Career › Re: CFA Candidates In The House by llade(m): 2:31pm On Jan 25, 2017 |
analystk: Dear llade,
I think the CFA programme more than repays the expense. For some, it does over a long time. For others (like me) it does over a short time (few months after getting the charter, I did a job for about 3 nights that paid me what it cost to write all the exams. I have had many more of such payments over the years). That is just talking about recovering the cost of writing the exams. The more important thing is what it does for your career. The CFA charter gives you instant recognition amongst finance people. For instance, when I look at a charterholder, I see someone who is hardworking, intelligent, and tenacious. That must surely count in job interviews, promotion considerations, etc. The knowledge you gain from the CFA programme is so much that you can hardly be in a place where finance, economics, management, corporate governance, accounting, etc are being discussed, and not dominate the discussion. You just make contributions to the discourse and people wonder how come you know so much.
A mistake people make is to expect the charter to get them instant cash or promotion at work. This may or may not happen. However, always remember that you can create cash with the knowledge you have. Do you know that derivatives are presently not traded in Nigeria? Do you also know that the exchanges want to launch them this year? Someone has to create the products that will be traded in the derivatives market. Why can't that person be you? Do you know we do not have enough rating agencies? Or investment research houses? Or data company like Bloomberg? Or good financial reporters and presenters for the media? I could go on all day. The thing is that you must think outside your present job. You must ask yourself which of the numerous opportunities you would like to pursue.
Finally, who says you cannot check out of the country with your charter? You hold a globally-recognized qualification, so why not? I have been fortunate to visit may countries of the world, and have seen the recognition my charter gives me. Of all my qualifications, the CFA has given me the most benefit. So, don't despair. Write that L3, get your charter, and begin to flenjor Many thanks for your detailed analysis and advice. |

Mailthaddeus: Then consider including a basement in ur house. Am a contemporary engineer who likes innovative design. If u attach a basement. D super structure can still follow similar designs of other estates around, whiled substructure gives u all d parking space u need. Still we can do the design for u |

I recently bought into an estate in Abuja. D design for the 300 square metre plot is for six 2 bedroom flats with 2 on d ground floor, first floor and second floor respectively. The building from the plan will occupy 246 square metres and am just wondering if the remaining 54 square metres will be enough for parking cars. Am expecting each flat to have 2 cars each. My email is eawasini@gmail.com. Thanks. |
Properties › Re: Can 300 Square Metres Land Be Sufficient To Build 6 2 Bedroom Flats In 2 Floors by llade(op): 8:20pm On Jan 12, 2017 |
mufutau55: OK. Normal small plot in Lagos/Ogun/Oyo is like 450sqm (50x100ft or 15x30m) so that plot is kind of small. You may want to do 4 Units of 2 bedrooms (2=Ground Floor & 2=First Floor) so as to have ample parking space. More reason I have always prefer 60x120ft (18x36m) plot size.
Hajji M. A friend of mine suggested i do two 4 bedroom terrace flats on d ground and first floor and den two 2 bedroom flats on the second floor dat will now make only 4 flats considering d parking space constraint. |
Properties › Re: Can 300 Square Metres Land Be Sufficient To Build 6 2 Bedroom Flats In 2 Floors by llade(op): 5:41pm On Jan 12, 2017 |
Mailthaddeus: That's like half a plot by Lagos standard. 300sqm won't be able to accommodate the building with adequate parking lot for d occupants. I suggest u redesign the building. U can make the ground floor a clear open space, while u add additional floor to it. This will make the whole ground floor space a parking lot or play ground for kids. U can contact me for the structural design of the redesigned building. Just PM me and I shall reply u. D developer may not agree as all allotees must build according to issued prototypes and designs. |

I have been to d developer's office today and appealed for d plot size to be increased to at least 350 square metres. Hope they will accede to my request cos parking cars may be a challenge. |

Hajji M. Honestly i dont have details of d dimension other dan d 300 square metres indicated in d prospectus |

Hope d efcc is not insinuating dat as a civil servant one shud only earn salary and allowances til retirement. D constitution allows farming and investment, so estimating d true worth of a civil servant only by his salary and allowances is myopic. In clear cases where assets were acquired thru ill gotten wealth, d law of d land shud be wielded on such erring civil servant. |
