Food for thought- Any ideas?

No need for that! undecided
Assuming you are correct, you should know that you still need to go to court to challenge today's ruling. I’m sure that anyone considering your appeal will remember the last un-designated protest that resulted in the burning and destruction of courthouses and its subsequent impact on their working conditions before repairs were made.

Pay attention to what your Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land, instead says! undecided
It's a valid court ruling; if you disagree, you can take it to court. I support protests but we must ensure they don't lead to chaos, violence, or damage to public or private property.

Kobojunkiee:
Again, the courts have no such power because the Constitution clearly states what should take place instead. undecided
I believe the courts acted appropriately in this case, as long as there are designated protest areas, given the legitimate concerns about potential riots or violence.

9jatriot:
The recovery that is hoped for, (note that I used the word hope because Nigeria matter never follows a straight line) is in the reduction of USD demand that petrol was gulping. It is hoped that if assuming for academic purposes that $1M is what is available for everyone to bid for, and petrol takes up to $600k of that demand, the argument is that if petrol now takes only about $200k of the $1M available then there will now b about $800k available for other ventures that require USD compared to the only $400 available before the refinery came on board.

That is the hope right now.
That is hope we really need the rate to appreciate significantly and stabilize.

APC will never do a faceless protest that is likely to lead to chaos and destruction of public & private properties and you can check their antecedents. I personally have no business with any protest as long as the leaders are known and their demands are within the framework of our constitution.

LGs cannot be financially autonomous as long as they are not generating their own revenue. The only thing that is changing is who is controlling the finances of the LGs, from state governor to presidency undecided

Financial autonomy cannot happen without revenue decentralization. Who ever is paying the piper not all calls the tune, but also dictates the dance steps to go with it. undecided

In a true federal system, revenue is collected at the lower levels and relevant portion contributed upward and towards the center. In Nigeria we are distributing from the center, further ncentralizing finacial dependence, but some mumu are celebrating undecided
I’m sure within the next 90-days you’ll notice a renewed revenue drive by your LGA now that they’ve financial autonomy.

I’m looking forward to the implication of the new system on crimes.

I think if there’s one Nigerian traditional ruler a state governor can’t remove, that ruler would be the Oba of Benin! I’m not from Edo, but even a neutral like me would admit he’s the most prominent traditional ruler in Nigeria! Even a president would think twice about forcing him to abdicate. I reckon only a military Head Of State could have enough temerity to remove him and probably weather the storm that’s bound to follow!
Don’t listen to hype if the governor wants him gone he’s definitely a goner. It’s the law!

Meti99:
No!
You don't have idea of what Decentralization means..
It means they will be in control of mineral resources in their region, generate money, build their land and send some percentage to the FG purse and not the other way round where the federal government will invade your land because of one faulty constitution and make you live at their mercy.
I believe your explanation is your own opinion and not definition of decentralization; its beyond resource control. Again, financial autonomy of the LGA is a form of decentralization similar to resource control
Politics › Re: Supreme Court Got It Wrong On LG Autonomy- Punch Editorial Board by lionshare: 1:17pm On Jul 16, 2024
Meti99:
...
Because we run a Presidential system of government ..
Everyone focuses on Abuja.
That's why everybody still blames Tinubu for every shit.
Let us run a Decentralized system and see how the psyche of Nigerians will change instantly to their immediate government
Then Tinubu himself will have peace
LGA financial autonomy is also a form of decentralization as it devolves financial power to the LGA.
Politics › Re: Supreme Court Got It Wrong On LG Autonomy- Punch Editorial Board by lionshare: 10:24am On Jul 16, 2024
Meti99:
Well, it must not continue like that..
Let the FG return the stolen power of Resource Control to either states or regions..
There are regions that can turn their land to Dubai and Europe if power to control their mineral resources are returned to them ..
This forced unity is killing potentials..
Moreover, Tinubu is only a paper praised politician
What currently stops the States from functioning with the resources they currently control?

I hope those stupid Yorubas and Northerners supporting Peter Obi and his band of ipob Obidients are seeing this. Igbos will insult your leaders but protect theirs.
That's how they killed Northern and Western leaders but spared Igbo leaders during the Jan 66 coup. Same thing they are doing today.

Obidients don't want anything but an opportunity for Igbos to join the looting train that the NORTH, SW and SS already are on.
This is the exact reason LGA financial autonomy is a big win for country’s democracy. It’s a fact that people like to protect their own and this is one the reasons the British colonial leaders adopted indirect rule. Let’s see who the people will blame now that resources & responsibility will shift to them. For example you’ll local people watch people vandalize public property with no consequences let’s see if such will continue.

Are you trying to defend the "food is ready come and take" kind of government?
A system that allows laziness at grassroot
A system that rob people of ingenuity and creativity...
That shows how bereft of reality you are sir.
What thrives the economy and growth is where there's healthy competition in resource control management and development from grassroot.
The FG should concentrate on the exclusive list and allow regions to generate and manage their resources
Does the current system promotes any form of productivity? Is by laziness the people at the grassroots get to decide their own fate then that’s fair —they can choose to elect leaders that’ll squander their fortunes that’s the local people’s cup of coffee.
Politics › Re: Supreme Court Got It Wrong On LG Autonomy- Punch Editorial Board by lionshare: 5:34am On Jul 16, 2024
Seems the editorial board does not know nothing is static in life. Yes it’s true a federal system should’ve two federating units but nothing is cast in stone. If we can have Nigerian jollof why can’t we have our own version of federalism as long as it delivers value to the masses.

Besides we can work around ensuring payments of salary to all accredited staff as first line charge prior to any other expense. We must continually tinker with the systems to find what’s most ideal for our people.

Lastly, they’ve offered no solution to the governors sipping the financial juice of the joint account. What’s we need to do now is more sensitization of the local communities to understand that their role in ensuring that LGA leaders are accountable.

Mr. Man, you're wrong. No any arm of government the constitution gives power to shut down government. Mo one. It's only the court that can make such pronouncement and not lawmakers. It's absurd to say the least.
The worst that can happen, is that his infringement constitute impeachable offence and he is impeached for that but to want to shut down the whole government because a governor refused to re-represent a budget. It makes no sense.
Please google government shutdowns

The middle-class in Nigeria are more or less hypocrites because I do not understand the hype about the passport when there are many who are unable to get basic things like drivers-licence because of the unnecessary bottlenecks with the issuance process, but that is not a priority as the middle-class prefers the international passport. What about the other agencies under BTO? Why is it only the Immigration that seems more important? Can we conclude that is where the money is? What's going on with correction centers? Fire service? Civil defense? I do not understand how passport, which is a middle-class problem, affects the masses. Let's focus on what we deliver significant to the vast majority of the masses, not some section of the elite-public.
