Before deposition, this is how the argument on certificate forgery would probably have gone.

PDP person: Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to INEC.
APC person: But you know that's a lie. He did not submit anything like that.
PDP person: I am telling you he did that. The certificate is forged.
APC person: how can you say it is forged? Did the school tell you that? (knowing that there's almost no way the school will confirm such a thing under any circumstances)


1 deposition later.

PDP person: Now that it has been confirmed, you see he submitted a forged certificate to inec.
APC person: but that shows he graduated.
PDP person: I say person submit forged document to INEC, you dey talk about wetin nor concern me.

Abacha died in June 1998. Elections were hastily called and by August 1998, campaign had started. The elections were held in February 1999

I reckon INEC had to process candidates at short notice between July and September 1998 and Tinubu did not have time to go and get his certificate. Certificate took weeks to arrive in the days before internet. Add the fact he is in a different country, probably rushed down to Nigeria in July 1998 after Abachas death and immediately had to submit certificate to INEC, he forged it. Add in the fact that his travel to USA would be beset with uncertainty due to the FBI forfeiture saga only 7 years prior

It's very clear to those of us who were alive and know the timelines what happened. However, as I have said, I have zero problems with him making up a certificate he rightfully achieved.

Claiming he collected his certificate in Chatham House is just him maintaining his lie from 1998 because his certificate was questioned then.

.. How is Obi involved in this issue when it is atiku that has been dragging him through the mud?
Is Obi in PDP or a member of the legal team that deposed the CSU Registrar?

Caleb Westberg, registrar of Chicago State University in a deposition done at the office of Atiku Abubakar’s lawyer, Angela Liu affirmed many times that President Bola Tinubu was a student of the university, who graduated in 1979, in flying colours.

The registrar made it clear that the university does not have a copy of the certificate issued to Tinubu in 1979 when he graduated as the university does not keep certificates, except those ones not collected by their owners.

Pressed many times to say that the Tinubu admitted in 1977 was female, Westberg said the information available in Tinubu’s file is that he is male, as the admission letter clearly shows.

He said the certificate of Tinubu collected by a lawyer Enahoro-Ebah was the one Tinubu applied for and did not collect. And he asked Atiku’s lawyers to ask Tinubu why he did not collect.

Westberg also said the replacement certificate Tinubu supplied to the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) was not forged as it was certified by the university, along with his transcript and admission letter.
