I like this idea. I think it can work but we have to sort out some basic underlying issues: First, you have the issue of trust, who holds and disburses the money. I think you need to give it to someone every can trust or atleast hold responsible: you can use UNDP, BOI or CBN. Next will be what to invest in. You can discuss and have a vote on 5 (or more) basic sectors or particular businesses. If everyone has a better idea, then get all the different ideas to make a presentation to buttress their point and vote on it. At this point those with potential leaders/CEO/Managers skills will be easily identified. Finally, 5000 people can always contribute but they can't all participate at the initial stage you have to perform a selection process for those with business acumen and "street smart". The best (maybe) 1000 will start the various businesses after being trained on basic finance and management skills (we can meet any of the big 4-KPMG, Pwc etc to do it for free and consider it as their CSR). As for salaries and food, no one should expect anything income for the first six years, ofcourse the guys running it will earn more. The rest can join the group with success and expansion, if any. It just important to have a structure and understanding backed with legal agreement with very very very harsh penalties ![]() But I like this discussion and I think its time we all realize that jobs are hard to cone by these days, even if oil is $300 per barrel we would struggle. This is because most graduates have the wrong impression, thinking that the government provide jobs. Thats wrong, in developed countries, individual provide jobs, the government is supposed to provide an enabling environment (but do you want to wait for them?). I think the op has a solid idea and I like his optimism, it will help in looking for solutions. The others guys noting the problem are also important, because they help us see the issues. Please feel free to point out the holes in my points or improve on it.+ |
Op best of Luck! But I was shocked to see the name "KPMG International" in your title. Note that the Nigerian arm is called KPMG Professional Services (check your email again). There is a big difference between the two, you will understand better when you join them. Again best of luck. |
bluaero:Very good! It's good to know that I and chatting with someone like me that try to be objective (no one is ever really objective). Now to the issue, the idea of opposition and politics as a whole, the only reason things like this don't happen in the US is that their politicians try their best to generally live a clean life, unlike Nigeria that politicians commit all sorts of atrocities and flaunt it. If Obama had dirt on Republicans that keep frustrating his policies, do you think he will hold back? The truth is that even though prosecution of criminal acts may not be balanced across parties, I would rather take half than non at all. Because however you see it a wrong act is a wrong act. What people forget is that the success of the ruling party in the last election is one of the best things that could happen: it means they can also be booted out if they fail. ![]() As for the hate, that has always been there, it was glaring from the last election result I will not dwell on it but know this, I grew up mostly in the north, served in the east, worked in both the west and South, so I see and understand Nigerias major tribes. The major issue now is that on social media the ignorant seem to make the loudest noice, people that haven't left their local government all their lives and a lot of the people that know better keep quiet. We end up doing damage control about certain perception when it's too late. I honestly don't believe Buhari alone can be blamed for such a mess. You have to appreciate the fact that he is the convenient culprit for everything negative happening in Nigeria now (ranking just Below the Devil) As for economy, he has his faults in some areas but I will ask you to do a research on all the countries that has oil as its major export; you will be surprised that we are actually way better off than most. I am not giving any excuses for the dude, I generally don't tolerate them. But I will ask you this: can you stake your life that another party or person would have done better. I really don't know the answer to that question so I will try to support the positive and point out the negative for now. As for political parties and politicians, all of them can commit suicide for all I care. ![]() |
bluaero:Uncle, you need to appreciate the op effort, at least he did some research. As for your first point, if there are legal problems with freezing a governors account then he should take efcc to the court. This is Fayose we are still talking about wouldn't he love the opportunity to take the government to the court if he was on his right? As for your last point, the media only reports the lives of important people whose names can sell their papers. I am in Abuja and I have friends that have been questions for an issue or the other over the last couple of months. Infact if you had an issue with efcc would anybody other than your family know? Would you call it Wizard-hunt? So let's try to do some research before we support or come out to respond or post anything. That way no knew can dispute you and in the process you may learn something new. We shouldn't just take peoples word for it. |
Chopgala:So boss, where will this business be located? |
Isn't this very interesting: opened nairaland and saw this news and scrolled down and saw Lagos signing a smart city deal. But what really bothers me is on both threads people from these regions were cheering progress. So I ask you, what do you see as progress? |
fratermathy:You are officially one my favorite guy from the south. I think I would like to know you more (no homo ) |
luckyikhide:Abeg uncle, explain how it can bring man down so that I can strategize. As for getting lost, I have Google map and data. I cannot lost oo ![]() Women, boys and gurls are lucky, this only affects "man" ![]() |
Op, how can you repay me for the data I used in opening this page? ![]() |
You shouted help, so am guessing you are asking for advice. Find below the possible actions you can take: A) use your very limited resources to build and run a plant that make iron underwears for parents of female children. (don't forget to make the g-string version) B) Sponsor a bill in NASS that will penalize male adulterers but cutting their balls off. C) Find a way to brake up or disband marriage, thus you won't have married men D) Start giving 10,000,000,000,000 naira prize to any girl that can wait till marriage before loosing their virginity ........etc I can keep going on but I believe one or a combination of the above will solve this major issue that has plagued our country that you have brought to our attention. |
chiwetel:Hmmm Personal encounter, know people with similar stories, write-up to help people understand (with deep know of emotions and feeling) I refuse to connect the dots and judge someone (you) Don't mind me am just messing with ya. Nice write-up |
Smile and always look interested in whatever they say (don't forget to say ok, good or oh, etc... once in a while). Compliments and make an effort to pay attention. Then, fluke everything else. They say nothing good comes easily, right......... ![]() Note: I question the above quote sometimes. |
chiwetel:Aiit, noted. So what inspired you to write this? |
Hmmm, I am not bashing ooo, just an objective observation from your write-up. So sluts choose not to learn and are addicted to being loved (or needed or something), thus, use sex to get it. All in an effort to avoid being alone. Right? |
MrFinbarr:This guy am quoting is a correct guy, listen to him. What I notice is that you already have something with this lady that some married couples wish they did. My advice is to give it a try for a little while if you are not currently seeing anyone, make it clear that you guys will end it if you are still not feeling anything or you start having feelings for someone else. But please, never have it in mind you are doing her a favor, you are hopefully investing in your future. Finally pick her calls or call her back. |
Op, I think this is actually the best thing that happened to you. Because if you guys were married this would have been a bigger problem. Now the only person that can convince her to stay with you and choose you over the pastor on this forum is you. You have spent alot of time with her, so just relax and think about how she reasons and you will come up with something. And know that it may take some time, it hard to debunk a strong believe. If you also get through this you will know that you have reduced an external influence on your relationship (it's hard enough managing it without them sometimes). But if you think it's a general women problem and there is someone in nairaland with a manual on how women work, abeg send me a copy or borrow me after you are done. ![]() But seriously, Goodluck |
kings1771:What are you into and where do you reside? |
xolocious:I don't think this is necessarily true and I have a business thats flourishing here in Kaduna that should normally be set up in the south. When I analyse a business am interested in two things: your target market (demand) and costing (how long before you break even, capital investment, operational cost, and time for roi). So Mr Op can you briefly tells us about your market, your costing and how you ended up at this amount. I am presently in Kd and traveling tomorrow, but based on your response we could meet before my trip. |
Where is the setup (state)? |
PrincessAnna:I agree with you, I couldn't even understand what you said or meant, talkless of banning you. Just move on, nairaland ain't worth the stress. |
soulpeppersoup:Ogah, FYI I am a contractor and this amount is not new to me. Infact the more the more the money the more you question where it's from (everyone knows this). More money is more risk. That aside, if he was contracted for a legitimate job, he should not have any issues with his defense. There will always be a money trail to back him up. By the way I did not see any mention of him doing any job for anyone yet. Let's chill and enjoy the show, don't you think? ![]() |
Schematics:That's the worse possible idea. Thats as good as encouraging violence as the solution to everything you are not happy with. You will just encourage people that have the smallest grievances to just blow pipeline (eg I don't like the tax laws, they rates are high, I will just blow some pipes and demand a change) |
soulpeppersoup:You come and call alot of people here stupid but in your second point you are trying to justify receiving this huge amount of money without knowing where it came from? So if a friend of yours who is a civil servant came to you and gave you 50 million naira and said he did not know where it came from, you will just say the Lord is good, collect and move on. Abeg na hep me reason am. On your first point, someone stole your phone and sold it. Now you track it to the buyer, what would be your next course of action? My main point is you should try and have a balanced point of view, things are not always simple. |
mousco:You are funny oh, so you think they do not contribute anything to the economy. I am sure you are not one of the people complaining about the price of simple tomatoes recently. But then again, let's assume we follow your logic and ignore state that don't contribute to the economy. Why stop there; we can move one step further and exile every person that graduated with less than 2.1 out the Lagos, Abuja and your precious Phc (since they have minimal contribution to the economy). Oh did I forget to exile anyone older than 80 years and disabled people. |
Bigmex:I think it's available in the morning before 8am. I also think its for masters holders only (not sure about the masters thing though). Goodluck |
Shinelle:Congrats! It seems the process have changed abit (they removed the managers interview and added this business awareness test). Wishing you the best of luck |
Real scam, I just dey laugh |
hardbody:That's true but the lay off issue is not exclusive to the banking industry. For some reason the media carry mass sacking in the banking industry on their head. You should check out the oil and gas sector, most of the contract staffs have been sacked since while there have been mass sacking in the servicing sectors especially. In summary, you get sacked in any sector and it's better to apply and even live it up (even if it's for a little while) thus avoiding social vices for now. Don't forget that unemployment and social vices follow each other. |
But why focus on your mom because you still have a dad, don't you? |
mousco:I don't understand why you are complaining, what of people in Borno, Sokoto, Taraba, Enugu? What should they say? |
hardbody:Uncle, so what would you advise. Sit back and fold our arms, ignoring bank jobs. Wouldn't it be better to advise people to apply and start saving for the future or even start a business. |
