Rivers Rerun: Violence, Killings Barbaric, In a swift response to bashing he got on the social media for his prompt reaction to the Brussels twin terror attacks on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari has said the killing of a youth corps member and others during the Rivers State rerun elections on Saturday are “barbaric and unacceptable”. Speaking for the first time about the violence which marred the polls, Buhari in his tweet post via his Twitter handle @NGRPresident on Wednesday said he has ordered security agencies to deal decisively with those involved irrespective of their party affiliation. The president also condoled with the families of the deseased. The tweets reads, “My condolences to the families of all who lost their lives during the elections in Rivers at the weekend.” “The violence in Rivers, and the tragic killings of Youth Corper Samuel Okonta and other victims, are barbaric & unacceptable.” “I have given the security services clear directives to deal decisively with all agents of violence, regardless of party affiliation.” http://leadership.ng/news/511789/rivers-rerun-violence-killings-barbaric-unacceptable-pmb

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor & Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA — There will be no vacancy in the Presidency in 2019, members of the National Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, declared on Tuesday night in a seeming lure to President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a second term. The national caucus, comprising serving and former governors, the National Assembly leadership, and selected members of the national executive of the party, at the meeting said the endorsement of President Buhari for a second term would help to stabilise the polity in the face of what members described as the 16-year rot inherited from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Meanwhile, the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has dismissed insinuations of a threat against his position, just as the caucus, Tuesday night, constituted a committee to resolve all pending issues in the party. One of the issues agreed on at the meeting, Vanguard learned yesterday, was that President Buhari should be given opportunity to seek a second term. Though the issue of a second term for the President was generally agreed, caucus members, however, also agreed that it would be too early in the day to kick start a second term campaign for the President. Vanguard learned that the issue was brought up as a way of resting restiveness among some party leaders, who have been divided over their various aspirations for 2019. The positioning by different party leaders on 2019 has been blamed for the problems that led to the crisis in the National Assembly and also the inability of the party to inaugurate its Board of Trustees, BoT, till date. “With Buhari contesting in 2019, those who have been squabbling will now have to queue up behind him and put the interest of the party ahead,” a source privy to the development revealed yesterday. Remarkably, leading senators in the party on Tuesday night met in Abuja where they also pledged to unify themselves in the face of the prospect of losing their influence to the more united PDP caucus. Odigie-Oyegun dismisses threat to his office Meanwhile, Odigie-Oyegun speaking to reporters at the end of the caucus meeting on Tuesday night dismissed reports of pressures on him to resign his office. He said: “I am not aware that my office is under threat. I led the party to the State House. It amazes me, occasionally it annoys me. That is one of the things you have to endure when you are in a position like mine." Noting the trend of the meeting, Odigie-Oyegun said that a committee had been constituted to resolve all the crises in the party. Speaking on the performance of his party’s government almost one year after taking over power, the national chairman pleaded for time on the part of Nigerians. He said the government would come on full stream when the 2016 budget is passed. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/03/presidency-no-vacancy-2019-apc/

Yeah , I made frontpage , the last time I did was also an election day. mod why una no allow me modify my post na. anyway thanks to the Election holiday and absence of voters card . My take on this electioneering exercise is that we need new breed of leader with new and a different mind set . Most of all the contestants of today's election from both side of the divide are the same , it's primarily about what they we get and not about welfare of tthose Vick voted for them . They promise so much and only do a little of those promises.. We pray for these new sets of leaders that will not see election as do or d die because they are not Goghhere for their gains but that of the peopl |

S.E Governors to meet in Owerri over pro-Biafra protests November 09, 2015 at 1:49 pm in News Facebook Twitter SMS By Chidi Nkwopara, OWERRI. Imo State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, Chief Rochas Okorocha, is currently arranging a crucial meeting with other governors in the South-East, over the growing agitation by protagonists of Biafra. According to a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, the leadership of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, and other stakeholders in the geo-political zone, were also being invited by the Governor, to talk and agree on how to check the activities of pro-Biafra groups in the area. “The meeting is expected to take place this weekend in Owerri, the Imo State capital. Already the Governor has begun to make all the necessary contacts to ensure that all those expected to be at the meeting, would be in attendance”, Onwuemeodo said. Vanguard recalls that Okorocha had earlier, while taking exception to the pro-Biafra violent protests in some of the South-East states and few other neighbouring states, disassociated the governors and leaders in the South-East states from the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, protest, describing the whole exercise as “embarrassing, disturbing, counter-productive and to a large extent, distracting”. According to Governor Okorocha, the pro-Biafra protests could not be in the interest of the south-east people but were only sending wrong signals to the rest of Nigerians. “It has become increasingly necessary for the governors in the zone, Ohaneze leaders and other stakeholders in the area to meet, to call a spade, a spade”, Okorocha said. The Governor also said that “at the end of the Owerri meeting, the governors and other leaders will take a common position and will also invite the leaders of the pro-Biafra groups for a meeting, to let them know the socio-economic and political implications of their activities, including their demand for sovereignty in a united Nigeria”. It was the considered opinion of Chief Okorocha that the governors and leaders in the zone could no longer sit and watch the whole situation degenerating, even as he also noted that the Igbos as a people cannot afford to have its own kind of Boko Haram. He wondered why the pro-Biafra apologists kept quiet all these years only to resume their protests and activities this time and few months after the new administration in the country came on board. Meanwhile, the Governor had also met with the security chiefs in the state on how to ensure that the pro-Biafra protests across the South-East states at the moment won’t be experienced in Imo state. Similarly, the Governor has also been meeting with certain categories of the citizenry in the state that may have the temptation of joining the pro-Biafra protest to let them know the futility of such action. |

Boko Haram recaptures Marte in Borno MAY 16, 2015 : KAYODE IDOWU 5 Comments The Boko Haram terrorist group on Friday recaptured Marte, a border town in the northern part of Borno State. Security sources said members of the terrorist group, who fled Sambisa forest, had now regrouped in Marte. Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, also confirmed the recapture of the town by Boko Haram terrorists during a press conference in Maiduguri. “It is sad as we have been made to understand that Marte is today (Friday) completely fallen under the control of the insurgents, which to us is a very huge setback,” he said. Mustapha raised the alarm that 600 women and girls had been dispatched by the terrorists as suicide bombers with the aim of causing multiple explosions in Maiduguri. The deputy governor urged residents to be patient with the security agencies in spite of the attendant hardships caused by the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on Maiduguri. He said, “It is unfortunate that we are experiencing yet another attack in Maiduguri at this time that we are thinking that the insurgency should have subsided following the taking over of Sambisa forest by the military. “Our thinking was that every other place should have been blocked so that the insurgency would be curtailed to a restricted area, but that has not been the case because the insurgents have been fleeing to other communities. “Initially, we were opposed to the suggestion by the military, but when we received a security report that about 600 women have been kitted as suicide bombers and are to be sneaked into Maiduguri during the attack, couple with the gory pictures of some of the women who detonated themselves during the attacks, we had no option than to okay the curfew. “But the curfew has been relaxed from noon to about 5pm to ease the hardship and afterwards it may be reviewed. Our government is going to do everything possible by supporting the military to ensure that Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State are not attacked or taken over by the insurgents.” The capture of Marte happened as soldiers sustained the 24-hour curfew imposed on Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on Thursday after Boko Haram terrorists attempted an invasion of the city on Wednesday night. Some unindentified soldiers on Saturday impounded the official car of the Delta Commissioner of Information, Mr Chike Ogeah, at a polling station where he went to be accredited to vote. Ogeah told newsmen at St. John Bosco’s Catholic Church, Ward 6, Oshimili South Local Government Area, his polling station, that some armed soldiers in three vehicles accosted him. The commissioner said that he had been accredited and was leaving the polling station when the armed soldiers swooped on him. “One of the soldiers ordered me to stop at the centre of the road and surrender my car key to him. He insisted that if I did not obey him he would shoot me. “I even identified myself and he wouldn’t listen and I decided to give him the key to stop further harassment,” he said. Other residents complained of such harassment by soldiers on their way to and from polling stations. Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, the Executive Director of International Centre for Women Empowerment and Child Development, an NGO, corroborated Ogeah’s complaint. Anyafulu said that she was harassed along Summit Road Asaba on her way to the polling station, at Umuadaike Ward 8, Oshimili South . She noted that the soldiers’ action discouraged some voters from casting their votes. When contacted, the Police Public Relations (PPRO) in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident. Kalu told pressmen that the commissioner had informed her about the incident and added that the situation in the polling station had been put under control and his car released to him. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/election-soldiers-impound-delta-information-commissioners-car/ |
