I have being into fish farming for the past few years. I ventured into small poultry and snail farming about a year ago. I started the snail with about 60 pieces, today i have over 600 snails.Just last week i did sorting i picked over 250 pieces of small snail which i have to transfer to another pen.

As regards Grasscutter, i just picked my first colony (family) about two months ago. They are doing fine

Based on my observation, both the snail and Grasscutter requires patient, they are not the kinds of business you rush to in order to make quick money. Snail farming is not like our fish or poultry that you can start selling from 3 months. Likewise the Grasscutter it takes a year or more to attained the market size.

The pictures were taken last week when i did the sorting.

@pharmzy,
Another reason could be when their water is polluted I.e dirty, you have to regularly change your water. Oxygen is highly required for the digestion of the food, dirty water deprive the fish the required oxygen.

Drain the water completely, refill to a level just to cover the fish then apply some quantity of salt. Leave the water at that level for for an hour, then fill up. You may repeat this the following day or next depend on the result. Tetracycline sometimes affect the growth of fish if not carefully apply.

Pls, we need to get this right. Practically, there are no two farms that are the same!. The more you visit other farms the wealthier your experience.
Your farm setting has a lot to do in hatchery mechanism.
I can vividly tell you here that as regards hatching no amount of talk here can satisfied ur need. Invite an experience person for your first and second hatching and you are good to carry on from there.

Dbounty, it is easier to raise juvenile to table size using trial and error method compare to hatching. No one is perfect, but you need a good knowledge of hatching techniques. Lack of such knowledge could result into losing virtually all fries within few days, which is very rare in juveniles. I will advice u to visit farms that do hatch, and also engage and experience hand in your first and second trial.

Ijobaorun: Pls what is the importance of feeding my fishes on a spot? I used to sprinkle their feeds allover the pond.

Feeding at a spot enable you determine when the fishes are satisfied. As over feeding could pollute the water, likewise under feeding will affect the growth rate. Feed at a Spot.

I believe the location and the targeted customers at the location will come to place in determine the capital base. But in most cases 150-200k should be good for start up. As times goes on you can be ploughing back your profit/income.
