simonlee:The government said they proscribed the IMN and not all of the Shi'ites as a religion. IMN is both a political and religious movement. Shi'ites marking Ashura are purely carrying out a religious procession and not a political one. How can the police even know that all those Shi'ites in the procession are IMN members? What of those that are not? Shi'ites are known the world over, in different countries, for carrying out religious procession especially when they are marking Ashura. |
The IGP yesterday threatened Nigerian citizens with death if they embark on a peaceful religious procession. After killing people on the procession, media houses will be reporting that Shi'ites "clashed" with police. After that threat, whatever happens today should not be regarded as a "clash" but an assault and attack on Shi'ites. What happens to the government declaration that they are banning an organization and not the Shi'ite religion? Is this not a religious procession? Why forcefully disperse them? Where is the respect for freedom of religion? Is it not the same Ashura procession that takes place here in the heart of London peacefully? Does the British police attack Shi'ites during their procession? Or are Nigerians now living in Wahhabi Saudi Arabia? There is freedom of religion in Nigeria and there is religious tolerance. This rubbish of attacking peaceful religious processions should stop. |

The IGP is apparently threatening Nigerian citizens with death for embarking on a peaceful religious procession. After killing people on the procession, media houses will be reporting that Shi'ites "clashed" with police. After this threat, whatever happens later today should not be regarded as a "clash" but an assault and attack on Shi'ites. |
If South Africa na Muslim country, we no for hear word. But now people no remember say South Africans are Christians who are carrying out brutal attacks on other humans. |
franchasng:Trying to accuse the western countries of greed because our politicians are thieves is just another way of justifying and legitimizing criminality by criminals. It is that simple to understand your posts (for those trying to make it seem that a wrong can justify another). Whatever crimes or atrocities politicians commit in Nigeria is not the duty of the western governments to checkmate. Nigeria is a sovereign nation. Except you want western nations to recolonize Nigeria and rule over us. Talking about not issuing visa etc. is asking another nation to take action regarding Nigerian matters. And often times, when it doesn't involve war and killings on large scale, western nations won't interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. Before seeking ideas to legitimize scam in your skewed minds, educate yourselves how international politics and relations work. If you have a leadership crisis in your country, it is the responsibility of the people to do something about it. As much as you would want to blame everything on leadership and its failures, there are Nigerians cheering on bad leadership. So we are problems to our own selves before trying to blame western nations. Western nations don't vote in our elections, they don't buy or sell votes and they didn't force anyone to deposit looted monies into their banks. They didn't force anyone to apply for visas either. I am by no means justifying the actions or inactions of western governments. I am only telling you to stop looking for ways to justify the criminality of our own brothers by apportioning blame and playing the blame game. By the time western nations stop issuing visas, you will still complain because it will affect everyone. Not issuing visa to the relatives of corrupt politicians won't stop the online criminals from still applying for visa and wanting to settle in the western countries to commit fraud. You're only pampering crime with your excuses and justifications by trying to shift the ball into the court of western nations. |
Elliot2:I think the government has not informed the public well. They have demonized Zakzaky and turned him into a terrorist that many people felt he was held in a prison, and his followers felt he was been maltreated. The government should have simply maintained its narration of protective custody from the start. Then bring in journalists to highlight he was not treated badly. The government should simply make it clear he is been held to prevent him from rallying his many followers and causing traffic problems etc. The attempt to demonize him can be seen as using a hammer to kill a fly. This man isn't as dangerous as we have been made to think. If he was that dangerous, after the Zaria Massacre and the killings targeting his followers and their processions, hell would have been let loose. Correctly informing the public, and seeking more diplomatic channels can actually solve this man's issues. Even the issues of disorderliness, blocking roads etc can all be resolved peacefully and alternatives presented, even if he is freed. Let them practice their religion but should not disturb others and should not act in any lawless manner. |
He said he was not in prison. That he was in detention in a house in a government area, near where the senate president live. That he was free to move around the house compound. We all know that he was in house arrest and not in a prison from the images circulated in the news when it was rumored that he had died. Even if he is in Aso Rock, if his freedom of movement and association are restricted, then that is called detention. He is held against his will. He was comparing his treatment in Nigeria to his treatment in India. He was more restricted in India that he couldn't leave his hospital room. The main problem about his trip to India that he complained of is being refused access to see his own doctors and a set of doctors unknown to him, whom he doesn't trust, presented to treat him. |
How much blood money was this psychologist paid to turn the miseries of another man into a comedy? When the man dies in custody, then all these paid pens will find rest. A man who lost six sons to the bullets of soldiers, had his sister killed, himself and his wife brutalized and thrown into a wheelbarrow, had hundreds of his followers dumped into a mass grave after the Zaria Massacre, and held for four years without bail is been lampooned by a supposed learned man with a loud mouth from UNILAG. Humanity is dead. So if he is severely sick he should allow doctors he doesn't trust to operate on his body and his wife? There is already mistrust between the two parties. Why add actions that will deepen the mistrust and create more suspense? What would anyone lose, if the man was truly acting for the government to allow him have his own set of doctors to treat him? Since as this semi literate psychologist posited that the Indian government is a no nonsense government, and will not play to the script of Zakzaky, what would the FG lose by drawing the carpet under Zakzaky's feet and allowing him choose his own doctors to treat him? India is already not going to give in to his "gimmicks", as the author suggested and will likely not grant him asylum. Why then not shut his excuse and allow him have his own doctors treat him? Why the insistence? The more the FG and its paid writers try to defend themselves on Zakzaky's India trip and paint bad Zakzaky, the more fishy the entire episode appears and the more questions will pop up. It just stirs more doubts in the mind of any right thinking person, who is humane and neutral. Zakzaky maybe all the evil and clownish character the government wants us to believe. But has the government given us the necessary evidence and opportunity not to doubt its own perspective? |
seanfer:The court granted him permission to seek medical care. The court did not make it a condition that the government must select which doctors will attend to him. |
Charmingrascal:He and his group are claiming the government tried to assassinate him using unknown doctors in India. That's their claim. See the other thread on the topic. The government should not even attempt to tell him which doctors to make use of because of his health condition and age and the sensitivity of the matter. Any mishap by the doctors, the government would carry responsibility. Let him choose his own doctors and let them treat him or kill him. That would be his business. Why drink panadol for another man's headache? |
Charmingrascal:Don't curse yourself. Are you wishing to be in his state of health? He has bullet fragments in his body causing lead poisoning that could result in organ failure. I don't know what this government is keeping such a liability in custody for. The man is already broken. |
What is the reason he was denied access to his own doctors? The IHRC has been following this case since. They even visited him in Nigeria. Indian Shi'ites have been protesting in his support since. If he wanted asylum, why did he agree to return? Why didn't Shi'ite groups in India lobby their government or lodge a case in an Indian court to hear his asylum plea? It is obvious the government feels embarrassed that the news is spreading that someone sent for treatment was denied access to his doctors and presented with a set of doctors he had no foreknowledge of. Send this man to go and get the needed medical attention. Let him treat his one eye left and remove the bullet fragments in his body. We don't want him to die in government custody. We also don't want more interruption in our daily lives in Abuja and threat of protests and violence and stray bullets. Why is the government detaining his wife with him? Does she not have her own fundamental human rights? Why won't she cry that her six sons were killed? Is that true or not? Please dash this man to another country through a solid agreement he shouldn't interfere in Nigeria affairs. Let him stay away and let us rest. |
Why shouldn't he be treater by his own doctors? Isn't bubu treated by his own doctors? Isn't that the reason given for always flying to London? That his own doctors from decades is in London? |
Onlyonebuhari:So it was zakzaky that was standing on the road blocking the convoy of buratai? Sunnis block our roads every Friday during jumat. No one blinks. Because Shi'ites are minority, they have no right to religious processions. Even traditional worshipers impose curfew on neighborhoods when they bring out masquerade. No one has accused them of state within a state or used brute force to massacre them. Whatever their offence was, they don't deserve to be arbitrarily killed like animals. But those you're asking me to ask are people who believe others should be killed because of their faith. So I am not surprised. |
Yusman316:If PMB is so neutral in all of this, why did he condone the Zaria Massacre during his media chat in 2015? A mass grave came into existence under his rule and he cannot do anything about it? If it is El Rufai that is causing all the tension, the president as the C in C is supposed to caution the governor or even sack him. We are talking about a mass grave here after the Zaria Massacre. A war crime that can see the president and El Rufai prosecuted after they leave office and the ICC asking for their custody and transfer to the Hague. Most of you people don't know how international politics works. And sadly, the leaders themselves are too drunk with power that they forget one day they will leave office and become ordinary citizens whom justice can catch up with. This Zakzaky issue is a long drama that will play out for more than a decade to come, thanks to the Zaria Massacre. |
Siralgebra04:Lies. Fake news. Jonathan, Obasanjo and Yaradua did not imprison him. Only Sunni Muslims army generals with links to Wahhabi Saudi Arabia who became heads of state detained him. |
asfrank:Three sons were killed during the Zaria Massacre in December 2015 under buhari. Three were killed in 2014 when Jonathan was president. There was a road clash incident with soldiers in 2014. Jonathan didn't order for the man's children to be killed. Jonathan apologized to him and called him. Zakzaky rejected Jonathan's apology and said he wanted justice. El Rufai took to twitter to jubilate that Zakzaky rejected Jonathan's sorry. https://mobile.twitter.com/elrufai/status/509357416275009536 The same El Rufai that is persecuting Zakzaky today went to pay condolence visit to Zakzaky in Zaria. The pictures are all over the net of a bowing El Rufai shaking the hand of Zakzaky. The question now is if the man is guilty, why are they detaining the wife with him? What has she done? Doesn't she have her own fundamental human rights? Why would they allow the man to go to India and then the government refuses him the chance to see his doctors? What is the interest of a government insisting that a patient like zakzaky not be treated by the doctors he chooses? What if the man dies? Does the government want to bear the consequences? Whatever happens, they should just make sure this man does not die in their detention. We don't want another crisis in the country. In fact, they should dash him to another country. Let him seek asylum and stay there. I thought him going to India would be the end of this issue. I was expecting he would be allowed to seek asylum and stay there. |
Simplyleo:It means we are back to square one. His people will soon start protesting on the streets of Abuja and the security officers will start shooting at them risking the lives of people that are unconcerned with to this matter and disrupting the peace. |

The man said in his interview that he was not allowed to have his own doctors in India to treat him. According to his words, they wanted to succeed through the hospital in India what the bullets did not succeed in doing to him in Nigeria. He apparently had doctors he frequented in that hospital in India before his arrest. I really don't know why someone would choose to go to India. This man can afford to ask to go to a European country or an advanced Muslim country for treatment. It is even risky for the government to take him to a place like India. The government should not have accepted because India is not the best place for medical. Any mishap, the government would straightaway be accused of conniving with doctors to kill him. It is good he is returning. Let him return and a solution would be found later on for where to take him to extract his bullet fragments in his body that's causing him lead poisoning and treat his other ailments. But why is his wife also detained with him? What did she commit? Why not release the poor woman? I learnt she is a Yoruba woman from Oyo. Her health is reported not good too. She's even on a wheelchair. These are parents that have lost six grown sons to the bullets of soldiers. One cannot really consider them as mentally stable anymore. |
Let us hope this is not another style used for religious persecution. First, it was the Shi'ites. And probably, now it is the Ahmadiyyah sect. The Ahmadiyyah are an offshoot/breakaway Sunni sect formed in Pakistan about a hundred or so years ago. The mainstream Sunnis, especially the fanatical, extremists and terror-indulgent Wahhabis regard them as heretics deserving of death just as they regard the Shi'ites. Let us hope this isn't another guise to persecute a minority Muslim group. |

gidgiddy:The speaker is Igbo and he is Shi'ite Muslim. He likkeky lived or was born or grew up in Kaduna. I have seen his profile on social media. |
They are Igbo Muslims. They are Shia too. And they also belong to Zakzaky's IMN. I have come across the speaker on social media. He is a full blooded Igbo brother and he is a Shi'ite Muslim. |
ChristiMystical:You are very correct. They are Igbo Muslims. They are Shia too. And they also belong to Zakzaky's IMN. I have come across the speaker on social media. He is a full blooded Igbo brother and he is a Shi'ite Muslim. |
Spreading lies that are actually what you really are. Shi'ites are not a new sect or new ideology in Islam. The IMN is a new emerging group in Nigeria, some decades old. The Shia have existed for centuries in the middle east. They're as old as Islam itself. They are the first revolutionary and reform movement within Islam. They do not see other faiths as idol worshipers because they don't share the deadly Takfiri ideology that Wahhabis believe in. Sunnis have always persecuted the Shia. If we can accommodate and tolerate Sunnis, after all the bloodshed in the name of religion and your Boko Haram and attacks on churches and Christians, it would be far better and easier to coexist with Shi'ites, who are more learned and liberal towards other faiths. |
