Cotonou -A hospital in Benin Republic is treating a Nigerian man
suspected of having contracted Ebola and authorities have sent a
sample of his blood to Senegal for testing, Health Minister Dorothée
Gazard said on state television on Thursday.

The case is unconfirmed but Gazard's announcement triggered
widespread fears in the capital Cotonou. Many people said they
would stock up on food and stop eating at popular roadside food
stalls to avoid possible infection, witnesses said.

Reports from Portugal revealed that Arsenal’s initial bid on William Carvalho was rejected because Arsenal wanted to pay in instalments. According to the report by Portuguese newspaper Record, the Sporting Lisbon chiefs have held an emergency meeting to discuss the clubs precarious financial position and it was decided they have no option but to sell Carvalho to the highest bidder. Reports say, the club’s desperation to sell as a result of their financial situation has forced them to sell at ‘substantially’ below his £37m buy-out fee. The club is keen on getting the fees upfront and not in instalments and that is the reason why the initial Arsenal bid was rejected. But now, a £24m bid from Arsenal is being prepared but has not been offered. It is believed that Arsenal will make the bid and hope to complete negotiations before the weekend, but no one can say, if the £24m Arsenal is reportedly bidding would represent the ‘‘substantially below’’ in the report.

The player is said to be part-owned by an investment company that has 50% stake in the transfer fee, if the deal happens, meaning if an agreement is reached with a club for £24m, only £12m would go to the club. Even though the Portuguese paper has put Arsenal the most likely destination of the player and a lot of Arsenal fans believe now in the financial status of the club, there may still a problem, if Arsenal do not meet up to what the club considers alright. An objective view of the report makes it a 50%-50% chance of the midfielder playing at Arsenal next season.

This appears an opportunity for Arsene Wenger to step up and make this deal happen, as the Londoners are favourites to grab this one. The Angolan-born Portuguese, will bring the physicality and tackle-ability seen in the Patrick Vieira era as the Gunners holding midfielder. With links to Sami Khedira and Morgan Schneiderlin cooling off, Arsenal may just have this all wrapped up in no distant time. Although, Manchester United are also said to be interested in the lad, nothing concrete is yet to be seen from the Louis Van Gaal led team.

It’s looking like a dawn of a new era for Arsenal going by the desire the team showed last term and the summer signings brought in by the manager this transfer window. Almost all positions in the team have credible and talented players and even some experienced assistants. However, the defensive midfield position, though stable, with experienced players like Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini, still needs that kind of player described above, on the long term. This is not to say Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are not up to the task, for the upcoming season. They are respected veterans who would stabilize any team. While Flamini is known for the battles and the Gattuso-like wicked tackles, Arteta dominates the position with his fair tackles, good interceptions and his good passing ability.

Carvalho has been linked to Arsenal long enough this term and if this deal does not work, then Arsene Wenger really must have an answer because Sporting Lisbon has made everything easy for Arsenal.
