PoliticsRe: Tax Bill; You Cannot Take Bayelsa Money & Pay Lagos - Senator Dickson by Lithiumite: 12:43am On Dec 04, 2024
Kamosh:
Tax is not the way you explained it, companies pay company income tax which goes to federal government, and staff tax is paid to states, if the oil company staff are in Bayelsa, Bayelsa state government will collect the tax and those staff in Lagos will pay to Lagos state.
Don't mind those wailers with empty craniums who allows themselves to be gaslighted by those obidients and ipob.

Yes, they pay their tax in Lagos because they have their office there, when actual production is taking place in Niger Delta. This is a big scam Lagos people don't want to talk about.
What happened to your 13% derivation,SS states get one of the highest from ecological fund,NDdC is also there and well funded.

You are only just mixing this tax reform matter up....tinubu wants bayelsa to start receiving VAT revenue based on what you consume there....if you buy a designer watch in bayelsa or drink VSOP,the VAT should remain there to be used to develop the state and not brought to Abuja to be shared by all the states as we are currently doing.

Dickson is with tinubu on this tax reform....don't confuse yourself.

Aisha Mohammad, nenadi Usman, hadiza Bala usman not even that olodo that was incharge of finance under Buhari also that musawa lady from Katsina in this govt etc.....northerners have some of the most beautiful women.

All those things "said" make no difference. You know why? We can't differentiate between propaganda, lies and truth from the intents this government. They can as well go ahead and do what is on their mind. When a northern president comes, he will make his own changes, until Nigeria implodes. Save your breath friend. I am not interested...Shikena!
Let's tinubu practicalise his ideas and if it doesn't work it can be tweaked for better efficiency or scrap it.
PoliticsRe: FG Statement On Tax Bills Debate by Lithiumite: 7:38pm On Dec 03, 2024
Macphenson:
One of the most controversial issues in this Tax Reform Bill is that 60% of VAT to be shared by states will be given to the state it was collected from, It seems by this it will only favour mostly Lagos and Rivers State to the detriment of the Northern states who are collecting more VAT based on population.

Here is my concern, Lagos state was deliberately made the commercial headquaters of the Nation to the detriment of other states the more reason it collects more taxes.

Practically, All the cars entering the country pays their tax to only Lagos state. Even the cars to be used in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River states. Now this is not fair to these states as they have their own seaports but cars are not entering them, the taxes they are supposed to get as a state goes to Lagos state.

Also, Telecom companies pay their VAT in Lagos because their headquaters are located in Lagos, If this new bill is passed, that is no longer fair to all other states where the Telcom companies operate. Telcom companies should now start paying VAT to each state they operate as you can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul.

Oil companies have their headquaters located in Lagos while they operate in different states especially in the Niger Delta. This will no longer be fair if the bill is passed becaused those states where the oil companies operate will start demanding that the oil companies pay thier VAT in those states they operate.

The truth is this bill if passed, is seriously going to open litany of issues which I dont think at the moment the bill captured or resolved it.

Another worrisome dimension, this may prompt the oil producing states to start demanding for 60% of the oil revenues from their respective states, once this happens, chaos will reign supreme in the country.
Oga!! The bill is exactly opposite of what you quoted there....go grab a copy and educate yourself.

I'm really worried why the north is so against this bill. So whatever they deem unfavorable to them shouldn't see the light of day? They're joking. This bill must be passed.
They were against resource control during obj

They were against the PIA because they felt it would short change then and empower the SS more.

They were against GEJ's almajiri education policy.

They are against restructuring and true fiscal federalism.

They are against the tax reforms again because they feel the north would no longer get free funds from the center.

They were against independence agitation in 1956.

They are against civil law but want their Sharia law upheld.

They are against scrapping of quota system.

They are against ban on reckless open trading of Forex and ban on unregistered bdc's because they are the largest group in that sector.

Was that not what Tinubu promised, when fuel was at 197 Tinubu said a maa gbe wa lè ... why should Nigerians be grateful for #750 per litre.

Maybe Nigeria did not make progress since oil boom But so also Nigeria have never recorded the economic doldrums like Tinubu recorded within 1yrs, Tinubu inflation rate alone surpass yaradua and jonathan tenure combine.

Subsidy is not bad or wrong, even in climes unemployment rate is single digit, govt still subsidy .. As a Nigeria from time of birth to time of death the probability you will benefit one thing from Naija govt is 10% ... govt is not all about take take from the people that what makes Tinubu despicable he never thinks of giving back ... is sees governance like a heist operation

Two refineries up, why not substantiate that with what as changed, is it supply ?? lower price ?? or as importation stopped .. what as changed bro ?? thats how to make a point
Insecurity is tackle on yet, farmers cant still go back to farm, who is fooling who

Virtually all you listed are mere outcomes without significance, changes talkless of impact.
Revenue as increased, Gdp as increase blah blah ... yet we cant afford to finance anything without running to take loan, infact with the rate Tinubu is going he will collect more loan than obj, yaradua and Gej combined

Everything this useless government claims as an achievement literally has no impact in reality .. pregnancy doesnt show until 5 + but there are build up that gives it out
It's either you are very limited in your knowledge of how an economy runs or you deliberately just want to be downright mischievous,I suspect the former.

For Pete's sake, those refineries coming on stream alone is very pivotal to our economic recovery,it makes no sense for anybody to go import petrol anymore and we have started saving hitherto scarce Forex that would have gone into importation of this....tinubu made that happen..... inflation is high because of the devaluation of the naira which is normal in such circumstances,it's then apt for the economy to shore up productivity so as to march the value of the currency....that's basic economics that even a basic school kid knows.

You are only trying to be funny by denying the obvious effort against terrorism and banditry in the north, boko haram, iswap, bandits in not too distant past ran rampage over the north and always in the news daily but that has been drastically reduced.

Economics is beyond having rice and beans to eat though that's all that matters to the layman but the foundations to make lasting progress as in the case of Nigeria had been greatly damaged and we are only trying to now make those reforms to rejig it.....Nigeria's problems is structural and not who is president.

On borrowing, there is no way you can run this economy without borrowing, you are servicing previous debts that needs to be paid back which is eating over 60% of your revenue and you still have your re current and capital components in your budget to finance, there is absolutely no way you won't have to borrow......I used to reason same way you are right now when I was a lot younger and had limited exposure but I now know how much of a mess Nigeria is in and we have no choice but to dig out way out of it and there are no easy fixes.

It's trite to recall that even GEJ and madam Iweala were screaming over the roof tops that Nigeria at the time couldn't continue the way we were going without tanking out the economy but they weren't bold enough to make those reforms tinubu's doing now, they rather sacrifice expediency for politics

Clichè, oga nobody expect magic, 1yr is more than enough to see a build up, the problem is we are not even seeing any buildup that can metamorphosis to a "turn around" ... @least "build up" is short term enabled

when you have a coma patient, there will be a time he/she will move fingers, blink, twitch those are "build up" to wake up

Everyday tinubu people shout reform but almost 2yrs no build up to resonate hope .... things are just getting worst and you expect us to waste another 8yrs on tinubu like we wasted on Buhari sacrificing and hoping.

show us build up that depicit the economy is responding talkless of turn around
Cliché!! What metamorphosis are you expecting, that petrol should go back to 250 naira or dollar back to 750 naira.....that to me is rather too pedestrian a logic.

Nigeria had made no real progress since the oil boom of the 70s....it's been a downward slide into economic doldrums.....look how many years but many who were crying for the days of Abacha or yar adua to come back didn't feel this retrogression and didn't care in so far they could get subsidised fuel in their cars, cheap dollars to go import anything and everything and even send their gfs abroad for shopping but now the hooves have come off the horse and the economy can't go on any more ....do you think it would just take mere wishful thinking to correct the rot and decline of several decades in less than 24 months......how more illogical can one be.

Their are currently 2 refineries up in same period this man has come in, terrorism and insecurity is being tackled head on with visible results, the foreign reserve is growing to over 40b USD since pre GEJ,oil production is shoring up and much needed investments in that sector are coming in.....we could go on and on but the fact people deliberately would rather be blind to the positives and stick to the negatives just because this man disgraced their preferred candidate is what beats me hollow at every turn.....how preposterous.

The reason majority of this northern elites are antagonistic of this bill is because Tinubu isn't differing to them on many issues as they would have thought and there sphere of influence is drastically miniaturising.

Man go carry una japa, una go enter finish and say you no longer need him.

According to the article

Aunty came to UK on her husband's visa in March 2021.

But shortly after, her husband was not good enough for her and she cut off from him. This point was clearly stated in the article that she couldn't obtain public funds as she cut off from her husband n became an overstayer.

January 2022, a mere 8 months after landing in the UK, her child which ordinarily would have been with the father to look after was left in the hands of strangers n drowned.

Madam, you doomed the fate of that child the day you left the man that brought you to UK. Pikin was constantly sleeping on a sofa.
You don't know the full story,we really can't judge based on a single sentence.

Really sad but the mother was careless.

I work in children social care with a London borough. She is an overstayer and that makes her continued stay in the UK, illegal and boroughs are already overwhelmed with requests for foster care from parents who are British. The cost for a week foster care for a toddler could be a minimum of about £600 (N1.3m per week) and local authorities are not eager to spend public funds on persons who is illegal in the Country.
That means she still stands the risk of being deported if she can't tie a British father to the other child..... tragic!!

Why's her situation in UK that pathetic to the extent sleeping on sofa without a permanent home and asking for placement for a 2 year old?

And she got pregnant with a British son in that condition too.

Was she prohibited from bringing her toddler along while visiting her sick brother ?

It's situations like this that makes one value family and community support one gets back home.
That's the difference between Africa and the west......there are so many things we take for granted here such as our communal living and our filial ties.

Life in certain aspects can be quite cruel over there though both sides has it's pros and cons.
