effyzzy: Visa Approved || Passport collected Venue: Abuja
Very calm place... Didn't have the usual Lagos rush. Did the usual checks and biometrics. I was asked to go retake a passport though... they needed something within the last 6 months. (2k just went like that)
Fast forward to my interview. A woman in her late 40s. Very calm and friendly.
VO: So you're going to the University of New Mexico ME: Yes, in Albuquerque VO: How did you find out about the school? ME: I did an online research using USnews and Princeton Review on schools offering Electrical Engineering with Communications as a Research area and a faculty with a strong Focus in my area of research interest which is 'Cognitive Radios' VO: Cog what?? ME: Cognitive Radios VO: what's that? I've never heard of it (laughing) ME: Explains what 'cognitive radio' is VO: Your school is expensive ME: Yes ma, but I got a graduate assistantship position that fully covers my tution, with very generous monthly stipends VO: Do you have any document from the school that shows this? ME: Brings out my Admission letter VO: They wrote here that it's just for one academic year ME: Yes ma, it's renewable if I maintain a particular GPA level VO: in case you lose your funding, do you have support from home? ME: Yes, My cousin offered to support me in such a case VO: What does he do? ME: He's the head of blah blah at blah blah VO: What about your family? ME: Yes, my family would be supporting me as well VO: What do they do? ME: Explains VO: Okay, (then types for like 30 seconds, the next thing I saw was that cute white paper) ...'I will be approving your VISA' was all I heard ME: Thank you ma VO: Hold on... In a case where you lose your source of funding, what will you do? ME: I will come back to my country immediately VO: When does your program start? ME: January VO: Make sure you don't arrive before Dec... Or you'll be turned back at the POE ME: Alright ma, thank you VO: Good. Take this... Do you have cash for your repository fees? ME: No ma, but I have my card (I proceeded to the ATM, made a withdrawal and paid)
Grateful for this thread, as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland.
GOD ALONE BE PRAISED!!! I'm also going to New mexico in January not ur school tho, wen are u leaving ? |

TWoods: Let’s be honest, those who apply with genuine documents have no need to fear. As the Bible said - the wicked runs when no man is pursuing him. Go figure.
I don’t see this same level of irrational fear with any other group I have encountered at foreign consulates. Resumption is the reason for panick not false documents |

TWoods: Read what I wrote, and also read the link I posted directly from the US consulate, don’t simply comment based on emotion. An AP is technically a refusal. That you are put on AP does not mean you will not be issued a visa if the VO decides that you are eligible for the visa after reviewing your case. It's not a refusal AP is just security check and fraud Check please stop putting fear in people's mind |

olasijiayo: lets be hopeful i got on AP today in abuja too and the way the woman talked and ended the interview its obvious its far from denial and she clearly stated the need to check the SOA for fraud she even told me about what to do at POE dont let anyone just come here like AP na today its just the closeness to the resumption date thats a bother its a really strenous bother but God is faithful as far as you are sure of your SOA Exactly what I was trying to tell the person that said AP is as good as denial, we just have to be positive and stay calm one thing I know for sure is that the embassy is very aware of our resumption dates |

TWoods: I don’t like to bear bad news either but I see the misinformation peddled here too often. If you are on AP, you were technically refused a visa or considered ineligible for the visa under section 221g. You were not approved.
Here is information you should read through - https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/administrative-processing-information.html
As noted, you are only permitted to request about the status of a 221g after 180 days of your visa interview or submission of requested information. Bottom line; plan well in advance. I was approved the VO wished me the best and gave me the white paper saying congratulations blah blah blah, the VO said he was going to check the soa for fraud and tgat was it |

TWoods: Don’t bet on it. The consulate is not required to factor in your resumption date when on AP. H1B visa holders are known to spend up to 6 months or more on AP, and it doesn’t matter if your boss is a senator. Technically, being on AP is the same as a visa refusal. Hope for the best. I'm sure most of us were placed on AP after approval because they need to verify our soa, please don't give people hbp just encourage us |

MyAmericandream: Visa status: Approved(8:15am) on 24/07/19 Consulate: Lagos
Sex of VO: Male Window2 Scholarship: 40% Deficit: 24,657 Issued: 26/08/19 Me: Good morning sir, I passed my passport and i20 immediately. VO: Oh i20? V0: You're going for your masters degree? ME: Yes sir VO: Oh chemistry? ME: Yes sir VO:When did you graduate from school? ME: 2014 VO: So what have you been doing since then? I mean after you finished your undergraduate. ME: I have been working, but before that, I ensured I observe the national youth service corps. Currently I work with Iwobi Nigeria limited as a fertility chemist. VO: Is this company going to sponsor you? ME: Not at all sir V0: So how are you going to sponsor your trip? ME: I already have a dean scholarship, then my uncle will cover the rest.
VO:Shocked (when he heard the scholarship) He quickly glance through my i2o to verify, Ok! So what does your uncle do? He's a real estate consultant, a property professional. He buys, sells and market properties of every description from lands, luxury apartment, flats to estates and industrial complexes.
VO: Please can you tell me why you choose this school? Looking straight into my eyes. Me: The first and foremost factor for selecting this school was because of the amount quality research currently going on in the department which is closely similar to what I did in my undergraduate studies. I want to learn more and be part of the research group, the aim of this research is to synthesize marine natural product and their analogues for the design of drug molecules like antibacteria and anticancer chemoterapeutc agent. I'm already in touch with Professor Pier Cirillo and he's willing to absorb into his research group. Besides this, I will have access to the latest technology provided by bergami learning center for science, innovation and technology were ground breaking innovations in chemistry are carried out, innovations like design of drugs to eradicate leukemia completely, you know leukemia is a very deadly diseases? And another one again is to cultivate plant using hydroponic technology, most of the chief ingredients used in the pharmaceutical companies are derived from plants, this time around I will be learning how cultivate plants in water rather than soil. I'll also learn how to convert dead plants, waste materials into biofuels, you know our crude oil is drying up gradually? So I'll be bringing this into the gas and oil sector. VO: Tired of listening and looked straight into his system. ME: I'll not keep my mouth shut, after all I talk very fast(In my mind). And again the courses the faculty provides is different from the usual traditional masters program, were bioinformatics, computational modelling, biomedical polymers are not incorporated into the core curriculum, this program is a very dynamic one, it integrates different discipline to make a curriculum. VO: Focused his eyes again at me, perhaps, enjoying what I was saying. ME: I never finish oh, the school uses the tegrity learning approach as well, were I can always download audio and video after class for review. VO: So what are your plans after this degree? Me: After I must have gathered enough skills required to accelerate my career. I intend to return to the country and apply as a quality control specialist in a pharmaceutical firm ,food and beverage domain, Regulatory agency. I might report or resume (I can't figure out what I said here.)at association of, oh sorry, Nigerian bottling company were I interned as a lab analyst. As a matter of fact their is shortage of man power in quality control, because a bulk of the current labour force lacks knowedge in cut VO: I'm approving your visa, he threw my 120 and white paper at me, my passport went straight to the tray. ME: looking at the passport in the tray, Was still in awe, Is that all sir? VO: Yeah ME: That was how I picked race, I couldn't even locate the exit. Thank you Jesus, coz you kept to your word. I wouldn't have gotten this with out your hand. Thanks fairheart, bracelum, time2win and elhadji19 for vetting my transcript thoughrougly. I am grateful! Thanks to everyone of you that has contributed in one way or the other in this forum. May God continue to strengthen you. Shalom! Have you gotten any updates on visa collection |
