According to Salihu Ladan in an interview on Symfoni TV on Friday, September 4, 2026, Salihu Ladan, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has predicted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will secure significant support across the South-South and parts of the Southwest ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“Twenty-five per cent at worst in three states of the Southwest. Atiku will win presidentially in the South-South,” Ladan said.

The ADC chieftain was then asked to clarify whether he was confident in the prediction. He responded affirmatively, stressing that he was certain about Atiku’s prospects in the region.

“Really? Yes. I can assure you,” he said.

Ladan also assessed the potential performance of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly in Northern Nigeria.

According to him, Obi could struggle to secure the constitutional threshold required for victory in many northern states, although he acknowledged that the former Anambra State governor could potentially achieve 25 per cent in at least one state.

“Peter Obi, if he is lucky, he may get 25% in maybe one state in the North,” Ladan said.

His comments come as political activities and alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition figures positioning themselves for the presidential contest.

The 2027 race is expected to feature strong competition among major political figures, with Atiku and Obi among those seeking to mobilise support across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. Recent political engagements have also seen Obi intensify his direct interaction with Nigerians as part of his campaign activities.

Ladan’s projection represents his assessment of the likely electoral strength of the opposition contenders and should not be treated as an established election outcome. Actual results will depend on voter preferences, party structures, campaign performances and the conduct of the election.

He concluded his appearance by expressing appreciation to the programme host, saying, “Thank you for having me. Thank you for the privilege.”
