yommen: You are more ignorant Sir. The guy you replied asked if the transmission line can accommodate 10,000mw successfully but you insulted him of ignorance only to show us how 4,200mw is transmitted. Does 10k sound like 4.2k? Are you sensible at all? Is the transmission infrastructure actually capable of transmitting 10,000k across Nigeria? It will obviously most likely collapse still. Me now wondering what is the result of all monies spent by OBJ to GEJ to Buhari on power!!! Little time, some people will praise some politicians over others. I hope you know posts here are editable? |

Politics › Re: LG Autonomy Will Lead To Chaos – Governor Soludo Signs Bill To Deduct Funds by lionshare: 7:34am On Oct 16, 2024 |
Kukutenla: But the Nigerian constitution never gave LG autonomy neither did it list them as federating units. LGs do not have any role in amendment of the constitution nor in carrying out state functions. What Tinubu and his fellow journeymen at SC did was to use illegality to cure illegality. Well, like I said then, illegality will come full circle. If the FG really wants the LG to function, they know what to do. But of course, the FG does not want to lose its sweets while its chooking eyes into another's. That's what bred this. Soludo even tried by codifying it into law. Yaya Bello was in the habit of doing this exact same thing when he was governor without any law. So you're only complaining now because it is being done officially This is why I think it’s stupid to abuse, insult and malign any politician because people in power = people in society. |

banku: Soludo has never failed in any responsibility he assumed.
I may disagree with him on this on principle because I want the local governments to be autonomous but we all know Nigerians will abuse the power of the purse. In a country where every allocation disappears, we will be creating more looters without State oversight.
The weak Federal oversight of the States is an example.
Local and State governments can still obey the Supreme Court on principle. Money has reduced Nigeria and Nigerians to abject poverty.
Nigeria is a good example of deluged foreign income turning our politicians into drunken sailors. Based on your logic, which is worse: having a single person (the governor) abusing power, or having multiple LGA chairmen without immunity misusing power that the governor could have abused? |

Zooposki: I believe personal income should not be taxed, as we already pay taxes as VAT on everything. It amounts to double taxation. You might consider relocating to a country with zero income tax, such as the UAE. Additionally, it's worth noting that VAT does not apply to essential goods like food, healthcare, and education. |
Politics › Re: New Bill Mandates Tax ID For Opening Bank Accounts by lionshare: 9:17am On Oct 11, 2024 |
Zooposki: BVN and NIN are ok for personal accounts. Tax ID for business accounts. Moreover we already pay stamp duties, VAT etc. etc. The petty petty income coming to personal account should not be a source of concern to the government. I believe that the National Identification Number (NIN) should align with the Tax Identification Number (TIN). I've stated multiple times that the government is not targeting the impoverished, unless your definition includes anyone earning over N25 million in a country where individuals with an annual income of N1.2 million are still subject to taxation. |

So because you saw "in collaboration with Bankers committee bla bla bla, it means it's a private asset abi
I don hear. It's not a government asset. It belongs to the Bankers Committee of Nigeria. As you may have noticed, I don't engage in insults. Just to clarify, the BVN and NIBSS—(essential for enabling instant transfers)—are not government assets. |

Winnin009: SMH.. It's not a government asset but it was introduced and currently managed by CBN. Is the CBN a private enterprise my bro? The BVN was the CBN's directive on behalf of the government to introduce new KYC features to safe guard customers and track transactions.
Like i said bro, please stop. It's becoming embarrasing. Stop exposing your ignorance. Look up: Bankers' Committee of Nigeria. |

Arostar2023: Norm for where? In most sane climes it's your social security number that is required, at most, for financial transactions. Not tax ID. You guys should stop supporting madness and wickedness For heaven's sake, an SSN can be issued at birth. |
Politics › Re: New Bill Mandates Tax ID For Opening Bank Accounts by lionshare: 8:02am On Oct 11, 2024 |

Politics › Re: New Bill Mandates Tax ID For Opening Bank Accounts by lionshare: 7:50am On Oct 11, 2024 |
Winnin009: Still not necessary for the reason you gave as the government already has access to BVN database that's directly linked to our accounts. Bro, you might as well stop now. There's no reasonable defence for this. The BVN is not a government asset; rather, the NIN and TIN are. If you are a poor person this is not something to worry about but if your transactions flows exceeds 25M then you have been ripping the government off the needed taxes but not anymore |

Zooposki: Yes I have, but all they require is your Social Security number, not Tax ID, and it’s left for you to report it. Moreover PayPal is not a bank. They also delineate between receipt of money from family/friends and sales. Exactly If neo-bank should require that what should expect from a traditional bank? |
Politics › Re: New Bill Mandates Tax ID For Opening Bank Accounts by lionshare: 7:43am On Oct 11, 2024 |
Winnin009: Bottom line is it's not needed. Normally, if our systems were properly integrated, we don't need anything more than BVN. It has all our biological info and what not. The BVN is more than sufficient to track, record and even provide further oversight on whatever bank account or transaction. The tax ID is more often for the company or business and not even the person that owns the business because with the person's SSN, all shits (good or bad) are availabe and that includes taxes paid... The Tax ID makes the business an entity and eligible to pay tax as the business isn't a human that can be issued an ssn While I see your point I do not agree with you as I think every adult with a capacity to receive income/inflow should have a tax ID which can be used to effectively managed the automatic stabilizers like transfer payments (Direct cash transfers to citizens). |

Winnin009: Don't be silly. You shouldn't need a tax ID to operate a bank account as not everyone operating a bank account has a taxable income. Na companies and small businesses dey require such. Fair point but tracking or recording a transaction is not same as taxing the customer or is it? |

RodgersAkpafu: how is it supposed to be the norm ? Even the UK that is notorious for taxing you to your jugular will not propose such a draconian policy
Nigeria has a huge shadow economy how will you drive financial inclusion with this kind of policy ? What’s draconian about attaching tax identification to bank transactions? It’s that same shadow economy that’s responsible for the corruption and insecurity we’ve been crying about. Remove the shadow and bank the unbanked; it’s improves security too. Let’s embrace transparency; we know for a fact no business with revenue less than N25m will get taxed. Or what do you have to hide? One last thing the CBN needs to ban all cash dollar transactions within the country. Everything must go through the bank!!! |

Meanwhile, Section 14(4) outlines that if the state receives the LGA’s allocation on their behalf, it must deduct the specified percentage before disbursing the remaining funds to the LGA. South Africa should not be allowed to smell that seat for obvious reasons.
