bumi10: The subscribers of the Glo mobile network in four local government areas of Ondo State have been unable to use the network for the past two weeks as the 33 stations in the areas have been shut down by the security men manning them.
The affected four local government areas are:
1. Akoko North-East 2. Akoko North-West 3. Akoko South-East 4. Akoko South-West Local Governments
According to reports, the guards were said to have taken the action in protest against the telecom giants following non-payment of their salaries for the past 11 months by the security outfit, Concord Security Limited, contracted by Glo to hire the guards.
Some of the 66 guards who spoke on condition of anonymity on Friday lamented that the security company was owing them 11 months salary, and they could not cope doing the job again. One of them said;
"We have to shut down the stations we are guarding because of non-payment of our salaries, we have contacted our employer, Concord Security Limited in Akure but our boss, Mr. Friday told us that Glo was owing him that is why he too is owing us.
“We want to appeal to the management of Glo Telecommunicaton to pay our company so that they could pay us too. We are earning N10,000 as salary per month, you can see that that is too small for us but we are managing it, yet they are denying us the money, this is unfair”
The General Manager of Concord Security Company, who was identified as Mr. Friday admitted that the company was owing the security guards. According to Daily Post, the man said he was owing the workers because Glo was owing him too, but explained that the matter has been resolved.
“ We are owing them, we are not denying that; it is due to the economic problem in the country. Our client, Globacom is owing us 16 months and we are able to pay the security up to 11 months. I have talked to them that it was not an intentional act for us to owe them because we are contractors. When our clients pay us, we pay our workers,” Friday explained
faceURfront: After reading some comments here and several other comments in different fora, I realised we have a serious problem
1. The only person that speaks for ASUU are national officials, especially the National President. Any other person talking is expressing his personal opinion.
2. There is so much ignorance in this country. And the most annoying thing is people make conclusive statements without any facts. Imagine somebody here saying the Dr earns nothing less than 400k per month. Well let that fellow know that you can have a PhD and still earn below 150k (which is an improved pay package as a result of several strikes someone called useless). Pay is dependent on rank not academic qualification. Yes academic qualification is a major factor in rank determination, depending on mode of entry into the system and some discipline, a PhD holder can earn less than 150k and a non PhD holder can earn way above 150k.
3. Before you go calling ASUU strikes useless, please note that ALL ETF projects you see on our university campuses are results of ASUU struggles. When was the last time you saw any new project in any university that is not an ETF project? From lecture halls to offices, labs to ICT centres, libraries to sports facilities and school clinics. Imagine if ASUU folded her hands and kept mute, public universities would have long gone extinct and let's see how many people can send their children to private universities...on how much that workers are being paid in this sorry country? Which brings me to the issue of civil servants sending their children to private universities.
4. Besides high ranking civil servants, majority of civil servants earn less than 150k per month. And we are talking about the Federal level. State civil servants earn less. But let's even assume a civil servant earns 300k per month. He has to feed, transport, pay for medical care, fuel his car(s), take care of family members every now and then ( remember we are in africa) fuel his generator and save some to either pay his annual rent, or save towards building his house or payoff loans he took to build his house or buy a car. Which money will he use in sending his children to private universities? Remember if he has just a child in the universities, most likely others are in the secondary school where fees are already sky rocketing. I can confidently say a civil servant who sends his children to private universities must be making money besides his salary, and given the level of corruption in this country, the probability that he is stealing that money is high.
stephanie11: PoliticsNGR has gotten video of president Buhari's official jet leaving the Heathrow airport in London on Saturday morning, headed for Nigeria.
President Buhari is expected to land in Aso-rock any moment from now after spending over 100 days in the United Kingdom on medical leave. The president's return falls a day after a group of protesters stormed the Abuja house in London demanding that the president returns to Nigeria or submit his resignation letter.
It will be recalled that the president has received a number of high profile visitors in the last few days. He met with the Senate president, Bukola Saraki and his counterpart in the house of reps, Yakubu Dogara on Thursday and on Friday, he met with the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian church of God, Enoch Adeboye.
Emzyme: Thought jamb banned postume. Some schools have already gone contrary to that directive as Delsu Oou Have conducted the postume exercises Unilag has notified that they would be having a cbt based test Same as edo state university Rumours are that some federal universities are planning same Aspirants / students Which schools are confirmed not to write or offer any aptitude test be it cbt or papaer based.
