Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday presided over the monthly National Economic Council (NEC) at the State House.
In a tweet by Mr. Laolu Akande, the spokesperson to the Prof. Osinbajo, NEC is the constitutional body that advises the President on the coordination of the economic affairs of the country.
He noted that state governors, the Central Bank of Nigeria governor and some members of the Federal Executive Council were in attendance.
“Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is now presiding over the monthly National Economic Council, NEC meeting with state governor, CBN governor and some members of the FEC,” he tweeted.
He then added that, “NEC is the constitutional body that advises the President on the coordination of economic affairs of the Nigerian federation.
NEC under the leadership of Prof Osinbajo between 2015 to April 2019 passed 173 resolutions in 38 meetings.
Some of the resolutions include the approval of $650 million seed funding as the Federal Government established Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund.
NEC also approved Community Policing in Nigeria as well as synergy among security agencies in a bid to improve intelligence gathering and end internal security crisis which included kidnapping.
The Council approved the National Transformation Livestock Plan (NLTP) which was launched by the Vice President in Adamawa on September 10.
NEC under Osinbajo’s leadership approved Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) clinics to help MSME with loans, materials and to make the process of doing business easy.

Federal Government and State governments decided on National Livestock Transformation Plan, NLTP as a ranching option for livestock breeding.

States determine the implementation methods in their respective States, while both the Federal Government and the States will share the costs.

National Livestock Transformation Plan was approved by State governors under the auspices of the National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

NEC on January 17, 2019, approved the plan based on the recommendations of a Technical Committee of the Council chaired by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State. Other State Governors on the committee and Working Group of NEC are those from Adamawa, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Edo, Plateau, Oyo & Zamfara - mostly the frontline States in the Farmer-Herder crises.

The National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) 2019-2028 is a programme to be implemented in 7 pilot states of Adamawa, Benue, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba and Zamfara (as decided by NEC in January), being States in the frontlines of the Farmer-Herder crises. Afterwards, six other States have indicated readiness to also implement the plan. They are Katsina, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Ondo, and Edo states.

The plan has six pillars through which it aims to transform the livestock production system in Nigeria along market oriented value chain while ensuring an atmosphere of peace and justice.

The six key pillars include:
• economic investment
• conflict resolution
• justice and peace
• humanitarian relief and early recovery
• human capital development and
• cross-cutting issues such as gender, youth, research and information and strategic communication.
In all the Federal Government will not impose on any State government regarding its land.

RENO OMOKRI: The Misfortunes of an Errand Boy

By Olayinka Williams

Reno Omokri’s obsession with the Osinbajo name is no longer news and quite frankly, I think he draws breath and finds a considerable level of solace in either tweeting or posting about the bearer.

Should he be blamed? He's a failed assistant to a past president, his reputation is grasping straws and his relevance to the republic and humanity at large is fast dwindling, if I was he, I'd take a jab at anyone and anything to stay on the radar too.

Life and its beautiful ironies, isn’t it quite a thing of astonishment that Reno Omokri sees himself sacrosanct enough, a worthy advocate to kick against the policies of the current administration and an unarguably active Vice President? Reno’s darts must’ve been invented an administration too late.

Reno Omokri, the man who has continued to unrepentantly monetize for personal use, the unfortunate Leah Sharibu incident; printing and selling shirts to all who genuinely care for the young lady, employing the #FreeLeahSharibu hashtag to trend his unrelated social media shenanigans?

Omokri who on finding out about the worthlessness of his own book on Amazon quickly put pen to paper leveraging on Leah’s predicament to write another piece currently selling for $16 on the same website? Visiting churches worldwide introducing himself as a pastor and selling them the books while speaking about a nonexistent war on Christianity in Nigeria?

The same Reno who wound up in a filthy scandal after exploiting his relationship as brother-in-law to a California-based woman, Deborah Campbell, and wrote a malicious article in her son’s name (Wendell Simlin) in an attempt to link the spike in Boko Haram attacks to the suspension of Mr. Sanusi as CBN Governor in 2014?

Reno’s silliness dates as far back as far could imply and I’d be damned to take a man obviously suffering from inexplicable heights of boredom and redundancy seriously. Clearly, his obsession with Osinbajo and the Office of the Vice President is his last claim to relevance.
Nairaland GeneralReno’s Misguided Advise To VP Show How Poorly The Jonathan Government Was by Lifted2000(op): 1:52pm On Aug 23, 2019
Nigerians who are conversant with social media in February 2014 would easily remember the infamous alias ‘Wendell Simlin’ as it is synonymous with Reno Omokri. While in office as Special Adviser on New Media to President Jonathan, Omokri perpetrated the criminal act of identity theft by circulating emails to journalists and media houses, accusing the then suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano. The concocted story tried to link Sanusi with Boko Haram by painting him as a financier of terror using his office to channel funds to insurgents.

The lid was blown when recipients of the email began to ask questions which nobody could logically answer. A little nosing around exposed Reno Omokri as the perpetrator of this sinister act but he was using the email address of Wendell Simlin.

An investigation by SaharaReporters later revealed that the real Wendell Simlin lives in Hercules, California. Ms. Campbell, the mother of Wendell claimed that she is married to Omokri’s brother-in-law, adding that the presidential aide had exploited the relationship for criminal purposes. Mr. Omokri had used her son’s name, Wendell Simlin, to create a Facebook page, and proceeded to use the boy’s identity to create a fake document that sought to link Sanusi to terrorist acts.

Not only did Reno throw his nephew under the bus, he is still yet to be charged for the heinous crime. This is one major reason why that criminal can’t set foot on Nigerian soil.

His most recent shenanigans revolve around the name and identity of Leah Sharibu, one of the kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirls whom he wrote a book about. The book titled “Leah Sharibu: The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind” is on sale in hard cover on Amazon at $16.99. The supposed ‘movement’ has become a money-spinner of sorts for Reno Omokri as he goes about peddling #FreeLeahSharibu merchandise like some modern-day bootlegger, pulling on the humanitarian heart strings of unsuspecting politicians in the Western world. Most prominent of these is Boris Johnson, the current British Prime Minister, who was photographed with Reno holding up the t-shirt. This was touted by Reno as the ‘launching’ of the #FreeLeahSharibu clothing line in April 2019.

Boris Johnson has inadvertently become the face of this scam by this seemingly harmless act, as other donors see this as an endorsement of sorts. The general thinking across most donors and sympathizers in Europe is that if Johnson identifies with this, then it must be very legitimate.

On June 21, 2019 Nigerians on Twitter went on a sustained public outcry against the fraudulent activities of Reno milking the tragedy of the Sharibu’s for personal gain. The hashtag #RenoUndarted was trending for hours to the point where Reno had to respond. Omokri tweeted: “I made exactly ₦1 million from my book Leah Sharibu: The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind. The money spent only 5 minutes in my account. At the 5th minute, it was transferred to Leah’s mother. The transaction was verified by Kaduna state CAN Chairman, Rev J Hayab.”

Not a few prominent Nigerians have bought the T-shirt for prices ranging between N30,000 and N100,000, including but not limited to the former president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor; a former finance minister, Senator Nenadi Usman; Umar Sani, a former spokesman for ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo, and an anonymous person, among others. Reno cleverly sidesteps the question of where these proceeds are used for.

He claims to have given all the proceeds from the sales of this book to Leah’s mother, but till date there is no proof of this transaction whether it was done by bank transfer or physical cash. For someone as self-seeking as Reno, we know that such a gesture would have been publicized with all pomp and pageantry, if this payment truly did take place.

In the light of all this, it was quite laughable and a bit surprising when on Thursday 22 August 2019, we saw Reno resurface on social media, via Twitter and Instagram to be precise, seeking for some false sense of relevance from his misguided and misinformed cheering fans, by trying to throw shades at the person of Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president of Nigeria. For someone that once served under a Nigerian president, he showed his glaringly shallow understanding of protocol and channels of communication in the office of the presidency. This centers on his misinterpretation of the president’s closing remarks at the just concluded incoming Ministers Retreat for members of President Buhari’s new cabinet.

“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.” These evergreen words from Sir Winston Churchill, aptly describe Reno’s latest predicament and the dignified silence from the camp of the VP, as not all utterances deserve any official response. Reno is nowhere near the person of the VP by a thousand light years, so I wonder why he thinks he can even gain the justification to attempt this latest clout-chasing expedition on social media. His cheerleaders will only end up pushing him over the cliff of oblivion, as he continues to tread this path of infamy.

Reno’s Misguided Advise To Osinbajo Show How Poorly The Jonathan Government Was Run - ISD

A former Jonathan’s media aide who has recently launched an attack on Nigeria’s Vice President has been described as lacking wit and exposing the weakness of his former’s boss’ poorly run government by the Initiative to Save Democracy.

In a statement by its newly appointed publicity secretary, Peter Olaleye, the group faulted the call by Reno Omokri that the Vice President should stand up against the President because the President had asked that his Ministers pass correspondences and meeting proposals through the Chief of Staff, Mallam Abba Kyari.

The group stated that making such a call did not only show that Mr Omokri lacked an understanding of governance at the Presidential level, but it also reflected the way and manner in which the Jonathan government was run without any institutional practices and order.

“We have read Reno Omokri's constant attempt to politicise governance processes, especially his recent tirade at the Vice President. In our view, Omokri has opened himself, the government of Jonathan where he served and his party up to the perfect counter-uppercut.

“Because by lambasting the President's instruction to streamline administrative processes in adherence to global democratic executive standards, they are once again exposing and celebrating their own wayward governance systems of old in which presidential governance was a jungle-like wilderness in which everyone who could whisper to the President could adjust his actions or inactions which is largely responsible for the massive corruption and underdevelopment known of their administration which we are still dealing with.”

The Initiative to Save Democracy went further to state that the instruction given to Ministers to have all correspondences and schedules for meetings go through the Chief of Staff was to ensure there was order and guided flow of the President’s activities.

“Does one expect the President to receive his Ministers anytime and whenever they wanted to? Would that not be a recipe for chaos and insanity?” The group asked.

“There must follow a pattern in every institution, in which the head of the institution is accessed, correspondences sent and meetings scheduled. This was clearly not the case with the Jonathan administration. If we recall, it was during that administration that rumours flew round about how top government officials were going to the Central Bank with notes from the President to collect hard currencies for campaign activities. Reno Omokri’s recent comment only confirm this.”

ISD also stated that Reno’s attempt to pitch the Vice President against the President was not just foolishness but gave a clue as to one of the reasons why the PDP government had always failed in all its activities, noting that the PDP was renowned for running a disharmonious and uncoordinated government.

“The constant attempt to turn Vice President Yemi Osinbajo against President Buhari is a failed effort to confer on Vice President the same foolishness and rebellious, power hungry spirit with which Reno's boss, Atiku used to impose himself against a sitting President in Obasanjo which stalled government activities and also rendered PDP a political cog in the nation's wheel of progress. Osinbajo will not be goaded into foolish dysfunction as patented and trademarked by Reno's boss.” The statement read.

Why Jonathan's Social Media aide will never overcome his fraudulent past

We wake up each day, count it a blessing and go about our daily activities to earn a living.

Unfortunately for Reno Omokri he's faced with the same dilemma the only difference is that of late he's had no job and has taken to social media as consolation.Well he’s not entirely jobless, if you take into account the fact he sold shirts and books in Leah Sharibu’s name, scamming her parents and unsuspecting people.

But if he is not up to some old tricks, he is usually eking out a living out of his obsession for none other than the Vice President.

Similar to the holy grail or the elixir of life, a day can't go by without the self acclaimed pastor a crony to one of Nigeria's most corrupt governments attempting to take a dig at renowned Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Who requires that we shed light on the crooked character that once took on the personage of Wendell Simlin?

Lamido Sanusi - the Emir of Kano who was widely respected in the international community - had been suspended as the Governor of the Central bank a month after accusing the government of corruption.

A few days later, a number of journalists were surprised to receive an email from an unknown man, Wendell Simlin, which linked Sanusi with the militant Islamist group Boko Haram.

It was actually written by one of the president's aides, after his name was found in a Word document attached. Yes, Reno Omokri the one and only. Social media advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Not long afterwards a Califonia-based woman, Deborah Campbell, told Sahara Reporters in a series of emails and telephone conversation that her son, based in Hercules, California, is the real Wendel Simlin.

She explained that she is married to Mr. Omokri’s brother-in-law and that the president’s aide exploited the relationship to perpetrate forgery.

Back in Nigeria, Feyi Fawehinmi, one of the team who investigated the letters said, "We just did a simple right click on the document and looked at the 'properties'," and his name was there as the author.

This simpleton attempts at smearing the names of more accomplished persons obviously hasn't been improved upon in the five years since. For only yesterday Reno took his darts to Instagram and almost verbatim spewed the exact same rhetoric that another established wailer @aishayesufu had a couple of days prior chugged out questioning the roles and functions of Vice President Osinbajo in the present administration.

Dare I say Reno took to Instagram in respect to the bashing he got on Twitter the last time he exfoliated his crass and idiosyncrasies in the community. Anyone remembers #RenoUndarted?

Seems he's also not forgotten the bashing but assumes Nigerians have forgotten that we've realized he's been fraudulently collecting money in the name of Leah Sharibu from donors across the world in the course of his travels. We are still waiting for the audited accounts showing royalties being paid to Leah's parents as he alleged.

Rather than provide proof, Reno went underground and thinking that the clime was clear popped his head out to once again go about earning his Dubai strategy bread.

Nigerians are usually not quick to be ruffled, but the attendant response that greeted him and his post yesterday, I'm sure Reno now knows that his goose is cooked so expect one of Nigeria's most slimy characters to reinvent himself in another shoddy pseudonym in the nearest future because his obsession with Osinbajo is his last claim to relevance.

Nicholas Adesina writes from Ibadan, Oyo State
Nairaland GeneralNigeria Newspapers: No Osinbajo, No Sales by Lifted2000(op): 9:11am On Aug 23, 2019
By Sunday Akinloye

If you are an ardent reader of Nigerian newspapers, you will find that they love the name Osinbajo. They can put it on all their headlines if they have to, my guess, is that they get more clicks whenever the name Osinbajo is in the headline.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one Nigeria newspaper comes up with the headline, “Osinbajo watches as Real Madrid beat Barcelona in El Clasico”. That is how these newspapers are wired nowadays.

On Thursday, 22 August, my attention was called to a Vanguard newspaper headline on Twitter, “Osinbajo storms in as, Adamu, Shehuri, Kategu, Sylva, Akume take oaths”. The headline was ludicrous to say the least.

Not only did the Vice President not “storm in” as claimed by Vanguard, the VP had nothing to do with the swearing-in but Vanguard Newspaper were hell-bent on finding a way to input the name that gave them so much joy.

But it is not only Vanguard that is in this trade. Punch newspaper once wrote a story, published on the cover of their newspaper with the same name. The headline read, “Osinbajo's firm linked to company fingered in alleged N100bn Alpha Beta scam”.

For headline huggers, the VP was in trouble but for those who read the story, Punch was a purveyor of fake news. They maligned the Vice President just to sell some copies of their newspaper. For those who read the story, the VP had nothing to do with the deal. The claim that SimmonCoopers were he once worked was Company Secretary to Alpha Beta was also false.

Punch like Vanguard played on the intelligence of Nigerians by using the name Osinbajo to sell their papers. But they are not the only players in the media sector, most medium are involved in this offline and online.

A few days ago, TheNation newspaper published a story with the headline, “Join APC before your party dies, Osinbajo tells PDP”, supposedly what the VP said at the 80th birthday celebration of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

For those of us who are wiser, we know it is a ploy, so we don’t click on these links anymore but for the unsuspecting the clicks rang in their hundreds. The truth is the VP never said that, he made a joke about a Republican politician in the US who wanted to switch to the Democrat Party in his dying hour because he did not want the headlines to read, “A Republican Senator Died” and at the end he said politicians from other parties were welcome in the APC.

So why is the media trying to paint the VP in a bad light? Why do they want to soil a man that has built his reputation for decades? Why are they quick to write false stories about the man but reluctant to publish positive stories?

Professionalism goes beyond clicks, maligning the name of a good person should mean more than selling newspapers.

Ask the Nigerian people and they will tell you all sorts of positive things about the VP. From his Family Chats to Mediation to political and economic intervention, no one comes close. He’s the people’s politician. He is closer to the grassroot than local government chairmen, that’s just who he is.

A testament of this was when he visited Ebonyi state to commission projects but in his usual style stopped by the home of a beneficiary of N-Power. After crying and praying profusely for the VP, here’s what Emelda Onyeika had to say.
“I had two cups of rice in the house that very day, when alert dropped (N-Power alert), I had to thank God for everything because I know what have been passing through, if not that am I nursing mother, I uses to soak garri overnight to enable me drink it. So I can breastfeed my baby.”

Prof. Osinbajo is man that is loved and respected locally and international. As chairman of the National Economic Council he has earned the praises of governors who described him as one of the finest leaders in Nigeria’s history.

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai says the Vice President has a unique leadership style and humility, noting that the VP treated all (governors) equally regardless of party affiliations. That is who he is, a detribalized politician and leader.

Former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed a member of the opposition, said that the VP “led a strong team through various areas requiring attention in the economy. He made robust efforts in security giving direction, confidence and comfort.”

Here’s how Senator Kashim Shettima put it, the Vice President provided leadership and in the past four years, he exhibited humility, giving everyone a sense of belonging."

If I were Okoi Obono-Obla

By George Tari

If I were Okoi Obono-Obla there were many things I would have done very differently. But Obono-Obla is his own man, a man who wanted power and a man who absolute power corrupted absolutely.

Firstly, if I were Obono-Obla, I would have stuck to the mandate of my office instead of over-stepping my boundary and jumping into the jurisdiction of others.

Secondly, I would have hearkened to the warnings that came my way that my office was solely designed to investigate and not prosecute. I certainly would not go about blackmailing people and threatening them with the Presidency, when in the real sense, I’m not the President.

Thirdly, I wouldn’t embark on a needless media trial by co-opting Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and others to sensationlise a case that turns out that he is digging his own grave.

Fourthly, If I were Obono-Obla, I would not continue to play judge and jury especially when all the evidences are against me. I understand that he does not want to retire into his shell like a battered tortoise but he must face the music for the abuse of office.

Fifthly, If I were Obono-Obla, I would not take my bribery and extortion business to foreign missions in Nigeria, it was a disgrace and a stain on Nigeria and Nigerians.

Sixthly, If I were Obono-Obla I would not have beaten Mrs Nkeiru Okpalanozie Negwa, a pregnant woman who was accused by his Panel of receiving bribe as an electoral officer, in the February 2019 elections, in order to manipulate results. She was arrested on 7 June 2019 and severely beaten to the extent she began to bleed. She was rushed to DEDA Hospital Jabi on 8 June 2019 by the operatives of the Panel, where she received treatment.

Seventhly, If I were Obono-Obla, I definitely would have meddled in election matters because it had nothing to do with Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property.

If I were Obono-Obla, I would not have received donations on behalf of the Panel without declaring such donations to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or retiring same.

If I were Obono-Obla, I would not have involved myself massive corruption, nepotism and violation of financial regulations.

If I were Obono-Obla, I would not have hired Mr.Nnadi Ifebi, a friend, who is not a member of the Panel to sign correspondences as my Chief of Staff and send out invitations to victims usually to extort money from them in the process.

If I were Obono-Obla, I would have respected the ruling of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal that spelt out my mandate and stressed that, “the Panel only act on a written mandate received from the Presidency, and will seek authorization from the Presidency to undertake fresh mandates in accordance with extant laws of the Federation.”

If I were Obono-Obla, I would have halted my nefarious act when complaints against my work were flying left, right and center, and also, when I noticed that President Muhammadu Buhari has been inundated with complaints of all sorts.

But what did Obono-Obla sought to do? He sought to bite the finger that fed him. I will advise that he shuts up and face his case, the more he talks, the more he buries himself.

A word is enough for the wise. Take a cue from Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita.

In a lawsuit he filed to challenge the said probe for alleged certificate forgery and extortion on Tuesday August 20, the suspended SPIP chairman said the ICPC had no power to invite, arrest, detain, investigate, or prosecute him in connection with alleged falsification of academic certificates.

He also filed an ex parte application seeking an urgent hearing of the suit, while refusing to appear before the ICPC owing to his plan to challenge the summons by the commission. Punch reported that he alleged that part of the reasons he was suspended as the SPIP chairman, was that he was not taking instructions from Osinbajo.

Obono-Obla also said the anti-corruption agency would not conduct a fair probe of his case, due to the closeness of the commission’s Chairman, Prof Bolaji Owansanoye to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

He also linked his travails to the investigations he launched against influential persons and organisations, and also attached a detailed list of his achievements as the Chairman of the SPIP in terms of recovery of looted funds and assets. Obono-Obla also alleged that he received death threats and sacrificed his comfort in assisting President Muhammadu Buhari administration to fight corruption.

Nairaland GeneralNigerian Of Goodwill Beware Of Fani-kayode’s Craze With Vp Osinbajo by Lifted2000(op): 8:55am On Aug 04, 2019
It is no longer news that for Mr. Femi Fani Kayode to remain relevant in Nigeria he has resorted to insulting Vice President (VP) Prof. Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo and this has given him the illusion of the relevance he sought especially at a time even members of his own party see no more value in him.

Just like his father (Chief Victor Fani-Kayode) who betrayed Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the entire Yoruba race, Femi has been following his father’s footsteps by fighting against the real Yoruba interest and  person of Prof Osinbajo, who many see as one of the shining lights and a beacon of hope in this present government.

What cannot be doubted is that Yemi Osinbajo is everywhere going about his national duties, working tirelessly for the good of the nation even with his limited constitutional powers as the vice president.

The main grouse of people like FFK is that the VP has a trustworthy and cordial relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari. And for this reason he is saddled with the responsibilities that are deemed by many as beyond his constitutional powers.

These are major responsibilities which many a former vice president has never handled. How many times did Atiku had to bear the blame for the perceived errors of Obasanjo while they were in office? Or Jonathan bearing the burden of Yaradua’s mistakes? Who ever blamed Namadi Sambo for the many undoings of President Jonathan? Yet for social cum public space cheaters like FFK, it is the man who is clearly ahead in integrity, character and competence who must be attacked and brought down, even when the buck dont stop at his desk!

It has been argued that the renewed onslaught against Osinbajo is because of 2023. FFK and such political opportunists and sophists are focused on the VP because his character, integrity and popularity threatens their 2023 aspirations. Who knows tomorrow anyway?

On the kidnapping of clergymen, Femi Fani-Kayode should know that Pastor Adeboye and Prof Osinbajo were as bothered as the rest of Nigerians and as leaders with integrity; they immediately swung into action using their spiritual and political capacity to call for the rescue of the abducted pastors. If Mr. Fani-Kayode did not have an ulterior motive and had he waited even 48 hours he would have been celebrating the rescue of these pastors and other Nigerians that were abducted. Actually the pastors abduction was reported on Friday and by Saturday they were rescued by the Police. But haters like the perennially unstable FFK were already attacking Osinbajo no sooner the abduction were announced.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye demonstrated a good example as a leader in the body of Christ by asking Nigerians and Christians to pray for their release, even while the security agencies continue their search and rescue operations. Unlike the rabid rabble-rouser utterances we have read from Fani-Kayode on various media platforms.

READ: Cardinal Onaiyekan wants violent Fulani herdsmen cautioned

Femi Fani-Kayode is very crafty in whipping up religious and ethnic sentiments, as he encourages people to behave violently or aggressively, twisting even the meanings of passages in the Holy Scriptures, always for his personal political advantage. He has been out of power and the money that come with it. He is thus on a mission of survival, albeit in a most fatal approach of slandering Osinbajo who is seen by progressives as a true ‘Omoluabi’ and hardworking man.

How do we clearly ascertain those pastors were even kidnapped by Fulani Herdsmen in the first place, when investigation is still on? Just some days ago a four-man Yoruba gang was caught in possession of 10,000 live ammunition in Ibadan.

The same thing was just reported in Osun State where a roberry gang terrorizing Ikire axis in the State met their Waterloo when they were rounded up by local vigilante and were handed over to the Police. Surprisingly, they all dressed like Fulani but they were in fact indigenes of Ondo & Kogi States of Nigeria.

We as positive Nigerians should not continue to point fingers, when we should be working together to overcome our security challenges rather than fuel prejudice and ethnocentrism as a nation with different religions and languages.

Recently, Femi Fani-Kayode had to publicly apologize to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over his  widely publicized allegations, wherein he had blatantly accused the EFCC had raided the home of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. The commission would later threaten to sue him for defamation, describing him as a purveyor of fake news.

However, in a very rare acceptance of the humiliation brought upon himself by his regular unguarded utterances, Fani-Kayode would later apologize for his earlier comment but petulantly insisted that some people actually searched the CJN’s home. Many public analysts agreed the bravado was just a mere face-saving attempt after getting burnt. FFK had also insinuated that Onnoghen’s bank accounts had been frozen by agents of the Federal Government.

Many Nigerians are aware this same pontificating fellow is a well-known wife-beater in Abuja elite circles. This has made many discerning socialites to steer clear of his person even at high brow events as most VIPs do not want to be associated with such. He who lives in a glass house should truly not be throwing stones.

Unity in diversity should be Nigeria’s strength. There should unity in every corner of Nigeria which will be our strength.

Finally, anyone that has gone through Chief Remi Fani-Kayode’s rascal antecedents in the Nigerian Politics during the NPN, should know by now that Femi Fani-Kayode is a real son of his father. Hence the public should beware of his antics and lies, Femi FaniKayode once said that  President Jonathan’s government is a bad omen to the country, but thereafter he decamped to the PDP to join people from the same bad omen. We can clearly see him with his re-twisted propaganda taking after his father’s style of politics as the apple never falls far from the tree.

OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT
PRESS RELEASE

PROMOTING NATIONAL UNITY FOSTERS PROGRESS AND PROSPERITY, SAYS OSINBAJO

*VP restates position on community policing as panacea for Nigeria's security challenge

Promoting national unity and cohesion amongst Nigeria's diverse population rather than divisiveness will guarantee the kind of progress and prosperity that citizens have long desired, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this on Tuesday in Lagos while delivering the 70th Anniversary Lecture of the Lagos Country Club, entitled, “Promoting National Cohesion for Progress and Prosperity."

According to him, “Everything we have learned from the annals of history and from contemporary reports from all over the world, tells us that social diversity can either be a trigger for conflict or a fountain of prosperity and progress.

"Diversity in and of itself is not a problem; it is what we do with it that matters. Whether or not sociocultural variety results in strife or collective success entirely depends on how a society choose to manage it."

The Vice President said though the challenges of insecurity occasioned by hate speech and promotion of divisiveness is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, the same principle of diversity and national cohesion driving economic growth in other successful nations applies even in Nigeria.

Citing local examples of States that have harnessed their diversities to attain some levels of progress and prosperity, the Vice President said, “our most dynamic economic spaces have been historically multicultural cities like Lagos and Kano".

"Lagos as a port city obviously benefitted from its coastal location as a gateway to the African continent for traders and adventurers from beyond the seas as well as from the hinterland. Kano was a major terminal on the trans-Saharan trade drawing commercial traffic from as far North as the Maghreb and the Middle East and from Southern Nigeria.

"The conscious decision of Bola Tinubu then Governor of Lagos to appoint his commissioners from everywhere in Nigeria is partly responsible for the peerless progress of Lagos State.

"He appointed Mr Wale Edun from Ogun State as Finance Commissioner, Rauf Aregbesola from Osun as Commissioner for Works, Fola Arthur Worrey from Delta as Commissioner for Lands, Ben Akabueze from Anambra as Commissoner for Budget and Planning, Lai Mohammed from Kwara State as Chief of Staff and I, from Ogun State, as his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

"Lagos undertook fiscal, real property, judicial and environmental reforms that has made the State a model for the rest of the country. Nigeria is the same nation that produced Philip Emeagwali, an Igbo Christian; Africa’s first Nobel laureate in Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Yoruba, of no known religion; and Jelani Aliyu, Fulani, Muslim, a world class designer of motor vehicles. Nigeria is the nation it is because of the collective strength of its many talents, attributes and contours.

"From the foregoing, it is clear that when we create spaces for migratory talent to flourish without discrimination, there is an economic multiplier effect that results in an ever-increasing radius of growth," he said.

Continuing, Prof. Osinbajo said, “It is no accident that that the most affluent economies in the world are places that have learned to leverage diversity. In the 21st century, the true wealth of nations is human capital."

According to him, “this means that places that have learned to attract and retain the most diverse pool of skilled human resources are easily winning the race for success. Diversity means a multiplicity of perspectives and world views, but this also provides a broad range of cultural, philosophical and intellectual approaches for solving problems.

"In this rich soil, nourished by various ideas and schools of thought, productive synthesis is possible and innovation flourishes. Thus, the world’s richest nations are those places that have learned how to attract talent from various places and to harness diversity as a driver of growth."

The Vice President said Nigeria can transform its diversity into cohesion that would lead to greater prosperity, noting that the Buhari administration has adopted and initiated programmes that leveraged on the diversity of Nigeria's population.

He said, “The classification of Nigerians as “indigenes” and “non-indigenes” is our own form of divisionism and has long contradicted our declared aspirations towards unity in diversity. All that should matter in evaluating ourselves is where we live and fulfil our civic obligations. This is why our Social Investment Programmes are being administered on the basis of residency.

“The eligible beneficiaries were selected based on their states of residence and none was discriminated against on any basis. This approach is consistent with our broader philosophy of fostering national cohesion by broadening access to opportunity for all Nigerians without qualification.”

He urged Nigerians to “continue to defuse the potential perils of diversity by continuing to pursue measures that promote social inclusion and national cohesion.”

On ensuring the protection of rights, lives and property in a diverse society like Nigeria, Prof. Osinbajo said, “one of the most important ramparts of national cohesion are the guarantees of fundamental freedoms. The right to life, which comes with the duty of governments to ensure peace and security, freedom of movement, freedom of Worship, and the rule of law."

According to him, “everyone must be reasonably assured that their lives and livelihoods will be protected by government, that their disputes will be fairly and justly resolved regardless of their ethnicity or faith. Our challenges as a nation basically centre around these issues - religious conflicts, farmer-herder clashes in the North Central and many parts of the North West, Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, and militancy in the Niger Delta.

"When law enforcement institutions are weak there is a huge opportunity to run divisive narratives. By that I mean that where, for example, the security agencies do not speedily apprehend criminals, or the criminal justice system is slow, then there is room for people to say that authorities don’t arrest and prosecute Fulani herders when they kill because the law enforcement officers are often not resident in the communities where they are posted for policing duties; then it is easier to promote doubt about their commitment to ensuring the safety of the communities they police."

Still on the issue of law and order, the Vice President said, "where the quality and integrity of judges is in doubt, it is easier to find parochial reasons for unfavourable decisions.”

Citing the reforms carried out by the Lagos State Government between 1999 and 2007 as an example, the Vice President said "we must strengthen our judicial system, first by the appointment of judges of integrity and sound legal knowledge and then putting in place a welfare package that discourages misconduct."

He added, “In diverse societies we must do all that is necessary to strengthen the institutions of law enforcement, security and the rule of law. The challenge is dynamic and our approach must also be dynamic.

"Which is why I believe that State Police in a large, diverse federation is imperative. However, this requires constitutional amendment a product of consensus of our legislators. In the interim the Federal Government has approved the community policing option.

"The IGP recently announced the plan. An important component is that in the new approach to police recruitments. Police officers will be recruited in each local government and after training will be required to remain in their local governments.

"The plan also involves interfaces between traditional rulers, State neighbourhood watch or vigilante programmes and the police. The security architecture is now being reengineered for greater use of technology and more integration of the use of security platforms."

Nairaland GeneralThe Nigerian Youths Against Sowore’s Calculated Revolutionary Protest by Lifted2000(op): 2:25pm On Jul 29, 2019
The National Youth Coalition for Development has cautioned Nigerian youths against joining Omoyele Sowore’s revolutionary protest, stressing that, the motive behind the rally is negative.

In a press statement signed by the chairman of NYCD, Olawale Adebayo and co-signed by Secretary Chukwu Maurice Okoye on Monday, the group said Mr. Sowore was still bitter after losing out ridiculously in the last presidential election.

The group decried the strategy used by Mr. Sowore and some other Nigerians to deceive and subsequently con young Nigerians into thinking it’s a cause for them.

The NYCD said Nigerian youths can organize their protests without being used as a means to an end.

The chairman, Mr. Adebayo said Mr. Sowore was morally bankrupt and lacked the standing to call for revolution in Nigeria, given that, his online news platform, SaharaReporters is the king of fake news in Nigeria.

“How can Mr. Sowore call for a revolution when the revolution is supposed to start with him. Many of the problems we have in Nigeria is caused by the SaharaReporters which is owned by him.

He said Nigerians have not forgotten how he was disgraced on live television by the African Action Congress, AAC, the party which he founded and for which he contested the 2019 presidential election.

“He was disgraced on live television by the AAC for mismanaging and embezzling funds from donors for the execution of the last presidential election, how can this man be calling for revolution? Remember, he that lives in a glass house should not throw stones.

The NYCD called for massive boycott of the planned protests claiming that Mr. Sowore along with others like Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink have fraudulent pasts and are using the supposed protest to collect grants from foreign organizations.

“A leopard never loses its stripes, these are men with proven track record for fraud. Segalink used #EndSARS to con many Nigerians on Twitter, he even took money from politicians to propagate outright falsehood and lies.

“I urge all Nigerians to please stay at home and don’t allow themselves to be used. We must remember that Sowore is always looking to grab the headlines and afterwards he will run to the United States while young Nigerians will be left hanging.

Mr. Adebayo said after the elections which Mr. Sowore was accused of fraud, he returned to the US to allow all claims against him to cool off.

“Has Sowore responded to the fraud allegations against him? Has he denied any of the allegations against him? We need to be weary of these elements.

He then urged Nigerian youths to demand their rights from the government in a civil way. “Youths can mobilize themselves for a protest but they need to do it with intentions of making things better for all and not enriching a few, we should be at the vanguard of this for good,” he said.

The NYCD said it will be announcing a protest for all Nigerian youths with a view to dialoguing with the federal, state and local government.

Nairaland GeneralSimmonscooper Partners Threaten To Sue Punch Newspaper, Demands Apology by Lifted2000(op): 9:32pm On Jul 18, 2019
Leading law firm, SimmonsCooper Partners has threatened to sue Punch Newspaper over a report published on July 13th 2019, titled “Osinbajo’s firm linked to company fingered in alleged N100bn Alpha Beta scam”.

In a press statement issued on 18 July, the law firm described the report by Punch Newspaper which was published in print and online as defamatory, stressing that, the publication singled out, not only SimmonsCooper Partners, but also Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), a onetime senior partner and member of the firm, for public opprobrium.

SimmonsCooper Partners stated that it is not involved, in any shape or form, neither does it have a link with, the alleged tax evasion, money laundering, nor corruption claims alleged against any of the corporations identified in the publication.

The law firm demanded that amongst other things, Punch Newspaper remove from publication in their entirety the defamatory publication and all online threads to prevent further harm to the firm’s business.

“For the record, SimmonsCooper Partners refutes all the false allegations imputed against the firm, her members and persons currently or previously associated with the firm. The publication singled out, not only SimmonsCooper Partners, but also Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), a onetime senior partner and member of the firm, for public opprobrium,” the company said in its statement.

Adding that, “The Publication contains untrue and highly defamatory statements towards the firm, some of which contain malicious falsehood. In doing so, defamatory statements are being communicated to millions of people throughout the world, diminishing the firm’s reputation and that of various individuals who have worked at, and continue to work, at SimmonsCooper Partners.

“SimmonsCooper Partners states that it is not involved, in any shape or form, neither does it have a link with, the alleged tax evasion, money laundering, nor corruption claims alleged against any of the corporations identified in the publication. For the avoidance of doubt, SimmonsCooper Partners has never retained a physical or correspondent address at “B5 Falomo Shopping Complex, South West Ikoyi, Victoria Island”. This address is copiously portrayed in the published CAC Form 2.1, purportedly, as proof of the linkage between the firm and the subject matter of the allegations, whereas, a cursory inquiry by Punch could have shown that this address is neither the firm’s registered address nor its principal office. The firm categorically states that it has never been retained by Ocean Trust Limited to offer secretarial services as alleged by Punch Newspapers or at all. As is custom with filings as Company Secretary, there is no acceptance letter by the firm consenting to the purported appointment, or any other filing undertaken by the firm as Company Secretary at the registry of the Corporate Affairs Commission.

“The Publication seems designed to damage the reputation of SimmonsCooper Partners and its past and current members rather than have any fair comment basis. The publication was a false statement of fact, intentionally published in print and on the Internet, to millions of people within Nigeria and around the world. The malicious intent is demonstrated by the fact that a public search at the Corporate Affairs Commission shows that Ocean Trust Limited has a subsisting company secretary that had been appointed since 2011, which fact was curiously left out by the Punch Newspapers in the Publication. We believe that the Punch Newspaper’s admission to “rush to press” with the Publication, was motivated by malice and calculated to cause harm to the firm and its past and current members.

“Further, the imputation that offering professional services to a company, by itself, creates an association with alleged wrongdoing, is neither customary nor reasonable. We are certain that Punch Newspapers has external legal advisers who will not be taken to be privy to, or actors in, the defamation alleged herein, or indeed in other matters of liability that may arise in the course of running Punch’s business. Offering professional services, by itself, cannot be characterized as wrongdoing. The insinuation that the firm, its past and current members are somehow associated with alleged tax evasion, corruption, the suppression of investigation and obstruction of justice is not only unjustifiable and unreasonable, but also malicious in intent. Without more, the Publication has definitely held the firm up to scorn, ridicule, disgrace, and contempt in the minds of the readers of the Publication.

“SimmonsCooper Partners, today, is a product of the combination of her members’ intellectual capital, industry and integrity garnered for several years. We are proud that Professor Osinbajo continues to epitomise these values even in public service. In line with international best practices, upon his election as Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Osinbajo resigned his membership of the firm.

“The firm is aggrieved by the wanton, mischievous and most unprofessional manner in which the Punch Newspapers has published the defamatory statements in the Publication. SimmonsCooper Partners intends to seek redress to the fullest extent available in law and has requested the Punch Newspapers to do all of the following:

remove from publication in their entirety the defamatory publication and all online threads to prevent further harm to the firm’s business;
produce an apology and a declaration that the allegations referred to are false and defamatory and cause such apology and declaration to be published in each of the forums which have given or could give reason for our complaint (such apology to be approved by us prior to publication);
provide details of the number of online posts made, together with website addresses;
make proposals for the payment to us of damages for the harm caused to our reputation; and
undertake to actively monitor and delete any newly published defamatory content relating to the firm.

The Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has said it will no longer depend on the national grid but would commence the generation of its own 24-hour electricity by the end of October.

He told newsmen that by the end of October, the university will commission a stand-alone electricity generating system, a development, he said, will enable 24 hours generation of electricity on campus.

“Currently, we use between five and six megawatt of electricity. But, the rural electrification agency is providing a gas-powered electricity generating plant for us which will generate 8.03 megawatt of electricity beyond what we are currently consuming.

“We will be generating our own electricity on campus and will no longer be depending on the national grid. OAU will enjoy 24-hour power supply and that is exciting. It will enhance our research output among other developments.

“We also have our dam. It is currently being renovated. We will be generating our own water and our own electricity,” he said.
