Politics › Tinubu: Why Nigerians Should Not Elect Atiku President by Limitednow(op): 4:24pm On Jan 08, 2019 |
Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has stated why Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not be elected president.
Mr Abubakar popularly known as Atiku, is the major challenger of President Muhammadu Buhari, who seeks a second term in office.
For Tinubu, the PDP flag-bearer should not be elected president because he abused earlier opportunity given to him by Nigerians.
He also said the former vice president could not be trusted unlike the president.
The former Lagos State governor stated this in a statement wherein he accepted the assignment given to him by Buhari to take full charge of his re-election campaign.
“The character of the two candidates cannot be more distinct. President Buhari is a straight and honest man. Leave a naira on the table with Buhari in the room. You will find the naira on the table when you return,” Tinubu said.
“When Buhari says “yes” or “no,” you know where he stands. He means what he says, no more, no less. With Atiku things are more nuanced. When Atiku speaks, he may mean “yes,” “no,” “maybe,” I don’t know,” “come back tomorrow,” “all the above,” or “none of the above.”
“His compass has four needles pointing in different directions as the same time. He knows of no direction to take. President Buhari’s word is his bond. When Atiku speaks, it is to give you the slip.
“We cannot afford a President whose ways and mind is a maze of contradicting urges and colliding desires. This shows he has no vision for the nation and no guiding principles except the naked pursuit of power for the naked use of that power.
“Atiku had his chance to shine as VP when he controlled the privatization program of the Obasanjo government. He abused this assignment. He helped squander billions of dollars on power generation that did nothing but extend our national the darkness.
“That government had so much money at its disposal and that is exactly what it did. It disposed of the money yet failed to treat the poor or build for the future. Atiku laid waste to the national treasury for eight long years. That is enough for one lifetime.
“We should not reward him by giving him another eight years because the more he feeds, the stronger his hunger grows,” the top official of the APC said.
Tinubu also accepted the assignment to head the president’s campaign team.
“Consequently, the members of the APC presidential campaign council accept our respective assignments as both high honor and heavy responsibility. We will work diligently to reelect President Buhari.
“We do this not for personal accolades. We do this not merely to reelect a party member. We do this because it is the best thing for Nigeria,” he said. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/tinubu-why-nigerians-should-not-elect-atiku-president/

Politics › Atiku: I And Saraki Made Mistake Voting APC In 2015 by Limitednow(op): 9:28am On Jan 08, 2019 |
Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said he made a mistake by voting for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2015 general election.
Mr Abubakar stated this on Monday at the presidential rally of the PDP in Kogi State.
The former vice president popularly known as Atiku said he did not made the mistake alone as Bukola Saraki, Senate President also committed same blunder.
Messrs Atiku and Saraki were former members of the ruling party. They had defected to the APC prior to the 2015 general election.
While in APC, Atiku contested for the 2015 presidential ticket but lost to Muhammadu Buhari, who is now seeking a second term in office. The former vice president is the major challenger of the president in the February 16 presidential election.
“I have always advocated for the restructuring of this country,” Atiku said.
“If there is one state that is going to be a beacon of progress, a beacon of hope after restructuring, it’s Kogi State. Because Kogi State has what it takes to be one of the most promising states in this country, therefore don’t be deceived by APC.
“You have seen them, you have voted for them, what have they done in this four years? What have they done here in Kogi State?
“They can’t even pay salaries, they can’t pay pensions, schools are not working, this is a failed government and we have the opportunity to correct the mistakes we have made.
“He (Saraki) made the mistake, I made the mistake, today we have retraced our steps and we are determined to correct the mistakes that has been made,” he said.
The former vice president also criticised the detention of Senator Dino Melaye who is said to have allegedly committed homicide in July.
“Kogi state has one of the most prominent young politician in the country. Today he is under detention and unlawful detention for that matter,” the PDP flag-bearer said while calling on the APC-led government to free the lawmaker.
Atiku called on the people to ensure they elect candidates of the PDP in the coming elections.
On his part, Mr Saraki, while addressing the mammoth crowd that graced the rally, celebrated Mr Melaye on his 45th birthday while the lawmaker was been detained by the police. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/atiku-saraki-made-mistake-voting-apc-2015/

Politics › Amaechi Tape: Why Reno Omokri Is Angry With Amaechi – Buhari Group by Limitednow(op): 11:52am On Jan 07, 2019 |
The Buhari For Better Tomorrow Movement has lashed out at Reno Omokri, former presidential aide, for publishing audio clips alleging Rotimi Amaechi, Transport Minister, criticised the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Mr Amaechi, over the weekend, in two separate audios, was reported to have spoken ill of the government of which he serves. Although the minister has denied making critic comments ascribed to him, POLITICS TIMES could not as at press time verify the authenticity of the clips. Reacting to the development, the Buhari For Better Tomorrow Movement in a statement sent to Media Houses by its National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abubakar, said the ex-presidential aide moved against the minister because the former Rivers State governor was capable of delivering votes of the South South region to President Muhammadu Buhari who seeks a second term in office. Mr Omokri, also known as a cleric was described by the group as a fake pastor. How the group arrived at that conclusion is unknown to POLITICS TIMES. The group had earlier said those who made public the clips did so to embarrass the minister. “Against the move by Mr. Reno Omokiri, a renowned fake Pastor to release another manufactured audio clip against the Minister of transportation and the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, we are using this medium to advise Nigerians to ignore the fake audio and video clips aimed at diminishing the chances of our Presidential Candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari by the power-drunk fake-Pastor and his allies. “We know who Mr. Reno Omokiri is; and his only stock in trade are lies and campaign of calumny against respected individuals and perceived political opponents of his pay masters. “We remember with nostalgia how the fake-Pastor as Special Assistant to former President Good Luck Jonathan wrote and circulated fake news article linking a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect in 2014. “We also know why Mr. Omokiri and his fellow Satanits are angry with Amaechi and President Buhari. It’s simply because, Mr. Amaechi has the capacity to deliver the votes of the entire South-south region to President Buhari, a zone wrongfully believed to be the stronghold of the PDP. “Therefore, we urge our teeming supporters never to fall prey to their cheap lies against our party leaders, members and President Buhari himself,” the group said. Be Careful Of How You Embark On Door-To-Door Campaign, Shehu Sani Tells APC SupportersShehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has advised Nigerians to be careful on how they embark on the door-to-door campaign of the All Progressive Congress, (APC).
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday urged youths and women belonging to the APC to commence a door-to-door campaign telling Nigerians why the party should be voted for in the general election billed to hold early this year.
The president made the call while inaugurating the APC Women and Youths Presidential Campaign Team (PCT) at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“I charge you to reach out to all Nigerians door-to-door and remind them why we need another four years,” Buhari said.
Reacting to the call, the Kaduna lawmaker advised those being recruited for the campaign to be mindful of the way they carry out the task.
Sani said those who will carry out the campaign may be assaulted while trying to do their assignment.
“If the President or Governors or Senators or reps or any candidate recruit you for “a House to House campaign” and you reached to a house where the residents told you to “enter make we hear you well well”,my Brother, pick race,” Sani tweeted on Friday.
“My advice to those who are recruited by politicians to embark on “Door to Door” campaign;Know the landlords or the tenants before knocking on their door, because people are angry; If you are not cautious and you knock some doors, when it opens, “no be pesin you go see na stars,” the Senator advised.
Elected on the platform of the APC to the Senate, the lawmaker has dumped the ruling party for the opposition Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Politics › Shehu Sani: Why I Should Be Re-elected Kaduna Central Senator by Limitednow(op): 9:55pm On Jan 03, 2019 |
Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate has given reasons why he should be re-elected.
Mr Sani, a fierce critic of his state governor, Nasir El-rufai, is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The Senator who went to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) defected to the PRP when he could not clinch the ticket of the ruling party, largely because of his political battle with Mr El-rufai.
The governor had thwarted the lawmaker’s bid to secured the ticket of the APC after he was assured by the national leadership of the party that he was their flag-bearer.
Addressing members of the Igbo Youth Peace and Unity Initiative in Kaduna on Wednesday evening, the Senator said he deserved to be re-elected because he is not a stooge to anyone and has the interest of the masses at heart.
“They want the seat of Shehu Sani in order to continue to enslave you. We are moving out of Egypt. Those people in power in Kaduna state represent the wall of Jerico that has to be pulled down,” the lawmaker said.
“I am here seeking for your votes, support and prayers that we must not allow any stooge to take over the Kaduna central senatorial seat. If the governor of this state wants to compensate his boy, he should find a job for him, but not the Kaduna central senatorial seat.
“Kaduna central seat is not for sale, is not for a running dog, not for a puppy, is not for a puppet and is not for a hand bag boy. When you re-elect us into office, you are re-electing politics of principle, courage, bravery and value. You should not elect people who will go and do the bidding of their godfathers.
“Elect people who will do the bidding of the poor, the down trodden, the traders, the artisan, the mechanic, civil servants and the beggars in the street. It is unfortunate that our country, a very blessed one, but the leaders have identified with negative activities and evil actions,” Sani said.
He criticized the APC-led federal government urging the people to vote out the ruling party for failing to tackle the challenges bedeviling the nation.
“From the killings in Zamfara to Birnin Gwari, the killings in the north-east part of Nigeria and north central, of herdsmen,” the Senator said.
“We have a duty to send a clear message to the leadership of the country that we can show you the way out just as the previous government was shown the way out of power.
“We must not deceive ourselves, we must tell ourselves the truth, the nation is sick, the state is sick. Nigerians expected a better deal than what we are having today. People who begged you three and half years ago to vote them have turned themselves to demi gods.
“We have seen how poverty has ravaged the lives of Nigerians in the last three and half years, we have seen the killings, the level of bloodshed and violence, we have seen the division, the hopelessness, we have seen how a governor of a state have sacked thousands of people out of their work,” he added. Politics › Obasanjo: My Role In Nigerian Politics Is To Raise Alarm by Limitednow(op): 6:59pm On Jan 03, 2019 |
Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has stated his role in the nation’s politics.
The former president quitted partisan politics in the country when he dumped the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) tearing his membership card in the process.
Prior to the 2015 general election, he pitched his tent with Muhammadu Buhari, then opposition candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The APC flag-bearer after the endorsement of the former president won the election but the duo has fell out politically due to the second term ambition of the president.
Last year, the former president advised Mr Buhari to shelve his re-election bid due to alleged incompetence. The president has since dumped the advise in a trash can and went on to actualize his ambition.
Despite his acclaimed stance, Obasanjo has publicly endorsed Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP to battle it out with the president.
Addressing Yabaji Sani, presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and his team when they paid him a visit on Thursday at Abeokuta, Mr Obasanjo said his role in the country’s politics is to raise alarm when events turn around in the way they ought not be.
“It is undemocratic, the attitude of some politicians who heat up the polity by undermining and denigrating other Nigerians through thuggery and harassment of innocent citizens,” Obasanjo was quoted in a statement by Pam Ibrahim, Director of Media and Publicity of Sani’s Campaign team, as saying.
“My role in Nigerian politics would be that of a watchman who is expected to be vigilant and raise an alarm whenever it is necessary,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Mr Sani while urging Nigerians to vote for him and his party said he is in the race because of bad leadership of previous administration particularly in the areas of security.
“We are in a country where the security of citizens is no longer guaranteed giving the crime rate we experience on a daily basis, especially insurgency, armed robbery and kidnappings across the country”, he said. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/obasanjo-role-nigerian-politics-raise-alarm/ |

Politics › Atiku: How Buhari’s Cronies Acquired Shares In Keystone Bank, 9mobile by Limitednow(op): 11:17am On Jan 03, 2019 |
Atiku: I Have Evidence Of How Buhari’s Cronies Acquired Shares In Keystone Bank, 9mobileAtiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says he is in possession of evidence showing how cronies of President Muhammadu Buhari acquired shares in Keystone Bank and 9mobile.
Mr Abubakar had earlier alleged that family members of President Muhammadu Buhari who atimes could not afford transport fare were stakeholders in the two firm.
The former vice president popularly known as Atiku while making the allegation called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into his claims but the anti-graft agency, as at press time, has not made its position on the matter known.
Although the two firms have denied cronies of the president bought it shares, Atiku has continued to insist that a probe on the matter should be carried out.
The Presidency has asked the former vice president to tender evidence before it could act on the issue but Atiku in a statement signed by Phrank Shaibu, his special assistant on public communications on Thursday, said such demands showed those he accused were guilty of the offence.
“While we hold on to the piece of evidence that we have, it is no longer in doubt that underhand dealings took place in the acquisition of Keystone Bank and 9Mobile,” he said.
“The roles played by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), both agencies of government have been widely reported and not controverted. The days of playing the ostrich by the Presidency are over. No more hiding for them”, he added.
The PDP flag-bearer after accusing the EFCC of failing to act has now called on the national assembly to carry out a probe on his allegation.
“It is not surprising that the EFCC has suddenly become prostrate and bluntly refused to investigate the acquisition of Keystone Bank and 9Mobile which have been widely adjudged to be fraudulent, if not out rightly criminal.
“The EFCC, like many other agencies under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government has once again displayed partisanship. The only hope at this stage is the National Assembly which we urge should take up the gauntlet.
“The National Assembly as representatives of the people is the last hope. We cannot allow the looting and criminal acquisition of our collective patrimony. They plan to steal more if President Buhari wins a second term.
“The National Assembly and Nigerians must not allow them take away legacies we ought to bequeath to generations unborn. We must rally against nepotistic rule and entrenchment of parochial cleavages as we have witnessed under the APC,” Atiku said. Politics › You Didn’t Stop Me From Smuggling Looted Funds Into Nigeria, Buhari Hits Atiku by Limitednow(op): 8:39pm On Jan 02, 2019 |
Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s President, has denied the allegation that he smuggled in looted funds into the country.
The president who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) stated this through his support group, Buhari Media Organisation.
BMO was reacting to claims by Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that he prevented the president from smuggling in looted funds into the country.
The claim by Mr Abubakar, popularly known as Atiku, came as a reaction to allegation by Buhari that the PDP flag-bearer was plotting to smuggle in illicit funds from outside the shores of Nigeria.
“It is a blatant lie that Atiku Abubakar, as head of Customs at the Lagos airport in 1984 stopped the ADC of the then Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, from smuggling in 53 suitcases of looted money,” BMO said in a statement signed by Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Madueke, it’s respective Chairman and Secretary.
“This is a matter that was settled back then. The suitcases were the personal belonging of the then Nigerian Ambassador to Libya who was returning to the country after his tour of duty with his three wives and sixteen children.
“The late Ambassador was coming into the country at the same time as the Emir of Gwandu whose son was General Buhari’s ADC and his suitcases were falsely presented to the public as those of the Emir.
“So from all indications, the suitcases which were cleared through Customs by soldiers had nothing to do with Buhari and there was nothing to suggest that illicit funds were being brought into the country.
“Nigerians must be wary in the coming weeks. The party which has no agenda to sell would continue promoting lies on the media. It would, like one of its recent converts, begin to trivialize the impact of corruption and even attempt to normalize it; Nigerians must fight and reject this,” the group said.

Politics › Atiku: You’re Confused, Irrelevant, Presidency Blast Obasanjo by Limitednow(op): 10:59pm On Dec 12, 2018 |
Olusegun Obasanjo, former president, has been described as a confused fellow over his support for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The description is coming from the Presidency while reacting to the denial of the former president that he was neutral as the nation goes to elect its leaders in next year’s general election.
It also comes days after the federal government reacted to to the same subject matter. Obasanjo was told that his endorsement of the former vice president popularly known as Atiku was not winning election.
The former Nigerian leader had said he choosed not to be neutral because the country was being “destroyed with incompetence, corruption, lack of focus, insecurity, nepotism, brazen impunity.”
His submission did not go down well with the presidency who then described him as one who has outlived relevance in the society.
“Former president Obasanjo denounces one person today and supports that same person the next day,” Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity told State House Correspondents on Wednesday.
“When it pleases him, he brings God into the matter and uses that as his excuse for whatever position he has chosen.
“The presidential spokesman added that he was not surprised that newspapers reported Obasanjo expressing neutrality at a weekend forum, only for the former president to express a completely different stance after a day or two.
“We have learnt not to take his utterances seriously anymore.
“We know that the slightest wind can make him change his mind again. After all, this is the same man who publicly tore his party registration card barely four years ago, and he now claims to be backing the same party,” Shehu said.
Obasanjo had earlier this year said God will not forgive him should he pardon Atiku who served as vice president when he held sway as President.
The duo fell out politically at the wind down of their tenure.
The former vice president, POLITICS TIMES recalls, was said to have thwarted his principal’s bid to enforce an amendment to the constitution aimed at extending the two term tenure enshrined in the constitution.
A plea bargain which involved top chieftains of the PDP and religious leaders made Obasanjo backtracked from his earlier stance on Atiku. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/atiku-youre-confused-presidency-blast-obasanjo/ |

Buhari cited the timeframe of the amended electoral bill as reason for not assenting to the bill but didn't consider timeframe when he increased the salaries of police officers with whom he will use to rig the election.
Trader Moni has been in the 2016 budget, yet you waited for months to the election before you begin distributing the funds.
Well, I agree with Dogara on this. |
Politics › Dogara: Trader Moni Is Direct Vote Buying by Limitednow(op): 1:15pm On Dec 10, 2018 |
Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has described the TraderMoni scheme of the federal government as direct vote buying.
Mr Dogara made the remarks while delivering his address at the one day ‘Public Hearing on Vote Buying and Improving Electoral Processes in Nigeria’, on Monday, in Abuja.
TraderMoni is an empowerment scheme created specifically for petty traders and artisans across the country.
The event organised by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had the leader of the National Assembly, Bukola Saraki, in attendance among other federal lawmakers.
POLITICS TIMES had earlier reported that Saraki described the scheme as sophisticated vote buying.
“I am delighted to address you on this public hearing, this is one of the important issue of the moment that needs to be addressed before the 2019 general elections,” Dogara said.
“For election to be qualified under a Democratic Government for it must be free, fair and credible.
“The recent phenomenal and direct buying of vote is very disheartening. As citizens, we must not surrender to this criminality.
“Vote Buying and other criminal electoral process has left our citizen in a disaster because they are ruled by fear rather than challenging them.
“I call on all Nigerians to rise and condemn all practices of Vote Buying as it is the worst form of corruption and should be treated as such,” Dogara said.
Delivering his remarks, Saraki who said the Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, who doubles as the head of Electoral Commissions in West Africa, cannot afford to conduct an election that will not be seen as credible, peaceful, free and fair.
“It is instructive that in 2015, we in Nigeria set an enviable standard that encouraged more countries in Africa to democratise. In 2019, we cannot lower the standard. Quite clearly, there should be positive progression,” Saraki said.
“We must up the ante, therefore, because whatever we do will have impact on the continent and serve as a representation of Africa on the global stage.
“Permit me to observe, at this point, that our primary concern should be to entrench global best practices in our electoral process, ensuring that these are backed by legislations to make them sustainable and permanent.
“That is why I enjoin the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly to come together and review all issues concerning the 2019 elections dispassionately and with patriotism.
”For example, the use of Incident Form to bypass the lawful process of accreditation and voting is not good for our country. We must do away with it.
“This is one of those issues concerning which, whether or not there is a law, all of us as stakeholders should come to agreement and address the anomaly. At the very least, it is one minimum condition that we must meet as we move towards 2019.
“All stakeholders should demonstrate the fact that a credible and transparent election is far better and more important than who wins that election.
“We cannot afford to send the wrong signals with our actions or inactions as we prepare for the next elections. The world should be able to take positive cues from us that we are ready to improve on our process and make our electoral process that much more transparent and credible. This is because perception matters, as you all know. Perception is, in fact, reality.
“This is necessary because the responsibility to conduct a credible poll is solely that of the Commission. This is elemental to retaining the confidence of the electorate.
“At this point, it does seem to me that the onus is on INEC to demonstrate its independence. It should be pro-active and take bold decisions.”
Saraki added that there is need to curb the “unlawful interference by security agents in the voting process.”
“It is all too clear that security agents are beginning to emerge as major clogs in the election process. Reports of collusion with political actors to disenfranchise voters is very worrying indeed.
“We cannot under any circumstances militarise elections, because that defeats the purpose of free, fair and credible polls. In an election, access to the polling unit for the purpose of casting one’s vote is the bare minimum.
“Once a voter is denied the opportunity to vote through bullying, intimidation and other forms of harassment, then vote rigging and electoral malpractice have free reign.
“The Commission should further seek the co-operation of the respective security agencies to ensure strict compliance.
“It is that way that Nigerians can trust the process, and it will be clear to all that the right steps have been taken with regard to the involvement of security agents.” Source: https://politicstimesng.com/dogara-trader-moni-is-direct-vote-buying/ |

Femi Falana, Human rights activist, says he dislikes the ways with which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) fights corruption.
Mr Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) stated this on Sunday at the presentation of ‘Compendium of High-Profile Corruption and Financial Crimes Cases in Nigeria,’ in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State.
At the presentation, the activist said he detest the way the anti-graft agency swoop on properties allegedly acquired by persons of questionable character.
“I do not subscribe to the locking up of assets or properties while a case is still pending in court. I do not think the EFCC or other anti-corruption agencies should be doing that,” he said.
Falana suggested that properties acquired for public purposes should be allowed to function even if the owners have some clarifications to make.
“If somebody has stolen money to build a hospital, just like the one on Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, somebody was alleged to have stolen to build the hospital worth about N2.5billion, which is sealed now.
“For me, you are not doing the public any good by just locking up the place and by putting your inscription: ‘Under Investigation’.
“Why don’t you allow it to function so that the place can benefit the people, because it is already acquired for public purpose.
“And this should go for all buildings too. People are looking for accommodation and you just lock up blocks of flat over cases still pending in court.
“And these cases may be in court for years. And by the time the cases are concluded, the premises you have sealed no longer have their value.
“The EFCC was set up to revive businesses not to liquidate them. You liquidate businesses by just getting some court orders. That to me, is not the way to fight corruption,” he said.
On seized vehicles, the lawyer suggested that they could be sold by anti-graft agencies and the proceeds kept pending the determination of their owners rather than wasting away. Source: https://politicstimesng.com/falana-dislike-way-efcc-fights-corruption/ |
