Both religious studies(IRS & CRS) were removed from the curriculumn and Islamic arabic studies(arabic language) was introduced as an alternative to french, both the two languages are internationally/multi-laterally recognized especially in Africa. Some countries such as Dubai, Egypt etc have arabic as their official language, this therefore, will be an advantage to Nigerian students especially those who wish to further their education in such countries.. To shed more light, Islamic arabic studies only teaches the language(arabic) and not the teachings of islam.. As such i see this as an advantage not any move to islamise Nigeria or whatever...

Have you seen the curriculum? Arabic cannot be taught without a teaching about Muhammed and Allah. We are not interested in those two subjects. It is haram to us. You get it?

Arabic is one of the top 3 most spoken language in Africa, it only seems logical to add it but if you don't want it, ask them to add Swahili or even Hebrew. Arabic was made optional, an alternative to French. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything.

What is the value of Arabic studies? Why are you all Arabic scholars heading to Europe and America and not Arab countries?

If you will see all Nigerian children as equal, then you will see the use of Arabic language. In the North, Arabic is essential for trade. A lot of students from the North go to Arab countries for education. Arabic is important for them. Arabic is the 3rd most spoken official language in Africa.
The Nigerians working in Arab countries (both Christians and Muslims) will tell you the importance of Arabic. The way we build our kids is how we will reap the rewards.

1) CRS was not removed from the curriculum, it was only merged into Civic Education. IRS was also merged into civic education and the students still have a choice to select CRS or IRS. Of course the divisive losers like FFK and Reno wouldnt include this bit of info in their tweets cos it wouldn't 'serve' their divisive motives.

2) IRS was made compulsory, every student can still offer to choose the IRS or CRS module under the civic education course.

3) I understand a new course was added to the curriculum under the 'Foreign Language' category. In aďdition to french, there will now be Arabic Language in the curriculum. Since it is compulsory to offer at least one foreign language, students now have the option of picking French or Arabic, as against only French which seemed to exist before. Inclusion of this OPTION would be very exciting news to fellows up north who have a leaning towards Arab/middle-eastern world. But Of course, the moronic FFK who just this morning, called Lai Mohammed a fool and a liar just deliberately lied to you and the rest of the world that Islamic/Arabic studies is being made compulsory by the recent changes. Let me also make something clearer. This option between French and Arabic only comes for JSS1-JSS3 students. Primary school students dont face this option.
Now back to your hypothetical situation. A school that does not have a French teacher can be petitioned to have one. Having said that, your fear of Arabic language seems to be irrational. Do you fear Chinese language same way? If you go to Dubai for shopping, then a bit of Arabic will help you through. Same way French may help if you go to some neighbouring countries. We have to all realise that we are all in one country.
The North is even more in need of Arabic due to the neighbouring countries they have. Niger, Chad, and some Sahara trade routes communicate in Arabic language. Moreso, the corrupted Arabic language, Ajami (not sure of spelling) is as rampant in the North as broken English in the South.

If the north is in need of Arabic studies, why make it a national issue?
