in Nigeria and now
in the US and as strongly as I have
felt about the state of the
healthcare system in Nigeria, I
have refrained from making
sweeping statements. The health
system in Nigeria is not the same
as that in the UK or US. Nurses in
the US can become Nurse
Practitioners after doing a
doctorate and do see patients but
they are not called Consultants.
Physician assistants love their jobs
because they get to see patients
but their is still oversight from a
physician. You may provide
consulting services to an insurance
company but that does not make
you a medical consultant the way
the term consultant is used in
Nigeria.
In all, we should remember that
team work is what makes a
healthcare system work. The FG
has conveniently used the current
state of animosity to foster
divisions and the members keep
seeing evil in each other instead of
joining hands to fight for a
sustainable health system for
everyone to work together without
fear and for the good of the
patient. Remember you also could
be a patient one day and all you
would want is the best hands
treating you.
Hospital administration: hot issue.
In the US, many hospitals are out
to make money and the CEO may
not be a doctor. However, there
are executive medical directors
who are physicians and in charge
of the medical side of things. In
Nigerian State Hospitals, there is
no fracas about who is in charge, I
suspect many of these issues occur
in our teaching hospitals, and I
may be wrong....... There is a DA in
charge of Administration,a CMAC in
charge of clinical services and the
CMD is the equivalent of the EMD
here. If there is a board to whom
the CMD is answerable,it allows for
checks and balances and helps
everyone feel they have voice. I am
not sure that the clamor to be CMD
by ancillary staff is legitimate
based on the healthcare system we
run in Nigeria. It's just a different
chain of command as compared to
what obtains in the US where you
have a CEO who usually is someone
with a Healthcare MBA, who
actually sometimes is also a
doctor.
One last point, every profession
has value. If you see value in what
you do, you are content within its
provisions for career development
and seek to excel at it. If you are a
nurse, nurse with all your heart;a
doctor,be your best at your
profession, a lab scientist , produce
consistent accurate results, a
pharmacist,help in picking up drug
errors and we can all ensure a safe
system for patients.

Do not so sure. How do you keep someone against his will for 21 days? Fake pastors and traditional doctors would have a field day. You would be surprised what fear is capable of doing to do called intelligent people

Health › Another Suspected Case Of Ebola by Leopantro(op): 10:33pm On Jul 30, 2014
A worker at the the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, who assisted Patrick Sawyer, the Ebola victim who died in Lagos last week, is suspected to have been infected with the dreaded disease, having come down with fever.

Although it is still not confirmed if he has tested positive to the Ebola disease, as he is still under observation as at the time of reporting, anyone who has had contacts with a patient is at high risk, thus the reason for the suspicion.

“Yes. I just received a text alerting me that he is sick,” a source who is a member of the expert committee on Ebola told the icirnigeria.org on Wednesday afternoon in Lagos.

The sick man whose identity is not clear at this the time of reporting is one of those who were being monitored and he is coming down with the signs of high body temperature and fever, within the incubation period of 2-21 days.

This is characteristic of the initial signs at the onset of Ebola.

Indications are that he might have contracted the virus while helping Sawyer or after coming in contact with his personal effect, since the virus is renowned for its rapid spread through contacts with body fluids such as blood, urine, saliva, tears and even sweat of infected persons.

Late Sawyer, a senior official of the Liberian government, who arrived Lagos on Sunday July 20 is the first confirmed case of ebola in Nigeria.

The Lagos State health commissioner, Jide Idris, had said on Monday that it has reached a total of 59 persons who had physical contact with the late Sawyer.

Of this number, 20 had so far been screened on Monday, he said and none tested positive, but they were all still under observation.

Ebola has killed over 700 people with 1093 suspected cases of infection in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea since February.

Once infected, it takes between 2-21 days for the virus to incubate, and symptoms usually start off with fever, high temperature, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat then it graduates to committing and diarrhoea , rash, impaired kidney
and liver function and, finally, bleeding from orifices of the body such as eyes, nose, mouth, et cetera.

Those who were with him on his flight from Monrovia to Lome and Lagos were yet to be traced on Monday when Idris addressed the Press as he said the airline had not released manifest of passengers.

Do you know what's funny about the picture? The nose guard. It is completely ineffective against the virus. Over 10,000 viruses can pass through the space a single bacteria can through.

QuiverBox: So who suffers? ,
Is it the common man that can't afford the drugs or the governent officials in power that can afford the drugs.

So what is we don't get the subsidies for HIV drugs.

Malaria is the No1 killer disease in Nigeria if the USA love us so much how come malaria drug aint free or subsidized.?

Instead of crying over sactions why, can't we think of ways to to become independent.

Are you saying Nigeria can't survive without Grants or subsidy?
With the insensitive government we have that doesn't care about the populace, currently we can't be independent. Total cost of oral antimalarials is less than two thousand. Total cost of anti-retroviral for a month is between N37,000- N50,000 depending on which combination of drugs. How many can speed afford that for 6 months. Currently, NHS caters to just 30% of the population.

Politics › Re: 10 US Senators Write Obama Demanding Sanctions Against Nigeria. by Leopantro: 4:14pm On Jul 29, 2014
My initial reaction is to condemn such an action but indirect sanctions have already started. The US has started reducing subsides of HIV and TB drugs and other health commodities to Nigeria. Such drugs are very expensive but Nigerians get it for free. Very soon we would have to start paying for those drugs and very very few can afford them.

Webmasters › How To Create A Lightweight Web Page In Seconds by Leopantro(op): 7:12pm On Jul 26, 2014
There are so many different ways to put up text on the internet. You’ve got Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Medium, Tumblr and, of course, the way of creating a website on your own.

If you just want to write something quickly and have it accessible to anyone in the world, your best bet is posting it on a blog or a website. But then you have to sign up for an account, deal with messy menus and extra features, do some editing, and finally upload it.

There’s a much faster way to do this. If you just want to share some text, there’s a simple website called txti.es. This can be especially helpful if you want to communicate with people in developing nations. Many countries in Africa and Asia still don’t have high speed internet. Your fancy blog with high resolution pictures might not even open on their Java cell phones.

You know what will though? Plain and simple text.

How To Create A Web page With txti

Step 1: Go to the txti website.

Step 2: Enter the title for the page. This will show up in the title bar of your browser.

Step 3: Enter any text you want in the Content box. You can just enter plain text or use Markdown. Markdown is a simple markup language for the web. You may see what formatting is supported in txti.

Basic Markdown formatting includes wrapping a word in single asterisks for italics and two asterisks for bold. You can also use # sign before a sentence to turn it into a heading.

If you don’t want to do any formatting, that’s fine as well. Just enter the plain text.

Step 4: Choose your custom URL. The web page will be hosted on txti servers and will be assigned a random short URL by default. But you can change that to anything you want. If you choose “anywhereintheworld” for example, the complete URL will be www.txti.es/anywhereintheworld.

That’s it. Agree to the terms and conditions, click Save your txti button and your webpage will be generated. You are free to send this link to anyone you want.

The next page will show you the link to your web page and where you need to go incase you want to edit it.

You’ll need a code to make any edits. Copy the code somewhere safe or have it emailed to you from the email box at the bottom of the page.

You can collaborate with other people on a txti webpage. Just send them the link and the edit code.

How Will You Use txti?
This free tool can be used for anything text related you can think of.
