PoliticsSee Who Sheriff’s Faction Of PDP Elects Edo Governorship Flag bearer by Limitednow(op): 5:43am On Jun 30, 2016
MATHEW Iduoriyekemwem on Wednesday emerged the governorship candidate of the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State.

Iduoriyekemwen emerged the party’s flag bearer when his only opponent, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, stepped down shortly before the commencement of the primary.

A total of 576 delegates from the 192 wards in the 18 Local Government Areas of the state participated in the primary conducted at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

The party was earlier denied access to the stadium by the police, which locked up the main entrance.

In his opening address, Ebenezer Alabi, the state Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, attributed the delay in the commencement of the primary to logistic challenge.

We had expected that the entire process will be concluded on time, but we had to sort things out with the police on the use of the stadium,” Alabi said.

He assured the delegates that the result of the primary would reflect their choices.
Also speaking, Sherif, who was represented by the Acting National Deputy Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougo, appealed to the leaders of the PDP to come together in the interest of the party.

While insisting that the Sheriff-led executive remained the recognised faction, Ojougo declared that the former Borno State governor meant well for the party.

He linked the crisis in the PDP to the “personal interest” of some of its leaders ahead of the 2019 presidential election.

Ojougo said: “Those fighting are doing so because of their interest in the presidential election of 2019.

“I want to beg these leaders in the name of God to allow Sheriff to do the good things he wants to do for this party and return power to the people.

“Sheriff has no interest in 2019 and he has told me that repeatedly.

“Sheriff remains the authentic national chairman of this party.

“For the benefit of doubt, whoever emerges here will be the duly recognised candidate of the party for the September 10 governorship election in Edo.

“I urge you to go to INEC to find out if you are still in doubt.”

Earlier in his speech, Iduoriyekemwem said his interest in the governorship race was to take the state to greater height.

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP conducted a similar primary on June 20, which saw the emergence of Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its flag bearer.

Iduoriyekemwem, who participated in that primary, later faulted the process.

He described the exercise as “a predetermined process meant to install Ize-Iyamu as the candidate”.

With 481 votes, Iduoriyekemwem was returned unopposed by the chairman of the electoral committee, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak.

PoliticsThere’s A Cabal In Buhari's Government - Kwara APC by Limitednow(op): 9:10am On Jun 29, 2016
THE Kwara State Chapter Of All Progressives Congress on Tuesday backed the claims by embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki that “there is a government within the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The party also faulted the President’s response in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina.

The party made this known in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari.

Instead of embarking on a “futile drive to denounce and dismiss the obvious,” the APC in the state said it expected the Presidency to embrace introspection and take right steps in the interest of the nation.

He also accused Adesina of trying to create discord between the President and the Senate leadership.

Buhari said, “The statement by Mr. Femi Adesina on behalf of Mr. President is not only unpresidential, it also failed to convincingly dismiss the widely held view of Nigerians that, indeed, there is a government within the government of Mr. President.

“It is instructive to note that the Senate President is not the first Nigerian to express such observations.

“The Senate President, through the press statement he personally signed, only called the attention of Mr. President to the danger ahead if the ugly situation is permitted to fester.

“In fact, the statement by Mr. Adesina is the clearest indication that a government exists within the government of Mr. President. The President that we know, the President that we have worked with, the President that we have worked for, the President that we voted for, would not have directed his media adviser to issue such anunpresidential statement. That statement is a confirmation of the Senate President’s observation.

“The intention of people like Adesina in the Villa is to create a discord between Mr. President and the Senate President, but that will never happen.

“It is the same cabal that embarrassed Mr. President himself by padding the 2016 national budget, including the budget of Aso Rock, to the extent of inflating some figures in the Villa expenditures.

“It is the same cabal that has made it nearly impossible for many ministers and Special Advisers to have access to Mr. President. The Presidency should be reminded that a cabal hijacked and destroyed the government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.”

PoliticsTwo Ministers, Audu Ogbe, Senator Lokpobiri Named In N2bn Bribery scandal by Limitednow(op): 8:10am On Jun 29, 2016
THE Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe and the Minister of State in the ministry, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, have been named in a N2 billion bribery scandal.

This is coming  in spite of the anti-corruption posture of the President Mohammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

A bribery scheme by the two ministers concerning  a recent part-payment  of  N15 billion to contractors owed by the ministry. The contractors executed projects under the fertilizer subsidy programme, Growth  Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS), introduced by the administration of  former President Goodluck Jonathan in order to enhance farmers’ access to subsidised fertilizer.

The amount is part of a N56 billion debt owed the contractors by the Federal  and state governments participating in the programme but the ministry is in charge of payments to contractors.

All participating states gave an Irrevocable Standing Order (ISO) for their portion (25%) of the Subsidy amount to be deducted directly from their statutory monthly allocation from the federation account as due.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development (FMARD), as the agency in charge of the administration of the program has the responsibility of coordinating, managing and effecting the payment of the subsidy to all participating inputs supplier companies.

The Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS) is a Federal government initiative aimed at subsidising the costs of major agricultural inputs, such as fertilizer and seedlings for farmers, yam tubers and yam plantation, yam tubers and yam plantation based on the GESS policy, the federal and state governments equally contribute the balance of 50 percent being the approved subsidy amount for onward payment to participating inputs (fertilizer) suppliers.

The Farm Inputs Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FUISAN ), is the association that made the programme successful.

But following the release of N350 billion by government for the payment of contractors owed by government as contained in the 2016 budget, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was allocated funds including N15 billion to effect the part-payment to over 50 contractors owed by the ministry.

Following the release of the money to the ministry, the two ministers called a meeting of all the contractors owed by the ministry in Abuja. At the meeting, Chief Ogbeh confirmed the release of some funds to the ministry including N15 billion being part-payment for work done by the contractors, most of which were carried out in 2014.

The contractors were assured that payment would be made in such a way to cover all the contractors owed by the ministry pending the release of more funds by government. The ministers assured the contractors that they would be paid on “pro-rata” basis. But to the chagrin of the contractors, the ministry expended the N15 billion on only three contractors, one of which was Notore Chemicals PLC, a fertilizer and agro-allied company linked to Chief James Ibori who is currently serving jail time in U.K for corruption.

Investigations showed that the payment was a product of a decision to deduct N2 billion from source and concentrate the payment on only three contractors, who were part of the deal. The three contractors were paid N13 billion leaving in the lurch the rest of the contractors, who were earlier promised payment on pro-rata basis.

A group, Society for Good Governance (SGG), is therefore asking the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) to investigate the payment.

“We are, by this petition, asking the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the payment to determine why the ministers and the permanent secretary reneged on the earlier arrangement to pay all the contractors who have been owed for many years now and decided to pay only three contractors.

“We urge you to look into the deal between the two ministers, the permanent secretary and the three contractors that resulted in the payment of N13 billion to them. What happened to the remaining N2 billion. Why renege on the payment of the other contractors?”, the group queried.

A source familiar with the development said the decision to pay only three contractors a whooping N15 billion was curious after the minister had promised to expend the part-payment on all the contractors involved.

“The question on everybody’s lip is why pay only three contractors after the agreement that all the contractors would be captured . These are people who collected bank loans to execute these projects. The initial amount borrowed has not been paid and they are not  even talking about the interest that has gone out of the roof after many years”, the source said.

PoliticsSheriff Appoints Cairo Ojougboh As Deputy National chairman by Limitednow(op): 7:35pm On Jun 28, 2016
FACTIONAL national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Sheriff has appointed Cairo Ojougboh as the party’s acting deputy chairman to replace, Uche Secondus, who has since identified with the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party.

Mr. Ojougboh is the immediate past national vice chairman, South-south of the PDP, but was one of the officials whose removal was announced at the last national convention held in Port Harcourt on May 21.

The letter announcing the appointment of Mr. Ojougboh, signed by Mr. Sheriff and his faction’s national secretary, Wale Oladipo, said “please be informed that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in a meeting held on the 28th of June 2016, and having received nomination from the Concerned PDP stakeholders (Abuja Convention Group) and major stakeholders in the South-south has appointed you (Ojougboh) as the Acting Deputy National Chairman of the party pending the conduct of election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of the erstwhile Deputy National Chairman. This appointment takes immediate effect.”

The letter urged Mr. Ojougboh to discharge the functions of his office with dedication to ensure the progress of the party.

Nigeria’s major opposition party has continued to move from one crisis to another since its National Convention in May.

Mr. Sheriff had announced the cancellation of the convention, citing court orders, but the other leaders of the party went ahead to hold the convention and announced Mr. Sheriff’s sack.

The convention also appointed a national caretaker committee with a former Kaduna state governor, Ahmed Makarfi as acting chairman and Ben Obi as National Secretary.

Mr. Sheriff insists he remains the chairman of the PDP.

PoliticsEFCC Acting Chairman, Magu, To Take Promotional Exams This week by Limitednow(op): 7:04pm On Jun 28, 2016
THE Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Magu is to take his promotional exams this week, a reliable source has revealed.

The informant noted that Magu, a level 14, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who is to be promoted to the role of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) is “neck deep” in corruption and his promotion would be at the expense of his superior.

A recent report allegedly linked Magu with a member of the Arms Probe Committee, Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd.), who is said to have been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged fraud.

The news story published by This Day, claiming that Muhammed (rtd.) was a front for an EFFC official and ONSA, stopped short of mentioning Ibrahim Mustafa Magu and the current National Security Adviser (NSA) Mohammed Babagana Monguno as the officials of the anti-graft agencies whom Mr. Muhammed was allegedly fronting for. So far, evidence with DSS indicted Magu, whose statement has since been taken by the Service last week but was not made public.

Although the allegation of corruption against Magu was immediately debunked by Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s head of Media and Publicity, a whistle blower who spoke to Adenike Lucas confirmed that the anti-graft czar’s by passes a level 17 regular EFCC officer who is Magu’s senior.

Speaking from his hide out, the source expressed concern over the promotion about to be given to Magu, adding that “It is well known that the police force like most other security institutions within Nigeria, operates based on seniority. Even though, Magu must proceed on few weeks course, as a requisite for the promotion. Indicating the need to appoint the level 17 Regular EFCC Officer over a level 14.

Presently, it is claimed that “Magu and his God father NSA chief advise, Monguno are hell bent on preventing President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) from getting information that a level 17 Regular EFCC Officer exist with the anti-graft agency.”

Reports surfaced last week that the President had sent Magu’s name to the Senate for confirmation. This has left Nigerians acquainted with the ‘corruption’ saga which Magu is supposed to be heavily involved, very worried.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), has called on Monguno and Magu, to both resign over the alleged shady dealings they superintended at the Presidential Investigative Committee on Arms Procurement.

In a statement made available to journalists, on Wednesday, by its National Chairman, Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu CNPP said it was not possible that Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd) who was arrested by the DSS for alleged fraudulent deals involving top government officials could have acted without Monguno’s involvement.

Others are hoping that the Senate would not clear the Borno state indigene, until an investigation is conducted into the “diversion of troop’s allowances” and “other corruption case he is shielding for NSA”.

In a detailed discussion with an EFCC staff, it was revealed that there was a diversion of troop’s allowance, when Monguno headed the Peace Keeping troops, totalling about $1m. This money was frozen by the Economic Governance Unit of the EFCC, which was formerly indirectly headed by Magu (Monguno’s God son) during the tenure of Ibrahim Lamorde.

“This is part of why he wants his Godson to head the EFCC. So his interest can be well protected, the source intoned.

“No one is opposed to the Fight against Corruption by President Muhammadu Buhari’s credible Government. But truth is that those who must prosecute this course of PMB must do so with clean hands.”

“Magu and his God-Father Monguno should tell Nigerians about their romance. Little did PMB know about the dodgy dealings of the NSA, who is trying to rubbish Abba Kyari (Chief of Staff to the President), Lawal Musa Daura (Director General of the Department of State Services), Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Minster for Interior), Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Mamman Daura and others.

“On this, PMB should ask the NSA about the diverted $1m troop allowance frozen by EFCC in the past. He should ask the NSA about the illegal properties in Apo and locations in Abuja. Payments for these illegal properties, several of which he made single cash transaction with payments in dollars”.

PoliticsPDP State Chairmen Back Makarfi by Limitednow(op): 6:09pm On Jun 27, 2016
CHAIRMEN of state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday threw their weight behind the Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee.

The chairmen, who paid a solidarity visit to Makarfi in Abuja, said they would continue to respect the decision of the May 21 national convention of the party that set up the Makarfi committee.

Leader of the delegation, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed said as delegates to the convention, they were bound by the outcome of the convention, adding that doing otherwise would amount to undermining the national leadership of the party.

Mohammed, who is the chairman of the Federal Capital Territory chapter, urged the factional national chairman, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, to respect the decision of the convention in the in the overall interest of the party.

He maintained that the Port Harcourt convention was a product of the party’s constitution.

Responding, Makarfi said the crisis in the party was proof that the PDP is worth struggling for and that the committee’s mandate was to bring everybody on board.
PDP State Chairmen Backs MakarfiAccording to him, dragging the crisis for too long could be injurious to the health of the party, adding that the committee’s mandate did not include dissolution of the existing state executives.

PoliticsWhy Saraki, Ekweremadu Was Granted Bail – judge by Limitednow(op): 5:40pm On Jun 27, 2016
A Federal High Court in Abuja today granted bail to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the fourth defendant over charges of alleged forgery of the Nigerian Senate Standing Rules.

The trial judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu, said that the decision was in line with the provisions of the constitution adding that the accused would be remanded in Kuje Prison, if they fail to meet the bail conditions.

Justice Halilu told the court that the essence of bail was to ensure the “liberty of an accused person who is considered innocent until proven guilty and ensure his attendance to trial”.

“The decision to grant bail is at the discretion of the court which should be granted judicially and judiciously, following laid down constitution in respect of the nature of offence.

“Indeed I have considered and soldered the applications and counters filed.

“The provisions of the ACJA lends support that an accused person shall be granted bail to enable him attend trial.

“I have listened to the position of the prosecution on the third defendant – Senator Saraki – and it is only fair and natural that an accused person, who is contoured innocent, shall be given opportunity to prepare for their trial.

“I shall not unnecessarily over flog the position they occupy,” he said, once again listing their positions at the National Assembly.

Justice Halilu further stressed that the applications for bail conditions sideline the arguments of their lawyers for all the defendants regardless of the swaying positions of the prosecution.

“I shall allow the one, two and four accused to go home on bail on the conditions that two reasonable sureties who must be Nigerians – men or women – who must own properties in Asokoro Maitama Wuse two or Garki.

“Failure to fulfil the bail conditions, they shall be remanded in Kuje Prison,” he stressed.

The judge adjourned the proceedings till July 11 for commencement of trial.

PoliticsI Am Prepared To Go To Jail - Saraki by Limitednow(op): 4:59pm On Jun 27, 2016
THE Senate President, Bukola Saraki says he is prepared to carry his cross rather than yield to “the nefarious agenda of a few individuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising the federal government to satisfy their selfish interests”.

Saraki, who appeared at the Federal High Court today, described his latest legal battle as proof of the “persecution and distraction” that have been visited on him.

“Today we the leaders of the Nigerian Senate reiterate our innocence against the charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federal Government of Nigeria at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on the allegations of forgery of the Senate Standing Rules document.

In our view, the charges filed by the Attorney General represent a violation of the principle of the Separation of Powers between the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch as enshrined in our Constitution. Furthermore, it is farcical to allege that a criminal act occurred during Senate procedural actions and the mere suggestion demonstrates a desperate overreach by the office of the Attorney General. These trumped up charges is only another phase in the relentless persecution of the leadership of the Senate

This misguided action by the Attorney General begs the question, how does this promote the public interest and benefit the nation? At a time when the whole of government should be working together to meet Nigeria’s many challenges, we are once again distracted by the Executive Branch’s inability to move beyond a leadership election among Senate peers. It was not an election of Senate peers and Executive Branch participants.

Over the past year the Senate has worked to foster good relations with the Executive Branch. It is in all of our collective interests to put aside divisions and get on with the nation’s business. We risk alienating and losing the support of the very people who have entrusted their national leaders to seek new and creative ways to promote a secure and prosperous Nigeria. As leaders and patriots, it is time to rise above partisanship and to move forward together.

However, what has become clear is that there is now a government within the government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.
This latest onslaught on the Legislature represents a clear and present danger to the democracy Nigerians fought hard to win and preserve. The suit filed on behalf of the Federal government suggests that perhaps some forces in the Federal Republic have not fully embraced the fact that the Senate’s rules and procedures govern how the legislative body adjudicates and resolves its own disputes.

Let it be abundantly clear, both as a citizen and as a foremost Legislator, I will continue to rise above all the persecution and distraction that have been visited on me. In the words of Martin Luther King Junior, “the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy”.

I will remain true and committed to the responsibilities that my citizenship and my office impose on me. Without doubt, the highest of those responsibilities is the steadfast refusal to surrender to the subversion of our democracy and the desecration of the Senate.

This is a cross I am prepared to carry. If yielding to the nefarious agenda of a few individuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising the Federal government to satisfy their selfish interests is the alternative to losing my personal freedom, let the doors of jails be thrown open and I shall be a happy guest”.

PoliticsActing IG Writes Buhari, Demands Immediate Retirement Of 30 Senior officers by Limitednow(op): 10:57am On Jun 27, 2016
THE Acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has written to President Muhammadu Buhari demanding the immediate retirement of at least 30 senior officers of the Force.

Sources knowledgeable in the matter said the letter from Idris to Buhari was received at the Presidency on Friday.

The matter, it was gathered, is being handled by Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari.

It was gathered that those to be retired are mainly of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Ibrahim was himself as AIG before his upliftment.

Idris is demanding the sack of the AIGs because though some of them are his colleagues in terms of course and rank, they are his senior in terms of promotion.

Most of them became AIG before Idris did.

As at press time, there has been no reaction from the Force Headquarters and the Presidency on the development.

David Cameron has resigned as prime minister after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

Mr Cameron said the result was the “will of the British people” which was an “instruction which must be delivered”.

He said the country required “fresh leadership” to “steer the country” out of the EU.

He said he will “steady the ship” over the coming months before stepping down within three months.

The referendum, called by Mr Cameron, delivered a shock victory for the Leave campaign.

The Brexit vote immediately sent the pound tumbling and sparked calls for Mr Cameron’s resignation.

PoliticsRe: N4.7B Poll Cash: Three Mansions Traced To Fayose’s associate - EFCC by Limitednow(op): 6:57am On Jun 24, 2016
PoliticsN4.7B Poll Cash: Three Mansions Traced To Fayose’s associate - EFCC by Limitednow(op): 6:52am On Jun 24, 2016
THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced three posh houses to an associate of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, The Nation is reporting.

The houses, one in Abuja and two in Lagos, are believed to have been bought with part of the N1.219 billion pumped into the 2014 governorship election.

The cash was believed to be from the office of the National security Adviser.
Fayose has denied having any dealing with the office, while Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) was in charge.

The cash, detectives believe, was from the N4.745 billion allocated to a former Minister of State (Defence), Musiliu Obanikoro, by the ONSA as a war chest to win the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States in 2014.

The EFCC has facts to believe that the associate allegedly acted as a front for the governor, who is under investigation.

The agency may seize the properties under the Interim Forfeiture Clause of the EFCC Act.

According to a source, investigators have established a link between the N1.29 billion and the three mansions.

The source said: “We have been able to trace the three mansions in Abuja and Lagos to a key associate of Fayose.

“Our investigators have retrieved relevant documents, including the mode of payment for the houses.

“Part of the N1.29billion credited to Fayose was used for the acquisition of the mansions. We are suspecting that the associate allegedly acted as a front for the governor.

“We will certainly invoke the appropriate laws to seize the assets after conclusion of investigation.”

The Forfeiture Order in Sections 26 and 29 of the EFCC Act reads: “Any property subject to forfeiture under this Act may be seized by the commission in the following circumstances- (a) the seizure is incidental to an arrest or search; or (b) in the case of property liable to forfeiture upon process issued by the court following an application made by the Commission in accordance with the prescribed rules

“Whenever property is seized under any of the provisions of this Act, the Commission may-(a) place the property under seal; or (b) remove the property to a place designated by the Commission.

“Properties taken or detained under this section shall be deemed to be in custody of the Commission, subject only to an order of a court.”

The EFCC is said to be probing clues on the governor’s alleged acquisition of a choice property in Dubai.

“We are looking at these clues and exploring the Mutual Legal Assistance understanding between Nigeria and the UAE to authenticate the information at our disposal and to take necessary legal action,” the source said, pleading not to be named “so as not to jeopardise the investigation”.

Also on Thursday, the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, demanded a retraction of Fayose’s allegation in which he claimed to have uncovered how Mrs. Buhari was mentioned as having transferred funds to a convicted former United States lawmaker, Williams Jefferson.

In a letter dispatched through her legal representatives, Mrs. Buhari said Fayose’s action was directly responsible for the publication of the “very wild and unfounded” allegations in the media.

Foreign AffairsUK Votes To Leave EU by Limitednow(op): 6:00am On Jun 24, 2016
THE UK has voted by 52% to 48% to leave the European Union after 43 years in an historic referendum, a BBC forecast suggests.

London and Scotland voted strongly to stay in the EU but the remain vote has been undermined by poor results in the north of England.

Voters in Wales and the English shires have backed Brexit in large numbers.

The pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985 as the markets reacted to the results.

Referendum turnout was higher than at last year’s general election.

Labour’s Shadow chancellor John McDonnell said the Bank of England may have to intervene to shore up the pound, which lost 3% within moments of the first result showing a strong result for Leave in Sunderland and fell as much as 6.5% against the euro.

Independence day

UKIP leader Nigel Farage – who has campaigned for the past 20 years for Britain to leave the EU – told supporters “this will be a victory for ordinary people, for decent people”.
Mr Farage – who predicted a Remain win at the start of the night after polls suggested that would happen – said Thursday, 23 June would “go down in history as our independence day”.

He called on Prime Minister David Cameron, who called the referendum but campaigned passionately for a Remain vote, to quit “immediately”.

A Labour source said: “If we vote to leave, Cameron should seriously consider his position.”

But pro-Leave Conservatives including Boris Johnson and Michael Gove have signed a letter to Mr Cameron urging him to stay on whatever the result.

Labour former Europe Minister Keith Vaz told the BBC the British people had voted with their “emotions” and rejected the advice of experts who had warned about the economic impact of leaving the EU.
He added: “It will be catastrophic for our country, for the rest of Europe and for the rest of the world.”

Exit process

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that the EU vote “makes clear that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union” after all 32 local authority areas returned majorities for Remain.

Britain would be the first country to leave the EU since its formation – but a leave vote will not immediately mean Britain ceases to be a member of the 28-nation bloc.

That process could take a minimum of two years, with Leave campaigners suggesting during the referendum campaign that it should not be completed until 2020 – the date of the next scheduled general election.

The prime minister will have to decide when to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which would give the UK two years to negotiate its withdrawal.

Once Article 50 has been triggered a country can not rejoin without the consent of all member states.

Mr Cameron has previously said he would trigger Article 50 as soon as possible after a leave vote but Boris Johnson and Michael Gove who led the campaign to get Britain out of the EU have said he should not rush into it.

But they also said they want to make immediate changes before the UK actually leaves the EU, such as curbing the power of EU judges and limiting the free movement of workers, potentially in breach the UK’s treaty obligations.

The government will also have to negotiate its future trading relationship with the EU and fix trade deals with non-EU countries.

In Whitehall and Westminster, there will now begin the massive task of unstitching the UK from more than 40 years of EU law, deciding which directives and regulations to keep, amend or ditch.

The Leave campaign argued during a bitter four-month referendum campaign that the only way Britain could “take back control” of its own affairs would be to leave the EU.

Leave dismissed warnings from economists and international bodies about the economic impact of Brexit as “scaremongering” by a self-serving elite.

AYODELE Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State says a top management team of Zenith Bank Plc on Thursday evening begged him over the bank’s alleged role in funding Mr. Fayose’s election.

The governor says Zenith Bank helped in funding his election in 2014, in his bid to deny an allegation by the government linking him to a $2.1 billion arms money reportedly diverted by the former Goodluck Jonathan administration.

But Mr. Fayose accuses the bank of lying to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission about the transaction, and his public comments on the case are believed aimed at getting even with the bank’s leaders.

The bank has distanced itself from the governor’s election.

But, in a statement on Thursday, by its spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Mr. Fayose said the bank’s top management met with him and begged him to let the matter be.

The statement was accompanied with photographs showing the governor and some officials he said were from the bank.

“Their visit to the governor followed a reported denial by the bank that it was not part of the funding of the election,” the statement said.

“The team was led by an Executive Director, Sola Oladipo.

“It also had two zonal directors of the bank and the Ado-Ekiti branch manager.

“When accosted by newsmen, the ED said they only came to see the governor.

“Asked whether the bank really dissociated itself from the claim by the governor that it was part of the funding of the election, Shola could only mutter some inaudible words.

“He eventually said the spokesman for the bank was not on the team and could not say anything.

“While commenting on the development, Governor Fayose said the bank officials came to beg him over the issue.

“They were begging me and that the matter should not go beyond this level. I asked them why did they go to the EFCC to tell lies. Why did they have to lie that money came from the Office of the National Security Adviser? If the money is for me why did they have to link with me what is not,” the statement said.

PoliticsFayose Insists Zenith Bank Majorly Funded His Election by Limitednow(op): 7:05pm On Jun 23, 2016
THE Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the alleged denial of the involvement of Zenith Bank Plc in the funding of his election in 2014, asking the bank should come out with an official statement on the matter.

The governor was reacting to a news report in the media claiming that the bank had dissociated itself from the funding of his election.

‎Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the governor said, “I stand by my claim that Zenith Bank Plc majorly funded my election in June 2014.

“I don’t expect an organisation like Zenith Bank to stay in a corner in a matter of national concern like this and be talking.

“Rather, I expect the Zenith Bank to issue an official statement not as feeble as this one being peddled in the media so that I can begin the second stage of my revelations.

“My statement was made in the open and if I can accuse an institution like Zenith Bank in the open, I expect the institution to give an official reply.

“All that have been claimed to have been said by the Zenith Bank in the media can be situated in the realm of rumour.

“‎And I want to refer the APC, the Zenith Bank and the EFCC to John chapter 8 verses 6-7, which says, ‘This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. When they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, he that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone‎.'”

“Let those who are orchestrating this know that failure awaits them.”

PoliticsHalliburton: Fayose Challenges Aisha Buhari To Travel To US To Prove Innocence by Limitednow(op): 5:36pm On Jun 22, 2016
GOVERNOR Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has challenged Nigeria’s First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, to travel to the United States of America to prove her innocence in the Halliburton scam.

Fayose said this on Wednesday in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, insinuating that Hajia Buhari has been avoiding travelling to the US in order to evade arrest.

Fayose had on Monday said Hajia Buhari was the person indicted by a US Court for transferring $170,000 to indicted US Congressman, Williams Jefferson, in the Halliburton scandal.

Though several sources had said she was not the one, Fayose insisted that Hajia Buhari had more to reveal than she had agreed to.

He said that was why she had refused to travel with her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, on the three occasions he had visited the US since assuming power.

He also said rather than attend a conference to which she was invited, Hajia Buhari sent Toyin, the wife of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Fayose said in the statement by Adelusi on Wednesday that if the President’s wife was certain she was not the one indicted in the Halliburton scandal, she should visit the United States of America to convince Nigerians.

He said: “It is on record that the President has visited USA three times and his wife did not travel with him. Equally, she ought to have visited USA last year September to chair a United Nations programme but she sent wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki to represent her.”

PoliticsMbaka Speaks About Buhari's Health Status by Limitednow(op):
FIERY cleric and the Spiritual Director, ‎Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria, AMEN, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has disclosed of his recent vision concerning President Muhammadu Buhari’s ailment.

‎Mbaka, who made the revelation in one of his Adoration programmes, stated that several efforts he made to reach people close to Buhari over the vision had remained unsuccessful as they refused picking his calls.

Mbaka according to report said the President's chances of recovery may be slim but that with the prayer of the members of the congregation, he would receive healing.

He equally declared that there were some people who were not happy that Buhari was alive.

“Such people hate everything about the President”, he stated, while narrating the vision which he saw before the President’s present trip to London.

According to him, in the vision, the President was critically sick and was being flown abroad for treatment.

“His health was in a bad shape and he was asking that (Fr Mbaka) should pray for him. None among the people I have called, picked my calls.

“People think I speak with Buhari everyday. When people climb into power, they are dazed. It is a long dream. Our job is to pray for him but there are things that he must do and there is no way to communicate it to him”, Fr. Mbaka said.

He, therefore, asked the congregation to stand up and lift their hands up as he began to pray for the health and healing of President Buhari.

The prayer went thus: “We call on Michael the arch angel, Uriel the archangel, Gabriel the archangel to carry you in their wings back to life. They angels are bringing you back in their wings. In Psalm 79:11 the Lord restores those who have already being appointed to die. Are you the one that has been appointed to die? God himself will bring you back to life. Remember His word that when the thief comes to steal, kill you and destroy you, I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. Have life now more abundantly in Jesus name Amen.

“We pray for our President and anyone that is suffering such a dangerous disease. We lift our healing hands for divine healing upon our president. Wherever he is, may he be healed in Jesus name Amen.

“The doctors in Nigeria are nursing fear that he may not survive but we have a healing God. His name is specialist in impossibilities. In Mathew 19:26, He can make the impossible, possible. In Mark 10:27 He can make the impossible, possible. In Luke 1:37, He can make the impossible, possible. In Jeremiah 32:17, He can make the impossible, possible. In Job 42:2, He can do all things and no purpose of His can be thwarted. Hallelujah.

“We stretch our hands of healing upon our President and you that may be sick here. I take you as somebody who is as if to say he is dead already. Have they said that you are dead and there is nothing that can be done in your situation? Have your kidney died? Have your liver died? Have your heart or any organ of your body been confirmed dead? Look at what happened in John 11:39. When Jesus asked them to open the tomb of Lazarus, they told him that by now he must be smelling for he was dead for about four days now. After all this, I heard Jesus talking in verse 43 telling Lazarus to come out. Let that thing that is dead come back to life in Jesus name Amen. Let your dead vision come back to life. Let your dead destiny come back to life. Let your dead passion come back to life in Jesus name Amen.

“Whatever is dead in your body should come back to life in Jesus name Amen. Your dead success, come back to life. Your dead business, come back to life. Your dead vocation, come back to life. Your dead gifts come back to life. God will show you the path to life.

“We stand in in Psalm 110:1 where the Lord said to my lord to sit at His right hand and I decree that You shall be the child of the right hand of God of Psalm 17:7, Psalm 31:15, psalm 31:5 and psalm 98:1.

“In the book of Mathew 27 the Bible says that when the blood Jesus dropped and he cried with a loud voice, the veils were torn. As this was happening the tombs opened. I stand in Matthew 27 and minister in verse 53 and 54. When the tomb opened, those who were dead in the tomb came back to life and move about the city. This was because the blood of Jesus dropped on the ground.

“As the blood of Jesus drops on the ground now, anybody here who has been killed and buried in the spirit and is just a moving corpse, let him or her come back to life now in Jesus name Amen. Let your spirit come back to life in Jesus name Amen. Is there any good thing or virtue in our country that has died or occultically being held bounds? I send the Holy Ghost fire upon every temple of Satan that is accommodating any name of the Child of God in Jesus name; Holy Ghost fire. Holy Ghost Fire!!!”

While concluding the prayer, he said “I want the enemies to see our President shining, prospering and moving majestically in glory. The chances of his healing may be little but now with our prayers and faith, the chances of his coming out is high.

“The spiritual energy with which we make this prayer is enormous that it shall do this for us. If you are ready for testimony, my God is ready with miracles.”

Nigerians are expecting the President, who has been away on a medical vacation, back to the country, tomorrow (Sunday).

PoliticsIPOB Pledges Allegiance To Niger Delta avengers by Limitednow(op): 11:21pm On Jun 18, 2016
The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) has officially pledged support for the Niger Delta Avengers, a group which has been operating against the Oil installations in the Oil region of the Country in quest to gain freedom from Nigeria.

In a press statement signed by IPOB’s spokes persons, Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya and Barrister Emma Nmezu, the statement categorically stated that the IPOB supports the freedom fighters ”the Niger Delta Avengers”.

Read the Press statement below:

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA SUPPORT OUR KITH & KIN – THE NIGER DELTA AVENGERS

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu hereby state that we support our kith and kin – the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), who are fighting for the freedom of our people from the enslaving Islamic Republic of Nigerian Government. We want to place it on record that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has no connection with some groups who are claiming on the pages of Nigerian newspapers that they do not support our fellow freedom fighters – the NDA.
We make reference to a particular group which is a well-known turncoat and their leader who has been bribed with oil blocks allocations in the oil-rich areas of Biafraland. This same compromised group is known to have started the ugly incidence of kidnapping in Biafraland and their members often used as thugs and hired killers for politicians in Nigeria.

The NDA have consistently stated that the release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a precondition for any discussion with Nigeria. Unfortunately and disgracefully, the incompetent and intellectually challenged Nigerian Government has swept this demand under the carpet while magnifying the notion of amnesty payments and resource control as reasons for the NDA‘s actions. For the avoidance of doubt, the NDA is fighting for the freedom of the people of Biafra and not for amnesty payment or for resource control as some commentators would like to believe. When Biafra is finally liberated from the bondage called Nigeria, resources shall be controlled by the owners of the land where those resources are located. The perennially incompetent Nigerian Government should stop deceiving the entire world into believing that what the freedom fighters of NDA are demanding is resource control.

Amnesty is associated with criminality and a people who are fighting for their freedom should not be unjustly termed criminals. The notion and talk of amnesty for our own freedom fighters (the NDA) is a misnomer and should be taken out of any discourse. On the contrary, amnesty should be granted to the Nigerian Government especially to those from the criminal class masquerading as elites who unjustly appropriated oil & gas wells and other resources in Biafraland to themselves and their cohorts to the detriment of the masses. These robbers should be associated with amnesty for their economic criminality not the NDA.

As far as IPOB and the generality of Biafrans are concerned, the NDA is doing the right thing by demanding the freedom our people from the perpetually repressive Nigerian state. Unlike some groups pretending to be Biafran freedom fighters, the NDA and IPOB have a common ideology and objective which is the absolute liberation of the nation of Biafra from the British-contraption created by an alien called Frederick Lugard who is not even a black African. It defies logic to think that a white man can come all the way from Britain to create and name a country in already inhabited Africa for black people.

Ironically, most of the leaders of the compromized groups are speaking against the great work that the NDA are doing. These shameless scavenging Hausa-Fulani sponsored slaves in Biafraland have placed the needs of their stomach and their families above the overall national interest of the liberation of their people who are under the enslavement of the Nigerian Government in concert with the British Government who have never supported the liberation of any christian country in the world. The leaders of these obviously compromised groups have gone into hotel business, real estate industry, oil & gas extraction business and other profit-generating endeavours and have for long abandoned the quest for the freedom of the people of Biafra.
It is not a surprise therefore that these compromized groups have now come out to distance themselves from the genuine efforts of the NDA that is aimed at fulfilling the yearning and expectations of every Biafran. We reiterate that IPOB is totally and absolutely in support of the NDA as they march towards the unconditional liberation of our people from the evil grip of Nigerian Government. We plead with the NDA not to be discouraged by the comments and antics of these so-called leaders of these compromized groups and some other charlatans who parade themselves as freedom fighters. The NDA should know that the only ally they have now is IPOB under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu.

IPOB is warning the extremist Nigerian Government of Buhari that should they invade any part of Biafraland, as intelligence indicate they are planning to, then IPOB will order every youth in Biafraland to join NDA to defend Biafraland. Muhammadu Buhari and his gangs massacred Biafrans in their millions at Owerri in 1968 but Biafrans will never allow such atrocity to be repeated on Biafraland ever again. We shall fight to the last man standing because Biafra is our life and the restoration of the nation of Biafra is a task that must be achieved.

IPOB wholeheartedly support the NDA as they work diligently and heroically towards the liberation of all parts of Biafraland from the Lugard created abomination called Nigeria.

Signed

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has taken the former governor of Adamawa State, Bala Ngilari to hospital for urgent medical attention, after his blood pressure shot up excessively during interrogation.

Ngilari who has been in the EFCC net is being grilled by officials of the commission on corruption-related allegations.

The former governor of Adamawa was apprehended following a report from a former Nigerian ambassador to the US, Hassan Adamu, which indicted him.

Hassan Adamu, had told the EFCC that when the chairman of PDP in Adamawa state, Joel Madaki, and himself took custody of the money from Fidelity Bank, it was taken to the Adamawa state government house in bullion vans by officials of the bank.

Bala Ngillari has been detained for his alleged role in the distribution of N450 million for the re-election of former president Goodluck Jonathan

Ngilari was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for medical treatment after he complained of ill health.

Ngilari was detained at the Gombe zonal office of the commission on Thursday in connection with the on going investigation of N450 million campaign fund sent to Adamawa state from Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) headquarters.

A source at the hospital confirmed the incident and said he was taken to the emergency ward where he was attended to by two medical personnel. Ngilari had complained after he was grilled for several hours at the office of the anti-graft agency.

According to reports, Ngilari’s blood pressure had shot up while doctors managed to stabilise it as they monitored his response to treatment.

An EFCC source said Ngilari had been complaining of health challenges especially his high blood pressure and pile. He could barely sit for a long time without complaining of pain.

Top officials who served during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan are being investigated by the EFCC on corruption related issues. In a related development, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, one of the key governorship candidates of the PDP was arrested by the EFCC.

EKITI State Governor, Ayo Fayose has compared ousted Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to a new bride who had to be dumped because she was found to be HIV positive.

Fayose said: “Without doubt, I did not beg him but I supported his coming. And when you act within ambits of time the information you have at a given time, I am not someone that will say I did not support Sheriff.

THE Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Godwin Emefiele has written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari about the recent Forex policy declared by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Emefiele in the letter, which was leaked to the Reuters news agency explained to the president the foreign exchange plan announced on June 15.

The CBN governor further noted that the bank hopes the local currency will finally trade at around 250 per dollar, a level the president has “approved”.

“I must assure Your Excellency that we are indeed reasonably optimistic that at some point the rate will settle around 250 naira,” he says in the letter.
